      yes they really tried to make nearly every character true to life, even down to accents and hairstyles all apart from Anne Maries husband who for some unknown reason they made black. I suppose it might be seen as wrong to have an all white cast even though all the real life ppl were white??? its puzzling

    Astonishing performance by irish actor Eanna Hardwicke as Ben Field. Apart from the psychopathy of Field, he captures the superficial tweeness of that part of middle england perfectly. You would never know he was actually Irish.

      I followed this case at the time. This drama moves quite fast and parts of it are inaccurate or missing, but I did read that some of the most distressing features of his crimes were deliberately omitted and it was watered down. And that is totally fair. It's also only four parts, if you extended it to maybe five or six then it would feel too slow.
      There was a lot about Anne's ordeal which was missed, particularly him stealing her pension fund, giving her the hand clicker, his "sex machine" designed to try and give her a heart attack etc.

    • @charliekane135
      @charliekane135 Рік тому

      @@halfbakedproductions7887 I knew the case pretty well too. I was only on the first episode when I wrote that.
      The court case in Ep 4 was a shambles. They exhumed his body, the pathologist mentioned hair and stomach contents then that was the last it was mentioned. No forensic content at all.
      There was also no mention in court of the hideously cruel videos that Field took of Farquhar drugged and delirious. As you say he was also found guilty of defrauding that poor woman ....... nothing.
      Very poor ending to a decent drama

    • @pobstrel
      @pobstrel Рік тому +1

      @@charliekane135 There was a scene that was bizarre. Where the forensic pathologist was asking the detective what they were looking for so he could send off the samples to be tested. That the detective didn't know was just staggering if that was true to life. You'd have thought that testing for any form of medication would have been the first suggestion .

      ermm im not sure all the actors were great or true to life. Look at the wonderful job they did with Anne Marie, they were so pedantic about getting her true to life, her hairstyle and hair colour was spot on which confuses me why they made her husband black? Every actor was cast to match the real life people except the husband, its so puzzling why they would put Anne marie in a mixed relationship when her husband is white. I dont understand why they would do that.

    If you've seen Channel 4's "Catching A Killer" documentary which was a fly-on-the-wall for the _real_ police investigation, you'll recognise some of the establishing shots this show uses.
    The scene with Mark Glover roaring to work on his bike and ruffling his hair... was indeed in the documentary. Some of the camera angles and dialogue used by/for Ben in the police station after his arrest were also virtually identical.
    And when he keeps saying "of course" in Episode One, that's because he was heard using that line in some of the videos he took of Peter in real life. Those were released following his conviction.

    3 episodes in and I realise that this is a show that needs to be seen. It is safe to say this is far from an easy watch (especially when you realised that this REALLY happened) but the thing is it is a superb drama showing essentially a cautionary tale on why this should not happen ever again. Eanna is phenomenal as Ben Fields (at times when I listen to him there are moments when I wonder if he is an actor as his performance is so transformative) but the rest of the cast is phenomenal.
    I honestly will say people better pay attention to this one - I am dead set this show will be nominated for a few awards.

  • @katashley1031
    @katashley1031 11 місяців тому +1

    Well done but so hard to watch. There are more people like Ben out there, and frankly he should no longer be alive either. Instead, taxpayers get to pay for his room, board and care for the rest of the life he's living but doesn't deserve. Maddening.
    But this is very well written and the cast is perfect. I hope it helps to bring awareness and compassion to the issue of elder abuse. There are other Ben Fields out there. Look after your elders. Always. This honors Peter and Anne quite well.

Why does the bbc insist on pushing mixed race couples even when thats not the case?
