Pennsylvania Motorcycle License Test How To Pass

- Just wanted to show what exactly is involved in the PA motorcycle license test. Also forgot to mention they check your inspection lights and horn are working before starting the test.
I found the real trick for that figure 8 is to get a little more speed so you can lean a little more and counter balance the bike.
Actually 5mh is plenty enough speed.

I had a permit 10 yrs ago and rode for 3 yrs, got pulled over 4x at least - never asked about a permit or class M license once. Sold the bike.. Just bought a new bike, rode off my drive way and the cops busted my ass, now I have tickets coming in the mail.

About one year ago, I got my permit and searched up endless things online to prepare as much as I could for my test…winter hit so I had to wait, but I just went ahead and passed my test with flying colors today! Both the figure 8 and the slalom were most certainly difficult, I have to admit. Seeing me riding a 96 Honda Shadow, my instructor actually gave me a “slightly bigger box” than the regular one used for figure 8’s. I just thought I’d throw that in there for anyone else taking their test on a relatively larger bike!

Permit expires 3 months after you get it. Did you have to renew it?
LMAO was wondering if the Greensburg DMV has those markers as I don't remember seeing a box. Completely forgot they turned that thrift shop into a DMV. Now I know exactly where to go practice. Thanks!
The test in Oklahoma is waaaay different. They clip a radio to your chest and they follow you driving around neighborhoods giving you directions.

I only had to do the figure 8's and the cone weave (he put out 5 cones), no shifting and stopping on a line. I wonder if that was because it was raining?
Either way, FINALLY after 2yrs on a permit I'm official!

This is cool my brother. We always had dirt bikes as a kid. I had to sell all my bikes to get my first car. That was 35 years ago! I'm 55 now and just bought a 1995 klr250 dual sport to take camping and fishing up in the mountains. Never had a license and just got my permit.

Just for everyone to know for the Jeanette dmv. It’s always the small solid white box. The bigger boxes are for trikes

That’s such a short test it’s surprised me. Once I pay off my 3 year loan on my car I’m planning to get my permit then a license and probably a bike soon after. Hopefully it all works out!

It’s really about slipping the clutch dragging ur rear break just went and practiced for four hours I did it and feel confident I test Thursday so will see what happens. If u put ur foot down once it’s a fail or more than once
I passed first try I wasn’t able to take it when I made this message my registration was expired so after 3 permits I’m licensed 😂😂 thanks for the vids

Isn't it odd the first thing they have you do is something that has precisely zero to do with operating a vehicle on the public motorways? Anytime I went and drove figure 8's anywhere it was asking for a "YOU DAMN KIDS!" moment.
I've heard different things about being 18 or older in regards of just the permit. What is like the rules of it being 18 for a permit?

I’m not sure I would assume they would let you do the big box but I cannot guarantee it.

Hey man im taking my test in a month and am wondering if they do a visual inspection of your bike. My rear tires low on tread and dont know if i should get it changed before i go. Thanks
I know they check reg, inspection, and insurance. I’m not sure but I’d recommend getting a new tire before taking the test just in case.
Does anyone know if you have to be fully suited up to take the test? Ngl I ride without pants, jacket and gloves and I don’t feel like buying them just to take a stupid 3 minute test

No but you have to be 18 or older and do 65 hours before you're skills test. Otherwise you can schedule the skills test right after the permit test

Nah you can’t, at least not in PA. I tried and I had to have my junior license in order to get a moto permit

If the scooter is over 50cc you need a motorcycle license. If you take the motorcycle safety program and pass you get a license and don’t have to take the test at the dmv

you will have to lean the bike a lot while leaving your body upright. feather the clutch and you can use the rear brake a little bit to stabilize the bike as well

No but in PA you have to have a drivers permit before you Can get a motorcycle permit you cant take the motorcycle permit test if you dont at least have a car permit they wont let you I tried
Is it like a car test where you need a certain amount of learning time or amount of time you need to have the permit?
Not sure if you still need to know but I don't believe so. I'm pretty sure you need to already have a valid driver's license (here in pa at least) to even get a motorcycle permit so the "learning" phase is already done.

It depends there’s a lot of good choices depending on how confident you feel and what type of riding you would like to do
anywhere from a 250-500 with low horsepower if you still want to ride on the street alot, if you get anything less than 250 youll get bored sooooo fast
Hey man quick question so I'm 23 I don't even have permit so I'm going soon to take the test and get my motorcycle permit. When they issue me that I can drive my bike to work right by myself. I don't need a license to drive by myself. Nor do I need to pass a driver's course correct once I get my permit I can drive by myself
Yes you can ride by yourself. You can’t have a passenger and can’t ride after dark are the stipulations

Your permit is only a question test so no actual driving, at least when I went..so I listened to the audio book of the manual while at work the day before my test and on the day of, I googled practice tests and took them until I got all the questions right 3 times in a row...whatever works you is best but that's what I did👋

Pennsylvania motorcycle permit only works in PA unfortunately.
@weston graham actually you can ride in NY but you have to be accompanied by a licensed rider

You can do it on any bike once you get the hang of it. if you’re having trouble, lean the bike a lot while keeping your body straight up. feather the clutch, rear brake, and throttle to keep your balance. check out motojitsu on youtube he has a bunch of low speed videos demonstrating
I personally wasn’t able to do in on my 650 when I took the test but now can. Counter leaning and repeated practice help alot
