  • I used to have one of these as a teen. This one is serious nostalgia for me. I never did get mine going that well though. The car always under-steered, I lost the wing so many times and I ended up carrying it 90% more than driving it (Ni-Cad batteries probably lasted 10 minutes all in).

The Turbo Ultima I believe had a thicker chassis with countersunk holes except for the servo mounts and was an off silver color. The Ultima had a thinner chassis without countersunk holes and was silver. The new chassis you have appears to be for an Ultima not a Turbo Ultima. Great videos!

Hi, one of my unicorn which I eventually acquired recently. For sure the original Turbo Ultima came with Platinum shocks and the TOMS with gold shocks. To bring yours to full original Turbo Ultima will require some works (and maybe 💰); at least the body is quite great and you already have the Platinum. I wish you good luck 🤞 Cheers 👍🤝

Yes genuine old vintage shell with wear and tear is better than a new shiney repo any day 👍

Its always best to trial fit the Re-re parts to the older chassis, or indeed the rest of the model. The Re-re had a lot of re-engineered parts, and included interlocking or overlapping parts as you observed with the rear shock tower. The Re-re red shocks were also longer and wider than the vintage units, so there's differences there as well, which translates to the new Rr-re towers being taller. The older chassis had a yellow'ish tinge compared to the 2019 units, that have a proper silver/aluminium finish. Also, your assumption about the wheels was correct, the Turbo came with the slotted wheel style, as seen on the original Ultima Pro, Pro XL, Turbo Ultima 2 and Ultima 2. The front bulkhead is compatible, its re-engineered to have more plastic at points where the old bulkhead would break or split, and the arms have more meat on them too. You might as well go whole hog and get the arms and front bulkhead. Great video thanks for sharing.

Nice buggy. Looks to have a few parts from the various Ultima models. The silver chassis is much thinner and weaker then the platinum version. Shock towers look aftermarket or handmade? I just wonder if the buggy was an Ultima that someone converted to a Turbo Ultima. Does it have dog bone axles or universals? Great example of a survivor and what we did to these cars back in the day! My first high end RC was the the Turbo Ultima...love them.
