Nice ranch........ New to your channel. I'm a retired trades professional and totally agree with you about the absurd lack of quality, workmanship. No pride or value in anything anymore. I live off-grid just like you, completely manual life in the dirt. 😎👍👍
Would only use the day laborers for digging a trench or picking up garbage. Can't believe they would trust for something so important. Actually looks like these guys were doing some sabotage.
A quote that I try to remember, and live by: "The bitterness of poor quality remains long after the sweetness of low price is forgotten" - Benjamin Franklin My dad was the most frugal (yet generous) man I've ever met. Most of his shop, tools, and materials were mostly found on the side of the road, some traded for or bought very cheaply. Whenever the idea of being stranded somewhere (desert Island, or just the side of the road) comes up, I think of my dad and that he is who I'd want by my side. I wish I'd listened to him better.
@@GBear like most sayings it has a counter argument: to paraphrase Voltaire... don't let perfect be the enemy of good. Things don't HAVE to be pretty (unless it's a pig), they just have to function properly. Of they last a long time, that's icing on the cake. 😆
Oh Wow how scary for them! Thank God nothing terrible happened and you can fix it for them. Unfortunately, to save money people resort to day laborers but in long run end up paying more when mistakes are made.
@Lady_C83 True. I could have had the job done in a few hours, they paid these days laborers for 2 whole days, and me 7 hours so far trying to find the direct short in the mess they made.
I live in juarez. The house I live in does not have a ground wire coming in, it's just the two hot wires. I think that is a common practice here in mexico.
@retirementbootcampoff-grid237 Craftsmen with skills, don't hang out in H.D. parking lots. They are working a reputable job somewhere. Saw with bars rooms. If someone in a bar asks you for a job, they are actually asking you for more money to get drunk and miss work tomorrow because the got the flu.
@raymondpeters9186 welcome aboard. There was a ground wire back then, but not included in the basic wiring. It ran from box to box inside the walls and grounded the metal box, not a screw on the outlet. Most people only saw the hot and neutral connected to the outlet and assumed there was no ground.
I learned a long time ago that going cheap to save a buck cost more than 2 bucks latter on. About 40 years ago , I rented a house where someone connected a 220 volt baseboard heater into the breaker box incorrectly. I discovered it when the stove indicator light was lit, but the stove was turned off. There was 110 volts running through the ground wire so the entire outside of the stove was electrified. Luckily I found it before anyone was hurt.
@tonylarson1960able Yep. I'm listening to police/fire scanner in Gainesville about the hurricane Helena. They just ordered all patrols not on a call to seek shelter at the nearest school or hospital.
