For us, Chileans, this story is special. The rescue of the Endurance team was a challenge in itself. In Chile, the operation, commanded by the Captain Luis Pardo in the ship Yelcho, is considered a historic feat.
I read this book in middle school, just stumbled on it in the library. I remember being amazed at the endurance of those guys, fitting that's the name of the ship.
The third man with Shakleton and Worsley who traversed south Georgia was Tom Crean and Irish man from Co. kerry. He had been involved in 3 other antarctic expeditions before the Endurance including Scotts attempt to reach the South Pole in 1912. The Unsung hero- Tom Crean is a great book if you want to know more about him. Loved the video!
I saw IMAX movie about Shackleton 20 years ago in Valencia, Spain and never forgot their story of surviving Antarctica. Thank you for this high quality and amazingly researched video. ❤
my eyes grew watery as i sat watching this, learning how these brave men defied every odd with nothing but willpower and wits, and imagining how distraught and hopeless i would've felt in their place.
This is the most incredible story I've ever heard, I don't believe there are any humans left on earth that could even survive a fraction of that time enduring what they did, truly inspirational.
I did a project/presentation on this in grade school, and it’s remained one of my favorite stories of the human spirit ever since. Great videos, love this channel.
These videos are so incredibly well made that I went to your page thinking you'd already made a million others! Just subscribed and can't wait to see what else you put out! 😄🙏🙏
I watched this when it came out and am shocked to see how (comparatively) few views it’s gotten since then. Really great and underrated video on a very cool topic.
How are you having just 2k views with that videographic production level and storytelling skills 😮 I enjoy your work; greetings from Germany. You'll go places
Awesome video on one of my favorite topics. Also great production quality and that background! I wish I had that incredible map as a backdrop for my office!
wow, excellent video - I got chills so many times - very well done - I got to learn about Shackleton more deeply - and how cool is it that you got to see his grave?
Gerard! He's such a good speaker about this. He was one of the speakers on my recent Ross Sea expedition. It's such an amazing story, from both sides! I hear that Nat Geo has the video images from that sub expedition, I hope they put them out soon.
Kiff telling of the tale ✨✨✨I used to go for walks here in Cape Town just to go stare at the Agulhas II and dream of sailing to Antarctica..however when I would bump into people who worked onboard I started thinking twice...even with modern luxuries, spending months at sea sounds like it can take a toll on you.
I love maps and I love Antarctica, so I'm excited to have found your channel. For anyone reading this, RUN, do not walk, to your nearest library to read Endurance by Alfred Lansing. Every time I flipped the page, I thought, "OMG. It can't get any worse than this." Then it does, and it's incredible they survived. (p.s. The book about the Ross Sea party is called The Lost Men by Kelly Tyler-Lewis.)
oh my, I feel like the video has some Johnny Harris's blessings to it. It would be even more awesome if there's a video with similar editing about Ho Chi Minh City, yes.
I worked in dog sled racing and the level of abuse is insane. I point to these expeditions as an example of the brutality of this form of dog sledding.
Most videos of this high quality seem to be propaganda attempting at shape political or religious views. (Looking at you Johnny Harris) This guys just make super interesting videos on interesting and inspiring stories. Keep at it, this is amazing!
The fact that Tom Creen’s name is not mentioned in this is a travesty. Shackleton would have been dead long before any of this without Creen. Read “Unsung Hero” if you want to know more.
It is baffling that there was absolutely no mention of Luis Pardo and the Yelcho's rescue expedition of the Endurance Crew, it's insulting how it's just glossed over like that when the Yelcho's crew willingly sailed into the deadly waters to Elephant Island. Is it right to give no mention of those who put their lives at such risk?
Before sailing to Elephant island in the patrol ship Yelcho, Pardo sent this letter to his father: _"The task is great, but nothing frightens me: for I'm a Chilean. Two considerations make the face these dangers: to save the explorers and to give glory to Chile. I'll be happy if I can achieve in what others have not. If I fail and die, you must take care of my Laura and my children, who will be left without any support except yours. If I succeed, I will have done my humanitarian duty as a mariner and as a Chilean. When you read this letter, your son will be dead or will have arrived at Punta Arenas with the castaways. I will not return alone."_
11:27 South Georgia or Elephant island?
*Elephant Island! I said it wrong 🫢

I read this book in middle school, just stumbled on it in the library. I remember being amazed at the endurance of those guys, fitting that's the name of the ship.
I can’t imagine going through what they did
I just finished the book. It’s unbelievable how they survived.
How’s the book called?
I need to understand how anyone can live for 2 years under a boat in the snow waiting and hoping for Shackleton to return

His name should be Frank Bestley!
Those men were built different. And I will say unashamed, God guided and saved them.
no one is doing it like Daniel is these days
What happened to the aurora and her crew?
The fact that Tom Creen’s name is not mentioned in this is a travesty. Shackleton would have been dead long before any of this without Creen.
Read “Unsung Hero” if you want to know more.
It’s a great video but Creen really deserved to be mentioned.
No mention of Tom Crean nor of Luis Pardo, absolutely baffling
Horray!
Back when Britian was still a world leader.
bro. hooolyyyy shit!

I woulda died.
Ahahaha I woulda laid down and died too
that's nothing compared to the polaris expedition lol
Ahhh. No footage. No proof. Big 🧢
