I just got a 65 C1 a couple of weeks ago for my HTPC. Beautiful screen. Unbelievable. Couple of things I’ve learned. I could be wrong but… You need at least a 20 series Nvidia card (HDMI 2.0) to use G-sync but it’ll be limited to 4k 60Hz. Not a big deal for me currently as I’m using a 2080ti/8700k and in a game like FarCry 6. That’s about all you can get with most of the eye candy turned up anyway. You may be able to squeeze a few more frames out with a faster CPU. You do need to setup G-Sync in the Nvidia control panel like any G-Sync/Free Sync panel. As well as choose a PC specific resolution for the 120hz option to be available. If G-Sync doesn’t show up it’s because you don’t have a compatible card or your trying to run your compatible card through an AVR via HDMI. Even with an AVR with HDMI 2.0. There might be a work around for using G-Sync with a home theater by using eARC. If you want 4k 120hz you need a 30 series card (HDMI 2.1) I have another 3080ti on the way and I don’t really expect it to be able to run games at 4k 120 fps. I currently have a 3080ti/5900x in my sim racing pc and it’s a beast of a combination but not enough for 4k 120 with eye candy turned up. Finally you need the proper HDMI cables.

Hi Karl. I have an earlier model of LG OLED, the OLED55B8S, and it’s a superb TV. Its mainly used for gaming as there’s nothing on TV worth watching!! So gaming as in, PS4/PS5. I’ve mostly played GT Sport on it and my son has played Fortnite and other games on it. But, a word of caution, the extent of the gaming on the TV has caused burn-in. There are faint residual images now where static images in Fortnite are located, and similar for the rev counter etc. in GT Sport. So the panel is ruined basically. That’s after about 2 years of use. So LG might bill these as gaming TV’s, but to what level do they class as reasonable gaming time to avoid burn-in?
I don't run static images mate so it's not a concern for me, but maybe this current model doesn't suffer in the same way older models do (it does have preventative measures built in) only time will tell?!
@@KarlGosling Looking forward to how you get on with them. The C1 was going to be my next TV for 120Hz for the PS5. But…due to the screen burn I’ve experienced on a previous model, I’m not so sure now. Sadly very few games allow the removal of static content.
Great review brother. One question: for sim don't you think the higher the Frame Rate the better? I was under the impression one would need a 165Hz or more Frame Rate, what's your take on the topic?
Definitely not mate, maybe the best sim racers in the world would notice a difference but for us normal people 120fps is plenty, I don't even really notice dropping to 60fps.... input lag/latency on the other hand is very important!
I have the LG CX which is identical to the C1 and have had it for a year. I use it for PC gaming, sim racing, music production, video editing, work and general PC use. The TV is on for several hours a day. I have ZERO burn-in. 4K 120hz OLED with G-Sync is absolutely glorious. I ended up selling my other monitors because once you see OLED you simply can’t go back to LCD. It’s worth every penny.
It's not an issue for me mate, I don't have any static images, no HUD. But I probably wouldn't use it as a monitor, although as Becks says it's not really an issue these days, certainly if you leave the protection features on.
@@KarlGosling There is definitely some mixed results with burn in. LG and others claim there's no issue if you leave protection features on, but some users still end up with burn-in regardless particularly when used as a PC monitor. I think for most users burn-in won't be an issue. But if you're a niche usecase you may want to be wary.
Yes you can but it looks awful for sim racing! lol Ultrawide screens need to be flat or very close to flat or you get warping and stretching of the image, take a look at my Dirt Rally 2.0 triple setup video as that treats them a one big ultrawide.
@@KarlGosling that sounds quite immersive! Its also in line with my experience - i’ve found that at roughly 1.5x height of a 16:9 display is the sweet spot for sim racing or immersive fps. Congrats again for the awesome setup!
For sim racing I'm currently sitting just 65cm from my 65" OLED to get the extra bit of FOV. If I had triples I would definitely enjoy being able to move it back. For FPS I would sit much further away but now play those on a high refresh monitor. My OLED is only 60hz.
@@kompleat wow! Thats some extreme immersion 😊 I guess you also adjust the fov in game to make it wider? otherwise i assume you would get some motion sickness. I never could stay that close… how is pixelation at that distance?
@@alext4327 Haha. I actually use modern FOV calculator and stick to read is "correct". (HFOV 96, VFOV 64) It makes it so things are the correct size. I think that's why motion sickness isn't an issue. In FPS games I would definitely get nauseous at anything near that close. I really wonder if that is due to not having correct FOV in other games (have not experimented) and very likely is also because my OLED is only 60Hz. I think 120+ would help for when the display takes up so much FOV. Even at such close distance pixelation isn't tooo bad (here's where 8k would be nice), except in ACC. I think it's ACCs temporal antialiasing that causes that blurry ghosting effect in some areas. It's not ideal since the screen has to be higher than I'd like it, being partially over the wheel base, in contact with the center (simucube2). I have to adjust the in game height quite a bit and you end up with so much of the upper screen being just the interior roof of the car. The width is good, though. Triples further away would be much more ideal.. one day. I have and like VR but the image quality on the OLED is just so much better.
Hello , can anyone share some advice with me please, I have a ps4 pro and looking to update my tv. Which is better a tv or monitor for the ps4 pro please? Many thanks
@@KarlGosling Ok if you could only have one then? I've tried the quest 2 (rtx 2070super) but wasn't that great a picture or framerate (Asseto Corsa). plus I use a head tracker on Monitor/Tv so can still look around but at full resolution. Im getting rtx3080 and wondered if the quest 2 would be better than the the LG OLED C1 as I've heard VR are only really good for about an hours worth of racing and most people use monitors for dedicated gaming.
They are great TV's. I got a 48" one. But triple isn't possible because my graphics card only has one hdmi 2.1 out. I'd need to get two additional Gigabyte 48" OLEDs for that because unlike the LG, Gigabyte also have displayport inputs.
You can't NOT use one remote with multiple LG oled screens 🙂. Can be an issue if you're just trying to change one, when you have to hold the remote close to the IR receiver and use your hand to mask the IR signal from the others. Minor problem though for a brilliant sim display (I'm using LG48CX rather than C1).
One of my three remotes turns all TV's on/off, another actually fully operates all three simultaneously and the third remote only operates the TV it came with.
Would i be able to run this on a 2080 super and i9-9900 with decent settings? That res would seem like a gpu killer lol. Any frames testing so see what you get with respective speced PC'?
@@KarlGosling Yes sorry, i should have mentioned i plan on just one of them. Either the 48 or the 55. Looking at this option or a ultra wide monitor. I just wouldnt think id break 60pfs in 4k on the LG with what I have but maybe so.
The crazy thing about LG's OLEDs is that they're televisions and yet put almost any monitor on the market completely to shame. TVs used to be garbage compared to monitors, and now they're better!? Monitor manufacturers (including LG's own monitors, hah!) have been sleeping, with new tech coming out faster than they can add it, yet LG's OLEDs have pretty much everything, all in one place. Lots of new 2021 monitors still don't even support the latest HDMI standard, FGS. Of course, OLED wouldn't be ideal for desktop use, but it's annoying there's not really anything as good in that space. I've got an older LG OLED as my TV, and I game on that, but I've been waiting for over 5 years for a monitor that's actually worth upgrading to for my desktop PC upstairs.
TV's do not come with DP IME, you'll only find that on monitors, presumably because only PC's use DP, game consoles, Sky boxes, Blu-ray players etc. are all HDMI so there's no call for it.
@@goldengraeme1918 why mate? Only PC's use DP and thats a tiny part of the market, plus HDMI 2.1 will probably replace DP going forwards, next gen cards I'm guessing will only have one DP and three HDMI 2.1 ports as they have greater bandwidth and are far more common to find... at least thats my thoughts, who actually knows?! :)
Rather have raised blacks than burn in and image retention, which undoubtedly is an issue on any oled TV right now. Linus Tech Tips has screen burn/image retention after just a couple months on his screen. Until they figure that out, or you have money to burn, STAY AWAY from oled!
Yes, this is what happens if you use an OLED TV as a desktop monitor for 8+ hours a day, not at all what it's designed for and quite a silly thing to do IMO... choose the right tool for the job. I've ran plasma TV's as games and sim displays for the last 10 years without any burn in (I still have them here now in fact!) you just need to bare in mind the limitations of what you are using and you will be fine :) Of course only time will really tell with these current OLED screens so we'll see in a year or two :)
@@KarlGosling I agree I know people who still have the gran turismo rev counters burnt into their screens, this is why gaming is also a problem, especially in long races, any kind of HUD is a problem and it's having to baby something you've paid good money for that I just can not deal with. Micro led is the future but it's a way off until it's affordable.
Nice screens, but why not curved LG? And I guess you already found out that ACC will be unplayable in 3x4k. It can't even render the mirror without dropping 30% frames🤣Physics are shiiit as well.
Curved screens warp the image, there's no in game geometric correction for that. Yeah I'm running them at 1440p and get around 90fps on ultra settings.
@@KarlGosling I never noticed any of that and it's IMO made up BS by people with flat displays. Certainly not a thing with the typical R1000 49" single-screen curved displays within the reach of your hand. If you look at your flat display from close distance, especially the top and bottom frame is curved/distorted from your perception and a curved display is correcting this like the lenses in VR-headsets, so the image you observe is more straight rectangular than with a flat display. And the best image of any screen is when you look straight parallel at it. If you move your head 30° you usually get reflections and more flat colours on flat displays. The OLED does probably better with it (?) and if you put three huge screens further away, this all doesn't matter. It matters if you want one big screen close to your eyes to get a high FOV. I was using a 55" TV less than 70 cm distance for years and I can't recommend it (not only) because it was flat. When I bought it there were curved 4k-TVs around and I regret I didn't spent the 200 bucks more for a curved one.
@@Leynad778 it's not BS mate, it's simple physics, any flat image taken an then curved will warp to some degree... whether it's very noticeable will depend on the curve itself and whether you care or not will be down to the individual... but sims that support triple screens for example all have the correct variables for showing a 1:1 with real life geometrically correct image so I (and most people) will always want to have that setup correctly if we can :)
@@KarlGosling I made the mistake buying a flat TV because people repeating this, which is just not true in practice because eyes don't work like this. If you are close enough to your big TV display so you can touch it, head around the center, the top is not really looking straight, but it looks like it bends upwards from your peripheral perception (Pincushion distortion). You know it doesn't, but it's not looking straight for sure. A slightly curved display is correcting this more than distorting the image and is certainly far more convenient for your eyes and immersive than a flat screen. You adjust the curving with some higher hFOV and it's fine. Maybe the G9 has already too much curving, but owners doesn't complain and the typical R1000 49"-displays are more natural than flatscreens and very popular in e-sport for that reason as well. I'm using mostly TrackIR and works like VR in 2D.
@@Leynad778 it's probably not too bad with one fairly small screen (you have to remember these are 55"), but I have three and everything must be geometrically correct, I've had very recent experience with curved displays that are not as you might have seen in some of my video's and it's horrible to use.
These displays are amazing. My dad just got a 77" C1 for his theater and the picture is stunning.
Really looking forward to seeing the finished product. Considering buying these to set up a second rig if there's no issues with burn-in.

@@KarlGosling Looking forward to how you get on with them. The C1 was going to be my next TV for 120Hz for the PS5. But…due to the screen burn I’ve experienced on a previous model, I’m not so sure now.
Sadly very few games allow the removal of static content.
@@AL71B Ah yeah on PS5, thankfully on PC we can put HUD elements where we want or not at all.
@@KarlGosling thanks for your reply. Noted.
Bajeeezus Karl you're getting all big and proper like. What next? Timestamps/chapters on each video :P
hahaha I'm sure this is probably a one off mate! Time stamps, chapters?! What are they?! lol

Watch out for burn in with static images like the in game hud
Yeah, I wouldn't get OLED for gaming or computer use until that's not a thing anymore.
@@BecksDrives Same here. Don't run ridiculous brightness levels and it shouldn't be an issue.
Can you play in ultra-wide by configuring your output? Does it work fine for ultra wide format?
Yes you can but it looks awful for sim racing! lol
Ultrawide screens need to be flat or very close to flat or you get warping and stretching of the image, take a look at my Dirt Rally 2.0 triple setup video as that treats them a one big ultrawide.
@@KarlGosling what GPU would you recommend as a minimum to use this tv in full specs for iracing or ACC? As a single monitor
Nice carl :D
Awesome setup! What’s your eye to screen distance in this setup?
Around 104cm mate.
Triples further away would be much more ideal.. one day. I have and like VR but the image quality on the OLED is just so much better.
i have that exact poop emoji cushion, i love it lol
What cable do you use for displayport to hdmi?
See my video on it mate.
Hello , can anyone share some advice with me please, I have a ps4 pro and looking to update my tv. Which is better a tv or monitor for the ps4 pro please?
Many thanks
You need 3 of that Karl lfg
lol I have 3! :)
Would you recommend using quest 2 with a rtx3080 over this TV?
You can't compare VR to a flat display mate, two very different ways to race.
Just use DP to HDMI adapters, that's what I've done.
I wish these were more expensive, to make them less tempting haha
As sim racing often has the same things displayed at the same place for the entire time. Will OLED screen burn be an issue?
I don't have any static images when sim racing, but if you do and are worried you can just turn them off.
This maybe a silly question but can you use one TV remote with all 3?
You can't NOT use one remote with multiple LG oled screens 🙂. Can be an issue if you're just trying to change one, when you have to hold the remote close to the IR receiver and use your hand to mask the IR signal from the others. Minor problem though for a brilliant sim display (I'm using LG48CX rather than C1).
@@ColinDyckes Thankyou :)
One of my three remotes turns all TV's on/off, another actually fully operates all three simultaneously and the third remote only operates the TV it came with.
@@KarlGosling hahahaha, blimey! So 'Gold sample' TV remotes then? :)
@@KarlGosling Interesting. In my case the remote from either my 55" B9 or 48" CX both operate both TVs 😁
Would i be able to run this on a 2080 super and i9-9900 with decent settings? That res would seem like a gpu killer lol. Any frames testing so see what you get with respective speced PC'?
One yes, three no, my 3080 manages about 50-60fps at 4k on high/ultra settings in ACC for example.
@@KarlGosling Yes sorry, i should have mentioned i plan on just one of them. Either the 48 or the 55. Looking at this option or a ultra wide monitor. I just wouldnt think id break 60pfs in 4k on the LG with what I have but maybe so.
oof looks like my chrismass bonus is going to LG for 3 of those xD
You are spot on man
I spent thousands on monitors the last 10 years, Acer Predators, Asus ROG's, Im done with that, This is the way to go.
Exactly mate!
Once you see that poop on the sofa, you can't unsee it.
Why no DP port
TV's do not come with DP IME, you'll only find that on monitors, presumably because only PC's use DP, game consoles, Sky boxes, Blu-ray players etc. are all HDMI so there's no call for it.
@@KarlGosling but if it’s aimed at gaming then I’d assume they’d put one on at least.
I've ran plasma TV's as games and sim displays for the last 10 years without any burn in (I still have them here now in fact!) you just need to bare in mind the limitations of what you are using and you will be fine :)
Of course only time will really tell with these current OLED screens so we'll see in a year or two :)
Hello
A grand each … with no display ports 🤔
They are TV's so HDMI 2.1... nothing uses DP bar PC's.
I need a TV with 12 hdmi inputs lol
if you buy 4 of these, you'll have 12 inputs
If he buys 3! lol There's four on each TV :)
@@KarlGosling I guess that's true but I always use hdmi2 earc as an out for audio from all devices.
@@KarlGosling Mate, i couldn't afford half of one of those. A great review by the way, i always appreciate your honesty in all you do :)
They lack DisplayPort so say goodbye to gsync
Do you think my wife will notice if I take my oled from my front room to my man cave tonight . I could tell her it’s been stolen !!
I'm sure she wouldn't mate, go for it! ;)
Mines on a free standing aluminum profile mount with casters for just such dilemmas..
Who would ever sim race on a 4k tv LUL
