    Interesting that the arrow skipped upward cutting a branch from the tree behind (5:21). No idea where it ended up, but likely went some distance. A good example of why shooting in a residential area is not recommended.

    That shot on the woodchuck was absolutely wild😮
    I've given up on my Oracle X. I have to send mine back a third time and when it comes back, off to Ebay it goes. When it works, it's fabulous. But I'm not going into the woods with a scope that works some of the time.

    Go with a single crosshair scope with an illuminated dot in the center with an HHA Speed Dial and be done.
    No, you won’t have the combination of rangefinding and scope in one but you won’t have any BS either.

    • @Deathbybunjie
      @Deathbybunjie  Рік тому

      But that won't give me pinpoint accuracy

    • @charlesbeaver5665
      @charlesbeaver5665 Рік тому

      @@Deathbybunjie it’ll give you accuracy to the yard so if you range something at 23 yards you dial it for 23 yards and you hit at 23 yards. I’d say that’s pinpoint.
      I have the speed dial on both my Excalibur’s and they are spot on to the yard

    • @Deathbybunjie
      @Deathbybunjie  Рік тому

      @@charlesbeaver5665 oh, I got your, definitely that is a good alternative. I don't care for having to move my hand andile in the exact yardage but believe me I have thought about switching to that style of scope!

      @@Deathbybunjie then I can think of three alternatives:
      1) Garmin-(which I wouldn’t take even if it was free. For the price it should come with a lifetime warranty and it doesn’t.)
      2) Sig Sauer BDX system: similar to the Burris, but the rangefinder is separate, not combined like the Burris.
      3) ATN: again similar to the Burris, but not rangefinder and scope combined.

    Burris Oracle X now has a software update available at no charge from Burris. You have to send it in and Burris pays for all shipping. The update is to resolve issues with battery drain - high cr123 main battery running down quickly. Just fyi if you have a OX and have frustrating issues with the battery. Mine took about only 2 weeks to send it in, update, have it returned. I hear it fixes the issue but time will tell for me if it actually does, I’m hopeful and we will see.

    I ended up going with the ATN X-Sight 4K Pro and the Ballistic Laser 1500.
    Part I don't like about it = It's a bit big and heavy.

Mounting issues can be a thing, either coming loose or bouncing around in a truck and getting banged around. Since the Burris is at least partially electronic I can see it might be different than a good old boy scope like all of mine. *Following your saga of scope and limbs issues, here's my 2 cents for what it's worth:*
    *First, I think crossbow manufacturers, in an effort to maintain market share, chased the **_"bigger is better"_** mantra. Ever-increasing advertised arrow speeds which fed a positive feedback loop. Problem is the hype outstripped the engineering (in my humble opinion). Yes, they **_can_** fire arrows at their advertised speeds; but the toll it's taking on the crossbow - specifically the limbs - is beyond our materials science capabilities at the moment. At least in the price ranges at which crossbows are sold. I'm sure NASA could build one that would hold up to the repeated strain, but who's going to pay $2 million dollars for a space-age, one-off crossbow?*
    *Secondly, I think scope manufacturers - historically building for powder rifles and only recently dipping their toe in the crossbow market - don't yet have the harmonics and stresses unique to crossbows dialed in yet. I'm not suggesting crossbows produce **_more_** recoil than a rifle; far from it. But I think the oscillations the crossbow imparts into scopes differs significantly from that of rifles in a way that is causing internal damage that isn't experienced with the powder burners. Thus the problems with the crossbow-specific scopes. Especially one as large, ungainly, and with a weird center of gravity as the Burris.*

    Rich, I think you bought a needs to be refurbished scope. All the refurbished ones I've seen are way more than that. It sounds like the shop took that scope back to make a good customer happy and he's selling it to recoup his cost.

    Earlier today I sent my 35-day old Burris Oracle X back and received the same lame email stating they are going to make me wait 5 - 6 turn around. It cost me $46 for UPS ground to send them a brand-new optic back to be fixed, I got to say I'm very unhappy with Burris, and when opening weekend comes and it's not mounted on my crossbow, I’m going to be even more unhappy.

    Have declared war on the groundhog here. They are digging holes all around the neighbors' buildings and my own. One pushed its way into my garage apartment and "dug up" the linoleum at both doors, I mean shreaded it, and tore out a piece of dry wall. I shot three with a break barrel air rifle and one with subsonic .22. I purchased a PCP air rifle and shot two more. I only recovered two out of six. The other four did the "self burial" thing and made it to their hole. I also missed one at 27 yards with crossbow on video. Never have tried to eat one.

    I had the exact same problem with my Burris Oracle X on my Tenpoint Nitro 505(old version without scope strutts). Not the case with my Ravin R29X. Consistent bullseye drilling at 80 yards. Not the case with the Tenpoint. You breathe on it wrong with that heavier Burris scope on that janky Tenpoint mount. You can kiss your arrow bye-bye if you so much as think of shooting out to 80 yards. What is irritating me, is that Tenpoint isn't providing a solution to retrofit the older Nitro 505 crossbows. It's like they're saying "thanks for your money sucker". If you want the problem fixed, you have to buy a brand new crossbow. Yep, I did exactly that, by buying a Ravin.

      @Deathbybunjie  Рік тому +1

      Good for you, I don't have a problem with your decision at all. I've commented on that and kind of thought the same thing about tenpoint. On one hand, I get it that when they released those they might not have known that larger heavier Scopes would become popular. I get that. But when you make a work around for the new models, they should have included a way to retrofit the old ones. 100%.

    Still researching the subject, but there is literally nothing out there. The HALO is not being made any more and I am researching the Pard NV008S(LRF) ( popular among air gun folks ) to see if it's for us or not. Everything except the Halo Hyper X Laser-Rangefinding Crossbow Scope is in the $1,000 range just like Burris. The Halo looked great but it's not being made any more. The fun thing about the Pard unit is it's also night vision ! Remains to be seen if it's a proper ranging reticle though.

    you know I had also purchased one of those scopes off of your links and I also sent mine back and got my money back because the technology didn’t work right in it. Also, I didn’t get a remote in with mine… so you and I both had this issue of getting a bad refurbished scope so that tells me that they are not doing a very good quality control job at actually fixing these units and maybe they’re not testing them far enough… I hopped on the wagon for the scope this year I had two units that I owned had to go back because they did not function correctly. I spent $200 out of my own pocket just to test these units. I am done with burris and I will not hunt with that scope. I could not imagine lining up a perfect shot on a deer and pulling that trigger and either missing it or even worse gut shooting that deer because the scope was off

    • @Deathbybunjie
      @Deathbybunjie  Рік тому

      I did shoot a deer with it last year, and when they work they work great! The one that I bought at discount did not come with a remote either but the company was real quick to tell me they'll send me a remote. We shall see, story continues to evolve.

    • @Artisanwoodworks73
      @Artisanwoodworks73 Рік тому

      @@TheBlackrider85 yes, but to have a warranty that exhibits an END to the whole reason why you got the item in the first place is ridiculous.
      Your fridge company isn’t going to replace every item in the unit when the unit fails is it?!?

      @TheBlackrider85 Рік тому

      @Artisanwoodworks73 No, obviously, we only replace everything that was broken, but you can bet it isn't a top priority for anyone at the factory. If Bueris is like us, then don't even have a department that only does warranty work and simply resend it down the line to be fit into the scheduled that actuality makes the company additional money.
