I heard something from a fairly well known person, she and her young family attended the JW assembly for a number of years. This followed the dissolution of the local gospel church. She didn't pay much attention to the JW theology, HER FAMILY WANTED COMMUNITY. ( they were eventually asked to leave). But to me this a a key insight how some of the fringe groups attract young families that has been forgotten by mainstream denominations. They offer a strong community for the whole family to be part of, not just Sunday services. So i share it for those who have a burden for those lost in certain joyless, punitive groups.
I agree, the sense of community is strong. However, if anyone is thinking in joining just for the community aspect; 2 things to keep in mind: 1) you will be encourage to stop associating and having friendship with anyone who is not a JW (including family members). This makes sense for them as they believe only JWs will survive the armaggedon. 2) If you decide to leave, even if you haven't commit any sin (disfellowshipped) you will be shunned by all JWs, at this point; your entire social circle. My advice, think twice.

Very true. Also true is the JW missionaries are HIGHLY trained with answers to common objections so if one chooses to engage with them in a dialogue, be prepared to defend your position. Their views as easy to show are anti biblical but they are masters of dialogue so some study of their theological points of views are highly encouraged. One point you could easily get them on is when you open the door, and they offer you a watchtower tract, offer them some literature as well...they will likely reject it and say they have already read it or know it...then respond with well then why should I accept your literature. The vast history of failed prophecies is enough for most people to see this is not a truth bearing organization.
Yes. Offering them your literature will work absolutely to perfection. They are forbidden from reading it. Offering to pray with them right there and then and hold hands will cause them to feel awkward. Inviting them to your church will also do it. They are there to convince you why they think they have the truth and why your religion is false and to try to convince you to go and join them. They are not there to exchange ideas freely with somebody and mutually respect one another’s views.
@@rumrunner8019 that really won’t work. Most of them don’t know about it. Especially the young ones. It’s not really spoken about. You have to dig in the literature to find it. And, besides, they will just tell you that the doctrine has changed since then because new light has come to them since then showing them the error of that teaching. The religion is set up perfectly for doctrinal changes because they see themselves as emerging from false teaching and having to constantly cleanse themselves and elements of false religion. This allows them to always undergo changes and to reject any prior teaching as something that is a remnant of false religion they have since shed.

The only change i would've made as an ex-jw is the part about adult baptism. While Jehovah's Witnesses will publicly declare that they do not baptize children, there are multiple examples even in their own literature of children as young as 7 or 8 being baptized.
From one of Jehovah's Witnesses, I appreciate that you can present a view that contradicts your own without getting derogatory. Thank you. However, I'd want to add a bit of comment: 1- I appreciate the opening, that Russell was just a guy with a publishing company. He was NOT a saint or prophet or anything of the sort. He just started a movement to question popular opinion and tradition and get back to what Christ actually taught in the bible. 2- I wouldn't really say "The Watchtower sets the doctrine of the group." The Watchtower magazine is a study guide. Things explicitly in the bible are doctrine. It's fair that two very important concepts where we differ from popular churches is that we are not trinitarian and believe that salvation is a resurrection to eternal life, and the lack of salvation is simply the lack of life: death. Not dying and spending eternity in heaven/hell. The book of Daniel (particularly chapter 4) is doctrinally important, but the idea that it points to 1914 (and what it means to point to 1914) is a human attempt to explain what Daniel 4 could mean. Daniel 4 is doctrine, our attempt to understand it is fallible speculation. 3- Same with the "Doctrines are established by it's governing body" statement. Their role is to organize the congregation and approve study material, not to set doctrine. They have responsibility, not authority. We're expected to give prayerful consideration to the studies offered, but they've said repeatedly over the last century that they are NOT infallible, and expect readers to first and foremost be loyal to God above all men, including them. They're not above the congregation, they only have a role of leadership WITHIN the congregation. 4- One amendment to the cross part: We note that the word used is "Stauros." This torture stake could be of any number of shapes, including but not limited to crosses. It COULD have been a simple upright stake. Or tree. Or a fixed Cross, sure. Or an X or a Y or a living tree or anything else. The point is the scripture doesn't specify a shape and we should not fixate on the shape itself, but the meaning of him giving up his life. Personally, what seems to fit the text as written and makes the most logical sense to me is that Jesus did NOT walk up carrying a whole cross OR stake, but was already strapped to a Roman patibulum (a removable crossbeam he'd already be strapped to when lead up to a simple permanent stake). 5- Not sure where you get the "God (The Father) has a spirit body and is not present everywhere" statement? 6- The 144,000 are simply the ones described in Revelation chapters 7 and 14. The little flock purchased from the earth to be kingdom priests, as opposed to "the great crowd which no one is able to number." Whatever their role is, or the duration of their role is up for speculation as it's only briefly mentioned in a couple parts in Revelation. But yes, we believe in the resurrection. 7- The "For salvation works are necessary" point also fundamentally misses the point. Salvation is a free gift. But, people who claim to submit to God should ACTUALLY submit to God. The full book of Romans clarifies the intricacies of this in very good detail, particularly chapters 5/6. Next few points are pretty fair, although "shunning people who leave" is a bit of a misrepresentation. Only if you were an ordained minister of the church AND you "not only leave," but either live in unrepentant sin or join a contradictory religion, THEN you would be acknowledged as "no longer one of Jehovah's Witnesses" and then congregational ties are severed unless you choose to return. This doesn't mean family ties, it's not grounds for divorce, parents are still responsible to care for their dependents, people should still be courteous, and disfellowshipped people should never be insulted or harassed or badmouthed behind their backs or anything like that. They're just not congregational brothers or sisters, and if they choose to continue coming to meetings, they won't be called on during the study review. 8- "Not allowed to read anti-watchtower literature" is also fair, but sometimes misrepresented. Yes, we read outside literature. We also read literature that disagrees with us. We're advised not to waste our time with literature that's blatantly biased and extremely polemic. If it's intentionally hostile literature intended to tear people down... we consider it best to just avoid it. Respectful disagreements in the realm of 1 Peter 3:15 is FINE. We WANT people to ask questions and look into the bible, even if it's to disprove us. We DON'T want to just "convert people to our dogma." We want people to get closer to God and study the truth. Everyone's imperfect, and to whatever extent we're wrong, we would RATHER you believe "the truth" than "our opinion." Because we've critically analyzed all available interpretations of scripture for so long, we're rather confident that we're the closest to what Jesus taught available today. If there were a group more accurately following Jesus, a faithful Jehovah's Witness would be obligated to go to that group and follow Jesus the best they can.
Thanks for your detailed comment. I will address 4 and 5 above. For #4, I think watchtower literature is explicitly against the "cross" shape. For example: Watchtower March 15, 1957, “Did Christ Die on a Cross?”, wol.jw.org/en/wol/d/r1/lp-e/1957201 "Clearly there is no Scriptural support for the traditional cross as a symbol of Christianity. Then how can its adoption by professed Christians be accounted for? It was borrowed from the surrounding pagans. It is another one of the many paganisms that the early apostate Christians adopted so as to appeal to the pagans and to be more like them. … Thus we see the Scriptures, the facts of history and reason uniting to testify that Christ did not die on a cross but upon an upright pole or stake, a stauros, xylon, crux. Also, that regardless of its form, it is to be abhorred rather than venerated. In keeping with these facts the New World Translation of the Christian Greek Scriptures renders stauros as “torture stake” and xylon as “stake,” when it refers to the instrument on which Christ died. " For #5 Watchtower February 15, 1981, “How Real is God to You?”, wol.jw.org/en/wol/d/r1/lp-e/1981122 Actually, by teaching that God is omnipresent Christendom has confused matters and made it more difficult for God to be real to his worshipers. How could God be present everywhere at the same time? God is a spirit Person, which means that he does not have a material body, but a spiritual one. A spirit has a body? Yes, for we read, “If there is a physical body, there is also a spiritual one.” (1 Cor. 15:44; John 4:24) God being an individual, a Person with a spirit body, has a place where he resides, and so he could not be at any other place at the same time.
@@shadowbannedforspeakingtru1436 The Truth is Christ Jesus (John 14:6). @HEisTheWay, From a JW: No. Articles are written by fallible people. They SHOULD be respected and given prayerful consideration. We do not give "unquestionable obedience" to any human. Period. None. However, the world has always had some "weird times," where we're expected to take care of ourselves and trust local secular authorities. However, the book of Revelation DOES describe a Great tribulation where secular authorities will be quite ineffective... if REALLY weird stuff happens, we should be prepared to look for advice from the congregation. @@777Tralfaz777 I’m not sure I understand the connection you are making with that passage. What I meant by my criticism was that any organization that binds the consciences of its members to never be exposed to any opposing views is suspicious. If they really had confidence that what they believe and teach is true, why would they absolutely prohibit this? How are you ever supposed to evaluate the truthfulness of your belief if you are never allowed to even be exposed to any opposing claims? I’m not denying the role of faith. But any organization can trap anybody into believing absolutely anything they want that way, because you wouldn’t be exposed to anything other than what they tell you. How many times have they talked about the end and Armageddon. ITS ALL THEY DO. Jesus instructions, simple. Do not go after them. @@Hopmeister96 You said "I’m not sure I understand the connection you are making with that passage." It fits many of the critiques people levy. We are exposed to opposing views all the time. We just do not drink them in. You said "why would they absolutely prohibit this?" An overstatement to be sure. They give reasons for caution. But this "forbidding" and "prohibit" language is extreme and false. You said "How are you ever supposed to evaluate the truthfulness of your belief if you are never allowed to even be exposed to any opposing claims?" I have investigated. You said "especially in this age of the internet where so much information is available to anybody at all who wants to look for it" ??? And you think this is only positive? Is Satan misleading the entire inhabited Earth?
Here's the most succinct differentiation between Jehovah's Witnesses and mainstream Christianity: Jehovah's Witnesses believe the Father alone is God (John 17:3, 1 Corinthians 8:6, and the entire Hebrew bible). And that it's important to know that he has a personal name (Exodus 3:15 and Jeremiah 16:21). (Although we're not picky about different dialects pronouncing it differently) We believe Jesus is the only-begotten son of God, our messiah, lord, king, and high priest to his God and ours. We believe Jesus actually emptied himself to be born on earth (not leaving a divine nature in heaven), and actually died (not leaving parts alive), and was actually resurrected. We believe the wages of sin is death (not hell), and the gift God offers is eternal life through an actual resurrection (Romans 6:23) as opposed to everyone dying and being separated into pleasant or torturous deaths. Further the promise in Revelation 21:3-4 that there will be no more mourning or crying or pain is directly incompatible with the concept of ongoing torment in a hell. And that it's everyone's job to study the bible and conform themselves to what IT teaches, regardless of how popular or unpopular any human tradition is.
If Jehovah's Witnesses conform to the teachings of the Bible, why is the NWT not in agreement with the Greek and Hebrew manuscripts? Why do they use titles like Governing Board, publishers, and Pioneers which come from Corporations? They are not from the Bible. Also, they hate JESUS. When he said not to believe anyone who said he returned invisibly, the Governing Board says that he lied and did return in 1914. JESUS said that his kingdom will have no end and that the gates of Hell can not prevail against it, but your Governing Board says that the church was destroyed and JESUS chose the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society to be his new church which makes JESUS a liar.
"My Lord and my God." St Thomas to Jesus. Paul in philippians 2 said that Jesus shared the nature of God. John 1:1 "in the beginning was the word, and the word was with God, and the word was God." Jesus to the people, "before Abraham was, I am." Arianism has already been wiped out. Why did you guys bring it back? As to hell, Mathew 8 v "12 But the subjects of the kingdom will be thrown outside, into the darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.” sounds like a literal hell, doesn't it?
There are a couple of very important bullet points that you forgot: - Shunning means it is forbidden for any Jehova's Witness to have any contact with you which means you will lose all family and friends. - If you are sexually abused by a Jehovah's Witness you may not report it to the police or you will be shunned. - If your parents report sexual abuse to the police they too will be shunned. - If you are the abuser just deny it and the church elders will protect you. - If you require a blood transfusion to survive a medical crisis you must choose death instead - or you will be shunned. - If you think these rules mean that our elders are ignoble and wicked then you are most certainly right.
@larysnw418 I am a lifelong atheist who deplores the harm done in the name of fictitious gods. Your denials about the sheltering of sexual abusers are nothing if not wickedness. Your defense of shunning because it's in the bible is equally deplorable and inhumane. Perhaps you have not actually read the bible and are unaware that it is replete with atrocities. We now live in a world of instant global communications and everybody has a video camera in their pocket. The corrupt control of the old men is being exposed as I speak. Here in Canada, we just had a CBC documentary with a full hour of evidence about the ongoing abuses. So welcome to the 21st century - it will not go well for religious cults. I'm sure you are already worried that the Witnesses only retain one third of the people who were raised in the church (Pew Research). That alone speaks volumes.
@larysnw418 "Nothing is being "exposed" in Canada and attempts(unsuccessful) to discredit JWs are nothing new." Your cult is already discredited by the ARC. And, are you enjoying Norway? Also, they have been successful (Look at Spain). "I too deplore the harm done by ped0philes." No, you don't. You shelter them. Look up the ARC? "JWs represent true Christianity." JWs don't represent true Christianity, you need to provide evidence for this claim. "So your statement from Pew research is irrelevant and meaningless." How is it irrelevant and meaningless?
@larysnw418 "If the parents report it to the police they will not be shunned." That is a lie, Larry. If the parents report it to the police they will be shunned. "The elders will not protect a child abuser.." The elders will protect a child abuser. "Taking a blood transfusion doesn't mean they will be shunned." Why are you lying? "I suspect that you're disfellowshipped which would explain your post." How would you know that?
If I understand correctly, a JW would say that only 144,000 "anointed" will _go to Heaven_ to rule with Jesus as some sort of priest-kings. However, John 10:16 mentions "other sheep" which are "not of this fold" (presumably the anointed), "and they shall hear my voice, and there shall be one fold and one shepherd". When (in the video, 1:15) Jesus returns to reign over the Earth, He and the anointed will lead and purify this "other flock" consisting of all the dead who were righteous (but not righteous enough to make the 144,000 list), as well as all the dead who died "unrighteous" but who didn't warrant total anihilation, who will be getting a second chance to hear and obey (again, see the video) and thus join the ranks of the "other flock". Those righteous people who are _alive_ at the time of the Second Coming (and who aren't already part of the anointed) are considered part of the "great crowd" mentioned in the Book of Revelations, but are otherwise in the same boat as the "other flock". When the Millennium ends, Jesus and the anointed will return to Heaven to spend eternity with God, while the much, much larger "other flock" and "great crowd", purified inside and out, will live eternally in a peaceful utopia _on Earth,_ which by then will have been cleaned and restored into an equivalent to the Garden of Eden. As far as _salvation,_ rather than eschatology, JWs seem to subscribe to the "Ransom Theory", i.e. our sins doomed us to die and be eternally separated from God, but Jesus' death freed us and opened the way to Heaven, which would otherwise be entirely inaccessible. Again, this is all just assuming I'm understanding correctly. My understanding of it all is probably little better than yours; I'm just good at finding and summarizing information. Ultimately, I guess it depends on your definition of "saved". Most Christian denominations consider the righteous to be "saved" when they're assured that they'll be spending eternity _in Heaven,_ thus the JW "anointed" would be "saved" and the "other flock" would be in a weird not-quite-saved, not-quite-damned state. The JWs, if I'm not mistaken, would argue that the anointed and the other flock are _both_ "saved", living without sin for all eternity in wonderful lands of perfect peace and joy, it's just that their roles and their ultimate destinations are different.
@@mattmurdock2868 Look up Psalm 83:18 in different Bible translations the God Jehovah is not made up by the Watchtower a simple google search will show you all the Bible’s that use the name starting from William Tyndale’s translation to the King James to the Masoretic Hebrew text that shows you how the YHWH vowels were written to get Jehovah translated in English which many Bible’s replace with Lord and there is dispute whether that is the correct pronunciation but anyone that claims the Watchtower made it up has no idea what they are talking about
@@Johnnywalkerbravo Yes, I understand about the name Jehovah...the god of Watchtower is not the God found in scripture. Moreover, none of the teachings from Watchtower can be found in scripture. The God found in scripture is a Godhead. The name of the Godhead is YHWH. Father. Son. Holy Ghost. These are YHWH, the Godhead. The Watchtower teaches this flawed theology... YHWH =LORD = Father =Jehovah. Of course nothing like that can be found in scripture. Bible =Word of God. NWT=ever changing word of Watchtower.
I’m being forced to be a JW because of my parents (I love them but damn do I hate this religion) and I can confirm I am often told I look or am joyless

I know this is an older video, so I’m hoping somebody will respond to me. So my old friend who, I won’t give too much detail about his life, I’ll just say every time I hung out with him he was doing hard drugs, not weed, like coke and meth and obviously alcohol. Anyways after not seeing him for over a year, he’s telling me he’s now a Jehovah’s Witness, sharing his testimony, preaching to people. Before I knew he was a JW I thought that was great… till I heard the door to door thing and he confirmed he was a JW. I know how much of a cult they are, I follow a UA-camr that talks about what it’s like and how she still struggles to this day about what she went through. Does anyone have any advice on what I could say to him? Or should I not say anything at all?
If he means alot to you, I would warn him. He might hate you for it but just let him know this cult is being exposed for a lot of unjustified suffering and you don't want him to get wrapped up in something that could damage him later. A warning is all some people need to eventually break out of it.
Don't take this the wrong way,but I think your friend should decide for himself what's best for him as long as it keeps him away from doing drugs and he's happy with his life, and doesn't cause pain to others but overall I think you should listen to his side of the story. Hope this helps you.
I was a jw for 15 years and I still know what happens through family connections and these are correct but 2 of them might need more citations God's body in heaven is more abstract because it is more viewed as his will everywhere so some kind of duality there I'm having a hard time expressing. Also adult baptism only is a rule in print and a new one at that but in practice it is anyone aware enough to answer the elders pre baptism questions with understanding is alowed to get baptized, I have personally witnessed someone as young as 9 take the plunge. and with disfellowshiping only happening to baptised members it has lead to enough teen self-deaths for them to outwardly change the look of that rule
A VERY EARLY PROPHECY HELPS US TO UNDERSTAND THAT GOD WOULD SEND AN ANGEL / STAR TO EARTH TO BECOME A MAN: “I will see him, but not now; I will behold him, but not soon. A star will come out of Jacob, And a scepter will rise out of Israel. And he will certainly break apart the forehead of Moʹab And the skull of all the sons of tumult.” Numbers 24:17 IT'S TIME FOR TRINITARIANS TO STOP LYING TO THEMSELVES AND OTHERS AND REPENT BECAUSE IT IS BLASPHEMY TO ATTRIBUTE ANYTHING TO GOD BEYOND WHAT HE SAYS BY MEANS OF HIS ANGELIC "WORD" (JESUS) AND IN HIS WRITTEN WORD THE BIBLE DEAR FATHER I PRAYER IN JESUS NAME THAT SPIRITUAL COMPREHENSION WILL BE GRANTED TO ALL WHO ARE SEEKING THE TRUTH AS JESUS PRAYED FOR ALL HUMANS SAYING: “This means everlasting life, their coming to know you, the only true God, and the one whom you sent, Jesus Christ.” MAY HONEST-HEARTED ONES FIND THE TRUTH AND ACCEPT IT IN JESUS NAME - AMEN
Informative video. However, JW baptisms aren't restricted to adults. Children may be baptized younger, especially if they grew up in a JW household. Whenever they are deemed mature enough to make the decision. The earliest I've heard of is 12 years old, but I have friends that were 14-16...
My cousin’s wife was nine. Nine! I have personally been in congregations with seven year olds and six year olds getting baptized. I never approved of it even when I was in. I’d frequently get into arguments over it. I can’t think of a single instance in the Bible where a child gets baptized. If we are to use Jesus is our example, he is said to have been 29 years old when he got baptized. In other words, you’re supposed to be old enough to know what you’re getting into and what you are committing to. There’s no way in hell a seven-year-old knows what they’re getting into and what they’re committing to. All they know is everybody is congratulating them and everybody’s pleased with them and thinks they’re awesome. What kid wouldn’t like that?
@@hereweare9096 I am aware of this. They do it for a different reason. Usually, a church that baptizes babies does so in order to save the child by having them be a Christian from the very beginning. Jehovah’s Witnesses reason for baptism is completely different. The reason is that somebody is leaving behind their former life of sin, and embracing a new life wherein they dedicate themselves completely to doing God‘s will as interpreted by the organization,. This usually translates to all the preaching work and upholding, the very strict statutes of the religion. Before they even get baptized, there is a long discourse that they have to listen to in a very public assembly hall type setting. During it, there are three questions that they must answer with a very loud and emphatic, yes while standing before the congregation. One of them involves that they will forever henceforth be identified as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses, and must adhere to their standards and principles. This is where I have a problem with baptizing children. That is too big of a commitment for a prepubescent child to fully understand. I would even argue that it’s too big for a teenager to understand. This is pretty much where they agree that if they screw up, they are liable to being shunned by everybody else in the religion up to and including their very own parents and siblings.
This is a very good summary, and in 2 minutes flat. I have witnessed to many JWs over the years (they come to me). They freely engage in discussion, but their doctrine is so mismatched to established scripture, I am amazed that they believe what they do. Much of what is presented here is clearly plain nonsense, and there is a lot. Yet I do believe in freedom choice. However talk about commitment. They put many orthodox believers to shame.
They have their own translation of the Bible (New World?). You go in a change of few words of any document, text, contract...presto. The meaning can change big time.
@@bradlong7941 Yes they do, and they are not permitted to use any other translation. Also the verses (especially John 1:1) are doctored to deny the divinity of Christ.
@@malcolmabram2957 it’s not true that they can’t use any translation other than the New World translation. They have an app called the JW Library that has several different Bible translations in it. The king James is fairly frequently quoted especially by the older people who learned the religion before the New World translation came out as is the new international version and the Jerusalem Bible. They use them whenever they express a point More clearly than the New World translation does. I’ve seen this done many times. They also use other translations in different languages whenever there’s not a version of the New World translation in that language. Give you three guesses how I know all this crap.

Just a correction , they dont believe Jesus returned to earth in 1914 , instead that he began ruling from Heaven , turning his attention to earth , specifically in relation to their organisation and the spreading of the gospel during the last days , which they teach also began in 1914 . A point of note : Charles T Russell , who founded the Bible Student Movement , that eventually split from the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society , taught that 1914 marked the end of gentile domination over the earth , but specifically in regards to Palestine , with the defeat of the Ottoman Empire , which he believed would lead to the restoration of natural Isreal restored to their homeland . History indicates he was right in that regard . In 1917 , the Belfour declaration was signed , paving the way for Jews to return to Palestine . The rest is history .
The 1914 thing, they revised it when it didn't happen then claim they never said the original version. They have done that multiple times. That specific 'revision' was copied from failed prophesy in the 1800s by Rev. Miller and the Millerites.
@@hadast3806 yes. There’s a lot of debate about that. Private debate. It’s ridiculous and silly. it’s also super dangerous. People have paid with their lives for that believe. Even kids.
I spent quite some time reading over the comments of many people based on this short two Minute video. It amazes me how people can come to a decisive conclusion about a religious organization so quickly. I would hate to see most of these people as jurors in a murder trial of an innocent person. People choose to believe what they want, so long as it suits them! Even if it means ignoring truth or being dishonest. The end of this system will come and so will those who wilfully chose to disregard Gods standards of living. While it is true that people make quick judgements easily and perhaps unfairly, denying the trinity and still claiming to be Christian just discourages people from hearing them out. It's sort of like denying the virgin birth of Christ or the incarnation.
Very good presentation. There is one correction, however. CT Russell taught that the last days began in *1799* and Jesus returned in *1874.* Russell taught that Armageddon would occur in 1914. Later, *1914* became both the year of Jesus' invisible return AND the beginning of the Last Days, after all of Russell's predictions had failed. WT did not officially change the alleged events of 1799 and 1874 to 1914 until 1943.
1914 was the end of the gentile times, and thus, the birth of the Kingdom. Bro. Russell did have some wrong views, but 1914 proved to be the beginning of Jesus' presence, and the start of the last days.

@@777Tralfaz777 Nothing you said is evidence. All you're doing is repeating the script WT has given you. Quoting random scriptures, then making wild assertions about them isn't evidence, either. *"the 7 times prophesy in Daniel directly pointed to 1914"* Really? Are you aware that NOT ONE verse in the Bible ever gives a date for anything? Give me your best, most convincing argument, that Daniel's prophecy points to 1914. How do you arrive at 1914 based on the book of Daniel? Go ahead and walk us though it. I bet you've never given this even one second of thought or proven it to yourself, have you? You're just repeating what you've been told by WT, the non-prophet organization.
Refuting 'the organization' is easy enough but replacing its teachings can be difficult because some 'unlearning' is needed. To quickly summarize principal WT errors: 1) Supersessionism (ie. the Church - 'the organization in WT parlance' - inheriting the promises made to natural Jews), 2) Arianism (a fourth century heresy) and 3) partial preterism, namely that Christ has returned and the Kingdom has already been established on Earth. For example wrt to point #1 Jerusalem was not destroyed in 607BC as per WT, that happened roughly 20 years earlier, so the 1914 date for the return doesn't work; however if you apply the 2,250 prophetic years for the return of Israel to the Decree of Cyrus then you land on May 14, 1948, exactly when Israel was reestablished as a State. As for 144,000 these are natural Jews (Messianic converts like Paul most likely) appointed during the Tribulation period about which Revelation is written to evangelize after the 'restrainer' (ie. the true Church made of born again believers is gone), and not a cap on the number going to heaven. Point being, the Bible is true and inspired and if you want to know what is required for Salvation please simply read Romans 10:9,10. God wants a direct relationship with each of us we simply need to ask directly and genuinely repent of our sins. Denominations are all corrupt to varying degrees, thankfully that's not where we need to look for salvation. We simply need faith.

JW doorknockers were such a non-stop nuisance back in the '70s-'90's in his rural town that my uncle always kept a loud barking dog on the porch to keep people from approaching the door.
I just don't answer them if they speak to me on the street. When anyone knocks on my door (whatever missionary, door-to-door sales, or scam artist) I just say what do you want? One missionary said "want to discuss the Bible." My yelled back was no thanks I have enough Bibles. The door person says "want to tell you --" I just interrupted I have all the info I need, go away. The caller(s) left. No more interaction. Some people would say I should engage further discussion. Why? I didn't ask for their visit. I can go to their place of meeting, go their website (or any other) and this intrusion of my privacy and time is not tolerated by me. These door-to-door people are trying to take advantage of lonely, ignorant, defenseless people, and when they got their literature or money or free will, the victim is hard to lead a better life. And my religion is precious to me. And my conversion to the religious views were on MY TIME and FREE WILL. I don't need to bother people. I still get street preachers singling me out. No matter what I say, they are rude and controversial. They are not how the disciples were, because Jesus said if the people have a desire, they will accept the message, or shake the dust off and go to the next town. And I appreciate that.
Were jehovahs witnesses influenced by Mormons? Some doctrines sound EERILY similar to doctrines Mormonism originated decades to nearly a century prior, such as Christ ruling for 1000 years where the limited righteous will assist in his works, the salvation of the ignorant being given another chance during the millennium/after death, and multiple paradises
Nothing to do with the Momons, we just look like them 😆 tangentially related to Seventh Day Adventists, but that was back when they were hard-core anti trinitarian and Annihilationist, they changed over time. And unlike Mormons all our doctrine comes from the Bible, we don't do the "we have another prophet" thing.
As someone whose faith is involved in this comment, please refrain from using the term "Mormon". It is slang and incorrect. President Nelson, in 2018, asked those who are members or who respect the Church to use its true name- The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints- or else refer to it as "the Restored Church of Christ" or "the Church of Christ".
@@EmilyS-gk3st I’m mormon. It isn’t “slang” it’s the name of the man who abridged the Book of Mormon and a term that Joseph smith himself went along with calling us. I was baptized at 10 and had a friend who was baptized at 7. They definitely baptize children while criticizing Catholics for doing the same. My husband is Catholic and he did his first Communion when he was 9.
It's more a matter of a "believer's baptism" rather than an "infant baptism/alter call baptism." We don't see baptism as the FIRST step, but follow Jesus' example (as his started his ministry for the rest of his life). We would expect people to have ALREADY repented of their sin and submitted themselves to God to qualify for baptism. It's an ordination into the ministry that should come after you've thoroughly studied. So, if you've been studying since birth, baptism as a teenager happens. The comment below about people baptized at 7-10 would be quite abnormal... I wouldn't call the guy a liar or anything, but I've certainly never seen anyone THAT young baptized as a JW. I've done some bible readings and a talk in front of the congregation before the age of 10, sure... but we view baptism as serious as a marriage.

@@wylolister3218 I'm sure those aren't the only two cases in history. But it would still be very abnormal. I'm 3rd generation, and starting to pursue preparation for baptism around 11 was still rather early. We believe people should "qualify" for baptism because it's not a decision to make on a whim... It's a commitment to minister for the rest of your life, as serious of a commitment as marriage. So, people should demonstrate that this isn't an impulse, that they actually understand what they're committing to, and that they're committing to serve God for the right reasons (loyalty to HIM, not trying to please their parents or impress some girl or whatnot). Although, you're right, the bible doesn't lay out such strict requirements. In fact, there are examples where apostles come across people and "what's to stop me from being baptized right now?" That's not necessarily an illegitimate baptism. But it's also not necessarily as meaningful of a baptism.
How you know JWs are wrong: they got their god's name wrong! There is no "j" sound in Hebrew. And modern scholars agree that the likeliest correct pronunciation of the tetragrammaton is "Yahweh".
On top of that, the vowels they chose come from Adonai, the word Jews used to AVOID saying God’s name. It’s hilariously false, and yet unfortunately my grandparents and many more around the world believe them.
I will argue on that: It is the English pronunciation of God's name. We do not speak Hebrew therefore we do not use Hebrew pronunciation. Just like we say Jesus, Joshua, Jehu, and also like we call Deutshland Germany and Nippon is Japan. This forcing of people to pronounce as if they are native speakers of a foreign language is a recent invention.
It is worse than that. There are a lot of Spanish speakers who are JW. They change it for Spanish. They even have it both ways on the same building. Jajaja Btw, that is Spanish for hahaha
Can confirm. I was 16. And they don’t just baptize children, they contractually obligate these children to adhere to their tenants whether they truly and absolutely understand what they are getting into or not. Failure to strictly adhere to these tenants may result in expulsion and subsequent shunning by the entire group up to and including your own parents and your own siblings. No, you don’t sign a paper. What you do is you stand up along with everybody who is a candidate for baptism and you answer yes to three questions that amount to a contract stating that you have now agreed to be one of Jehovah’s witnesses and accept everything that goes along with it. Warts and all. When you are in adult in your 20s, or older, I think the import of this sinks in a lot better. When you’re a kid, all you know is you are making your parents happy and what you are doing is dedicating yourself to God. That’s it. All the other stuff just doesn’t cross your mind. I speak from personal experience as someone who was baptized as a teenager. I can’t imagine how little of this is absorbed by a seven-year-old child.
This is very accurate besides one thing. Children can be baptized, but there is a process that everyone must follow in order to be baptized. There are no babies being baptized though, I assure you. I know they have something sort of like Easter, only because I worked at a school they rented the auditorium of for this service. Very well attended. Weird thing was they were willing to pay staff to not enter during their services.
It’s the yearly celebration of the Lord supper. Weird that they paid your staff not to come in. I would’ve thought they would’ve been all about that. They want as many people to attend as possible.
Could you clarify what you mean by "paying staff?" All Jehovah's Witnesses are 100% voluntary. We don't have any paid staff ever. We might rent a convention center or stadium for big conventions, but any of our staff is voluntary. But yeah, we acknowledge Jesus' death and resurrection, of course. But the only religious tradition we find obligatory is observing the memorial of the last supper (the night before his death) due to Luke 22:19. Different people may ALSO observe this in other ways... some may keep this passage in mind ANY time they drink or eat, reminding themselves that AS important as feeding your physical body might be, keeping what God accomplished by sending his Son to die for us is just as vital, and should always be on our minds. But, that's not a "requirement." Likewise, we don't have a problem with biblical holidays (see Leviticus 23). These feasts and fasts had meaning in the Hebrew scriptures already, but also Jesus dying to fulfil passover, then rising on the day of firstfruits, then giving out the holy spirit on pentacost... all leviticus 23 holidays. Then there's the feast of trumpets and day of atonement (which we hope will have a greater fulfillment soon). These are all fine holidays to keep in mind... but we aren't Jews in Israel with a temple and a priesthood, so we're not going to be making animal sacrifices or whatnot.

The name Jehovah is actually a mistake. The tetragrammon, or the four consonants for the name of God (YHWH or JHWH) which occurs in the Jewish scriptures is never uttered. Instead, a replacement is spoken, Adoni, which means Lord. Later Hebrew scriptures inserted the vowels for Adoni into the four consonants. Early translators misunderstood this and what probably should have been Yahweh or Jahweh became Jehovah. Note that there isn't any O in Yahweh but there is in Adoni. Also the leading Y could also be a leading J. Net, net, there never was a word Jehovah.
On January 21, 2018, Bible Scholar Nehemia Gordon and his team of researchers discovered the 1,000th Hebrew Bible manuscript containing the original name of God in Hebrew with vowels. For two hundred years, scholars have believed based on Greek sources and conjecture that the Hebrew name of God was originally pronounced “Yahweh.” In late 2016, Gordon found never-translated traditional Jewish sources that explicitly identified the vowels of God’s name in Hebrew as “Yehovah.” This is similar to the English Jehovah, but with a “Y” and the emphasis on the final syllable. - Religion News Service
No, it's Jewish tradittion to replace with Adoni, but the name would be pronounced Jehovah, Jehovah, Yahweh, something like that, if the Jews did say it. "Jehovah" is a decent guess, but since Hebrew has no written vowels, nor the letter J, but does pronounce them, it's hard to be sure.
While Yahweh is probably the closest to how the deity's name was originally pronounced by the Judean worshippers who we now consider the precursors to the Jews, it is possible that there were variations back then. The religious elites who came up with the Tetragrammaton were possibly thinking of a slightly different pronounciation. Alephbet letters actually all have specific trailing vowel or pseudo-vowel sounds built in, and we know that on proto-Hebrew these sounds were fixed into words constructed with the specific letters. So, yod-hay-waw-hay may have been intended to be read as Yodhwawh originally.
@@aivomand7076 Haven't researched this lately but does top Jewish scholars think this Gordon fellow is right. Last I heard, no.

Ask them about Beth Sarim, the house Hayes built for Elijah, who he prophesied would return before 1950.

In very rare cases
@@Vm16002 no it’s just a thing. Plus it shouldn’t be happening at all
And such young ones are shunned, thrown out into the street once they make a mistake and are disciplined by the congregation.
From one of Jehovah's Witnesses, I appreciate that you can present a view that contradicts your own without getting derogatory. Thank you. However, I'd want to add a bit of comment:
1- I appreciate the opening, that Russell was just a guy with a publishing company.
For example:
Watchtower March 15, 1957, “Did Christ Die on a Cross?”, wol.jw.org/en/wol/d/r1/lp-e/1957201 "Clearly there is no Scriptural support for the traditional cross as a symbol of Christianity. "
For #5 Watchtower February 15, 1981, “How Real is God to You?”, wol.jw.org/en/wol/d/r1/lp-e/1981122
Actually, by teaching that God is omnipresent Christendom has confused matters and made it more difficult for God to be real to his worshipers.

OF course, the congregation is still human, and any advice they give is just advice to be given prayerful consideration while trusting in God... not "unquestionable obedience" to people.
Exactly the quick explanation I was looking for - thank you!

I can’t imagine what it must be like to be trapped in something like that, or be disowned by your family for trying to think objectively and search for truth. Poor souls.
Absolutely. Also any negative news about the cult they are told not to look.
You said "They are literally forbidden from reading anything that opposes or criticizes the Society?"
If it comes from known apostates, yes. You can probably show me nothing about JW that I have not seen before, whether true or false.
Much of it is like this: Matt 11:18 Likewise, John came neither eating nor drinking, but people say, ‘He has a demon.’ 19 The Son of man did come eating and drinking, but people say, ‘Look! A man who is a glutton and is given to drinking wine, a friend of tax collectors and sinners.’ All the same, wisdom is proved righteous by its works.”
This is how the communist regimes of the early 20th century operated (and how North Korea still operates!).
Finally, I feel that the society is really doing its members a disservice, especially in this age of the internet where so much information is available to anybody at all who wants to look for it. An overstatement to be sure. They give reasons for caution. But this "forbidding" and "prohibit" language is extreme and false.

??? And you think this is only positive? Is Satan misleading the entire inhabited Earth?
Your channel is Important God bless you
Here's the most succinct differentiation between Jehovah's Witnesses and mainstream Christianity:
Jehovah's Witnesses believe the Father alone is God (John 17:3, 1 Corinthians 8:6, and the entire Hebrew bible). And that it's important to know that he has a personal name (Exodus 3:15 and Jeremiah 16:21). (Although we're not picky about different dialects pronouncing it differently)
We believe Jesus is the only-begotten son of God, our messiah, lord, king, and high priest to his God and ours.
John 1:1 "in the beginning was the word, and the word was with God, and the word was God." Jesus to the people, "before Abraham was, I am."
Arianism has already been wiped out. Why did you guys bring it back?
As to hell, Mathew 8 v "12 But the subjects of the kingdom will be thrown outside, into the darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.” sounds like a literal hell, doesn't it?

There are a couple of very important bullet points that you forgot:
- Shunning means it is forbidden for any Jehova's Witness to have any contact with you which means you will lose all family and friends.

The only things that bothers me of them is that only 144k will be saved. Why would say so if Jesus died for our sins?

@@Hun_UinaqWell other churches baptise babies…

Might want to do more digging into that whole Balfour thing...most actual Christians have been deceived by it as well.

While it is true that people make quick judgements easily and perhaps unfairly, denying the trinity and still claiming to be Christian just discourages people from hearing them out. It's sort of like denying the virgin birth of Christ or the incarnation.
Well, due to yet another change in your THEOLGY, we can now be saved into paradise right through Armageddon.

Jesus' following words gave that sign, and it has been fulfilled since 1914. Also the 7 times prophesy in Daniel directly pointed to 1914 as the end of the gentile times.
@@777Tralfaz777
Nothing you said is evidence. All you're doing is repeating the script WT has given you. Quoting random scriptures, then making wild assertions about them isn't evidence, either.
*"the 7 times prophesy in Daniel directly pointed to 1914"*
Really?

JWs, Mormons, 7 the Days and several other groups were all formed within a 500 mile radius in Northern, western New York.

“Ye shall not add unto the word which I command you, neither shall ye diminish ought from it, that ye may keep the commandments of the Lord your God which I command you.” (Deut. 4:2.)
This is really cool. In regards to baptism, they do baptize young kids under the age of 16. So baptism is not only for adults.

Jehovah witnesses baptized children, the youngest baptized in their publication is 6 yrs. Most baptized at the age of 12 - 18 yrs.

Jesus said: “Truly I say to you, no one has left house or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or fields for my sake and for the sake of the good news30 who will not get 100 times more now in this period of time-houses, brothers, sisters, mothers, children, and fields, with persecutions-and in the coming system of things, everlasting life.

What Jesus Christ said would happen, is really happening!

God gave us His word so we would not be deceived.
Witnesses allow someone to put the NWT into their hands, and have traded the word of God for the ever changing word of Watchtower.

2:50 The Jews and early Christians were monolatrists. As the angels are called "elohim" in the Psalms. Even the judges of Israel are called gods, by God Himself. Jesus is a god in this manner. A god that serves his God and Father, Jehovah.
5:22 Where does the Bible say Jesus was created in God's image? (Colossians 1:15) He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation;
Can you think of someone else who was created in God's image?
6:00 Who was John the Baptist preparing the way for? For the Messiah that Jehovah sent them. Also, the "way of Jehovah" is how the people were to walk. Example: 2 Kings 21:22 So he abandoned Jehovah the God of his forefathers, and he did not walk in *the way of Jehovah.*
7:00 Jesus is the firstborn of all creation, and hence preeminent as well. Just like the firstborn of the Israelites were literally first, and preeminent among the siblings.
Jesus is also: (Revelation 3:14) “To the angel of the congregation in La·o·di·ceʹa write: These are the things that the Amen says, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of the creation by God:
Now I am sure you can do another lengthy post to change the meaning of beginning.
He is also "only begotten".
Strongs 3439 Transliteration: monogenés
Definition: only begotten
From monos: Definition: alone
and genos: Definition: family, offspring
genos is from ginomai: Definition: to come into being, to happen, to become
Hence, the "only offspring" directly from Jehovah.
The "only" "to come into being" from Jehovah. As all other thing came to being *through* Jesus.
Col 1:16 ...All other things have been created *through* him and for him.
John 1:3 All things came into existence *through* him, and apart from him not even one thing came into existence. Jesus being the obvious exception.
(1 Corinthians 8:6) there is actually to us one God, the Father, from whom all things are and we for him; and there is one Lord, Jesus Christ, *through* whom all things are and we through him.
7:54 1 John 5:20 But we know that the Son of God has come, and he has given us insight *so that we may gain the knowledge of the one who is true.* And we are in union with the one who is true, by means of his Son Jesus Christ. *This is the true God and life everlasting.*
_The one Jesus explained to us, who is true, was Jesus Father. That is the true God._

@larysnw418Go to JWfacts.
I grew up as a JW. I would agree with all of this but I would clarify the point about God is not everywhere. If God is the power-plant then the Holy Spirit is the power lines. That’s how god reaches everywhere.
well said
As shown in your other video I know you aren't the biggest fan of the organisation, so it's great to see an unbiased, neutral presentation of our doctrine.
That’s because he didn’t grow up in it and he didn’t see the ugly side that none of you see unless you come face-to-face with it. enjoy your kool-Aid
You believe in some wack doctrine...... don't need any bias to understand that.
Here is the problem with the teachings from Watchtower...
None of them can be found in scripture..
@@mattmurdock2868 ...could you please give me an example of what they teach that can not be found in the bible?
@@mattmurdock2868 your statement is easily proven false. They base a ton of their teachings on scripture. It’s just that their interpretation of scripture has some twists that mini find rather odd. If it didn’t have any scriptural basis, they wouldn’t be able to attract believers.
So in short. It’s a bit goofy
What do you specifically find "goofy"?
One time the Jehovah Witnesses came to my house and talked to me. but at the same time, the Mormons came to my house. I let both of them in. They did not try to save me, but did argue with each other. I did not join either one.
Sorry but every point I was like, No. Not to what you said but how they can hold to such unorthodox and unhistorical doctrines. They actually believe Jesus is Michael the archangel and believe only in a spiritual Resurrection of Christ, they deny the physical resurrection of Jesus! How can a spirit that has no location resurrect?
Now you have to do Mormons lol
Very fair. Great summary
@@morielrorschach8090 Sure, I was contract staff required by local ordinances at the school. There was also school staff and one other similar contractor that were there. I got there had to do a quick inspection of an area and was met by a church member, who walked me through, showed me the steps they had taken in my area of responsibility and said he was sorry they had to pay for me and asked politely if I and the rest of the staff would stay out of the auditorium while they conducted their service.
@@Booger414 Aha, that makes more sense.
We TRY to maintain a reputation for respecting spaces we rent and leaving them cleaner than we find them.
Of course, the "stay out of the auditorium" isn't for secrecy or anything. If you wanted to attend in the audience, I'm sure you'd have been welcome... They just didn't want people working as it could be a distraction.
They clean up after themselves?
At this point that yw oranization is fake...in our organization anyone, even not part of us is welcome if they are interested and wish to know more...
Can you tell me why they don't believe in the things stated?

I am a JW, God is a Divine Being who created Jesus of Nazareth and the Spirit works in various ways.
I would ask you to consider these verses:
John 5:22
Matthew 16:27
Revelation 22:20
Revelation 22:12-13
Isaiah 44:6
Jude 1:25
Psalms 102:24-27
Hebrews 1:6-12
Isaiah 44:24
Job 9:8
In other words: they are lost souls
Both the JW cult and the Catholic one agree that "jehovah" was first recorded in 1270 by a Catholic monk.

When we were kids, my cousins and I would play a game called "Slam the door on the Jehovah Witness" 😂😂
My mom as a kid had a dog who could sniff a JW and bark and growl if they came near the door. 😂😂
@TropicalPower Jehovah also appears once in the Bible, even in Jewish Bibles. It's then Jehovah Witnesses who are taking God's name in vain.
@TropicalPower I changed my comment to reflect we were referring to Jehovah Witnesses knocking at our door as children and not God 😊
@TropicalPower I actually have a copy of the Jewish Bible and no it does not appear 6,828 times. In the KJV it appears 7, and fewer in the Orthodox Jewish Bible. The name YHWH is only used with true reverence in Judiasm and by the early Christians, the proper pronunciation is lost to us.
That is why, I am correcting your ignorance. I personally avoid the use of YHWH when I can to show proper reverence to the Lord because reverence draws upon my love and faith for Jesus Christ.
@TropicalPower I did because the KJV had corrections. I realize you are hurt as a JW but you are wrong.
So enlightening. Thank you.
I hope this reaches my girl and her family more
I am agnostic but was raised JW and have a continued fascination with religion. Excellent summary, and impressively concise. While I am not religious myself, I still maintain that the JWs have a closely-read legalistic interpretation of the Bible that seems more accurate to what that book says than what most other denominations proclaim.
None of the teachings from Watchtower can be found in scripture...
@@mattmurdock2868 You can disagree with the interpretations, sure, but for every one of their teachings, they provide Bible verses to support them.

The Bible will not support their beliefs.
Bible =Word of God.
NWT=ever changing word of Watchtower.
It is not a matter of "interpretation," Watchtower has written a "bible" promoting the god they have created for themselves.
All of the teachings from Watchtower can be easily debunked with scripture.
When the "scholars" at Watchtower tried to "restore God's name," they created a theological disaster!
Consequently, none of the teachings from Watchtower can be found in scripture.
They have their own doctrines and beliefs, and have created a kingdom for the god they have created to rule over them.
This video was much better than the 142 differences video. JW believe what the Bible says. For instance, trinity was first mentioned. JW do not believe the trinity because it did not come from the Bible, but from men.
The one thing I learned very quickly from conversations with JWs is that they do NOT Witness to you for your sake. They Witness to you for THEIRSELVES in order to gain points from their Elders…
That may be your perception. No JW will tell you that, or believes that. We believe it is a life saving work. Our goal is to be whole hearted toward God, not to be pleasers of men, like "their Elders".
Jesus said go and make disciples, and that is our goal.
