Just to be clear regarding FPS. My FPS is fine for the majority of a race but at the start with all the cars visible it drops. I could lower the graphics settings and get a consistent 165fps, but as I mentioned in the video that's not my priority right now 😁

Thanks for this short segment. It sort of put my ADHD/anxiety brain at ease. In whatever I do I'm constantly battling with myself with the question of "is what I have enough?" Yes! I just made this switch myself. But from triple 24s to a 43 inch TV. It's simplified everything! And since I have head tracking and use Racelab's radar, I still race just as well (or badly 😂😂). And 4k visuals with all that vertical fov is immersive in a different way to triples. I‘ve started simracing like one and half years ago. Since this hobby is really expensive, i bought a PlaySeat rig and drove on my flatscreen TV on my PS5. It worked very good. Obviously you upgrade parts over time, but I haven’t yet switched to PC. Therefore I‘m still racing on a single screen and it’s perfectly fine. :)
new PC is coming though, PlaySeat rig will move out and the Fanatec CSL pedals are also going to be selled. It’s all down to the money you can invest at a time. I think it’s been a smart decision Dave.

For me, the real benefit of triples comes down to just a few things. First, I can see much further into corners. That includes seeing wrecks/pileups that are ahead of me, around corners. My rearview, and driver's side mirrors are visible in all cars. Lastly, the immersion is only bettered by VR. With that said, I'd be relatively satisfied on a single 27" 1080p 75hz. I'm running triple 32" 1440p 144hz for reference.

Totally understanding your toughts Dave, for a creator using a single monitor can be quite useful for all the reason you told us in the video. Sacrificing a bit of lateral vision for a better content for us is something that i can totally understand and anyway once you get used to driving with a single monitor (especially a big one) is totally doable. Probably if someone doesn't have any budget/space/performance issues triple are still a better choice but for a content creator your new setup is probably a better compromise. What's your take about trackir after you tried it a bit some time ago? Do you still use it or you prefer to have a "steady" camera and just rely on the spotter to know what's in your surroundings?

For those doubting. I race with the super ultra wide 49" screen and that's awesome too. It gives you a bigger FOV than a single monitor, but without the hassle of a multi monitor setup. Samsung recently even released a 57" version. Bit higher, bit wider.

I guess that depends on the size of the standard single monitor. A 55" 16:9 display has roughly the same hFOV as a 49" 32:9 super ultrawide.
Going that big though means you are looking at TVs rather than monitors so that can be a drawback sometimes in terms of performance/latency etc depending on your budget.

VR is great and fantastic, but for comfort the display still beats the VR Headset (Oculus Rift CV1) and the immersion can be almost as perfect, when you get the feeling to "dive" into your tv. It can look like 3d even though it is just a 2d-display and i can really get the impression of the car around me... it is the same with motorcycling sims... the best is Isle of Man... what a blast.

As always, to each their own. A person can be a serious sim racer if they use a gamepad if they race the right way and can control the car so they don’t impact anyone else. Plenty of people out there racing with DD’s on mummy and daddies coin have punted me with my g920 keeping it under control.

Dave, something I've always wanted to try with sim racing is using a single big TV but setting a custom 21:9 resolution on the PC so effectively you get a big ultrawide, albeit with black bars top and bottom but I don't think that would matter. Surely that would give the best of both worlds, IE: a massive screen but also the ultrawide field of view (which is awesome for racing as you'll already know). Performance wise it'll be no worse than driving the 4k TV, not sure exactly how it works with a custom resolution so the GPU might be rendering the black bars top and bottom but even so, it's still no worse than driving the 4k TV. Maybe give that a go while you have a single big TV setup on the rig. I think you'd have to set the custom resolution in Nvidia Control Panel to 3840x1600.

Using a single superwide curved qd oled and recently added track ir. The latter required training to get used to but once you get it it becomes natural to look into the side mirrors.
Positive side effect for me with trackIR is a more active seating posture. The ability to move forward a little and looking up down allows to see more of the track in blind corners.

    Hi Dave,
thank you for your videos, your enthusiasm and your passion.
Regarding whether or not to use a single screen, I understand your opinion, but I don't completely agree.
You can afford to go back to a simple screen because you're driving a GT. Door knocks or possible side impacts most of the time cause little damage and do not prevent you from finishing your race.
In open wheel, it's not the same story. No spotter can replace the fact of being able to visually monitor the distance from the car next to you and which will have a better chance of sending you into the barrier than a GT.
You can also afford to go back to a simple screen because you are a pilot with great experience. How many novice drivers, with only one screen and NO spotter, can get damaged and not finish their races because they have no side view?
In short, in open wheel, whatever your level, you are almost obliged to have a triple screen or a wide screen.
If you are a GT driver with good experience, you can actually go back to a single screen.
    Best wishes.
