Lmao I'm cracking up at the thumbnail seeing Geralt using a Macbook. I'm glad CDPR is supporting these games even though they don't have to, and I hope more devs follow their lead.
Holy smokes this is absolutely huge will we get the Witcher 3 as well? It’s so nice to see so many new native gamers on Mac!🎉🎉
I hope so! The community is trying so hard to make Witcher 3 work well on the m1 macs since the m1 release… the publisher seems to hate money not porting it to mac yet. Another game in the same situation is Cyberpunk 2077
Keep up the work Andrew. Hope we get a vibrant native game library on Mac
Thanks for using the base M1 Air for benchmarking! I used to have that laptop and loved it. Although I will say, its lack of a fan makes gaming kinda tricky for prolonged sessions
One thing that's not known even to most UA-camrs covering this is that the Air M1 with 16gb of ram gets 8.6gb of video memory while the 8gb variant gets only 3.7gb. Makes a big difference in modern games. I can run shadow of the tomb raider at 900p with high and medium settings with all effects turned on and get 30fps. A base M1 would have to turn everything low to get even 30 at the same resolution
Got Witcher 1 from steam last year for my then brand new M2 Macbook Air 13'. Finally, result. Started a New Game already. 5th play-through, still loving it.
This is incredible-really loving devs for this effort. I was recently just trying to return to these two titles, great to be able to slide this onto my otherwise work machines as a suitable distraction, ha! Also-bonus points for that killer thumbnail!!!
Glad to see developers thinking of arm macs as gaming machines also ❤❤❤
Witcher 2 ran fairly well in Parallels on my M1 Air and I am so happy that performance is significantly better running natively (as expected). In Parallels I’d get a strange glitch where grass would turn black. A little sad to immediately see this face glitch and I hope they do fix it. But overall I’m thrilled this happened at all!
I think CDPR is working on full remakes of the Witcher 1/2, I would guess that this is them kind of trying out developing for modern Macs, hopefully a sign that they will be developing their upcoming games for Mac as well.
1:15 it works terrible bcuz ultra preset has ubersampling enabled. caught me of guard once
Upcoming Cyberpunk 2077 release 👀
Considering how well it runs via GPTK I wouldn't be surprised if they released it on mac!
NGL, that’d be cool.
Было бы круто. Я через кроссовер 23.5 получаю в игре в низкой графике 50-54 кадров в игре киберпанк MBP m2 max 38gpu. Думаю если сделают портировку то получу на m2 max более 100-120 кадров в низких настройках
@@sjsshsu With M2 max and MetalFX upscaling, it will do 100fps in medium - high graphics, when optimised, these arm chips are insanely powerful
Amazing! I bought these two earlier this year but hadn't had a chance to play them and now that I switched to Mac two months ago, I tried to play them from GOG but they kept crashing until yesterday's update 😄
Very nice! Hope they improve it further and release The Witcher 3 as well.
I just played the intro basically and sadly it will crash repeatedly at the castle cut scene after taking the thunder potion where your supposed to go down the stairs with the other guy. Although, it is a cool attempt they tried and hopefully will patch, if not, it was still cool to play it a bit on the M1 Max. I haven't tested part 2 yet, will see how that goes. I never could get part 1 to work on Parallels, but nearly finished it on the PC some time back, so no stress. Thanks for pointing it out Andrew.
Same
I think it’s a smart more to increase the amount of platforms your games can run on. Especially if you can have them on a portable solution. Maybe future AppleTv and Macs devices will run AAA games just as good as PC. Great job by the devs.
they already Can run them very well, the problem is that devs refuse to port
Thanks for the video, I would try on mac mini m1, what are the program did you use for show the temperature of the cpu?
maybe the witcher 3 is next and the cyberpunk
my prediction is CD projekt red saw the popularity of Cyberpunk on mac with GPTK, and now will start porting all their games over... Hopefully
These two games were likely the easiest/least resource intensive ones to port so CDPR is throwing them out there to see how the public responds. If there's a reasonable uptick in players on macOS, then we'll likely see the rest of their titles make their way over. These aren't my kinds of games, yet I'm still tempted to buy them to show that I support these moves.
can you do a recommendation for a m3 macbook (with customize specs) purchase for gaming (port/switch/native) on mac please?
Witcher 1 is coming up on being 17 years old! Its getting ready to go to college. All well and good, but we need the native port of Cyberpunk 2077. It runs so well on Crossover+GPTK so it should be an easy port for Elverils to do. So many mac gamers would buy it.
Great to see, these are still amazing games.
Is anybody experiencing probelms with Witcher 1, (playing on mac book air 2020 M1, 8 RAM) always running into crashes when entering the basement for reconnaissance with Leo during the prologue, movement stutters and feels choppy, camera sometimes spin randomly and I can turn around fully if I am moving.
It seems after the latest OS update the steam FPS overlay has stopped working. Any workarounds?
Great news, I suspect they are doing this as a way to test the market response before doing Witcher 3
Witcher 3 runs really well through Crossover. I'm running it on my M2 Macbook Pro 16GB ram at Ultra+ settings and it looks stunning. Just gone on sale on Steam, and it's a steal if you haven't got it.
Man, I bought this game months ago on sale, and was really disheartened to find it couldn’t run, so I returned it. It would have been really nice if they gave a heads up that this was going to be made native.
Its on sale again
This is a good indicator, the more games goes to mac, the better, it seems that 3d devs are more interested since the m3 chips are finally a real gaming machine with raytracing, I just hope that they also make fully native UE5 , because a lot of games uses Unreal engine, and if the app is fully native and support raytracing, that would be a full indicator that macs is worthy. In any case, this is a good indicator as I said. Best
UE5 has been native for Apple Silicon since version 5.2, it even supports nanite for m2 and m3 family. They say expect future updates for lumen in m3 family chips since m3 family is the only chips that supports hardware ray tracing.
@@yudhatand285 I guess I misinterpreted, I wanted to say optimized, because is not at all, and most of the plugins don't work like in windows version, and yeah, I hope so that they now allows more plugins and stuff like that, because I just don't like windows, but I have to use it with my gaming pc for unreal engine, but If I could run everything decently on my m3 max, I wouldn't never ever go back to windows again. Best
What has held back devs is never power. Macs have had the power to game for a while now, just because the M3 has RT and mesh shading doesn't really mean anything for the average developer. It's not really an indicator of anything other than some developers are interested in getting a bit of money from Apple users
🤦♂️ Ray tracing in games is the most useless thing ever made.
The Witcher 2 face glitch on Apple Silicon is fixed! I just noticed the update queued in Steam, installed it, and ran the game on my M1 MacBook Air. No more NPC face glitch! Woohoo!
I don't know if the Witcher 1 crash is fixed or not, someone else could check and report back.
That's great news! Finally I could proceed my journey in Witcher 1😃
hope Big AAA games like Elden ring , RDR2, Alan wake 2, Cyberpunk, and Hogwarts get native ports too! ,Older games like Witcher 3 and Dark souls Trilogy would be awesome aswell.
Good. Witcher 2 in CX has audio bugs.
Are those installable on an external SSD? Affordable Macs tend to be spartan in terms of built-in storage.
Can confirm
Waiting for Stray, I haven’t imagined that being promised on an Apple event right?
A native version of Stray is coming
can I use dualsense for this game?
That is nice but at the same time it very sad and unfortunate that there is no official Witcher 3 mac port.
Once you explain the entire process, you can tell how to play GTA 5 on MacBook Pro M1 using game porting tool or any other method
Cyberpunk 2077 is all I need on my macbook. Love this game, but I don't have time to play on xbox at home. Hope I can play on macbook in office some day.
As a 7,1 owner who spends most of his time in Bootcamp, i wonder how well they would play in the 7,1 Mac OS?
I mean they're universal binary and open GL so it sounds like they'll run on any Mac that has a new enough version of macos, but I wouldn't expect good performance based on how the M1 did
It's time to play some Witcher! I installed 1 and second part with parallel and it was also playable on M1 Pro chip but I think its better to play natively so CDPR will see that Mac gamers exists :)
Unexpected!!
I have Witcher 1 and 2 on Steam. Will this work natively on M1 Mac?
yes
Great news!
Any game getting Apple Silicon native is a win! Just slightly disapointed with all the API's and Porting toolkits that apple is bringing, they still didn't implement Metal support fully on it.
Hopefully people will buy.
Later: Put my money down and bought all three. On sale on 23 Nov for $15 USD for all three games. I think they used 1 and 2 as training vehicles to get their teams up to speed on coding for MacOS and figured if they made any money from it that it was just gravy.
I really hope destiny 2 could make it into mac gaming
Do I buy this right from the Apple Store? Or should I use something else. Someone please help me
Use Steam, see this tutorial: ua-cam.com/video/iRxIsUlQYkw/v-deo.html
Nice. But guyes. HAs anyone made any serious test of Game mode on Sonoma. I can not seen any relevant video that would show real difference/effect.
❤
I feel like they didn't properly test the game before the release. You they didn't notice flickering heads in Witcher 2. The performance also isn't that great (M2 MBA - it drops quite a lot on medium settings).
Also its pretty misleading marketing on CDPR's side saying it's native yet it uses deprecated OpenGL.
Even though the combat system looks absolutely terrible today in The Witcher 1, if you give it a chance you realise that game mechanics were the closest to the book series. Hardest difficulty made you actually prepare for a fight with oils and alchemy potions ending up intoxicated as hell just like in the book series. Also game of dice instead of Gwent felt more natural and canon
I dont understand why that happens.Witcher 3 works great with Crossover on M1 Max. This Port no one need it or want it. But extrem Prices on App Store lol
What? 😮
wew
Witcher 2 still looks fantastic
I’ve weird feeling. GTA 6 would also have a native ARM version.
I hope so, that would be insane for mac gaming in general, especially since devices are definitely capable for it
I guess it's the ubersampling settings. It needs to be disabled. Even modern GPUs struggle with that settings enabled.
Please deactivate SSAO (same issue with alien), performance is really good on my M1 8GB in 1920x1200 ! Witcher2 looks really good!
I believe it's ubersampling that gives you such a bad performance, I remember it was that feature that destroys even modern GPUs on PC
These games are coming to iphone !!!
There are no Apple ARM OpeNGL drivers so it would be highly unlikely they are using OpenGL in the Apple Silicon Versions of these games.
OpenGL 4.1 runs on the Apple Silicon lineup. It remains "deprecated" (will never be updated to newer OpenGL) but it's still there and working.
Next, bring me a macbook.
Andrew, get a laptop cooling pad for the MacBook Air and see if it still throttles. It doesn’t and it makes the gaming experience much better. Make a video about it. Cooling fans solve the problem.
I had been wondering about this.
great but all good things are THREE ;)
can i have native GTA5?
Intel is just 32% of mac in steam!
What's next? Witcher 3.
Valve really does annoy me with their approach to Mac. They are an extremely successful company but they refuse to update any of their classic games to Arm. Let alone just making them 64-bit running under Rosetta. But yet here we have CD Projekt Red porting Witcher 1 and 2 and a bunch of other much smaller indie developers making Mac versions of their games playable on Apple silicon.
They won't do it because it's not financially worth it. Just because they're successful doesn't mean it's financially viable to make a port to ARM
@@crestofhonor2349 I know what Valve said, but I don’t believe that’s the truth. If it’s true, why did they make a native Linux version of Counter-Strike 2 and not a Mac version? The Linux market share is less than Mac’s.
And why are other developers like CD Projekt Red and many indie developers making, or even updating old games that are unlikely to sell as quickly as copies of Half-Life, Portal etc.
Valve does not make the Witcher games.
@@evacody1249 Yeah I know, that’s why I mentioned CD Projekt Red in each of my comments here.
Toss a coin to your MacBook!
As long as you cannot play the newest (lets say) Call of Duty day 1 on a mac with native reso. 120FPS+ this platform cannot be called anything close to gaming. I am sorry this is just so sweaty that it gets 10+ years old games somewhat playable. The work in that is just pure wasted.
AI thumbnails are pretty lame
After the quality of the last few videos I’m astonished your benchmark was an M1 Air base. Not useful. You picked the worst conceivable platform and had complaints. Surprise! If you were gonna do M1 Air it makes more sense as a comparison to M1 Pro or Max
