in regards to the whole discussion on making art, something that really stuck with me is my aunt (who’s a professional artist who’s done many murals) describes it as “i like putting paint on things. if i get to put paint on something i’m happy”. and now every time i paint i think “damn, i also like putting paint on things. this rules”

You probably already know about this, but just in case you didn’t, Nathan did do a podcast a few years back with Caldwell. It’s called “What Should We Draw”.

@@samueldixon9028 I did not know that thanks for letting me know though, I often have drawfee stream vods on whilst I am falling asleep so maybe I will check it out. I just think Nathan and Karina have complementary voices that would work well on a chill podcast together

Maybe this sounds overdramatic but these streams really have a 'healing' quality... been having a very hard few years and as a result I'm completely out of practice with drawing and lost a lot of confidence. These streams (and Drawfee in general) help coax me into the right mindset to draw in a fun, loose, creative way like nothing else, and when I stick a drawclass on in the background I find myself suddenly motivated to pick up a pen and draw in a way I usually feel very inhibited from. Thanks for the wonderful vibes fellas :')
(also I'd take Drawfee 100% of the time over those endless videos like "10 things artists get WRONG" or "do THIS not THIS" or "NEVER draw like this again." Maybe they help someone but they're totally off-putting to me.)

Not over dramatic at all. Drawfee has healed and continues to heal and entertain us!!! Definitely helps my mental health a LOT.

Honestly, Nathan calm is it's own therapy. I'm glad he knows how much we all appreciate his presence.
Each drawfee member brings such a great element and they are all so different. I remember when Karina had her first episode and I was like... Oh she's so mousy and shy, the internet is going to tear her apart. I'm glad I was wrong about that! That and drawfee fans being one of the nicest communities goes to show how art brings us together.
I was hand sewing during this stream. You should do a really aggressive and hateful drawfee for April fool's, where you try your hardest to make the audience hate everything, you make only the smartest drawings smarter, and your not sorry about it 🥸🥸🥸
You might like my music mixing, it's the main thing I do to express how I'm feeling?

I think Nathan should do a whole series that's just this. Over and over. Talk us through a warm up while you doodle, tell us it's okay to suck. Legitimately better than therapy. ❤

Nathan! I just want to say that you running these classes with your desire to practice and learn and improve - not to mention the chill, positive vibe - has turned out to be really inspiring and helpful for me. I just became a TA for the 3D modeling department of an online school, and very soon I will be expected to run weekly video streams where I help and teach and hang out with students, and I am EXTEREMELY NERVOUS to attempt something like that.
I don't have a high level of confidence in my technical skills _or_ my social skills, but every time I start panicking that I have no idea what I'm going to do during these streams, I tell myself: "Be like Nathan! Run a chill, encouraging, informative stream like Nathan! That's what you would want from a video stream!" I'm hoping I can pull it off!

Karina's comment about style often coming down to proportions gave me a potential insight in your style, Nathan. I've noticed your arms and legs are often more meaty and/or muscular than those of the references. So part of your style could be barbarian/amazon-type body proportions?
Like, instead of treating those differences as mistakes, why not really go for it and emphasize those features? Personally, I find those big and strong proportions you draw very pleasing and empowering. And I'm sure more people will feel that way. Plus, judging by the way you draw when you're relaxed, and seeing the kind of references you pick, I suspect you're already drawn to these proportions instinctively.
Finally, some ideas for draw classes:
    * have patrons suggest artists or properties (an animation, comic, game, etc), then explore any aspects of those you feel drawn to; for example, investigate linework, colour, shapes, proportions, etc
    * Have patrons suggest a subject, then draw it in several different ways, again exploring a certain aspect of style
    * I've noticed Jacob was very good at figuring out and verbalising little tricks he discovered, and Karina was talking about her 'hand butt' breakthrough; it could be super valuable to explore those recurring issues or points of improvements. You could explore different tips and tricks, and/or work through some trial and errors to see what kind of solutions and shortcuts you can come up with; this could also be something the two teachers could do together, learning from each other
    * I came across a small but super good channel doing art lessons: Winged Canvas. Firstly, you could watch some of it to get inspired for new classes; but also, it would be amazing if you could have them on as guests for a draw class episode; especially Jessie would jive with you extremely well I feel; she's very funny and imaginative; she's also a wonderful teacher, and could surely help you with improving your classes even more if that's something you want
    * I've noticed that some of you can draw and analyse/teach at the same time while others get kind of quiet while drawing; perhaps you can try to distribute the teaching and drawing between the two people doing the art class? Like one of you draws, and the other describes what's happening, notices patterns, and talks about what we can learn from it.

Could there be another draw class for color and lighting, especially how to effectively practice or get comfortable with going outside of your default in those areas? It's something I am really struggling especially with my slow switch towards digital art and I think those are features that come through so well in so many drawfee renders

Other thoughts I've had are drawclasses on ways to apply anatomy to less-straightforward things such as mechs, anthros, and things with non-human features (like 4 arms instead of 2); how to make characters relative to each other such that they are clearly supposed to fit the same world but be unique; and something with hinting at and drawing different textures like scales, fur, etc.

One thing that could replace drawclass, if they ever needed to, would be streaming while rendering art, and going over their process. I imagine they wouldn't want to show them rendering the pieces from main episodes - not without demanding a lot of trust from the patrons - but maybe they could add extra assets to episodes, giving the episodes more value but also giving a specific time in which to do this extra work. One option would be to go back to doing the speed drawing of them rendering a thematic mug that they used to do before every episode. But the could do anything

I just want to express how nice these practice streams are. It's really lovely to draw along and just vibe for a bit, and seeing other people practice is really motivating to go get off my ass and do the same. Also just like, y'all are good artists. It's really nice seeing you draw what you want. c:
If y'all ever want to do anything like that, it'd also be lovely to see you work on personal art, or just drawing whatever comes to mind. Though I do understand how burnout does tend to creep into all things monetised, so of course only at your own discretion. It's just lovely seeing you draw things that are outside of the cursed shit we, the fans, ask you to draw hahah (not that I don't love those, because I absolutely do lol).
Thank you for another great stream ^v^

Like, should I get the entire pose on the page, even if it's wrong, or just getting as much of the pose as I can do on the page?
