The opening of Michel Lambert where they are talking about savoir v connaitre was not on my cassettes of this I bought at the time so a nice little extra...
The box does have superficial damage....but it's probably the only one in the world that's signed by Roger Moore, David Copperfield, Bill Oddie (not authenticated) and Jet from Gladiators. I tried to get Abba to sign the back of the box, but they refused. Sub-human scum.
Massive Partridge fan and had no idea that it was on radio first so this is an amazing find for me personally. Absolute genius Have you got any pubic hair?? 😂🎉
There was a version of this series uploaded on here before but this version seems like the uncut version. The Shirley Dee and Michelle Lombair interviews are a lot longer so kudos for uploading as I thought I knew these word for word
Great hearing the original broadcast continuity, even asking for applications to the tapings! The fact that the tv series was another 6 episodes of basically entirely new material from these, plus On The Hour/Day Today, shows you how on fire the Morris/Ianucci/Coogan/Front/Marber/Schneider etc crew was in the early 90s.
Yeah they tweaked some ideas but gave them a fresh spin (the one that's coming to mind is the hypnotist sketch which is way better in the TV version but is also so different that they're not really comparable)
Alan Partridge. What else is there to say? He took being an a******* to a whole new level. I doubt if it will ever be matched or surpassed Maybe Mr. Bean or the Upper class twit of the year can give him a run for his money, but few others.
Coogan's AP voice and delivery changed a couple of times since this time (1992). Here, I think Gary Lineker since picked up some aspects from this version for his TV career. A little later, Alan went a bit more David Coleman/Richard Madeley. In the latest "This Time" series, he does all kinds of strange rolling of the r's and exaggerated reactions. I don't rate it as high as the earlier stuff, the writing was better with Iannucci and Baynham.
@@remimoses3769No they have made the character a parody of itself. I agree with the OP that the Rolling Rs and strange accent changes don't add anything to the character and don't seem to resemble being based on any current TV personality. Marber, Ianucci, Chris Morris, and Schneider were better writers of the small details like "I'll be opening a conference for Nabisco at the NEC' The Gibbons don't have this knack to make tedious trivia detail funny.
Nope, it went to TV after this and in my opinion was a lesser show for it. As you only have the audio medium for humour the script was tighter, full of gags & set ups.
@@IThinkYouLookLarvely Definitely, she’s great. The TV version is still excellent - I’ve always thought they had to work on the wordplay more on the radio to make up for not having any visual gags.
A lot of great comedy starts on Radio 4. Boosh and The Day Today I think, among others. Some comedy works better on Radio, but those all transferred to TV pretty well I'd say 😉
In his AP books he (Coogan) discusses ‘losing’ his Norfolk accent. In fact, in the audiobook, he slips into original Alan for a moment, before explaining that he ‘had’ to refine the Norwich, Norfolk Co, East Anglia accent.
The snippets of news reports between episodes give this a rather haunting quality
Very dark days indeed.
It's funny the way that things just repeat themselves.
'what's left of Yugoslavia' was as funny as Partridge himself
I love how - just like in the TV show - the interviews start out friendly but descend into chaos.
Stood the test of time, I’ve got them all leather bound!!!
Keep it at room temperature or it'll crack.
The opening of Michel Lambert where they are talking about savoir v connaitre was not on my cassettes of this I bought at the time so a nice little extra...
actually that whole episode is much longer.
SMELLY ALAN FARTRIDGE!!
He loves his mum. He lives up her bum.
@@Doomanoid1979if you think that’s bad you should smell his dad 😂
Listened to these religiously when they first came out 30 odd years ago, weird how I remembered almost every word, so funny.😂

Lovely stuff.

Love love love this has been shared!!! BACK OF THE NET!!
kinda sad hearing the news reports from the bbc havent changed in all this time
It's a recording, the news won't change even if you wait 100 years...
35 years later. Still ecxellent. Well done
Heartfelt thanks. Timeless comedy genius.
The best of Partridge.
I still love the character so much....Not in a camp way. I'm mean, i'm not a raver!!😉
Good to hear you're not a gaymen
This is fascinating to listening to as Steve Coogan hasn’t *quite* worked out the iconic Partridge voice yet
There are many Partridges, about 7 so far.
That's quite odd when you realise that Coogan had been playing Alan Partridge for about 15 years already when he did this radio show.
@@HOTD108_ A couple of years perhaps but not 15.
@@samuelgarrod8327 yeah Coogan would have started playing him during the school flashbacks if that were the case.
A bit of Saxondale in the accent for me

Alan keeps mentioning this Steve Coogan guy in the outro of each episode. I wonder what happened to him?
Mmmm lovely stuff.
Fantastic light entertainment

I'd love a pair of Conrad Knight socks.
Ice white socks with a double cadet stripe. String back leather driving gloves. It's a look that says, "I'm in charge of my vehicle"
Best comedy act since sliced bread 😀
Cook pass babtridge!
Someone has sworn all over my car!
Partridge you wanker ( farmers )
These interviews remind me of the interview segments on the comedy bang bang podcast
He sounded like Gary Lineker in the early days 😅
Spot on, I just posted this and wondered if anyone else noticed 😆
I'm wearing Conrad Knight socks...
the smiling bicycle of amsterdam
"You shot Telly Savalas??"
He sounded so much more high pitched back then
Oh put a Conrad Knight sock in it
Conrad...
"I'm not threatened by your lot!"
"Shut up and shave" 😆
Shirley Dean interview completely different from original version. Anyone know why?
Hasn't quite got the AP voice down just yet. Still classic however.
I think he donated this AP voice to Gary Lineker for his TV career.

The Gibbons brothers have brought Alan on, the 2 books and the podcasts are right up there.

Great payoff in that last segment. Lovely stuff.
This is a bit weird, hearing Alan Partridge as John Motson.
It was more based on David Coleman to be fair.
@@wiseguy100 I thought he sounded like David Coleman on the earlier TV series for sure. I'm somehow hearing a future Gary Lineker on here!

This is his original voice for Alan. He had not quite got it but you can see him evolving into him.
