I think sometimes, work is fun for some people and when you derive that much satisfaction from feeling like you've done a good day's work, it does give you happiness. Don't be hard on yourself, just enjoy every moment, whether it's relaxation or work, if you are deriving pleasure from it, it's right for you :)

Yes I agree Huub, being in the moment without being concerned about the next moment is the way life is to be lived, glad the 'programming' of 'competition' and 'should be doing' is beginning to fall away for you💖
Sending Love, Light and Joy in all you do

Yes, considering all the hassles of the authentic Jamaican experience one can understand why you feel slightly bewildered to be cruising one of the best areas in the world for cruising. The Exumas in particular are beautiful.

It's all about staying present in the journey. In the present, it's important to *balance* creativity/work, connecting with others, having exciting experiences, and most importantly to help others when you're able. To freely live as we want, we first have to learn to let go of all the bs false beliefs that we were taught growing up. Hope you have lots of fun and love in the Bahamas Huub! 💙

The Bahamas is the best island chain on the planet, having circumnavigated once I think you will catch enough fish to offset the permit's cost. We are presently cruising the Berry Islands in the north Bahamas.

I'm not a sailor yet however I've ridden my Harley with my buddies all over the USA and the first thing I realized is that the destination was fun but the real enjoyment came from the journey.. there's no feeling like the sun at your back and your knees in the breeze..

I guess the point of us watching you do what you do is a lot of us want to be there with you living your life! We want that relaxation that goes with being on those incredible islands. You need to find a chill spot and stay there for the whole summer (hurricane season) and totally relax! Don’t do anything! Except of course to make these videos! LOL!

    Absolutely Wonderful HUUB !
Very Glad to see you happy with your travels !
PLEASE DO KNOW HUUB ; I have talked to a few of those container ship boats & have asked them specifically what they do if they are inline with a sailboat , they all replied the same ; " We run over it " . I asked if they recourse or diverted and they all said " No " , I asked why , they all said " We are so big of a boat that we can't reroute , it would take to long and throw us to far off course ." ..
I asked these questions a while back because of your troubles with your auto-pilot & auto-pilot problems .
There's A LOT of those cargo container ships on TIKTOK LIVE & is where I spoke to a few of them , they're nice guys but they will definately , 100% stay course & will admittedly destroy a boat such as yours .
There's famous actors that live at the Bahamas .
This place is very beautiful .
I hope you have an alarm for those big ships getting to close .
You be careful & enjoy your hammock time .

Very good trick for cleaning brass props, use CLR. You dive down with a bread bag, pour the CLR in the bag holding it tight to the neck. The CLR is heavier than water so it will fill the bag and displace the saltwater. It's completely non-toxic, but you should be able to do this with almost no spills, despite being underwater. The best trick is when you're going to be moored for a few days, dive down and tie the bag around the prop on the first day. It will be almost completely clean within 24 hours. If you can, leave it for at least 48 to 72 hours. I don't know the chemistry behind it, I only discovered it by trial and error, but it seems to leave the surface less prone to Future barnacles. There's also a product that is a spray, very cheap, works awesome but it has to be on land. It's designed as a anti mildew spray, it's made by zep, and you will see advertising that it is made from crab shells. I presume this makes it safe for a marine environment. Stuff works incredible! But you have to work on land

Having fun. heh something that will help is water gear. The reef's in the bahamas are amazing, as well as having a lot of sunken things to explore. Sunken statues, boats, caves, reefs etc... Fishing gear, I dont know what you have on hand. But its a good time to get into lobster hunting when in season "per location" and spear fishing, pole fishing. Free food from the sea is always a good thing to have. Your in Mahe-mahe and RED SNAPPER HEVEN between the Bahamas and the florida keys. As to feeling like your always working, see to one of my last message. Also just a heads up, dont leave the Bahamas with out checking out, they have heafty fines for doing so.

Well that's fascinating! The food prices are shockingly low. I suppose inflation has not quite caught up in the Bahamas? Those prices are lower than suburban Seattle! I spent a great deal of time in the Bahamas about 20 years ago, at that time food was typically three or four times the price of mainland. The one exception was locally grown fruit.

  • @jpsimon206
    @jpsimon206 2 роки тому

There is a special type of scope, you can find very cheap ones at marine stores, it's called a distancing telescope. It shows the image doubled and magnified. You stay looking through it for a count of 15. If the images start to overlap, the ship is moving towards you. If the images separate further, it is moving away from you. You can find $10 versions of these, I think they're a very valuable thing to have on board. It's not just about ships, floating logs, all kinds of flotsam. Most useful, should you lose radios and compass, it can be used for very rough navigation; if you happen to be within a view of land, it helps to work out your speed in regards to the tides.

  • @jpsimon206

I don't know if you took my advice or if there is less petrol on the foredeck, whatever change you made was for the good. At 9:04 you get a real good sense of her gait. I know you disagreed, but she was by the head. Plunging the forefoot on every rise. But now you're going downwind, and she is sailing easy. Take careful note of the water line. Either make a permanent mark or take multiple measurements. Also port to starboard. It's a quick and dirty method for getting your ballast somewhat better situated. You would know better, but to my eye she is sailing much better than ever before. Hard to tell from the shot, perhaps you're running with no head sails? What is the story on your jib by the way? Do you only have the one? I've seen you with a very stiff storm jib, an Alberg in the Caribbean should be wearing a Genoa 90% of the time, no? I know funds are tight, you might want to investigate swapping sails. If your sails are decent quality, it's not unheard of to do a straight trade for a larger headsail with a few more years on it

Glad you got to the downwind sailing areas! Life on the water is good in the Bahamas but you absolutely must not be there for June through Nov!!! The county is poor and certainly is in need of help for alternative energy etc so your money is going to get some milage there.... by staying on the hook.
Restored the name of your vessel and making new friends.... the beagle is adorable! All is well and enjoyable once you find a way to pass the time.... between 15 minute snoozes.

It was funny when you started talking about relaxing. Two or three minutes into the video I was thinking you are one of the hardest working guys on UA-cam. It seems like you’ve had some really tough challenges in the past. I was hoping you’d have some down time to relax and enjoy yourself…then you start talking about not being able to relax. I think if you embrace the challenges, like you have, you will feel fulfilled/accomplishment in later years. I mean why not, you’ve been around the world once already. Keep doing what you’re doing. Oh no Huub, I wasn't responding to you. It was another poster here that was being a bit testy (for no good reason). - That said... Do you have the Explorer Charts for the Bahamas? If not, I'd like to donate that to you. They are hands down the best for Bahamas navigation, way better than Navionics. I just got back from Staniel yesterday, after comparing Navionics to Explorer Charts for 8 days, there's no way I'd travel The Bahamas without them!

I just want to address everyone watching, if like us you cant afford to contribute to Huub’s patreon then what you can do is “not skip the ads” they are not on for long and it can be your contribution to help fund this channel. If everyone who watches did this it would be a massive help to Huub.

Whilst it's awesome that you're getting out there and doing things, your approach froma safety aspect is frankly, f**king terrifying, your approach to sleep, the lack of VHF, how you communicate your position to passing cargo. You seem to encounter issue after issue with the boat systems. I would strongly suggest that you get yourself on the hard, get a proper refit done and install a radar system to address your 20 minute sleep issue as well as your general safety, by setting guard zones. You can quite easily turn that routine into 3 hour periods if you aren't coastal. You're out of step with some really important aspects of modern sailing and whilst you can operate on older methods it's like leeches vs medicine. Spend the money.
Living the life you want should not come at the expense of the people you share the seas with and I have serious issues with some of the attitudes you display and impart to the people who follow you. You've made some questionable choices in some of your videos and if someone who doesn't know any better follows suit and it goes badly, that'll be on you. You're promoting a way of life and if you influence someone enough that they want to do this too, you're doing a them disservice.
Thousands of people a year die at sea. Tens of thousands have to be rescued each year. Don't be part of the problem. You're doing good things with your life, don't tarnish it with poor admin.
