“I’m anti social, I’m prickly, but I love people” that’s exactly me. Wow. He’s right, it feels good to know you’re not alone and not as weird as you think.

Joe Gilgun is my favourite actor, not only do I love his work but he's also spoken candidly about mental health issues in ways that I have really identified with. I wish I knew him, he seems like such a stand up guy. Plus he swears as much as I do 😂 This is a great interview. 🖤

I completely agree. He is one
Of if not my favourite actor, not only that it’s the person he is that makes him so incredible. His bravery to speak so openly
About his personal struggles, which for
      Most men of that
Age is so hard to do, makes him so important, Cos he will inspire other men to be
More open. He’s so normal and such a down to earth run of
      The
Mill, British lad who’s showing others that mental health isn’t a stigma!!!
He’s lovely & incredibly talented. He talks about his childhood and it’s so relatable to so many working class families and he’s such a good role model for young ppl today. Bloody love him

His brutal honesty is so endearing and him talking about this is just what the male population needs. These young lads need to be exposed to male role models who struggle with their emotional health and can still go on to be successful and lead fulfilling lives.
And Joe is looking mighty fine for 37!

I’ve admired him since This is England came out and for over a decade, I’ll watch anything he’s in. I’d absolutely love to just talk to him all day and all night long. He’s an utterly fascinating person. Seth Rogan said he was the most interesting person he’d ever met.

I love watching interviews with Joe. He is SO charismatic, so relatable and so vulnerable in the candid way he always speaks to people. I could listen to him talk for hours. I do think it's admirable how humble he is and how proud he is of his roots, but I think it's such a shame that he doesn't recognise how talented and unironically intelligent he actually is. He's better at expressing himself than he realises. It's rare to see an actor be so frank about their mental health, and struggling with ADHD, BPD, depression and anxiety myself it's so important to have people vocalise those struggles and be able to incorporate them into their work. As debilitating as those things are they don't need to prevent you from pursuing your dreams, even if you have to navigate them a bit differently from others. He clearly understands how difficult it can be to regulate your emotions and see value in yourself without self destructing and it just makes him such a sincere person. He is such a delight and exactly the kind of guy you'd love to just go for a pint with and put the world to rights, because he has so much to say. And you would just be crying laughing. Thank you for discussing so many crucial topics and sharing this with us!

So thankful to Joe & Edith for this interview. I've been fucking with depression for a few years now, those are the words that all of us needed. I've never related to anyone more than to Joe. Wholeheartedly admire all the honesty and simple truth from this lad. I wish in our world nowadays would be more people like him, more kindness, more love❤

I got diagnosed with ADHD now, at 37. I've been living with my thoughts pinballing in my brain for nearly 4 decades, moods swinging like crazy, absurd impulsive decisions (i'm covered in tatts, and one REALLY SUCKS but it was the spur of the moment, heh) and abrasive anger, and self destructive attitude that i don't even perceive as such, literal panic everytime the phone rings 'cause I don't know what the person on the other side was, or could want (i still ask everyone to message me instead of calling) and it scares me. I forgot 17 whole months of my life cause i had a huge breakdown and can't remember a single thing, only that i'm still scared of my couch 'cause I know i spent most of my time vegetating there (just imagine a 37 YO scared of a damn couch). I'm the "smart kid that doesn't apply to her studies", like many kids are, and I still have to learn on my own a fuc*load of things like what a BPD reaction is , or why the heck I spent last morning crying my eyes out while asking myself why the heck I was crying my eyes out. We need information, we need actual diagnosis and we need to understand that getting through daily life with a brain that's constantly trying to sabotage you is a fucking nightmare, so we're not weak at all, and maybe we're not that broken either, it's just that what surrounds us is often too...rigid? Is this the right word? Not adaptable? I don't know. And now i gotta feed the cat or that gremlin's gonna eat me for dinner, also sorry for any mistake but English ain't my first language.

Joe Gilgun really explain BPD well. I suffer from it. You never feel like a whole person or a person worthy of love. We seem so eccentric and fun but theres a gory battle happening in our head. Thanks Joe. Good job repin the BPD folk.

Speaking as somebody with BPD who has a mum with BPD and also a sister with BPD for years I've been searching to find somebody who would understand me I gave up hope and then boom JOE GILGUN!!!! If I had a way to say thank you to you I would. I've always wanted to be an actor but thought there's no way as I can be so anti social but after watching you I've actually enrolled in uni.....all thanks to you. You're a very remarkable human being thank you so much for being so vulnerable and honest x

Love Joe Gilgun, great interview. I did that same exercise as you during Scottish First Aid For Mental Health training with a hearing voices network charity and it was truly unnerving, really gives you an insight into how much of a mind f**k it must be to hear voices whilst going about your day to day life. So hard to concentrate. The girl who was sat in front of me made it worse as when I put my hand to my ear when the guy was twittering things to me and said “ohmygod” she gave me a weird look and went “what are you doing?” - awful experience even though it wasn’t real, great way to educate about it though!!
