So much discussion happening in the comments from both sides re: folding rigs.
I think a follow up video is needed where I use and compare a wheel stand and folding rig!

I think folding rigs have their place. Even if they aren't perfect there is no easier way to get into sim racing in a small space or not living in the same place very long. They obviously not great but many of them like the NLR are priced right and are a better alternative to desk mounting.
When I got my cockpit I couldn’t believe how much it changed my life. It’s a solid legit one. You can get them for so little money now. I would agree avoid cheaper ones.
A good 2nd hand Playseat challenge is a great way to get in to sim racing, if you like the hobby then you can move on to something better without having spent a huge amount of money.
I guess the argument I’m making is that a wheel stand is a better option to a folding rig. However, opinions differ and that’s totally fine!
I think a follow up video might need to be made re: folding rigs since this one was definitely the most disagreed with.
@@daniel_gray10can you easily put your metal stand in your car and drive to your friends house ? Cuz I can with my play seat challenge and I also have a metal stand rig and without me reinforcing the hell out of if, my play-seat challenge was sturdier lol and it’s so comfortable and I made a slanted ramp to raise the pedals and turn it into am f1 position so technically it’s an fgt style foldable rig that looks nice unlike nlr foldable rig
I've been looking into proper sim gear for a while now (Been driving with a DFGT clamped onto my desk while in a very awkward position for... quite many years)
And the best option for me unfortunately seems to be a folding rig. I don't want to get into the hassle of getting a wheel stand and trying to figure out how to make my chair stay in place, and driving while sitting on the chair gets really uncomfortable and painful after an hour or so. I also have extremely limited amount of space (Rig would basically need to fit under my desk)
So the most suitable and least expensive option for me ise a folding rig. It would just about fit in my apartment, it would have... some kind of seat in it and the driving position would be miles better than desk clamped wheel
I had a playseat challenge for years, even with a DD wheel mounted to it in its final state. And yes, I did fold it away after every usage, which did not take longer than 2 minutes. (It's really just about folding it together, that NLR counterpart shown in the video is a totally different story.)
For me, it was the perfect solution to set up my sim rig in the living room.
Meanwhile we moved to a bigger house and I have a aluminium profile rig on casters in my office. 🙂
I don’t think all of the Playseat products are a waste of money. I have the playseat trophy and I have to say it fantastic. It’s small and light enough for me to put it in a cupboard when I’ve finished using it!

Personally prefer the trophy over the omega prime cockpit...far more comfortable and looks better
Agree, quite happy with my Trophy. I don't have a lot of free space and racing in VR and it suits me really well. Also compared to other products those Playseat's are available without need of expensive shipping etc

The lightness of the trophy is definitely a unique feature! I guess in my head a low end 80-20 costing the same makes it a tough sell. However the ability to move the trophy around so easily (and even hang it on the wall like I’ve seen some people do) makes it a really good option!
I have also the throphy. Biggest comment 2 years ago was the price. But i noticed that during black friday. The price came very close to the challenge. It can handle my Asetek forte pedals. But in the coming years. I will upgrade to Simlab. Most important part will be the seat. Due how comfy the throphy feals.
Another playseat challenge owner here, and yes I fold it every time. And these folders absolutely have a place, because sometimes (like in my case) there is literally no other option because of limited space.
I have a folding cockpit and I unfold it every time I am going to use it, but I see where you're coming from, your argument is valid, specially by the rigidity point of view, but these do have a very specific use case where they were designed for, people with very cramped spaces and a single monitor, like me, for me to buy a full size rig I would need more space and a dedicated ultra wide monitor at the very least (which I'd love to have btw) but I see that your argument is directed to people with enough space, budget and dedication to the sim, which is totally valid

Hi Daniel! I appreciate your comment on folding rigs and I think your position serves as a valuable cautionary tale. I have a NLR F-GT Lite and I will say I am on high end of the proverbial varying mileage. I find my rig to be stable and relatively easy to customize, and what I love the most is how I can switch between an upright and a formula-style position (I use a position somewhere between the two) I agree that the folding/unfolding process is quite cumbersome, but it offers advantages if your space is limited. For example, I leave it unfolded, but fold up the pedals when not in use to clear the space, ad unfolding is a 15 second task. I've also folded it up when I was moving, and more recently, when I was rearranging my office space. While it's not for everyone and certainly not as easy as the packaging will proclaim, I think there are some benefits to them. Not disagreeing with you, rather showing my own positive experience. Thanks!
Disagree on folding rigs, I've had a playseat challenge for a while and it takes 10 seconds to fold up the pedals and squeeze it a bit for it to take up way less of a footprint. There's flex but not something you notice massively with a cheaper wheel which is what you'll likely be using on this anyway. The fixed seating position where pedals and wheel is in the exact same spot in relation to you is imo much better than a wheelstand.
Wheelstands also usually mean a freestanding chair or at best loosely fixed and I find it way more annoying for my chair to move under braking than some minor flex.

I love your point of view on these topics and completely agree with most of them. Folding rigs are definitely a compromise but still have their place, If that's the only option then its better than nothing. Playseat definitely don't seem to be motivated to innovate at all, very stale in my eyes. Luckily, the Trak Racer Rally seat fits me well. I'm 6' 3" and fairly lean and I can sit in it for hours. I've got a Samsung QN90C 50" mounted to the Trak Racer single integrated monitor mount on a TR-160 and have literally zero issues, so this seems to be a decent one. The real car rims are for people with a heap of disposable income. If you're loaded then the price of a real wheel for your sim probably doesn't seem that much to you, I think it's just a cool factor for some.

I am an University student studying overseas and I live in a Student accommodation room.
I am currently using a Fanatec DD Pro 8nm with 65kg Load cell pedals, and the Formula v2.5X and Porsche Podium GT3 Suede rim plus the Fanatec handbrake and shifter.
I need the space in my room when I am not racing and use my 3090 PC to do other stuff such as revision and other FPS games. So I do fold them when I am not racing.
The folding rig that I use is a Playseat Challenger and with custom 3D printed mods for reducing flex.
I think you can just go ahead and put all sim racing seats on this list. If you go to your local junkyard you can get an incredibly comfortable seat that's meant to be sat in for hours and hours on end as well as adjustable rails for about $40. It also has the added bonus of recycling and not adding to the junk in this world.
I will say, I bought a 3D printed F1 wheel for the Logitech G920 for like $80 AUD and it's great. It's about the same weight as the base wheel so the force feedback is about the same, but I just love that it's shaped as a Formula wheel as I always play F1
USB hubs that dont have extra power should also be on there. The amount of weird problems that can be avoided is great, and if you already have a powerstrip on the sim it wouldnt add another cable going off the rig.
I fell into this trap, even with a powered one. I bought a cheap powered one and had so many issues, had to upgrade it to a good one. Great point!

I used to fold up my back rest and my pedal deck and moved my folding rig aside. I only folded it in completely twice, once for moving and once for selling it and upgrading to my profile rig.
I loved the folding cockpit, it was the best I could get at the time. They definitely have their niche for people in appartments or who live with parents/roommates. I have heard similar things from friends who had the same Next Level Racing cockpits. Not perfect, but good enough in certain circumstances.
I agree with foldables. I lived in a smaller apartment,and I used a wheelstand and shoes under my office chair. Worked a lot better than I was expecting, but glad I got a solid rig now lmao
I fold and unfold my playseat challenge every day in less than a minute. Just get your wiring set up for a quick disconnect and it’s no problem. I love it
I am using playseat challenge and I must say I love it. I live with my wife and there is just no place for me to put a rig fulltime in the house. I unfold it before every usage and fold it right after. It literally takes me 2 minutes to do so and then I have couple of hours of driving so its all good. Honestly I think im into simracing because of foldable rigs.

GT Omega make superb stuff whether it be a stand or full rig. Highly recommend.

as an NLR FGT owner for about a year: you're right, i've chosen the GT position and never changed to F1.
to the flex (using it with a Moza R5 bundle) and uncomfortable (back pain) part. I'm 198 cm, and my only issue with that is the pedals are somewhat close, about 2 cm more to move backward the seat would be awesome. i'm running oval in iRacing, and after mid lenght races (NiS fixed) I never had any issues. the only when I felt real pain in my feet was after the Coca Cola 600, but that's an endurance race :D
Great list.... I have the TR Rally/GT style seat, and I have to agree. I've had it over a year and it would kill my lower back, best described as a burning sensation. I had to add more padding to the back and replaced the seat cushion for a more molded cushion. It's better now, but it's on my list as things I want to upgrade down the road. The part I don't agree with you, and made me laugh out loud, was your description of the F1 seating position. I currently have my pedals and seat configured to a hybrid position; between F1 and GT. But when I first built my TR160, I customized it with additional profile to be full F1 and I was still looking straight ahead... not at the ceiling. I inverted the mounting of the wheelbase so it was between my knees. The monitor was/is right behind the steering wheel. The reason I changed to a hybrid was I got into GT racing but didn't want to switch back and forth even though it's not that hard to do. Great video. Subscribed!
I built my own rig 40/120 profiles, triple 27 inch monitors with an integrated monitor mount of my own design, made of 40/40 profiles. I run a VRS DD pro wheelbase and I have no issues with vibration or flex whatsoever, and I'm very, very meticulous when it comes to vibrations or flex. I wouldn't do it with triple 32 inch monitors though and I probably wouldn't do it if I had a motion rig.
I have the nlr foldable rig. I'm a student so about two thirds of the year I am not racing that much. But when we are on vacation (the other third) I use my rig a lot. In a small apartment, this is the ideal solution for me. I think there are a sizeable market of people with my needs, so foldable should stay!
When I had my Logitech g920 I did use a 3rd party wheel, it was much much heavier than the original wheel, made the performance of the rig suffer a lot. While it felt cool at first I just noticed to many downfalls with it.
Another is a Foldable racing seat, bought a decent one, while it was all set up I had fun but as soon as you were done playing it was such a pain to dismount everything and put back in my closet since personally I didnt have any space to leave it unfolded, the hassle alone made me not want to play, so I sold it and bought a table clamp for my Moza wheel base, now I play a lot more and while I dont have the feeling of sitting more horisontally like you would a car, its a much better feeling knowing I can dismount and unmount in less than 2 minutes. But if you do have the space for it definetly buy an actual seat and rig. I will as soon as I move to a bigger place.
Also wanna say that I dont recommend doing small upgrades from time to time, its better to save then spend it on something with better quality, for example. I went from a Logitech G920 to Thrustmaster Gt300, to Moza R5 all within a year and a half. What I should have done was skip the thrustmaster entirely but I wasnt smart about it. While I did make a bit of money back selling it, I still came out negative. Plus Direct Drive wheels are getting so much cheaper, if you're thinking of using a wheel at least 4 hours a week I would definetly reccommend saving upo for DD.
My brother had the Trak Racer GT seat and it fits both of us well. The main issue I have with it is the rear seat flex. Under heavy braking you can feel the back of the seat pop out and as you let off the break it pops back in. I am not sure if this is a "feature" or what but I know my NRG Prisma seat doesn't do it.
Playseat Challenger owner: you're right that i never fold it up and put it away after every use. However, it's been such a far superior experience over using my wheel at the desk. I've never used a wheel stand so can't comment on that.
I have a Playseat Evolution, and for me it's perfect. yes it wobles a bit with my fanatec CSW v2.5 , and because i use only 2 pedals the bar in the midle is not an issue, but the thing is, i live in a appartment and i cant have a dedicated sim, so when i use it, i just move it from the side of my desk and put it in front of it, do a few races and move it back to the side, i am happy my wife is happy because i do not have a huge piece of metal in the middle of the office. Win win
I have the same setup, although I do have mine in our basement livingroom my wife still "needs" it moved every time we have company. 🙄

I have a Track Racer GT seat , your right the pain was almost immediate. My back would hurt all the time and make it unbearable to sit in for long periods . I ended up purchasing a set of seat cushion from amazon for 30$ and replaced the track racer inserts and the back pain has snice gone away .

I’m one of those who really likes this „real race car wheel for sim rigs“ stuff, also like gloves, shoes, you name it. It is just fascinating to me how far sim racing itself had become over a rather short period of time. That I could borrow the BMW wheel to Timo Glock, in case he’d show up and has forgotten his wheel, is a bonus…..
But that is my normal me, I’m used to it by now :-)))

NLR F-GT is not at all a bad product. considering they sell them new for 400eur. put on real car seat as i did with mine and u have great option for price. also i change seating position depending on what type of races im mostly in at the moment. when i was driving only formula cars and GT3 i liked it in formula style, now im more into rally and drifting and use GT style. all it takes are 4 bolts.
I've owned one for almost one and a half year and i have not experienced these problems and they shouldn't be if you can screw things together and doesn't weigh like a blue whale
I pretty much agree with you on all the things you say. I myself have a foldeable seat because i thought it will be convient to fold it up when i wasnt racing for couple of days. In the end i bolted the Rig to a wood panel because i lifted the Rig when i was breaking hard with my load cell pedals. I bolted caster wheels to the wood panel so i can roll it out of the way when i play normal games on my PC. Yeah it was a bit of wasted money but it was enough to suck me in the Sim Racing rabbit hole even further. Now i am waiting for my Sim Lab GT1 Pro to arrive. It will be such a big step up from the Playseat Challenge i cant wait!
Can confirm you're absolutely right about folding rigs. I have a playseat challenge and I've never folded it once. Wish I'd have just bought a proper rig to begin with because now I'm looking to upgrade and I've wasted £170 on the playseat.
I got my first rig 2 weeks ago with the trophy playseat and I have to say its not that bad. On the large config it flexes a bit under heavy breaking but everything else is pretty decent imo.
I'm using the GT Lite pro and got it with a nice discount at launch. For the first few months of me using it, it was to use in front of my main TV in the living room. Each night, I would fold it up, which at first was a pain but eventually got the hang of it. Since then, I'm primarily using VR so moved the rig to a permanent location. Yes, I would rather a full rig, but for the price I paid, I have a decently comfy seat and a rig that does the job.
I have the track racer rally seat, i had to add a cushion to the lower back portion. After i added that it has been fine 4 years strong
I have a custom wheel for my G29, but it is actually much lighter than the stock rim as it is made of real carbon fibre and not just a sticker over plastic. I have VRS Pro pedals and a 160mm profile rig to handle them. Pedals were the most important upgrade and my rig can now also handle a DD when I upgrade.

@@Reazy- I didn't do it for the G29. I already had that for years first. Pedals are the most important upgrade. And you can't use 200kg load cell pedals on the floor, so I needed the rig to use them. Whilst a DD gives you more feedback, you can still drive perfectly fine with a G29. Crappy pedals on the other hand, will slow you down.
@@Hellknight27 your right, the number 1 lesson is if you upgrade one thing you need to upgrade something else, ive spent way more money than i thought I would need originally because there is always something thats not up to standard. For me i just went with the fanatec ecosystem and im quite happy with it
@@Reazy-Pedals are the biggest upgrade that’ll make you faster. Everything else is mostly for immersion at least for road racing.
@@thegeneral1955 a good like 8nm direct drive will make you a lot quicker and more precise too, but a good rig is a necessity for Avoiding back pain, pedal movement etc.

I did some fact checking and for the most part you’re correct.
Factoring in the wheel rim coming with the Logitech, in Australia it is for the most part cheaper. But I should’ve checked internationally, which I did for the other products.

Thanks you for the video. I have a G923. Do you recommend change my wheel? I see some products but they are’nt cheap. I’m affraid to waste more money for something worst that i have. I play F1 and like a wheel with the F1 line but i can continue playing in g923.
My first wheel was a g29 , no idea about wheels but wanted to try , soon as i got g29 i knew it needed some sort of rig or desk or someting . Fold down playseat was cheapest option and both them combined after a while i knew i wanted to get into sim racing for sure , the playseat was not the best but i folded it down lots and got it out lots to . Playseat is a good way of trying out sim racing to see if its a thing you want to take further . By the way now im omega prime rig with fanatec dd pro . But will always remember it was the playseat and g29 that got me hooked 😊
I built my first sim rig out of an old exercise machine and plywood. Used my foldup fishing seat from my boat.
I had a 19'' monitor and a Logitech Driving Force Pro wheel.
Fast forward- Omega GT Art cockpit, Logitech G Pro wheel/pedals. Varjo Aero for vr racing. LG C1 OLED 55'' for all other games.
Sim racing is fun.
I had the FGT lite for about 6 months when I first got into sim racing. I totally agree. I had promised my wife I would put it away, and it is a complete pain. I’m a pretty athletic guy and very mechanically inclined, and I can tell you some people would not even be capable of folding it without injuring themselves. It is not easy at all, and the stress on the joints wears out the plastic parts after a while, just adjusting it and locking it back into place. Also, the plastic clamp that holds the steering wheel bar in place eventually snapped in half. I was only using a Logitech.
I own the trak racer gt seat and had the same problem initially. I angled the seat back more and added a lumbar pillow, it’s been perfect since! But yea out of the box, not much support for the lower back which definitely gave some me some back pain.
This man is spittin lol. I started with a folding rig and realized I left it deployed all the time cause it was such a pain in the ass to fold up. Then I went with an FGT 😂. Finally got rid of that and got a 8020 rig during Black Friday. Any seats you recommend? I’m sending back the NRG prisma I got cause it’s giving me the same issues you mentioned with the Trak racer seats
I personally use the NLR es1 and love it!! But with seats, it's kinda tough since your body is different to mine!
I have the Trakracer GT seat and I find it comfortable... but only with a very specific seating position. It just so happens that this position suits my setup. More versatile seats out there for sure
Personally, I use an ExtremeSimRacing SXT V2 folding rig, and it's wonderful. I fold it up, put it against the wall next to my desk, and it only take about a minute each way to get it ready or put it away.
Folding rigs are a actually great option to get started... many of us with a now a full blown sim rig started with a Playseat Challenge... No need to downvote it or disregard it.
hi im wondering should i get a used thrustmaster t150 or tmx since im on pc, im looking for a good budget wheel, the pedals i dont mind buying seperatly since i will be buying from either ebay or cex but is there any other budget used options around 200-300$, i also am looking for something quiet
My choice is either desk mount a 12nm base and run it at like 3-4 nm max or folding wheel stand. I think I'll deal with the folding wheel stand.
I have the NLR folding chair and I think its great. My issues are my butt gets numb so I have to use a pillow to push me more forward so my butt doesn't go numb. As for folding I do a half fold, where i just bring up the peddles and the back and don't adjust the seat and move it away. I like this way more than anything else I have tested for under $150. But I will say it is annoying knowing that I will need to upgrade my seat if I ever want a Direct drive, and I want a foldable rig that can support direct drive. So yeah, I am one of those weird folding guys! Great video by the way and gave me some good things to look into.
Lol I love my FGT rig, it’s the most affordable formula style rig. And it’s actually very comfortable in the formula position. Also the flex is almost gone with the upgrade kit. I also like the small footprint and affordability
3:34 i had one of these. and i had to use large c clamps to clamp it to my desk so that the wheel deck wouldnt flop around everywhere. also since im 190cm tall (6,3 ish) i had to have the rail tube extended all the way out. but this means that there was only 10cm or less of tubing inside eachoter, and the playseat relies on the tubes inside eachother in order to brace and prevent flex. so everytime i pressed the breakpedal MASSIVE flex in the entire thing. the pedal plate had holes drilled out for the g29 pedals. but somehow it still has so terrible support that the footplate on the g29 pedals. broke multiple times. overall 10/10 experience would buy again even if i couldnt afford to feed my 49 cats
I have a trakracer GT seat and I love it. I think it also depends on how you mount it on the rig. The wrong angle I can see making it uncomfortable
I love my sim rig, but yes a 20kg rig is a pain in the ass to move but screw having to mount and unmount a wheel, handbrake, and shifter just to use my pc for normal games. The pedals also send me flying backwards when i try hard breaking so i need the rig to keep my chair still and another thing is i dont trust the clamps on a DD wheels or my desk. (I use the next level racing wheel stand 2.0 and it is extremely durable)
The Playseat Challenge was great for me when I first got into SIM racing. I was working from home and had to switch between racing and working every other day. Without it, my hobby would never have taken off.
Folding rig is one of the best purchase I made in my life and it's actually the main reason why I literally can keep playing Simracing. I'm surely not the only one here so I don't think you should prevent the people from buying this when it can be the only option for enjoying simracing for most of us.
You simply have to know what you are buying and the experience will depend on the product itself, but you cannot deny the concept itself because not all of us can afford, whether due to money or space, to have a fixed cockpit in our home.
I bought a Playseat Challenge that I can fold and unfold in 30sec (even less) and store it behind the door. I spend less time doing this than anchoring the wheel on the table and connecting all the cables everytime that I have to use it and it is better to have it all folded together than to store the steering wheel + pedals in a closet.
Really, very surprised on this.

Regarding sim rig, just do what I did, after having a foldable one, the fgt lite, that playseat with that flag pole holding the wheel base, i went to the home depot, grab few 2x4s and some spray cans, to the nearest junkyard grab myself a seat, bestbuy an openbox 55" tv and build myself a beast of a cockpit, even got a side console with cup holders, doesnt look great and lives in the basement, but does the job perfectly fine and I spent (with the tv included) a fraction of all that crap they sell out there
Now I dont have a brand name crap cockpit with a g29 anymore, now i have a homemade cockpit with a fanatec rig

I have the Playseat Trophy, got it at a discount, and couldnt find anything better for cheaper at that point. I honestly love it. No backpain whatsoever, and enough customizability. I wouldnt have gotten it at full price though.
I just changed from a NRG Rally seat to the TrakRacer GT seat and I like it so far. I’ve spent over an hour in my rig on three occasions so far and for me it’s a better seat. I will comment in a month or two to follow up.
I have fgt lite with a cls dd 8nm and elite pedals v2. I don't completely fold it and keep it in my room. Mosty just the back rest and the pedals are enough so I can put them in a corner. It does flex, but if you have no space, it is good enough. I have shifter and hand brakes too cuz I do rally the entire seat shaking is immersive enough lol and the position of the handbrakes are better than stands

Just got a G29 for my first wheel and pedal setup. I know it’s not the most ideal but price point was something I couldn’t pass up for just getting into sim racing. I mostly play GT7. I like it but definitely want to upgrade now. Probably in the next year I would like to get a DD setup. Definitely enjoy playing more with a wheel and pedals than a controller, even if it is a lower level setup.
NLR - F-GT, I do agree on lol. I sold mine since it is not comfortable and it take soo much room...Thanks god I ended up with their Wheel Stand DD.
I have a folding rig with a thrustmaster tmx pro (soon a dd1 when it gets delivered 💀) i almost dont fold it, only when the cleaner comes clean my room, i didn’t even buy it because it was foldable, but because it was one of the cheaper rigs
I used to have a folding Playseat. As you say, I'd leave it folded up in the corner, ended up selling it and my wheel and giving up for while.
Awesome video, couldn't agree more on all views except the track racer rally seat. I love this seat but I am using the highest setting and almost 90c angle. Any other settings would give me crippling back pain.
I only used suede wheels all the time with Sparco Karting Gloves. But those always lost grip after some time. I was looking around for a new wheel with rubber grips. The issue though was that all those wheels had some buttons with a button cap so you can't properly reach them with your thumb (outside stitches).
Then I found the VRS wheel and it was at sale for 850€.
Best investment ever. Price of 850€ is also somewhat in the Ascher Range and it should be the default price. Although still pricey it would be in an OK range.
1000€ is just too much unfortunatly so this wheel won't get too much attention.
I own a PlaySeat Challenge and I fold and unfold it almost every other day when do race (or do Euro Truck). Any other setup would be impossible since where I set it up is also my main desk for work and playing other games.
I totally disagree with everything you said about the F-GT. They come with strengthening kits now so its probably the cheapest rig you can get that can support DD and proper load-cell pedals without any flexing at all. I always found the seat pretty comfy too as long as you have the lumbar pillow on it.

Honestly the opinions on the f-gt vary massively, some people saying it has flex others saying it doesn’t. At the end of the day though if any of these products work for you that’s great!

i have one of the oldest generations of playseat evolution models and the pedal plate is almost solid 5mm thick metal
I never fold my rig unless I am bringing it with me. It is helpful that my NLR F GT Lite folds and fits in my car.
I always leave it in GT position. I only got the version that does both because it was bigger.
fully agree on the t818 I was already in the thrustmaster ecosystem which is why I got it. also the 6nm belt wheelbases they have a really great used imo but they do break kinda often sooo yea. if I didn't love my sf1000 I would've changed ecosystems when upgrading
Third party logi wheel rim 100% agree with you. Folding stands not totally true but fully dependant on which one you buy. The NLR Wheel Stand 2.0 is indeed foldable but it’s solid AF and has to be fully bolted together when folded out and unbolted to fold up. It’s solid. No flex. You are right though about never folding them up, I’ve not folded mine in the 18 months I’ve owned it and I never will now that I’ve bough the NLR GT seat add on and bolted that to it 🤣. Playseat though 100% agree. Loads of flex in those.
I think folding rigs ARE a great solution for space constraints, FE: 46m2 appartment w/ girlfriend. A playseat challenge was the solution.
Yeah the challenge wasn’t sturdy, but it had the GF stamp of approval and I could race, on a G27!
Until we got a bigger house, and later on I upgraded and ran into flex issues with the 8Nm CSL DD.
That’s where the NLR wh2.0 comes in. A bit of a compromise, but with a comfy chair, I have my load cell, I use 8Nm of torque and I’m still have loads of fun!🎉
Totally agree with the Track Racer GT seat. I fixed it with a load of cut memory foam sheets.
Ive had a folding sim rig for about a year now. I do fold it up when im done with it. Its not that much of a hassel but i do play for like 5-6 hours when i do get to bring my rig out of my closet
I have a high end Thrustmaster TS-PC with the Ferrari 488 competition wheel, bought before the more reasonably priced DD wheels bases came to the market place, But on having used a friends Fanatec budget DD, I found there to be not that much difference between the overall feel and FFB, ok some detail is a bit more refined/defined, but the overall experience was probably similar. Now had the lower priced offerings in the DD range been available when I shelled out over £300 for the TS-PC I might have gone along the DD route, and might still head that way in the near future, once I feel I have had my monies worth from the current wheelbase/wheel set up, oh and I have the Thrustmaster T-LCM pedal deck also, next purchase for me is an Alloy rig and seat. Great video, and great content on the whole, but as you say it is " your opinion" and as such will not be agreed upon by all
i just got a csl dd and used a tspc for 2 years. For competitive sim racing the tspc is very good and no point going to a dd. maybe if someone is looking for more realistic feel it can be a good option, i dont know.. im slightly slower now with a dd. still maybe have to get use to it.
2:43 I've got the Next Level Racing F-GT Lite and I'm really glad that I'm able to get it into small spaces since I have to share my PC with my dad. It only takes a few minutes to fold it up and it' s doing what it's supposed to. (comfort is only a problem if you play for ~6+ hours)
is getting the stand from NLR worth it? at least i wont need to use my desk to clamp the wheel and also not invest real estate for a cockpit...
I have gt lite and I love it. I got it for 80 euros from ebay. When i first started simracing i had t150 and it was sturdy enough. when i got dd pro i could feel some flex, but then i used few pieces of wood, 20 zip ties and now it is sturdy as if it was made of steel. truth is that I don't fold it (i only fold pedal part), but I need to move it every time I want to play because I play on my tv and gt lite is easy to move because it is very light.
I have a friend who also did the same with his gt lite with reinforcing it and loved it! 80 euros seems like a great deal too.
So I have 2 of the products in this list. I have the Playseat Evolution and the T818.
The Playseat is not great but just about acceptable when you prop up the wheel plate. I owned it for years now and it has served me well enough. But with the T818 attached it definitely has reached its limit. The flex is hilarious when I push up the FFB settings now.
I got a pretty good deal on a T818 SF1000 bundle and I already own several TM rims so it made sense to me. So far I'm really please with it although as said earlier it needs a sturdier rig.
I'd put the T300 in the same bucket as the more expensive belt-drive bases. The Moza R5 is only around 10% more money, and it's a DD base, with a great upgrade path.
Even the T150 could be questionable - the Cammus C5 exists...
Only reason to get one of these would be if you find one at a great price second hand.

I agree buying new go for DD but i will say also shop the used markets also. I was able to snap a TSXW with the 7+R shifter on a NLR Ultimate GTV2 Frame for $500 total making that a hell of a starter build and this has lasted me 5 years. I now use different pedals but the TSXW is still okay but ready for a DD.
I have a folding sim rig. Playseat challenge. I fold it up after every weekend because my wife would murder me if I didn't. Would love a fixed rig but just don't have the space.

Yes is true, i have a playseat foldable and i fold in the first weeks and after stay all the time open but the real problem is when i upgrade for fanatec dd pedals v3 and all it moves a lot and is to heavy i have to block the rear to not fall in the pedals it cut damage one cable the 8mn transformer after i only play with 5nm original i will not spent another 150 euros to buy a new one not big diference and if i put a wheel formula 2.5 or f1 ve esports just lost the force.. iam stuck with the mclaren gt3 v2 wheel and wrc p1....

Personaly, I bought a sparco circuit 2 seat off of a guy who used it in a real race car and I love it. It is super comfortable and not moving around in the seat makes the experience so much better.
I love my GTLite Pro folding rig! You do not have to fold it up completely for it to be useful. I just fold up the pedal stand, velcro it to the seat and then just wheel it out of my lounge room and into the spare room. It is very comfortable for long stints, it is actually quite stable and light and convenient to move around. Works great for my needs. Takes me 5 minutes to set up and to pack away.
Appreciate your viewpoint, honestly I’m surprised at the amount of comments from people with folding rigs! I’ll have to make a follow up video using a wheel stand and folding rig comparing them!

I got folding rig I live in small place best idea for small place and if u on a budget yeah but other then that if it something short term stick to your table till then or get one
On the NLR F-GT, have to say yeah I recommend going with a 8020 aluminum over the F-GT. That will be my next major expense on the rig I think. But I wish I had just gone 8020 from the start.
i had a folding rig and it broke in half while i was playing that was the last rig i had till today. and yes that was super funny when it broke!!
i got a madara from amazon 2 weeks ago and love it i am waiting for the wheel bundle to show up though says tomarrow will be 15 years i had to wait to get back into it
Another foldable rig user here, playsear challenge to be precise and I fold it up every time. I don't agree at all with the point about foldable rigs as they definitely have their right. I live in an apartment and don't have that much space and my wife would like me to put it away too as she uses the space too. So a foldable rig suits that perfectly.

I also started with g920 and raceroom seat.
Now I have Motedis Custom Rig Tripple Stand, with Custom BMW M3 E46 seat. Base DD2 with SRP GTR Pedals Wheels, I have M4 GT3 it's fantastic, Lmp pro Wheel and other rims. Why buy other products like Fanatec is not ridiculous, but rather an inspiration to have a real GT3 steering wheel on your Simrig. So much for that :-)
