Great Video. Not sure about trying it. Seems like a feces fountain waiting to happen. I think I will let this marinate with time. Please do a follow-up video in 6 months or so and let us know if your are still as enthusiastic. You are a brave soul. Wish you well. Great channel.
Lord Have Mercy! Bless you two on this endeavor! We have been Boondocking for 40 years and have tried and seen it all. OMG we watched a Poo bladder blow at Morro Bay State Beach Campgrounds dump station. Had the handle welded seam pop and the poo pulp water shot out at high pressure everywhere. 10-15’ Macerated pulp is horrible, hoses full of poo smell. Unfortunately they are made for fresh water not contaminated fecal matter. I would only state for anyone doing this to be prepared
Great idea. Just ordered. Will use on roller tray in bed and tonneau. Completey enclosed during travel. Venting was a concern at first, but easy enough to add one way vent cap. Air in, no crap out. Rinsing will take time, but doable with no line behind. Great work! Thanks for the innovation. Went with larger, 1000L. We have over 200 gal when full. Ordered blue, for fresh water, 100gal tank. Drop waste, pick up fresh on same trip.
Awesome. Yea, we should have covered the venting. We are still working out the regular sewer hose connection. We’ll report back on that. Barry said it made things so much easier, dump the black tote, the turn around and fill the second water tote in one trip.
Great video. Great idea but until you expand the choke point at that valve it won't matter how big of a hose is on the far end. I currently use a macerator to pump into a tote in the back of my truck. Looking to increase the capacity, likewise. Thinking of using a 55 gallon barrel with a properly installed gate valve to attach to the slinky hose. A couple of rinse fittings and a large bulkhead fitting for the fill. Light weight and cheap. It will hold our black tank with a bit of room from a grey to help rinse the system. Grey shower water can be used to flush the toilet and some other minor wash functions. The barrel would be primarily used for the black and the kitchen grey. I already have a potable water tank and a good 12 volt pump in order to retrieve fresh water when making the black dump trip.
Glad this works well for you. I tried using a highly rated macerator pump for our black tank, and it was SLOW, especially if the drain point for the hose was even a bit higher than the pump. It would take an hour to dump (not flush) our 39 gallon black tank.
Wow. That is slow. I think it might take 30 min or less for barry to drain ours into the tote. The pump we have is in our Amazon store. Seems to work well. We also don’t put paper in our toilets. So not sure if that helps.
We have a travel trailer, and I actually have an RV holding tank that I use as a tote, and it is very light weight (much lighter than the tote tank), and I have attached gate valve to it. It sits in the bed of the truck and I can empty it very quickly with slinky. Still have to make multiple trips though. But again, if the macerator pump fails (which it has in the past), it's a problem. I can still use the macerator and carry the regular wheeled tote in the bed of the truck, but if the macerator fails, we can still pull the wheeled tote to the station.
Glad you’re passing on your experience. I’ve considered doing similar but there’s little documented experiences I’ve found online. I’m interested in hearing about long term dependability.
We will continue to work with this setup over the coming months and probably do a follow up video on it. That should give more insight. Thanks for tuning in👍
Pretty cool. I already have the waste tote with the side discharge line for a standard RV sewer dump hose. I hook a 12 v macerator to my camper and have 30 feet of orange garden type hose and pump my tank into the tote while it’s in the back of my truck. I drive to the dump station and use a short Rv hose and dump it from the bed of my truck. It’s so easy I’m tempted to dump other peoples RVs.
@jondrew55 I do the same way as you do. I once had a Camco pop off my ball hitch going down a step road very very slow. Luckily, my rear tire stopped the 36-gallon tank, lucky for me, no spills.
I am curious if the solids might settle and block up that drain due to the small diameter orifice. Looking forward to the follow up video. Thanks for posting!
Nah. You're using a macerator to liquify everything. If you are flushing it a bit after each dump, we haven't seen any issues. But overtime if we do, we'll let everyone know.
Ever seen the movie "RV". That's an accident WAITING to happen 😅 You are very brave. 1000 pounds of raw sewage 😢 we love our Rhino. We have a Motorhome
Thanks for the great idea. I too have been struggling with where and how to manage the old turd Toter. I did want to ask how you go about cleaning out the bag after dumping. I assume it’s not hard, but just curious if there was any concerns regarding getting all the “stuff” out to avoid any smells or growth between uses. Appreciate your insight and experience on this.
Pretty much the same as the camco hard tote. You never really get everything out. Just flush and dump until you feel it’s flat. Tighten cap. lol this is why you need to put it in a bin. For the water bladder we do a little bleach flush every now and again.
😂 i think ill stick with my old system same as your old one. I installed a 12v outlet near the dump valve. Been boondocking for years, i dont trust that badder but i wish you all the luck in the world😅.
I like the idea of moving large amounts of waste and waste water in the bed of the truck. The first concern that comes to mind is the legality and liability of moving said amount of waste across local streets and highways should God forbid a leak develop and waste end up upon a road. EPA may become very unhappy. If not traveling on local streets , it seems like a great idea. Good Luck.
Great video, and thank you for this innovative alternative solution. As you fill the bladder from a sealed hose attachment, how is the air displaced within the bladded? The Camco tote uses a secondary air cap.
Me and a buddy were discussing this the other day, I'll share it with him. I think I'd use a valtera glue on gate valve rather than a ball valve for the outlet. Also, I made a rack behind the rear axle out of angle aluminum for my poop tote to ride in under my valor. Thanks for sharing!
I've been thinking about full time RV life, or even bus life. I have a lot of friends across the country, even around the world. im leaning towards renovating an RV or building a bus out though, because i am very much invested in VR at this point, which does require some space, but i have ideas for that. i dont really want to deal with a black tank though. my opinions may change with a macerator pump, but i am curious about how much improvements incinerating toilets have gotten, because im definitely not dealing with a composting toilet. im also wondering how well a residential, apartment sized range and oven will hold up to live on the road
Good for you. Sounds like bus build is in your future. We don't know much about the incinerating toilets but we know many who boondock most of the time preach how much they love them. I also know some people that have put in residential appliances. They are bigger and heavier. Plus, if you want to operate on 12volt, you'll need to see what has to happen for that to work. If you are going off grid, you'll want to research your solar or energy needs. I bet there are a bunch of schoolie communities that will have all of this detailed. Good luck!
@@liketheresnotomorrow oh absolutely, I'm also currently an electrician by trade, so the electrical portion doesn't concern me. I know what I want, I just don't know which path I want to go down to get what I want just yet

Great video. I've ordered everything and waiting on delivery now. One odd thing. The water tote on amazon shows 1.25" in and out but all the attachments you listed are all 1.5". Am i missing something?
I think it’s the difference of the inside and outside dimensions of the fittings. We’ve had others say it all worked as shown. I’ll have Barry take a look but I’m pretty sure the parts are all correct. If you have any issue, message me through our website and I will connect you to Barry for help.
Awesome idea. Amazing the amount of people that are worried about their own 💩. Just walking into a public area or bathroom you are bombarded by alot more that's gonna make you sick even with hand washing.
lol I know. People fear the worst case scenario. I get that. But if we all worry about the “what ifs” we would never even Rv at all. This tote is way better made than people can see from this video. Way higher grade than any water bladder I’ve seen. To each is own, I guess.
The one thing that I would have done differently is on the fill line installed a 90 degree elbow. That would put less stress on the connection. Just the pipefitter coming out I guess
Thanks for thinking outside of the box and sharing. Seems like its not ideal for everyone. Cant help but wonder how long it took you to empty with your first version?
You are totally right. We’ll do a follow up in a couple months and report back our final thoughts and findings. It took about 20 minutes with the smaller hose. We’ll try it with the sewer hose setup soon.
It looks like my previous suggestion got deleted or something. But, have you looked into the Incinerator Toilets made by Cinderella? I'm considering have a custom job done to remove the black tank entirely, expand the freshwater tank, and put in an incinerator toilet so there is ZERO black waste.
It’s a great suggestion. I think if we had the money and if we boondocked most of the year, we might consider. Just doesn’t make sense for us at this time.
@@liketheresnotomorrow Yeah, they aren't cheap, but they are also something that has been tried and true with over 25yrs of experience. For me personally, the $4k they cost is a HUGE convenience upgrade in NEVER having to deal with black tank waste EVER again! Pretty easy decision. Then take that black water tank space and add extra fresh water......win/win across the board.
I can’t see cleaning out a bladder tank, with soft sides, as being easy and complete. A standard turd tank, with hard sides is far easier to get clean with rinse water at the dump station. I do like the general concept however. I use a bladder for fresh water fill when boondocking and that system works nice. It holds 45ish gallons and was sold at Camp World at one time. Although, dealing with fresh water is a whole lot different than dealing with turd water.
Ya, I thought about this for a very short time and determined it would be difficult to clean the solids out of it and therefore would be a bad idea. after a short time it would retain the solids and the stench would be really bad. Let me know if I am wrong!
That must be a lost art...being able to tell when stuff is starting to go bad. Unfortunately I don't have that gift, with my bad sense of smell I've had many spit it out moments 😂. Great info on the bladder! I may have to convert to that for sure! Thanks for the tip!
I didn’t catch which oven you guys have. Our Grand Design came with a propane “Insignia” oven. The oven flame would go out often. For our oven, I figured out that if I opened or shut the door too fast the flame would go out. Open too fast, draws a vacuum and the flame goes out. Close too fast and it pressurizes too fast and blows out the flame. Since then I’ve very slowly opened and/or shut the door and it seems to have “Fixed” the problem. It’s really not a fix, more of a hack I guess😊
Can you use your menstruator pump to pump the liquid out of the bladder?Just like you use it to pump it into the bladder. Just bring a twelve volt battery with you and boom
We’ve never needed to do that. Gravity seemed to always do the job. It really won’t make it go through the smaller hose any faster. We’ll report back when we try the larger sewer hose connection.
Local mailing store, ups or fed ex stores or locations, campgrounds if we know we’ll be there on a certain date. They will usually hold it for us. General delivery at some post offices but you have to call and ask them. Some do and some don’t.
Our fresh is 100gallons. Up until now we have used a water bladder that holds about 60 and just bought another one like the black one in this video that holds 75. We have a video on it ua-cam.com/video/b_jtAKlYxT4/v-deo.htmlsi=eLvcyHV1HR60USEJ
That is just about the same set up I use with the macerator! I HAVE A 100 waste bladder. If you change the ends on your macerator and fresh water pump to SAE connectors you can tap off you RV battery and run a wire off your truck battery to the bed (or even adapt a 7 pin connector) and you not need the extra battery
Thanks. We have thought about that as well but we have separate batteries for Barry trolling motor for his inflatable boat. I think we’ll eventually do that. Thanks a bunch
@@liketheresnotomorrow I forgot Barry is a fisher! no need to retrofit for him he needs that battery. I get lazy with the pumps macerator and air compressor so it makes sense for me.
Yes the tote tank is a PITA and there's always a chance it might leak at a aeam or valve but it would be miniscule compared to the bladder. I wouldn't want to be near you at the dump station. Imagine a seam opening, even a small hole...there would be no stopping it. I use a bladder for fresh water but no way am I doing black or even gray (it stinks too). YOU ARE EXTREMELY BRAVE.
It would be great for water if that’s more comfortable. They have much smaller ones as well. It’s way more thick and strong than the water bladder that most of us use.
We will report back soon on the new setup with the three inch sewer connection. We did have to get another adapter. After we test it out a bit, we’ll update you guys. For now, we are just using the regular hose fittings. Totally works, just slow
I hope you don’t mind if I ask a question… do you fulltime with a compost toilet? Are there more than one person using? How often do you have to dump liquids/solids. I’m only a little familiar but we don’t boondock all year. So we didn’t think it would be worth it. Thoughts?
Yea, we should have shown that. We vented at the top hose. We’ll be doing a follow up after we try the 3” Rv sewer attachment. We also got one for the fresh tank. Coming soon…
Isn't easier just use bucket and bags for solids and pee in the woods ? Combine this with regular RV toilet use and I believe you can extend you stay and use the black balder for more water.
Heh, going to work reallll good in the middle of the desert. I can see you now: you fill it up, and it heats up in the sun on the way to the dump station. Or worse, you break down on the way there. That's going to be pretty sick.
I dont think having a larger hose will make it empty faster. Its a bottle neck issue. The hole in the bag is as small as the hose right? That is the part that needs to be bigger.
Seems pretty sketchy, just depends on camping style if you only boondock being frugal with water and a compositing toilet you could go for a couple weeks or more, also depends if you have a fresh water source or can comfortably dump grey but not sure im running around with a bladder of poop
It is a different way of thinking about things for sure - it's all about finding what works best for you and what you’re comfortable with. There’s lots of ways to do it. We are totally comfortable with it and have used it many times.
A puncture spilling clean water is one thing, sewerage is a different ‘matter’. That cheap bladder will turn quite expensive when it fails. Eliminating toilet flush water is a far better solution.
That's called a "blivet". Boaters use them as extra fuel and water tanks for long trips. And the military uses the five THOUSAND gallon size for refueling aircraft and other temporary sites where they may be no access.
Well crud. That stinks. Did you use the same one as us? We have had our first bladder 2 years and no issue. This new one is way thicker and well-made than our last. I guess it's always possible. We filled them with water to test before we ever did the tanks.
saw a guy with similar set up in back of his truck and thing got a leak over night WHAT MESS he was draining it at Quartzsite long term rv dump still leaking and smelling and if blm or cop saw this going down the road leaking ? well hope your insurance can cover the HAZMAT COSTS
I have a 30gal bladder for fresh water truck cap boondocking. (10+ fulltime RVing, now off grid stationary). Ive read people use those bladder rings to strap into truck bed then leaked. Black tanks gross. Why not line back of RV toilet bowl with Wal-Mart bag, after doing 2 business, tie it closed, drop in a 5 gal foot pedal trash can with bag in it. Dispose of in regular trash. 'Black' tank is liquid only now, only minimal water in it as no prevention of poo pyramid flushing necessary. My (2nd) 2018 RV has NEVER had poo in it and I live in it stationary!!!
So glad you have a system that works for you but I would have to say that keeping poo in a bag would not be in most people’s comfort zone. I can smell those poo bags from my dog a mile away. But people keep baby diapers in a pail sometimes, so…. 😜💩 Ya just gotta do what you’re comfortable with.
All I can think about while I watch this video is... "This is gross... Thanks" :) You did a good job showing the solution, and talking around the less desirable concepts. I just can't help but think about the macerator pump pumping pulpy poop into a poop bladder. A VEVOR chinesium poop bladder. This is the most entertaining video I will watch tonight by far. and... we got a new tongue twister out of the deal... "pumps pumping pulpy poop" :)
We tend to go at odd times or dump stations that aren’t crowded but it seems to take 20 min. We just added a mid that makes it a little faster now. We’ve waited behind people that too way longer than that with the traditional setup.
We didn’t show every single little detail. We plan on doing a follow up after we use it for a while. It’s working great…even with the bottle neck. We are able to empty it just fine. It may not be for some, but it working well for us.
You are doing it right. Do yourself a big favor, get a tarp that can completely cover your whole truck bed including the sides. Make sure the sides of the tarp are well secured to the top of the sides. Close the tailgate. What you are doing is protecting yourself should the blatter break. Also get a second one for fresh water. Place the second one on top of the first blatter. Fill the grey and black tanks into the black blatter. Go dump the black blatter. Now while you are out, filll the fresh water in the top fresh water blatter. The rest is easy. Don
Have you considered a compost toilet for boondocking? I've been full timing for 7 years and boondock 100% of the time. I have an Airhead compost toilet and I change the "solids" media (coco coir) about once a month. Simply invert the tank into a garbage bag and legally take it to the dump. Pee tank is two gallons and it is discreetly dumped in the desert when needed maybe once a week. This would not work so well though if you spend a lot of time at RV parks, as you would have to dump the pee tank often.
@@liketheresnotomorrow I guess it would depend on if that 6 months is all at once. And, how much of a limiting factor emptying the black tank is compared to batteries, fresh water, etc. I built my own cargo trailer to RV conversion and have a ton of solar and batteries. On demand propane water heater. There is a 100 gallon fresh water tank in the bed of the Ram that connects with a short hose to a water inlet in the V nose of the trailer. Full sized 120 volt home fridge with ice maker. Combined with the compost toilet, I can go up to a month without needing to resupply. I usually only do two weeks in one spot though, and have an abundance of water for long hot showers.

Great to see you, Darlene, and your new husband Barry.2 😂. It looks like you could do with a wonderful massage and chiropractor appointment ❤😊
Great idea!! Book it! lol
When the shit hits the fan, you won't need the fan😂
Ya, I thought about this for a very short time and determined it would be difficult to clean the solids out of it and therefore would be a bad idea. after a short time it would retain the solids and the stench would be really bad. Let me know if I am wrong!
We will. I don’t feel it will be any worse than the camco tank… but we shall see.
When that sucks blows it’s gonna get real. Real quick 🤣
That must be a lost art...being able to tell when stuff is starting to go bad. Unfortunately I don't have that gift, with my bad sense of smell I've had many spit it out moments 😂. Great info on the bladder! I may have to convert to that for sure! Thanks for the tip!
6 more months to our launch day and we will come find you guys you tow are hilarious! Keep darlene of the porch at night!
Ya dang right, light. Lots of light. lol
I’m on it. It’s so temperamental
We are heading to Quartzsite ...so thanks for the black tank idea.
They should make a bladder tank specifically for this use... Maybe have the 3" RV fitting built into the tank with a slide valve... 👀
That would be really convenient. Let us know if you’d find one.
@@liketheresnotomorrow Write the company... Show them your video... 👀
What are you using to power the macerator pump? Do you carry a spare lead acid battery?
We have spare batteries for Barry’s inflatable boat so he uses that but there’s an adapter I think you can get to use your truck 7-pin
@ Thanks! The 7-pin option sounds great. I’ll see what I can find on that. Enjoy Sonoita! Happy to have met you at Romp It Up!
@@ricspargo backatcha friend.
Are you considering doing a follow up video after Barry does the larger hose connectors
Yes. We sure will
This might make a great water tank for community HOT showers in an emergency situation.
How do you guys the things delivered while traveling?
Great video, thanks for sharing!
Local mailing store, ups or fed ex stores or locations, campgrounds if we know we’ll be there on a certain date. They will usually hold it for us. General delivery at some post offices but you have to call and ask them. Some do and some don’t.
Great info on that bladder. I was hoping for a better solution than using one of those totes
So far, we are loving it. We ordered a new one for our fresh e
Water refill tool just gonna have to REALLY label them😜❤️
@@liketheresnotomorrow yeah you wouldn't want to get those mixed up!
Great product for dumping but have a question how big is your fresh water tank & how do you refill that tank when Boondocking 👍
Our fresh is 100gallons. Up until now we have used a water bladder that holds about 60 and just bought another one like the black one in this video that holds 75. We have a video on it
ua-cam.com/video/b_jtAKlYxT4/v-deo.htmlsi=eLvcyHV1HR60USEJ
Thank you for the information 👍😁
If you have a motorhome, you're up a creek. Also, if it get punctured, oh man!
You are 100% right...you wouldn't do this if you had a motorhome. lol
It’s way more thick and strong than the water bladder that most of us use.
how has the sewer tank drain worked. I see the adapter has two clamps to threaded end adapters.
We will report back soon on the new setup with the three inch sewer connection. We did have to get another adapter. After we test it out a bit, we’ll update you guys. For now, we are just using the regular hose fittings. Totally works, just slow
I'll take my composting toilet any day
I hope you don’t mind if I ask a question… do you fulltime with a compost toilet? Are there more than one person using? How often do you have to dump liquids/solids. I’m only a little familiar but we don’t boondock all year. So we didn’t think it would be worth it. Thoughts?
I’m here for the comments! 😂
lol there’s plenty 😜
Howdy y'all. When you are filling this thing, do you have to vent it or anything to displace any air that is in there? Dats alatta crap. Bahahaha
What if you used the maserator pump for a draining method? Let me know if this is an option
We’ve never used it that way, so not sure
Heh, going to work reallll good in the middle of the desert. I can see you now: you fill it up, and it heats up in the sun on the way to the dump station. Or worse, you break down on the way there. That's going to be pretty sick.
I dont think having a larger hose will make it empty faster. Its a bottle neck issue. The hole in the bag is as small as the hose right? That is the part that needs to be bigger.
Can’t change that. But we will report back with how it works fooling to a larger or regular sewer hose at the end. We shall see
We have that exact water bladder.🤣🤣🤣 That bladder is designed for frsh water.
We have a separate one for water as well
Holy moly folks. Good luck with these poop bag trips lol. I will not be hauling poo-smoothies around in the back of my truck in a bag.
Hopefully no accident will happen
10:39 still only so much will come out because it's bottle necked. The diameter at the point of exit has to be big period.
Thinking that tailgate support arms would be wise. That's alot of weight.
Awesome. Thanks for that info.
What size tote did you use?
142 but even the 80 would be great. Probably fit better as well
I was referring to a storage tote like the HDX totes!
I did the same thing and my bladder leaked after the 1st use, not fun in the back of my truck.
Well crud. That stinks. Did you use the same one as us? We have had our first bladder 2 years and no issue. This new one is way thicker and well-made than our last. I guess it's always possible. We filled them with water to test before we ever did the tanks.
@@liketheresnotomorrow mine was from not a Vevor, but it was from Amazon. I have another fresh water bladder that is several years old.
You're more brave than me.😂 If that thing lets go....... 🤢
saw a guy with similar set up in back of his truck and thing got a leak over night WHAT MESS he was draining it at Quartzsite long term rv dump still leaking and smelling and if blm or cop saw this going down the road leaking ? well hope your insurance can cover the HAZMAT COSTS
Also seen people overflow their camco hard tanks. It’s all a risk. To each is own.
I hope it doesn't spring a leak that would make it a hell of a mess
So would a regular tote, or your sewer hose, or many things. We’ll report back in a couple of months and share our thoughts.
Not sure about using that some people have had experience with those leaking that would be gross
Does a bear ---- in the woods?
Go Joe Walsh
Hopefully they have different color bladders so you don't get the waste water and fresh water mixed up lol!!
lol. I thought the same thing. Gonna have to put some tape or stickers all over it with labels. Just in case😜
No thanks, disaster waiting to happen.
You sound like my husband he eats leftovers so I cook extra for leftovers.
Yep, I try to always make extra too.
All I can think about while I watch this video is... "This is gross... Thanks" :)
You did a good job showing the solution, and talking around the less desirable concepts. I just can't help but think about the macerator pump pumping pulpy poop into a poop bladder. A VEVOR chinesium poop bladder. This is the most entertaining video I will watch tonight by far. and... we got a new tongue twister out of the deal... "pumps pumping pulpy poop" :)
Glad we could entertain
Sure hope somebody isn’t waiting behind you to use the station. They will be waiting a long time!
We tend to go at odd times or dump stations that aren’t crowded but it seems to take 20 min. We just added a mid that makes it a little faster now. We’ve waited behind people that too way longer than that with the traditional setup.
You guys never finished the poop bag.
Don
Tarp is a great idea. Thanks Don👍👍👍
I applaud the engineering and solution, but I don't think our family can boondock that much.
It’s certainly not for everyone.
I think composting toilets are the way to go. Can't imagine hauling blackwater in my camper.
No thank you
Have you considered a compost toilet for boondocking? I've been full timing for 7 years and boondock 100% of the time. I have an Airhead compost toilet and I change the "solids" media (coco coir) about once a month. Simply invert the tank into a garbage bag and legally take it to the dump. Pee tank is two gallons and it is discreetly dumped in the desert when needed maybe once a week.
This would not work so well though if you spend a lot of time at RV parks, as you would have to dump the pee tank often.
We spend about half the year boondocking. I think if we did more we’d consider it.
Myself, with two people 13 gallons of black waste in a week and a half. What the heck are you people eating?
Not sure. To each their own. We don’t judge. You live how you live.
42 gallons for black? And you couldnt go 42 days with one dump? Wow you all are really full of it
Aren’t you just a ray of positive sunshine. Sheesh. Thanks for feeding the algorithm for us.

Why do you have to lift the heavy (full?) tote when you can run the macerator pump with the tote already in the truck bed (empty)?
We don’t lift it. It’s in our truck bed
