I remember having these on tape, and playing them to anyone who would listen when I was at school/college in 1993/94. The feedback I got ranged from "quite funny" to "boring". A few years later when I'm Alan Partridge came out everyone was quoting Partridge and thought he was brilliant. I felt like a music fan who discovers an amazing band before everyone else, and then gets slightly disgruntled when they hit the big time and everyone starts liking them!
Same here my friend…and in fact I had a similar experience with the TV show, ‘The Day Today’. Used to watch and re-watch the VHS tape over and over, then show friends who thought it was a real news programme!

According to Armando Iannuci the BBC got complaints from listeners who didn't realise this was a comedy because of Alan's treatment toward Simon Fisher
Heard these premiere on Long Wave on Radio 4 in Dublin in 1992. So as of 2021 Simon Fisher then 9, the child prodigy would be almost 40! Alan is heading for 70!
Episode 2 transmitted 12/8/1992 BBC Radio 4 with the following "guests": Simon Fisher, child prodigy; Janey Katz hypnotherapist; Nick Ford lawyer. One of the classics of the Partridge canon.
Came across these with my mate when we were 17 we loved Alan partridge front the tv show and these were amazing funny than anything he has ever done. Have them on cd somewhere. The one where he takes drugs is hilarious. I think this is the funnest of them all thought.
Tandle Hill is a local park near middleton , greater Manchester where Steve Coogan grew up. Alan Partridge as a youngster grew up around Norwich. Just saying.
The Day Today team did a recent Radio 4 special and Coogan said he had received a letter of complaint from an a listener who was outraged about how nasty Alan Partridge was being to the child prodigy Simon played by Doon Mackichan. He said he still has the framed letter in his bathroom.
You have to remember that early Partridge was supposed to be a sports reporter and was based more on sports commentators (Motson) and you can hear that more here, then he became more TV chat show orientated sounding a bit like (Richard Madeley and John Stapleton) and the voice has moved on again
Interesting. On the version I taped off Radio 4 back in 1992 (which I still have) it's definitely The Clash. Maybe there were copyright problems when it came to releasing the CD?
Don't think this is episode 1, as he refers to a review of his show, so how can this be the first? I have these all on CD from the BBC, and they got the order wrong. The first disc doesn't have the first two episodes.

Lol same with the Armando show on radio one. Used to listen to those on tape. Seeing them all launch on to their own tv shows was ace.
"Needless to say, I had the last laugh"

I don’t think the radio show is nearly as good though unfortunately, the character was clearly still developing here.
@DaveyandOdetaI took..... Drugs
Never heard these before and I consider myself a big AP fan.
Thanks for sticking these online!

Pity he is a communist twat.
Isn’t this the dude from Skirmish, the military based TV quiz show that used to be on UK conquest?
Did that show not have top ratings for that type of show on at that time of day.
@@paddyc9653 In the Norfolk area, yes
I know him from radio Norwich, I'm a farmer and relations between the farming community in Norwich and Alan have been strained
To me, he'll always be the committed - though morbidly obese - host of Crash! Bang! Wallop! What a Video.

Dear Writers, this is an incredible episode. Many thanks to you
Thats entertaiiiiiiinment.
David Schnieder's voice is so recognisable!
🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻
Radio 4 Alan Partridge still the best.
That picture is so iconic!
I don't know why but the '- with his father..' bit always makes me laugh
Better than the TV version, which is also brilliant
Oh, this really is first class!!
Lovely stuff
I think you'll find those were originally the words of Shakin' Stevens... 😂

Tony Lemesmre was in his TV show.
Lots more of this please :)

This is just brilliant 😂
His voice is a little different - Steve can't have fully decided on the accent yet.
Hints of Brummie in this, glad he went with what he did!
He mentions this in his autobiography and from the oasthouse, it's pretty funny.
@@chriselyr2484 Thanks + I'll have to look that up

I think it’s during bouncing back, that he explained he was coached in a toilet by Des Lynam (lol) to work on his nasality, hence his tone altered ;-)
You have made two glaring errors. Frankenstein is a type of zombie. Now whenever I replay that clip I know where he got his knowledge from.
It's like when people say "Tannoy" when they mean "Public Address System".
Or Hoover for vacuum cleaner. Down with this sort of thing!
great stuff as usual
Alan partridge is the goat
My minds curtain cupboard 😂😂😂😂
I love AP😁. Sorry to be a pedant though, but that was 'I Fought The Law' by 'The Bobby Fuller Four' (60s hit) Not the 70s cover version by 'The Clash'
I was going to play 'London Calling' by The Clash, but it's awful.

Thanks Joe. And on that BOMBSHELL, I, Alan Partridge, copyright violator...

Simon's Dad = Tony Haires
this is episode 2
An academic welcome
What does the jacket say?
Episode 2?
this is episode 2 isn't it?
Do you have them all?
+Reb Brown I do! The rest will be uploaded in the next couple of weeks.
blaithinxox legend
Is it Rebecca Front playing the young boy genius or the hypnotist or both?
She's definately the hypnotist
+David Tye I think Simon Fisher is played by Doon Mackichan
Is there a video version of this? It sounds like it was presented live, somewhere
No, this first series was produced solely for Radio 4, it's just canned laughter, foley etc. It did lead to the TV series of the same name though.
You can tell it’s not canned
Not canned laughter, real audience - I was lucky enough to be in it (for the last episode).
See you later colin
Colin!?
Nice to meet you, colin*
It is a tawdry show…
This isn't Alec Partridge it sound nothing like him
Who is it then?
The hypnotist did a horrible American accent lmao
Not Steve Coogan
Who do you think it is?
