Cummins Hyster Part 10: First Start after rebuild, How to Bleed an Inline Pump Fuel System.

  • In this video I bleed the fuel system of air and do the First start for the 8.3L Cummins after rebuild. It seems to run great! :-) None of it was pre rehearsed you are seeing the actual first fire. It looks like it should make a good power plant for the Hyster 15K off road forklift. Still some things to button up to finish the engine but ready to go into the forklift now.

No matter how many engines you’ve built, that first start - with no leaks - always puts a smile on your face. Especially when it’s a “Franken-Cummins!

I like it too and Baily's not one to be overly emotional. That rig starts like my opposed twin Vanguard. Starter turns 2ice and it's running. THAT is an engine that'd do a LOT of work and with good maintenance would last a long time and it sure will there. A-PLUS, Pal and GBWYall!

  • @DonDegidio

    Hi Brian,
Congrats on the first start. it sounds sweet. You had me worried near the end of the engine run. I was thinking "come on Brian, time to shut her down". The engine may have a lot of mass, but remember it uses wet liners and not a lot of mass there to absorb the heat. Anyway, she's running now and that's a big step. You and Bailey stay safe.

    Hi Brian.
    That's running beautifully.
I loved your comment "No oil leaks .... yet!" Sounds like you expected them.
With changing the engine, will that entail changes to the engine mounts and bell housing connections?
That forklift will be the Hyster on steroids with this beast.
It's been a great series, thoroughly enjoyed the one on the rebuilding of the injector pump, clearly those guys have done a few of them.
Look forward to the next episodes!
Good to see Bailey comes to inspect your work periodically and to make sure you're not sleeping!!
