Omni Man fights against Mark, his son. Omnimen beats his son half to death, knocks out his teeth. Mark loses a lot of blood and almost dies.
Invincible Episode 8: The Invincible animated superhero series created by Robert Kirkman. Its first episode was released on 26th March 2021. At 2:19 you could feel his pain , it’s the little nuances in cartoons that really bring them to life . You can tell he didn’t want to hurt his son
Yeah I love that detail too he didn’t want to hurt his son but in that moment he felt like he had no choice otherwise he would’ve been screwed himself along with the rest of his family including Debbie.
He clearly doesn’t want to fight or kill his son, but his responsibility to the viltrumite has forced him to do this.

That change of emotion showed that what Mark said gave him guilt, but he had to focus and become resolved on what he started.

I feel like Omni-Man was being genuine about wanting to help humans and loving Debby. But he’s torn between loving his family, and being loyal to Viltrum
If he wanted to truly help humans, he wouldn't have killed the original Guardians of the Globe, but then again, he felt like they wouldn't welcome Viltrum openly, so Nolan reluctantly betrayed them.

If you read the comics you quickly foundout that yes he does truly love Debbie and his son. He was just a man in a really touch spot. Of course doesn't make up for all the horrible shit he did.

He's chosen Viltrum over his son's life, and this moment is when he doubts that decision. Then he realizes there's no turning back and he has to stay on his chosen path.
1:15 and THAT'S where Nolan lost him. Mark was already freaking out, but I think Nolan MIGHT have been able to convince him, if it wasn't for saying that about Debbie.
I do like that even for as angry as Mark is, Omni-Man is still the one to throw the first punch. Mark still loves his father, however hurt and betrayed he may feel.
I think that's apart of it, but Mark also knows Omni Man is wayyy stronger than he is. So Mark was definitely cautious knowing what was about to happen, but he still fought back against Nolan being the hero he is, despite knowing he's very outmatched

Omni-Man’s argument was almost convincing. If he hadn’t killed the Guardians of the Globe and didn’t say that Deborah was like a pet to him, I think I would be convinced. Him talking about how Viltrumites age slowly, so you’ll outlive everyone you care about hundreds of times over would make me start rethinking things. And him saying they can stop wars, eliminate hunger, get highly advanced medical technology; those are objectively good things
If he had just worded how he feels about Deborah, maybe Mark would’ve been convinced. Maybe something like “I do love your mother. But I can’t get too attached because I’ll outlive her while only aging a year.” Or something along those lines. Oh, and if he hadn’t killed the Guardians of the Globe in the first place, obviously
Mark is smart enough to realize that his father's mission would mean the end of his peoples' liberty. The humans on earth would be no more than cattle, herded by their viltrumite masters while under constant threat of death. It would be generations of slavery. He intuitively knows this is wrong. His mother raised him right.
Thing is, even if he had worded it differently, the end result would've been End of Evangelion levels of hopeless.
Because for as much as he attempts to sugarcoat Viltrumite society and emphasize/make up the pros, the reality is that Viltrumite rule is absolutely destructive, opressive, disregarding and xenophobic.
Nolan is trying to paint them in a good light, because he knows if he describes the Viltrumite rule for _what it _*_really_*_ is,_ there's no way in hell Mark is gonna agree with it. Sadly for him and fortunately for everyone, he blew it when he described Deborah as a pet. _(in all senses, since he'll later come to realize that's not how he feels about her at all)_

These are pivotal lines that I don't see enough people talking about since they're overshadowed by the "500 years" part. Omni Man's true motivations are not Viltrum's mission. Now that Mark has powers, Omni Man knows Mark will mentally suffer if he genuinely cares about people. He thinks it's better for Mark to let it all go now. That's why the entire fight, Omni Man is lecturing Mark about the fragility of humans. If watching them all die hurts this much now, imagine doing it for thousands of years.
And somehow mark kept his humanity after hundreds of years. He really is invincible.

I love how incredibly nuanced this scene is. It's obvious that Nolan is very conflicted but you don't really realize it on the first watch.

Honestly, it’s hard to argue with Omni-man here. Especially after getting whooped so bad. Personally, I think the train scene would’ve broke me. At that point I’d just sided with him just so he’d stop making me kill people.
If you sided with him he would expect you to murder even more people and destroy nations and governments.

I liked that this show acknowledged that heroes like the New Guardians could not keep up with Mark and Nolan, and that they would be way outta their league to even try to help Mark.
Normally someone like Batman or Green Arrow would jump into the fight with a Metal suit and somehow stay alive for more than 10 seconds.
I checked out the comics after season 1 and it amazes me that compared to other Viltrumites, Omni man is practically tame.
The other universe where Mark joins Nolan is the one where he didnt use the pet rhetoric.

Here Omni man almost convinces Mark and makes him rethink about everything and at some point Omni man seems reasonable , if their empire truly can eliminate war and hunger and if they can live for thousands of years then you can't disagree with that ,,, but him saying Debbie is a pet and killing people ruthlessly was the moment mark decided to confront his father to defend his home and friends.

This is a deep ass line, people have said this fight is more about Omni-Man trying to convince himself that human life is meaningless than his son but this line shows that to be a certainty. Living on Earth, Nolan has had to grapple with the dissonance caused by such a short-lived species being able to make him feel such strong emotion, and now that he's seen the time has come for him to fulfill his mission he's doing everything he can to shut down those feelings and remind himself that human life is so fleeting compared to a Viltrumite's that they essentially don't matter, the one thing that's stopping him from completing his mission. He knew that Mark would ultimately feel the same way about the whole ordeal, it's why he waited until push came to shove to reveal the truth to him, laced with all the justifications that he's told himself to eliminate the pain that would come with subjugating humanity. The writing for this show is insanely complex, I don't know how they managed to one up the comics so much in every regard

Given how easily he can shred other Viltrumites' flesh like paper, he was holding back this whole fight. Other than knocking Mark's teeth out, he seems to subconsciously have just been trying to immobilize him and use psychological warfare. We heard of many timelines where Mark joined Omni-man after a fight, but none where he was killed by him.

It really is cool that you can see when Omni-man is starting to make sense to Mark, I don't think Mark would ever really agree with Nolan, but you can see when certain topics or reasonings started to make sense. Then Omni-man would bungle it with mentioning how useless or fragile humanity is, if he had framed it all as trying to help humanity, trying to save it, it may have worked. Except he kept downplaying humanity and also insulting Debbie

Man, how the tabbles would have turned if this was mature Mark vs Omni-man. Here he is the equivalent of a baby but later he becomes stronger even than Thragg. It's frightening when you know how much power Omni man has and that even that power would be surpassed by his son. And despite that Mark remained reasonable despite his power.

Theres a theory that the difference between this Mark and the other variations of Mark that joined Omni-man is that he had Debbie more present in his life and in this scene it honestly looks like Mark is starting to see where his Dad is coming from, until he mentions that Debbie was just a pet and then Mark completely snaps, just a cool little detail i noticed.
I honestly think the only difference between this timeline, and all the timelines where invincible sides with his dad, is the “pet” comment about his mum

From 0:46 to 0:55, I would’ve actually sided with Omni-Man if I was Invinicible from that moment and on.
Edit: I noticed that Mark was about to consider Omni-Man’s solution until 1:07, where he just had to screw it up.
Just that statement alone sounds justified, but then you also need to consider that Mark knows he killed the Guardians and just saw him kill one again.
Those statements on their own sound good, but Nolan's lack of humanity is apparent in his actions if not his words. The world accepts Omniman as an alien, but Nolan is not seeking a mutually beneficial alliance with humanity. Viltrumites want complete servitude from them and will enslave them if necessary. If Omniman didn't fuck up there, he would have fucked up trying to answer Mark's follow up questions. He can't reasonably justify anything he's already done; he killed the Guardians, threatened William, Killed Donald, etc.
