The Orb weaver spider was very cool to see! We have wolf spiders in our area too, and wow can they get big (well, for spiders). _I who have never known men_ sounds like an interesting read - I like books that make you look deep and ask existential questions. I miss summer too :)
Thanks Fred! The web was huge, I couldn't believe it! Oh yes, those wolf spiders are so cool, especially if you get to see a female carrying her babies on her back. I just prefer them outside, rather than inside. ;) Yes, I was thinking about that book for days. The writing was a little strange (maybe it was just the translation), but the overall story blew my mind. I'm glad I'm not the only one who misses summer, but at least we were treated to some warmer weather earlier this week. :D
I Who Have Never Known Men sounds intriguing. I was thinking the title might be a reference to the passage in Luke's Gospel where Mary is told she will be the mother of the Messiah, but I'm not really seeing how that would jive with the description you give. Interesting. Loved all the nature video. And that talk about the 70s and 80s has me feeling nostalgic for wood paneling, shag carpet, and ugly green couches reeking of cigarette smoke. 😂 Thanks for the video, and have a nice weekend.
Thanks, Bryan! Oh, interesting to note about the Gospel passage and the title. The book was so thought-provoking for me, I was thinking about it for days and days. I've heard it described as "bleak, but fascinating" and that's exactly true. Ah yes, all of the 70s/80s home decor is so nostalgic to me too! Back when people used to smoke indoors - gag! :P Thanks so much for watching and I'm glad you enjoyed the video :)
Didn't know what a wolf spider looked like and googled it. 😳 We had daddy long legs in the basement where I used to live. I found it quite surprising that they were always at a 3 feet distance from one another along a wall, as if they used a tape to measure. Didn't mind them though. Thanks for all the nature, books and aurora borealis content. 🌌 Have a great weekend !
Daddy long legs are my favorite spiders! I never had a fear of them and we always played with them growing up and let them crawl on us, haha. So weird about the 3 feet apart thing! Thanks so much for watching, Martine! :)
Watching these vlogs always puts me in a better mood. I just watched this one twice in a row! What’s not to like: TJ Klune, an orb weaver, and an aurora?! Amazing work, as always. Thanks for sharing. Clark and Mary are adorable, btw!
Thank you so much, Ellis!! I'm so glad you enjoyed this one. I felt like I was talking so much, haha. It was a great few weeks of reading and always fun to find new critters to show you guys ;) Thank you again :D
Well, I was listening to this on my way to my blood donation this morning, but since you were referencing the lights, flowers, and spiders I had to watch rather than listen (it is a vlog after all). I think October is the perfect time to read Something Wicked That Way Went or This Way Comes. I've heard it both ways. In The Lives of Puppets sounds good. I'm reading the comic Fables, and there is a subplot with Pinocchio missing his father which is really good. I've got a general rule with spiders. You don't bug me and I leave you to your business. Let's keep things copacetic.
Spoiler alert - I really loved Something Wicked This Way Comes! It was so good. That will be in the next vlog, haha. And I agree, it was the perfect time to read it, just before Halloween. Wow, a comic with Pinocchio elements sounds very cool. I'm the same way with spiders - double bonus if they are outside, rather than inside. I can't even tell you how many I've transplanted back outside, lol. Thanks so much for watching!!
I'm reading 'Cold Kitchen' by Caroline Eden, which is very good, lots of food descriptions and part travelogue. It makes me want to sit out and share food and experience the places she's describing. I love your nature videos, I've yet to see the Northern Lights.
Thank you, Clare! 'Cold Kitchen" sounds really nice; I haven't read many travelogue types of books in so long, I should really pick one up! I hope you can experience the Northern Lights some day; it's such a beautiful experinece :)
Happy reading! I struggled with Puppets. I didn’t love the dynamic with the robots. I’m a huge Kline fan, so I was a bit disappointed with it. Never Known Men is really a strange book, but it is thought provoking. I found myself thinking about it days after. It’s hard to have no clear conclusion on what happened, but I like that it didn’t spoonfeed a specific message. We got the solar storm here in Las Vegas for one night! Just a tiny bit of pink and purple. Kitties! ❤Sounds like an overall good bit of reading!
I can see what you mean about the dynamics in Puppets. It's only my 2nd TJ Klune so far, but hoping to read more from him soon, especially that sequel to the Cerulean Sea that just came out. Yes, for Never Known Men, that unclear conclusion, no explanations for anything, and sensory deprivation was so uncomfortable in that book and by the end I was just like "woah", lol. That's great that you guys got to see part of the Northern Lights too! I guess we're just in a cycle of intense solar activity lately, which is making them more common. Thanks so mudh for watching!
I Who Have Never Known Men is my number 1 read of the year so far, one of my all time favourites now. Have you ever read Children of Time? In that book the spiders are the good guys, it helped me like spiders more 😂
It was so good. So bleak, so heart-breaking, so many unanswered questions! I really liked it too. I really want to read it again, or at least listen to it via audio the 2nd time. I've heard Dave and Olive talking about Children of Time. Friendly spiders sounds awesome - I'll have to put it on the list! :D
I have to it get to In the Lives of Puppets soon, may have to be part of my challenge. I have a massive orb weaver like that on my outside window, they fascinates me despite the fact I am mildly arachnophobic. Great vlog as usual,
@@vens_corner thanks Ve! I’d be interested o. Hearing your thoughts about In the Lives of Puppets. It was good, but definitely not perfect. That’s funny that you have an Orb Weaver friend too 😆.
@bookstalgic tbf I have a few outside now, the one near the kitchen is one of the biggest ones I have ever seen. Definitely will get to at least one of my T.J Klune books during my challenge . Cheers for stopping in ❤️
@ I definitely want to read more TJ Klune, too, especially that sequel that just came out after The House by the Cerulean Sea. Hope you have a nice day, Ven!
Your cats snoozing in the sun on the windowsill are so adorable 🥰 I Who Have Never Known Men has been on my TBR for too long - I must get to it soon!

We got to see the Northern Lights as well! In Maine 😲 I’d never seen them before either.

Your pictures of the Northern Lights are amazing!
Thanks Melinda! Such a difference from the naked eye to what the camera actually picks up!

So crazy to see the Northern Lights here in NY! My mom and I didn't even know what it was at first 🤣
@@krisreviews I know! When I was outside, I could hear my neighbors yelling, they were so excited to see the colors in the sky!

@bookstalgic I think that's another one I have, that might be the physical one I have actually 🤔(goes to check shelves)
Is "In the Lives of Puppets" young adult? The cover looks amazing and the idea sounds interesting but if it's YA I might not be all that interested.
No, it’s considered an adult novel, but one of the main characters is 21. It had some adult humor lol.
@@bookstalgic 🤔 I'm more interested now that I know it isn't YA. Thank you.
