    Checklist
    1. Write the vision. Make a plan. To a walk through and wrote visions for every room. List all the things that need to be done, menial tasks included. Go deep - every single space needs to be accounted for.
    2. Start with the room you spend most time in. Choose the one that doesn’t have sentimental items.
    3. Start with what you can see. Clear all the shit that has a home. All surfaces should be cleared.
    4. Put everything into 4 categories. Trash, give, keep sell. Be ruthless with clearing your sh*t. Finish the task!! Don’t leave it around, get rid of it asap.
    5. Assign homes for everything that stays.
    6. Set timer for 20 mins. And GO. Work with a sense of urgency.
    7. After clearing and getting in order, make it excellent. Make it shine! Clean!! Than light a candle, get it sparkling and smelling amazing.

Yes! The guilt cycle! Aurghhh. So frustrating!
My husband and I are switching closets today. It’s his day off.
My space was walk in and often became a black hole of gifts left unwrapped or unsent, dangerous toys I confiscated from the kids, and jewelry hiding that my mother gave me for our wedding. Besides hoard levels of clothes half leftover from our move from the desert to a town that is a a cross between a Hallmark movie and a seasonal calendar. Oh my.
Today will be a great day. I consider this time an investment in our future and a bonding opportunity with him.
Already we’ve rid ourselves of 3 small shopping bags full of tissue paper, empty Amazon boxes, old price tags… and other trash. Yikes! How embarrassing!
So glad we are getting a deep clean opportunity now. Phew!
What matters is today, we change. Today, we address this, and nip the monkey in our back in the bud.
I’m looking forward to a smaller closet because it will force me to be more efficient and less cluttered.
    Let’s go, Baby, Go!
    Thanks for this encouragement!

So according to this my life is chaotic. Oh wait, it IS chaotic.
I just had to move AGAIN. I’m dealing with three big storage units, a house full of boxes, a garage full of boxes, one bedroom full of things I need to go through, a kitchen nothing fits in, and a living room that looks like a storage unit. 😮
I used your book before to declutter my former house - before we later ended up selling it. Husband moved to heaven, I’ve ended up in a 1200 sq ft house (as opposed to 3800 sq ft) full of clutter.
    I’ve been feeling a bit overwhelmed. 😳
This podcast is so perfectly timed (again) because I refuse to live like this and miss what God has for me to do. I have my marching order. Go forth and declutter! 💕

Start with the dishes. Run a load of stuff you'll be most likely to need for supper or lunch, later today
Then, throw a load of laundry in. Hint: do sheets in the morning and bedding so it will be out of the dryer and back on the bed before nighttime. Or do a load of most likely to need stiff first.
With those 2 going via machine, tackle the most visible spaces from the entry.
Start with a trash sweep. Take nothing but a teach bag for a walk through 1st.
Then have 1 donateable donate box, sized so it will be easy to carry to the car, like an old diaper box. Fill that.
1 boxor basket should be labeled "save / store elsewhere"
Everything else gets a home in that room, gets donated, or goes in the stored elsewhere box.
Figure out where to store those things.
Like setup a craft drawer or cabinet for kids markers, or ciks, scissors... Put that stuff there.
Shoo for or convert an old vanity cabinet into a storage option for the space.
Curate what you'll keep each week.
Finally, dust, wipe, then vacuum from top to bottom.
    Phew! Amazing!
Now start in the next most visible space or do the same process in your bedrooms, where you'll value the space and aesthetic of clean and organized the most.
    Cheers!
The 20 minute timer is a life - saver!

Hi Terri. I have to take exception to the notion that how you do one thing is how you do everything. It makes no sense. There are areas of life where I am an absolute perfectionist. Other areas, I am lackadaisical about. It all depends on what your strengths are, where your talents lie and what you care about. As a linguist, I am persnickety about correct word usage, grammar and spelling. When people mispronounce words, use the wrong word or grammar, I automatically correct them in my head. As an artist, I appreciate beauty and tend to decorate my home in staged areas. Because those things matter to me. And I am very good at them. My closet is organized to within an inch of its life, but I've never dusted in there or vacuumed the floor. My kitchen is super organized and I wash what I use as I cook so there's less to clean later. One the other hand, because I live in a 1 bedroom apt., and my child had the bedroom until they moved out a few months ago, the main room served as my bedroom, dining room, studio, living room and office. There are jewelry making , crafting, sewing and building tools and supplies in various nooks and crannies... wherever I could fit them as I acquired them. So it's a mess, and I am drowning. I've tried the KonMari method and got rid of over 500 books (and I don't mind saying, that HURT), but It's a drop in the bucket. I have clicked the "Like" button, because I did like the energy you project. I also subscribed and downloaded your eBook. I shall endeavour to read it asap and see if it helps me get more focused, as I get overwhelmed rather easily. I'll let you know how it goes. But whether it works for me or not, I'm sure it will for a lot of people and thank you for so generously sharing what you found helpful.

My place used to be very clean. Then I became more successful, and now my work takes a lot of my energy. So in my off time, I don’t feel like also constantly working. When I’m super on top of cleaning, de-cluttering, organizing, it all feels like I’m just working 24/7. Is there any advice or strategy for this? Also, I have ADHD, which means that I have low dopamine. Dopamine is what triggers the executive function of Task Initiation. Activities with accountability, the urgency of a real deadline, external motivation of company, and/or personal interest trigger dopamine and thus trigger Task Initiation for people with ADHD. People without ADHD have dopamine production triggered by their regular daily activities. I have ADHD. I do great with the accountability of work and friends, but not with my personal environment. Before I was successful, my place was always clean, because I thought it was a requirement for success. That was my dopamine/motivation for Task Initiation. Now I realize that it’s not a requirement for my current level of success.
