i just want to apologize in advance for the shitty mic sound at times in this video. I have a new Osmo Mobile handheld gimble and i think it is muffling the microphone or something. This has never happened before...so bear with it, as annoying as it can be. I am annoyed by it too! LOL. But voltage drop comparison is more important in this video than the actual sound coming through the camera mic. And one last thing for those that don't know. The system SOUNDS GREAT in person. It is as clean as it is loud. The subwoofers cause the camera mic to distort (not related to the muffled sound during commentary). But know that it don't sound distorted AT ALL on our end. Thanks!
meade916 check the actual camera it sounds like something is in the hole for the mic like some lint or something, and idgaf about the bad mic this shit is kool !
meade916 you are truly blessed to be able to make a living doing what you do. and to be able to work with such great equipment and the best speakers and amps. Your living the car audio enthusiast dream brother.
Sorry for such a LONG video but i wanted to play some different types of music for better comparison. I used hard hitting drums (Metal), with faster drums (Metal again) and of course some deeper bass (rap) as well as some rap with quick slapping thump followed by some heavy bass draw. In order for me to do this, the video HAS to run long (before/after and side by side for better visual). If you watched the entire thing, thanks a lot!
it's available now! I co-produced it with Psyph so you KNOW i made sure every song hits hard. And Psyph is great...or i wouldn't work with him. haha. Thanks!
Thanks for the great comparison video!! That was exactly what I wanted to see. I have been trying to figure out the most efficient way to help my voltage drop and I believe I'm going with the super cap bank from XS. so I searched some videos and this is exactly what I wanted to see. The side by side comparison was awesome. Thanks so much for that. BASS ON!!
Before you say anything about my ragedy upholstery in the back, it obviously USED to be a lot nicer....but i have been beating the SHIT out of everything you see there for years (over a decade) and it takes its toll. Just the hatch rubbing on the trim pieces over the years and the bass slap hitting it is enough to wear it out some. :D But the good news is, the system STILL works great after more than a decade. Just sayin'!
need more videos like this one. i miss the old build/installing videos. i understand now you are super busy with your business. ill be watching for these future upgrades. nice job
The results are a bit surprising. My experience with caps way back in the mid 90's was that they were helpful if your electrical demands were already closely met, but too many people thought it was a replacement for proper alternators and adequate grounding. Plus many of the caps were garbage Chinese made large housings with much smaller caps inside. I'm not telling you anything you didn't already know. These here are what we really need. Thanks for showing us all bro! We appreciate it.
Different subject than the caps, but pertaining to the ending comment in the video description. I've read comments from people watching these videos saying "that sounds like crap" and so forth. Trying to explain to them that the mics can't pick up low frequencies is like talking to a wall. It's like Steve said...it's all good on his end!! I can't wait to see the "Skelator" box flexing an unsuspecting windshield!!
Makes alot of sense, caps react so much faster than a battery. now that you can use huge cap banks like this it makes sense. Back in the day those 1 farad caps didnt do shit really. I ran 4 1 farad caps and 2 optimas in the 90s. But this shit nowadays is whats up! I need to get a system in my next car asap.
The fact you used Pantera for the test gets this a thumbs up from me. And hey, that system draw is a vulgar display of power...u know that pun is the shit, lol
Just watched the video of the Texas family that stopped by and checked out the Tahoe, so figured I'd comment here, do an overhaul! I wasn't a subscriber when you first built this truck so I'd be stoked to watch you create something new out of something old!
ive been watchin that tahoe on here i think since the beginning of the tahoe... i think it was and i could be wrong but like 07 or 08, even before i was a subscriber of this channel.... i never knew the voltage drop was that bad, but those super caps are doing one hell of a job
SMD LED Meters available at www.wcCarAudio.com and lots of other fine authorized dealers. The TM-1 and OM-1 are sold out and coming back soon...i have lots of VM-1's as well as VM-1hv's in stock though!
Just got the SB630 group 51 for my setup and the difference is noticeable! D4S JP23v2 doing up to 3,000 watts, plus a JL XD800/8 and wow, just wow! I see a lot less clipping due to low voltage now. It did take an hour and a half to reach my AGM's resting voltage of 12.8, but it was worth it. Don't get impatient when charging these!
Nahhh that's a beat the block Tahoe Real Bass not a wind tunnel Tahoe that DB stuff is cool and all but this is a daily window breaker a fun bass ride we already know it's crazy on DB no point in going there
I remember back in the day trying to get a ambulance alternator to fit under the hood to get the power needed. I think you have a good balance with the batts and caps. Soon you will just be pulling a trailer with a big DC generator and you can ditch about 1000 pounds of Batts, alts, wire. Just one big plug in the ass end to power it all. ;)
damn steve i like how you low key flexin all them trophies in the background 👌. can't wait to bring my g body to you and see what magic you make happen. big fan of your work...
Can I like this video twice? Nearly 2 years later watching this again. Any updates on the Tahoe Steve? Was nice to see it today with the dash cam video.
for those interested - here are some sample tracks of the new Psyph (pronounced SIFE) Morrison album "King Morrison". I am the executive producer so believe me when i say it is worth a look. If you like Rap with heavy bass, i BET you like some if not most of the songs. If you are a fan of Psyph, you will probably like ALL of them. Peep it here and report back haha ua-cam.com/video/LxEy-lbgzds/v-deo.html
Thank you for this video, the supercaps are the future, now you have more stable voltage and less weight too, the maxwell supercaps did the job too, but the caps that you bought are very cool with the case, i recently was thinking that have a number of fared that give a cost benefit, think with me, if they are charging after the beat, the supercap and the amp will need power, so they need a feedback of energy too, cheers!
SO anxious to get my 567 farad capacitor bank installed. I already have enough power from my 320 amp alternator, and I don't need much storage. The only time I'm clipping, is on those fast kick drum hits. All I'm hoping for, is some added dynamic range.
That's an Incredable difference. Those rapid short Bursts of bass are barely dipping. That's awsome because the problem I'm running into is my Voltage dips bad under short bursts like that and it's not loud. Before the alternators can kick in and do something it's too late. If I do a constant sine my Voltage drops and then alts kick in and keep it at 14.4 Volts. I got 2 Mechman 320s. I'm not running crazy power now but looking into caps and lithium
I wonder if the lithium XS30k batteries would rival these in discharge I know the caps can dump all there power almost instantly, judging by the specs the lithium may be just as good they can shit out a consistent 1080amps and a peak of twice that each. Shit Sr. Steve Meade may be able to replace all his batteries and caps for 3 or 4 XS30k's and save a ton almost. Well actually 610lbs, they weigh 35 lbs each so 140lbs to replace 750lbs and have a disgusting amount of discharge capacity 4320amps continuous and about 9000amps burst. All that while remaining at a computer and other oem electronics friendly voltage of 15v.
Your footage looks misty in brightly lit footage , I had this when I used plastic film screen protector. on the device, Your 3.sixty.3 how is your remote configured. I have master volume and sub volume, easy to get a great sound using the DD1 and -10db overlap track. I attenuate the sub volume by almost 10db for an SQ type profile, then raise it up for bigger bass, great vids keep them coming!
Hey Steve, just curious if you added a way for those capactiters to discharge that wasn't shown in the video? Yet again another great video none the less!
Theoretically one bank of 3000f caps (16v 500F) for every 1kw. 20kw you'll need 20banks. Now you need 6 more of these SB1000, full caps system ftw. Have you consider about those XS Lithium? Pretty pricey.
Hey Steve I watch all your videos, and as an installer in the early 90's I always saw caps as the way to sustain fast power. Then there was a shift to massive battery banks. Not that they didn't do that back then, but it was a two school camp. Just wondering if you were a battery guy for competition, and now you're going back to caps, or were you converted by modern auto cap stuff as the tech has been in use for decades on power poles to deliver 40,000 farad? Also, is it simply that 30 years ago there were no 20k amps, and a 1-3 farad cap or two would suffice?
I was looking around for some maxwell boostcaps, 3000 farads, those were 3.something volts and I did some napkin math, a 12v bank of caps had like 13 watts of power, storage wise Steve just lost a lot of power storing capacity, but he needs to run his engine while running that system anyway. If the caps keep the volts up then it's no big loss, especially with the dynamic nature of music, but he can't sustain a bass note for very long, (like half an hour, unrealistic for music) his alternators could make about 20kw, his install was what? 40kw? if it can charge enough in between bass notes it's fine tho. the caps are doing a great job at maintaining the voltage, and I don't think he cares much about energy storage, he can just rev his engine. I haven't looked at the specs of the batts or caps he uses, 5 am, I should be asleep xD.
You know, we can make a 7,000 Farad cap with aluminum sheets, a high temperature paper plumbing supplies, two strips of all-thread and some hand tools. At least one video is here on UA-cam.
you really can bro, i was amazed. And i did NOT get these for free. I wouldn't praise them if they didn't help. But damn! it is noticeable and i have a LOT of power draw.
I think ideally you need a good mixture of both. Caps went to wayside for a long time I feel, no one really runs them. But these big cap banks are whats up. A bunch of them def helps overall.
I just bought an sb500 to take the place of my under hood d3400. Got it to pair with my headways. Cant install it yet. Someone forgot to put the light bulb in it. They remember the orange paper that attaches to the light bulb wire though. Lol
I too was curious about that..wouldnt swapping out a couple of the remaining (or all of them)D3100s with some lithiums reduce weight, while adding huge reserve capacity.I might not fullly understand the supercaps though so forgive my ignorance.
That makes sense. Most people don't realize that with most batteries that you're alt is doing all the work until you drop into the 12.6v-12.5v range before your batteries even do any work on the reserve side. Anything above 12.6v is all alt.
since this is a fairly large capacitor do you thing it would help with light dimming on lower powered systems. my system only draws 120amp of current and I've got a 150amp alt so I don't drop voltage much just those couple of tenths of a volt
Dang you got that much electrical power being made but it's still drops to the 11s? Damn and yes I know you got a lot of watts too but that seems weird to me that it drops when you got crazy juice........ and damn those new batteries are awesome
Kurloz Soriano it drops like that mostly because the voltage regulators in the alternators take milliseconds to react. add that to a huge draw of current your going to see voltage drops
Hey Steve, when was the last time your bank of 10 d3100s was charged up? Im wondering if the fact that the caps were fully charged when the other d3100s weren't would make that big of a difference in a comparison test
i keep my Tahoe floating on an XS Power Intellicharger 24/7. Regardless. In a test like this, the ALTERNATORS are the real star believe it or not. Without those Mechman alts keeping them full, the caps are worthless. You need a good combo of items to make this work. :)
Pantera for the win!!, that song "tunnel vision" at 6:25 is WORLDS BETTER then that garbage kodak black put out thats "topping the charts"/destroying the foothold that TRUE hip-hop has made since the 80s, 90s(best era IMO), pre 05'.. Mumble rap being a prime example!!
I have a question about Batteries. I have 16 Absorbed Power GT12-75C's in my truck. They are about 3 years old now. I was wondering how long are they expected to last? I thought maybe they were getting a bit old. It will be expensive to replace them.
i just want to apologize in advance for the shitty mic sound at times in this video. Thanks!

meade916 check the actual camera it sounds like something is in the hole for the mic like some lint or something, and idgaf about the bad mic this shit is kool !
meade916 It's pretty hilarious watching the UA-cam caption try to decipher Psyph Morrison songs through your bass 😄
meade916 you are truly blessed to be able to make a living doing what you do. and to be able to work with such great equipment and the best speakers and amps. Your living the car audio enthusiast dream brother.

Sorry for such a LONG video but i wanted to play some different types of music for better comparison. meade916 could you use these batteries for a hydraulic system on a car
meade916 hell yeah that new psyph Morrison album hits hard, love it 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥✊
fu#k ya you can bro. These would be amazing hydraulic batteries.
it's available now! I co-produced it with Psyph so you KNOW i made sure every song hits hard. And Psyph is great...or i wouldn't work with him. haha. Thanks!

thanks Mike!
meade916 yow sup bro i got a stetsom 6000 what you think of those amp i fine it got lots of juice man for the price
Insane man....I remember sitting in that beast at CES ....I can not imagine how loud it is now ... keep up the good work
need more videos like this one. i miss the old build/installing videos. i understand now you are super busy with your business. ill be watching for these future upgrades. nice job
I love that Tahoe you put some serious work into it. I remember watching the build on it great work.... Not too many can hang with you.
Great video Steve, I have been following your work for years man. Keep up the good work
Much respect on strutting some Pantera. You never fail to impress with your builds and content.
The results are a bit surprising. awesome video, i love seeing the before and after comparisons. now i have something else on my wish list lol
Significant difference man!!! Love this tahoe!! 👍👌
you can never go wrong with xs power
Steve, I really admire what you do bro, keep it up.
Cool review ! They really made a huge difference in Keeping the Voltage stable... Glad to see you got that Osmo Mobile , Its worth its weight in gold.
so far i hate it.
Makes alot of sense, caps react so much faster than a battery. now that you can use huge cap banks like this it makes sense. Back in the day those 1 farad caps didnt do shit really. And Steve Thanks For The Hat Decal And The 2 Psyph CDs You Sent Me 2 Years Ago Still Bumping Them Everyday Lol
The fact you used Pantera for the test gets this a thumbs up from me. And hey, that system draw is a vulgar display of power...u know that pun is the shit, lol
sounds awesome steve! keep up the good work, looking forward to more amp and subwoofer tests!

Nice to see an update on the Tahoe. It's been a while!
this video just convinced me to go with these caps. thank you
1:33 I got that stomache feel, when you know you're about to experience something real bad.
Like pushing your screwdriver thru you brand new subwoofer
good video man I was hoping for the side by side to see the difference and you didn't disappoint
SMD LED Meters available at www.wcCarAudio.com and lots of other fine authorized dealers. The TM-1 and OM-1 are sold out and coming back soon...i have lots of VM-1's as well as VM-1hv's in stock though!
Really interesting the difference between batt's & Cap's... learning here ✌🏼
wow barely any voltage drop. What a difference. awesome video man

Perfect video, great info to get started on, and wonderful presentation with outcome and comparison! You rock!
I notice the leds on the gauges are brighter too. Invent a switch to go back and forth between the batts and caps.
We want to see a DB test on the tahoe..............Anyone here with me on that
Nahhh that's a beat the block Tahoe Real Bass not a wind tunnel Tahoe that DB stuff is cool and all but this is a daily window breaker a fun bass ride we already know it's crazy on DB no point in going there
@@chrisnelson9411 he did a 158 many years back when he had the RE MT's

Good shit Steve, it would've taken 2 weeks worth of videos for Doug to change out those batteries lol
Damn!!! what a difference and damn Steve the Tahoe can still put them 6ft under!!
damn steve i like how you low key flexin all them trophies in the background 👌. can't wait to bring my g body to you and see what magic you make happen. big fan of your work...

Awesome video got 2 love the Tahoe and the Xs power cap banks...,☝👈👍👌
wow nice truck steve,i learn something new today,i havent ran caps in over 10 years just multi batt now i gotta try 1 of those
Thank you for this video, the supercaps are the future, now you have more stable voltage and less weight too, the maxwell supercaps did the job too, but the caps that you bought are very cool with the case, i recently was thinking that have a number of fared that give a cost benefit, think with me, if they are charging after the beat, the supercap and the amp will need power, so they need a feedback of energy too, cheers!
There are tons of people using Maxwell caps to replace their main starting battery. cheaper and last longer. Oh yeah lighter too LOL.
Congrats on ur new caps Steave
you don't need to explain yourself dude, the world knows your name and knows your system knocks. your followers know you dude!
Ive heard that a lot of microphones pick up the sounds that the motors of the gimbal make. Might have to go to an external mic or something.
man I love that song tunnel vision and running like ap. the whole album is fire and beats crazy.. go get it if you haven't already...
Good job Steve, excellent video
Steve good video and who cares if it is long lol it is well worth it man.🔊🔊🔊
thanks Mario!
came in clutch with the cc-1. thanks bro
SO anxious to get my 567 farad capacitor bank installed. I already have enough power from my 320 amp alternator, and I don't need much storage. The only time I'm clipping, is on those fast kick drum hits. All I'm hoping for, is some added dynamic range.

Your 3.sixty.3 how is your remote configured. I have master volume and sub volume, easy to get a great sound using the DD1 and -10db overlap track. I attenuate the sub volume by almost 10db for an SQ type profile, then raise it up for bigger bass, great vids keep them coming!
wow that a great difference in weight wise and still hold its voltage nice
Yeah they even blend in better than the blue ones and looks a lot better.
great stuff steve ...following from the Caribbean
Hey Steve, just curious if you added a way for those capactiters to discharge that wasn't shown in the video? Yet again another great video none the less!
sure did. I turned up the beat. haha! thanks man.
meade916 haha, built in! Looking forward to the next upload.
11:04 Sometimes mine goes limp too if I don't watch where I put it...
thanks for the video Steve. I was just wondering about those super caps
smd meters looking clean! feel like paying for a custom dash to have some of them on my car 😍
damn those things are light! definitely gotta look into getting one as a secondary
Double the amount of super-caps.Go from 4,000 farads to 8,000 farads...⚡🔋⚡
Theoretically one bank of 3000f caps (16v 500F) for every 1kw. 20kw you'll need 20banks. Now you need 6 more of these SB1000, full caps system ftw.

Any plans for those D3100? Nice work btw. I learn something new in every vid you post 👍
caps doing as inteended in anythin keeping voltage more stable
These are super cap not to be confused with noise filter 1 farad cap, one xs is equal to 1000 1 farad caps.
Ur just a beast Steve
I love those meters.... Are they still available?
He has some of them in stock: www.wccaraudio.com/smd-products.html?cat=130
I love your Tahoe bro....is a badass!!!!!
I was looking around for some maxwell boostcaps, 3000 farads, those were 3.something volts and I did some napkin math, a 12v bank of caps had like 13 watts of power, storage wise Steve just lost a lot of power storing capacity, but he needs to run his engine while running that system anyway. what you are hearing the the motors from the gimble
hey steve always good job man..greeting from barbados..alway very infromative, videos..
When did you put the SMD 18inch v2s in there? I must have missed that video. I always thought they were still the first version.
voltage staying strong!
You know, we can make a 7,000 Farad cap with aluminum sheets, a high temperature paper plumbing supplies, two strips of all-thread and some hand tools. At least one
video is here on UA-cam.
Make a tutorial
sick !!! hell of an improvement !!!
I was wondering what I'm going to do, 6 d3100 but might go with a few of them caps and less batteries ✌👑
you really can bro, i was amazed. And i did NOT get these for free. I wouldn't praise them if they didn't help. But damn! it is noticeable and i have a LOT of power draw.
nothing's free, I got 3 3100s in my center console I made. JP posted it a while back 🏆started watching you guys then I became more onto car audio
I think ideally you need a good mixture of both. Caps went to wayside for a long time I feel, no one really runs them. But these big cap banks are whats up. A bunch of them def helps overall.
Saved 200 lbs
Basically took a grown man out of the Tahoe
What was the zero to sixty time before the swap in the Tahoe, 35 seconds!??!? Damn!
I didn't anticipate how sexy those caps would look in there 😎
love that you test with Pantera!
Were these installed batteries to caps to amplifiers, or vice versa? And, where is it fused?
that mic giving the video a bit of a spooky vibe
i know...totally annoying. lol
I just bought an sb500 to take the place of my under hood d3400. Got it to pair with my headways. Cant install it yet. Someone forgot to put the light bulb in it. They remember the orange paper that attaches to the light bulb wire though. Lol
Hopefully the Alts can hang with the extra draw.
Steve I'm surprised you haven't made the move to Lithium in the Tahoe. Any particular reason you haven't? Just curious.
lithium batteries would not benefit my system at all. The caps are the preferred choice for what i am doing.
Figured a couple 80 ah Lithiums could replace your whole battery bank and weigh hundreds of pounds less.
I too was curious about that..wouldnt swapping out a couple of the remaining (or all of them)D3100s with some lithiums reduce weight, while adding huge reserve capacity.I might not fullly understand the supercaps though so forgive my ignorance.
Alternators are my choice for power. Fuck lithium. I am moving up to 14v batts next.
That makes sense. Most people don't realize that with most batteries that you're alt is doing all the work until you drop into the 12.6v-12.5v range before your batteries even do any work on the reserve side. Anything above 12.6v is all alt.
since this is a fairly large capacitor do you thing it would help with light dimming on lower powered systems. my system only draws 120amp of current and I've got a 150amp alt so I don't drop voltage much just those couple of tenths of a volt
been watching since the tahoe window shake
Impressive. XS Power FTW
Remember, "Always" cut towards your buddy not towards your body.... Words of wisdom from my late father... Lol...
I hate charging and discharging caps. Scariest part of playing with bigger systems imo.
meade916 gotcha bro, I wasn't even thinking about the alts. Sweet way to shave 200 lbs nonetheless
I was hopeing you played "AP"!!! Them lowsssss
kenny etenne wats ap?
I can make my own decisions...but when you use theas product i know i must use the best!!! So this is what im gona use!!!!
I have a question about Batteries. I have 16 Absorbed Power GT12-75C's in my truck. They are about 3 years old now. I was wondering how long are they expected to last? I thought maybe they were getting a bit old. It will be expensive to replace them.
