After shooting with the Q2 now Q3 28mm for years, now that I’ve trained myself on it, I can’t let go of that 28mm focal length. The Q3 28 can, if I compose correctly, get me great 35mm crops and a good 50mm crop (like 18.9 MP worth in camera). For EDC and storytelling, the 43mm is lovely but inadequate for my stuff. So, you guys nailed it.

Excellent review as always! I purchased the Q3 28mm after I received solid advice from H. I was considering the 43mm but after I was reminded that that my Voightlander 50mm 1.0 does the job of the 43, the 28 was the right choice. I took the Q3 and Zf to San Fran and NY and loved using both of them! Looking forward to the next office hours and next year's workshops! Thank you Rick and Mr. H!!!Love this channel!!!

Good discussion, think you captured the essence of the Q cameras. Always other ways to capture the images, but these bring together a fairly unique combination. For me the 43 is perfect, albeit somewhat unexpected - off and on had tried to purchase a q3 (28) since a couple of months after launch, to no avail. Btw ags supply (dba analogous, ironically also in portland) offers a high quality, machined 10mm black plate to replace the red dot, fixes the only thing I didn't like about this camera.

Great review and discussion on the three/ok five cameras! And such great images! I'm loving my Q3 as you said I would. And I won't divulge here what else I'm now carrying in my kit as I don't want to be labeled. 🤣 But suffice to say I've drastically reduced my kit size and weight and love my decisions. And that's what counts. Thanks. Oh and your settings files were a great help and start for me. But I've found that I can now tweak them so quickly myself it's very satisfying. See you on 17th, and then at DV workshop!

Like you, I find the Zf with the Vlander 50mm 1.0 a hard to beat combo! Took me a bit to learn how to maximize the manual focus assist tools…and to recognize lighting situations that might cause CA with the lens wide open…..but I’m glad I stuck with it…I don’t see the need for a Q yet because there are so many fun lens options (Nikon and others) to explore. Hoping the Nikon 35mm f1.2 comes out soon…it might give me all the fun I need…and push me away from a q3 28!

I bought the Q3 43 with the intention of trading in my Q2 Monochrom but have ended up keeping both (for now) as they are both great cameras and I just can't let go of the Q2M. For the lens cap, I find it difficult to source the Match Technical solution here in Europe and have gone with the dutch made Otect Q-Cap for the Q2M and will probably use the same brand for the Q3 43 when they bring it out in January as it works very well, you might want to check it out as an alternative for folks who find the Match Technical cap hard to get hold of. Love the channel and would love to join one of your workshops over this side of the pond.

I have a chance to buy the Q3 28 used with a couple of accessories for $3500. It has a couple of blemishes. On the top plate is a coating mark that only shows up at certain angles. The more troublesome blemish is on the top of the flippy screen with the paint scraping off from the action of moving the screen in and out. Have you Hudson or anyone else experienced this? And is the camera still worth it for $3500?

Let's hope that these fixed lens Q cameras' success (along with the Sony RX1 you mention briefly) will inspire manufacturers to offer more options in the near future. I tried the Nikon ZF but the less-than-good ergonomics, heavy weight and less than straightforward means to change settings prompted me to return it (keep with my Z6ii) and save my money for that hoped-for future compact offering.

The 43 mm version felt more like a hype, an experience that had never been had before, there is no Q2/Q in 43mm. If there is a Q4 43 at some point, it will get less attention. Everyone wanted more focal length than 28 mm (Leica has fulfilled this) and now you can see that 28 mm is the perfect focal length for this camera. I bought my Q3 28 mm in May this year and have now had it in Barcelona, Venice, Lake Garda and Thailand and have taken several portraits with the Q3 and I love the 28 mm..

Shorter big city trips in Europe. Family, grandchildren and food. I don`t do the typical street photos but shooting the people, surroundings during my trips.
