It’s really funny to consider how the hunt for the dragon balls arc put a huge dampener on the typical threat escalation of the series by turning Goku into a kid and giving him seemingly Namek saga level at best opponents to dunk on.
Then suddenly the switch is flipped and GT snaps back into the power creep formula of DBZ…with Goku as a kid in base form fighting a supposedly Buu level threat…
@@welshlout3400 yeah. And with none of the stuff Toriyama did to actually try to keep perspective. Like it started creeping on Namek but even through Cell he was pretty decent about giving us a baseline and who’s stronger than who. GT has absolutely none of that
@@KazeAizen Exactly. If they had any level of foresight they ought to have done the groundwork from the outset, just in case. Tell us at least about how strong the main cast is (Goku, Pan, Trunks) relative to the levels of DBZ. Cos now apparently we now need to reassess Ledgic, Luud and all of the pathetic comedy relief villains as having beyond Perfect Cell levels of strength to make it make sense

To be fair, a much weaker character getting a hit on a much stronger villain isn't unusual in Dragon Ball. Tenshinhan got hits on both Boo and Cell, Krillin got Freeza's tail, Piccolo kicked Final Form Freeza, etc.

Two very different reasons
The dub actually did pan's "Girls get stronger when they cry" better by making it about actual anger over Giru's betrayal.
You know what would have been awesome is if pan delivered the "Girls get stronger when they cry" and then follow that up with her Super Saiyan transformation.

Rildo's society is a meritocracy, it's just one that cuts just as sharply in both directions. If you're good at your job and do things right, you're showered with rewards because you earned it. If you can't keep up, society doesn't just leave you behind, it feeds you to the wolves because you've shown yourself to be inadequate for society's standards.
By the end, Lani's Rild voice is just the Macho Man.

I'm glad Lani also appreciates Goku's funny pain noises. My favourite part about the sub over the dub is how Nozawa does Goku's pain grunts and little "stubbed toe ouchie" sounds when he gets hit.

I think a lot about how the desert episode has Pan finally learn to trust Giru, only to _immediately_ be betrayed. Honestly proud of her for ever trusting again.

Yeah, when I was a kid I'd get so mad the emotions would spill over, and that was when I was most likely to clock a fool. On more than one occasion I punched a group of bullies into leaving me alone while bawling the whole time. Which I suspect may have had more to do with them leaving me alone that the punching in hindsight. I don't really know how I'd respond to someone punching me while crying.
I have acquired this phrase and will incorporate it into my vocabulary, thank you.

I mean it's not that hard to believe. Goku has had 15 years of training since the buu saga. So the fact that he doesn't have too much trouble makes a lot of sense since Goku constantly works to get stronger.

I know it’s strange to have the robot Rilldo be stronger than Majin Buu, but…Dr. Hedo apparently created 2 superhero robots that are able to keep up with Post-TOP Gohan. It’s not great, but at least Rilldo is an all-around decent villain.
Between this and Gero building cyborgs and androids stronger than super saiyans, I think we have to accept that the mechanical fighter race is on, and sky's the limit as far as engineers are concerned.

I mean when you think about it... IRL the output capacity of powerful machines is far beyond human strength levels. So it kind of makes sense that in a world where the strength capacity of a human is millions of times what it is in IRL that it would be possible to make machines that dwarf a super saiyan.

Man there were _several_ times throughout DragonBall, Z, and GT that Masako Nozawa did that scream. Maybe that was like her version of Lani just randomly screaming something as Piccolo.
Maybe it's like the Barney Burp from The Simpsons where his voice actor recorded a burp into the mic and the voice director just kept reusing that recording every time the character did it

Rildo is interesting to me because we literally had a guy even more powerful than Majin Buu just built and hanging around.
I mean, a guy on Earth built robots far stronger than Freeza, the "strongest in the universe," so it's not the craziest thing.
Even excluding 17, 18, Gero, and Cell, for not being fully mechanical, 19 and 16 both fit the bill.

My take-away is that Goku is just abridged Nappa in this series. Never takes anything seriously and is basically a child with lots of strength.

When I watched GT in its entirety a few weeks ago in preparation for this commentary series there was a scene with Super Mega Cannon Sigma shooting his beams that I'm convinced that the Simpsons took inspiration from for the episode where the whole family visits Japan, and where a robot on the TV with seizure inducing eye flashes. If it's not then both are pulling from an earlier source. Regardless, it was uncanny.

Boys get stronger when they cry. It's one of my favourite shots in all of DBZ, when Gohan achieves Super Saiyan 2, and his tears slowly evaporate. Always gives me shivers. I should expect the same is true for his daughter here in GT, but they pitch it like a gag.

I hate that if you change one word in Pans "crying" line, it could've immediately been a really insightful, meaningful, and heartfelt line. One I'd believe she'd reasonably have learned from her father as part Saiyan, yet still human.

I'm just going to say... the number of people who are missing a limb after posing or approaching an alligator is much higher than you would think. It's easy to look back in retrospect and make a judgment call to maybe not do that. 😀
I just now thought of something crazy that might explain why pan never transforms.
What if shes actually been capable of mystic this whole time and learned it from her dad? It actually explains a lot like how she would be even this strong at this age compared to the others.
I mean to even budge some one stronger than buu in what looks like base is pretty insane. She moved him arguably more than vegeta moved perfect cell when she hit him.
She moved General Dildo because he let her, to gauge what she could do. When she punches him a few minutes later it barely makes his face budge.
Like that is a logical thought as in Z Ultimate was just a state of Being that one can supress like they can Base, until Later In GT Gohan can just stack SSJ on that
