@@southern207hobbies I go for it after giving Hyce a few warnings
OH GOD HE WAS WAITING THE WHOLE DAMN TIME!
As Hyce is enjoying the “pretty river canyon valley thing,” we’re all out here, listening to Kenosha fast approaching its climax, and thinking what a horrible place this is to derail in!
And i think to myself… what a horrible thing~
Said the same thing and just took a sip of coffee, sat back, and watched it unfold
Timestamp?
Imagine boarding an Amtrak train and hearing “Smells Like Kenosha” in the background
I would be off that train before the guitar starts.
I actually was on an Amtrak yesterday, and I ll be on another one tomorrow returning home.
33:10 the image of hyce SPRINTING up the center aisle of all the passenger cars while they are full of people is hilarious
Do you think the passengers had a SINKING feeling? :)

1:20:45 That was a terrifying fake-out, Smells like Kenosha really played on my nerves this time.,

Hyce: "It doesn't break down the yard tracks."

“It’ll be fine!”
Kenosha plays back to back as Hyce rams the tender into the one passenger car that fought so hard to keep from careening off the cliff, only to have it plug up the tunnel….😂
And what great timing! Just received my shipment from Hyce Trains with two ES&D boxcars and a pee cup…
You love to see it.
Paragraph 4 states. In result of a accident or death have Occurred.... all evidence is destroyed on site and a missing persons report is filed 24 hours after.
Hyce's driving makes me understand why the old railroad timetables I've seen list all the company doctors...
"We have arrived at our terminus station. The local doctor is located next door to the train station. Thank you for riding the ED&D, please remember to take your bags and trash on the way out.

the way he says *MICROSHUNTER, POG* is so funny
The timing is hilarious, just sent it (floor it?, no don’t floor it, FLOOR IT?, no-, FLOORING IT) with a passenger job myself and put everything in the dirt.
Great video as always.
Edit: I do believe that for passenger jobs, in order for them to load/unload at stations, the coaches for that job have to be stopped between the two “track” signs. Example being at the ov station, they all would have to be stopped between the two 1LP signs.
Hyce: "It seems like a fair amount of you watch these all the way through."
Me: "I like trains."
Admittedly the 30s of spicy derail sounds right before that may have been a clue but that is truly a cursed speed sign. I know the signs are procedurally generated, but some manual input can go a long way.
Be sure to check the lost and found for anything you might be missing that you may need (i.e., extra lanterns)
A few days ago I discovered that we have an active loco community here in NZ one part even keeping some steamers active baced outta Glenbrook with a Copple of 464T's in service and a 482 needing its next overhall.
51:44 as Brett would say, how'd it go? "Poorly!!"
Idea.... Use the Little battery doot to run a Passenger train.
Or one on each end
World’s slowest passenger train
I wonder if the battery charge on it would even last long enough to pull a reasonably sized train any significant distance over the road.
I think that’s the origin of the term bullet train. Seeing your entire train yeeted out the end of the tunnel!😂
15:12 Glow brake shoes GLOW!
TONIGHT on Bottom Gear, Hyce has a time with The Slippery Princess locomotive, the ES&DT scum class expess goes to the lake for a swim, the Whistle recives the carnage he craves, and a passenger car receives and unwanted dance lesson
I picked up a pizza and sat down to relax, but none of the shows i'm watching had any new episodes out… so I opened up UA-cam and there was a new Hyce video. The perfect thing to watch to wind down in the evening.
Man, not done yet, but this is crazy! Seriously, this coastal alignment is some "built in the 1880s-90s 'We're gonna lay the track directly to the shape of the terrain'" bullcrap! Pretty sure this would've been abandoned once the other more viable routes came into existence. Yet, here we are! Somehow with good rails, fresh ties and ballast, and *_A SEVENTY(kph) INTO A FORTY._* For all you fellow Americans, that's a change from ~43.5 to 25 mph. Regardless, THAT. IS. MADNESS. At least, when it's without enough warning! Like, not even a sign saying "Hey, you might wanna start slowing down soon," no, just all of a sudden "Hey, it's 40 now! What's that, you're going 70 and there's no way you'll slow down in time? Too bad, have fun dying!" Seriously, the only way you'd know of the danger is if you'd run that section before, and even then that means the 70 is almost useless, since you'd have to slow down well in advance at that speed(should be more like 60-50). Man, they did you dirty, Hyce. Can't wait to see how this got sorted out(also, thank goodness for your Hudson staying on, most likely that 4-wheeled lead truck helped with that).
I was on that train! I now am lost somwhere in the valley and am cold and wet and bloody. why'd ya do that?

Representing the 15%. The Kenosha outside that tunnel did not go well as you aptly put it Hyce, but on the bright side the remaining passengers got to enjoy a nice picnic with a view while your train was re-railed. Great video as always Hyce
Have you ever run a herratage passenger train on a mainline? Yes me neither, but I run a bit of narrow gauge and a smaller bit of standard-gauge-privatized-branchline-stuff and if you have a schedule it can get real ass. Every year there is an event where a 52 or sth like that runs a train up a pretty steep hilline. I was watching it with my father a few yrs ago. The train started to loose power and stopped. Then it started blowing off steam and after half an hour it started moving again. We were standing right at the steepest part of the line and the train had no speed to work with.
It soon made it to us and the loco was really hard at work. Religious sound.
The train arrived an hour late.
I love how Hyce talks to the train when it spins like ya talk to a little kid being a pain in the arse
1:20:52 he really had to fake us out with "Smells like Kenosha" only to line the switch at the last second
It felt like the move to do. :D
1:06:27 XD Now I'm just imagining Steamer, Smokey, and the Conductor working together to chuck coaches off the rails so they can reduce the car count! 🤣🤣🤣
49:44 i think the best part about this is the turn around and seeing that the tender is sideways.
Hyce over here reenacting the Derail Valley Simulator short
The DM3 is perfect for local passenger jobs. Strong enough to pull 3 cars at speed, also strong enough to slow it down with only the dynamic brake.

33:30. you running through the carriages makes me want a drg br 70. the small 2-4-0 tank engine with a walkway through the coalbunker. that would be so cool for running these small regional trains. which is also what they ran irl.
i love these videos they last me like 2 days i fall asleep to them and rewind til i remember and watch them during the day if i have time
Gonna have to go download this updated passenger mod. Love how it actually makes you take the less ideal route for the sake of the job. Finally a reason for the scenic route!
Long day at work, now to watch Hyce run train
i beat John here
Oh no
Hyce turned it up to eleven
51:23 time for another shunting job 😂
Once there were passenger cars in the water and the tender wedged in a tunnel, I would have been tempted to stick a red flag between the rails and locked out the switches on both ends. Years from now the old timers will smile and shake their heads when asked about it.
to ES&DT this much is a skill, one that requires patience to wait until the perfect moment, finesse to derail in the most fatal and inconvenient way, and precision to make sure that all involved where harmed in the proper manner. With great motive power, comes the great opportunity to ES&DT.
Blue for intercity and purple for regional. As a Victorian, I find these colour choices very interesting.

Super excited that I just ordered my ES&D HO boxcar today! Can't wait to see that behind my brand new UP Veranda!
Derail Valley Video!!! So fun.
33:20 - a real railway worker never runs; unless the train is on fire (or clock off time is at risk)! One of the first things I learned xD Actually there's a real and serious side to that. It's what I teach apprentices when I happen to work with them. Paraphrasing Master Yoda: Haste leads to stress. Stress leads to errors. Errors … lead to suffering. Best case, you end up messing up and having to redo the whole process from the beginning, taking more time than it'd have taken you to do it calmly in the first place. Worst case … you mess up and hundreds of people die.
36:15 - so, uh, you're kink shaming the level designers at Altfuture?
43:10 - it's chainandbufferville, so you can get away with the independent, sort of.
45:00 - isn't it maybe the hand brake it waited for?
49:00 - I certainly do watch through - which probably explains the backlog 😅 It's funny how sometimes there's something to comment on every few moments and then there's just half an hour of nothing to say. But I enjoy it fully ;-)
50:00 - there's the thumbnail material. And the 70 before did say there was a speed drop coming up - and if I remember the DV "signal system" correctly, that means the drop is at least 20 km/h, so … =P
51:50 - what the heck is that brown fountain? Is it supposed to be the septic tank exploding? o.O
55:40 - as we say in German: Everything went to plan, it's just that the plan was bad.
1:12:55 - I think I actually can top that slightly. There's an official accident report from the 90s here in Germany where two trains collided head on (sadly with fatalities, IIRC) due to signaller error. The signaller in question had one station on a single track line. The station consisted of two directional tracks, so in total two switches, to entry signals and two exit signals. The accident report states: "The signaller was operating at his full intellectual capacity with this station." That's a class of burn I'm otherwise used to from Overwatch's Moira ("clearly, evolution does not distribute its gifts equally"), not from such official, serious paperwork.
1:16:10 - which, IIRC from what you said at some point in time in some episode about something (
Everything went to plan, it's just the plan was bad.... Lol! That's hilarious. I'd love to watch that film. I'll have to look for a translated version. Živjeli!

I just got the last licence in my career save last night, and I ran my first military 3 / hazmat 3 train today. Although for some reason the steam engine I was using was completely unable to get above 9 bar, even when sitting still. Water was within the sight glass, blower was on, I wasn't using the steam, and the train was undamaged, so I have no idea what was wrong, but I was able to get back to the harbor eventually because most of the route back is downhill. It was also in a really bad thunderstorm in game, which made it extra tricky. I probably did a lot of damage due to wheelslip, almost entirely while braking.
Edit: I just found the problem. I completely forgot about the damper. It was closed for the whole trip.
(by the way, I'm not sure I'm using the right terms or spelling them correctly, so if I said something wrong please correct me)
Nice touch with only smelling a bit like Kenosha near the end. Lol
Also proud to be in that 15%.
Since you mentioned it first...a 70 into a 40? Sounds like a minor case of "DuPont Syndrome" in that speed design.
Also, nice fakeout with Kenosha near the end.
I think spotting passengers is like spotting freight. The cars need to be roughly between the track number signs on either end of the station (although I believe that if the train is too long to fit, then as long as the space between the signs has train in it.
Side note: the steam locomotive sander valve has intermediate positions, so you can fine down the amount of sand you’re using to conserve it if you’re using a lot.
i was so sure hyce was going to sandwich the locomotive
As far as shovels go I like using the Golden for startup, the standard for over the road running, and expert for shunting.
The remote dispatch mod would let someone else check and set you switches, as well as spot your cars for you. Might not be as interactive but could possibly be fun to watch someone try to supervise your chaos.
I think we're going to need a DE6 and a Slug to get out of this mess
Me having wrecked a passenger job : those are expensive to screw up
Can you please do a video on the micro switcher, like a shunting job and or seeing how well it gose iver the road.. and talk a little bit about irl relastions to i

It’s only mostly derailed, and there’s a big difference between mostly derailed and all derailed lol
49:54 In the immortal words of Scott Gaunson, well that’s not in one piece anymore
I feel like in addition to insurance you'd need hush money or something to take care of all the people who just "mysteriously disappeared" after this accident
1:26:06: Reminds me when I went at an (estimate) 70Km/h in DV and then derailed at a turn.
Just the carnage I predicted to happen 🔥💪🏻
The past couple of Derail and Railroader,I've wondered has anyone put the water scoop in the simulation/game? I'm not even sure which lines did that. I think NYC and UP made it so they could fill on the fly.
I have heard of the NYC, and PRR doing that stateside. I think MSTS had it for the Scotsman?
Hyce i cant speak for everyone else but I do enjoy the longer videos too. So dont be afraid to put out feature-length films lol.
Maybe its because I tend to run the Union Pacific 4-12-4 wheel arrangement and pull overly long and heavy trains but I have never experienced a need for the other shovels.
