    I recently got a R/T charger. The scat and hellcat are great (wish I could afford one lol) but here the mark ups are just insane. Funny enough however, the R/T trims don’t have much if any mark up at all. There is almost a 12K difference between the R/T and Scat. The R/T is my daily driver, it’s actually very good on gas. Very comfortable and sounds great. I’m not a great driver or pro with muscle cars, so a fast but controllable car is more ideal for me lol. Nice video 👍

    Here is another thing to consider if you are looking for performance on a budget; you can get an R/T with the super track pack which gives you the LS rear differential, all the infotainment goodies that allow you to monitor track day data, it comes with wider rims and tires, better braking system, cold air intake, paddle shifters in the automatic, larger sway bars, Bilstein performance shocks that lower the ride height, and best of all a different performance mapping to the ECU.
    My son bought a Blacktop Edition R/T with the STP and it puts out a few more ponies than a base R/T and has more than enough power to get yourself into trouble. That said, he still gets between 24 and 26 MPG on the highway with it.
    I personally think that unless you are going to be frequenting the local drag strip on the regular, a R/T with a few extras here and there is more than adequate to scratch that leaving a light with some authority itch and put a smile on most average person's face. In sport mode the R/T is a hoot to drive, it looks great, and they all sound great from the factory so it won't disappoint when you mash on it. In my opinion if it is a daily driver go R/T, if it is a fair weather, weekend warrior, or cruise night ride then step up for the Scat Pack. If you don't plan to drive it much and don't plan on trying to race light to light swing for the fences and buy the Hellcat but in all honesty there is not a street cut tire that is going to handle that amount of power on a normal road. The Hellcat and Demon are trophy cars of for someone who is serious about going to the drag strip. Just saying.

      The Blacktop edition is just an appearance package. The stock Hemi is what's under the hood. Same horesepower as the hemi that is in a charger without the Blacktop package. What makes your son's car feel like there is more horsepower is the super track pack. It's just better gear ratio in the rear end that gives better performance off the line.

    I just bought a DD R/T and I like the idea of the small incremental upgrades. Rather than tying up the bulk of my fun money in the loan payment and insurance I can buy some bolt-ons every few months and enjoy the new feel of each upgrade. Each time you pickup 20-30 HP it feels like a brand new car. I know this is not a direct comparison being an SUV but we’re having the same conversations in the Durango R/T & SRT FB groups. Honestly I’m not necessarily shooting for SRT or Hellcat numbers, I just like tuning aspects of owning a MOPAR vehicle. Full disclosure I was an aircraft mechanic for 20+ years so I can do most of the work that would intimidate a lot of people. I doubt that I will go as far as forced induction but who knows what’ll happen when I finally hit the limit of NA upgrades. For now I’m just enjoying the journey. Great video!😊

    There's a few great points made in this video. I've owned a fully loaded 2016 5.7 Shaker M6, and loved cruising in it. It sounded great, but power was low. The 1/4 mile was about 13 seconds, and I could get around 28-30 MPG on the highway.
    I wanted a little more power, and started looking at Scats during the pandemic. Inventory was low, and couldn't find what I wanted. A Scat pack shaker in M6 in blue or sinimon stick. Looked for months and only found 2 in the country that matched up. One in VA and the other in PA about an hour from me in Ohio.
    I ended up buying a Jeep Gladiator at the time, because it fit a need.
    About 3 months later a 2021 SP 1320 showed on a truck at the local dealership. I ended up buying that car, and trading the wife's 2017 Charger SXT +. There are differences in every generation of mopar muscle. From sounds to performance. It really comes down to what you like, what you plan on doing with it, and your driving style.
    The RT is a nice starter Hemi, and some people like it. Others like myself, like not having to put $$$$ to get the same performance the Scat put down. Remember, a tuned 6.4 will always be faster than a 5.7 that's modified. Unless you heavily mod the 5.7 to beat a stock 6.4.. that's able to be done, but seems like you're throwing away money honestly.
    But like I said, it's what you like or prefer.. too each their own..

  • @kelvinbrown4274

    The only real problem I saw was the price comparison, I have a 15 challenger hellcat manual, the only option it doesn't have is a sunroof, it was right around 70k brand new, the same car today is over 100k thats more like 3 rts for the price of one hellcat. I also owned a rt custom and currently have a rt magnum. It's my firm opinion that no one should buy a rear wheel drive car w over 400 hp unless they are extremely comfortable w the back wheels spinning. You were correct, in stock form, neither the 5.7 or the 6.4 like boost at all. If you are planning on horsepower mods either a new car or a warranty need to go out the window, unless you get the direct connection parts almost anything you add will void your warranty. Also something no one ever addresses, the hellcat will actually get you the most power at the cheapest price, even if you plan on mods. A hellcat w cat back, cold air, and a tune will put you in the 8s at the crank 7s at the wheel. All under warranty, the intake and exhaust aren't covered by the warranty and therefore can't be voided, the tune, they can't tell if it's got a tune in it or not.

On average for the widebody scat packs compared to the widebody hellcats Ive only noticed a price difference of about 10-20k which isnt too big of a gap considering what you get comparatively. Even the dealerships now are trying to mark up the heck out of the RT's Ive seen most of the RTs around me going for 43-48k and the regular scatpacks starting around 52k. The market is crazy right now but if you can find an honest dealership you can probably walk away with a widebody scat for 62ish or even a hellcat for around 77.

    I've drove GT, RT, Scat, And hellcat. I'll save the GT for last since most of us say to hell with a V6 in a boat.
    RT I had for 2 years and it was so fuckin fun and fun to mod as well, plenty of power with rails to keep you from wrecking and great for learning the big V8s and it was amazing on gas mileage if I hit it alot if refill at 300 miles or if I cruised around I'd get 24+ so 400-500 miles I got in a tank once and getting up to speed took almost nothing and it sounded amazing. The scats. I've drove 3 and it was actually the first one I drove, I didn't like it cause it had too much power for me at first and so I went to buy my RT. Second scat was 1 1/2 years later test drove it 4 times and loved it, all but the exhaust it was quieter (RT and scat had stock) and it's 0-60 wasn't a big difference atleast not to add on 25k onto what I was already paying just to own a scat that wasn't much different, though it did have more torque and it threw me back and was fun but it wasn't enough, third scat, used 40k only adding 10k to what I had owed it was mid muffler delete and idk I didn't like the sound much and it wheel hopped like crazy (this one had 245s) and the speakers were worn to hell because at 20 it sounded like my RTs at 8 so I turnt it down and stopped looking for 6 months. Overall I don't like the scat (for myself) I'd rather go for the RT if I'm going NA, (but to add to what you said RTs can handle 9lbs boost pushing the safe limit but most only run 7-8 without getting low end) and scats can only push 3 safely, 5-6 is if you tap the throttle a lil too hard you're going boom. Anyone you know running that without forged internals is running a timebomb. Now onto the hellcat I currently own I got it 3 months ago at 2017 53k and 33k miles (lots of miles sure but it's in great condition) and I have fell in love with it. My insurance went from 200(3 vehicles) to 330 (also 3) and the power is crazy, I ran it in eco mode for the first 2 weeks until I learned the power and now I drive in full 700 all the time and as long as I'm not playing it gets a great(for the engine size) 19-22 mpg and if I play I get 15-17 and definitely find myself at the gas station a lil more often. But the fun is immense. If you have an RT I'd just go for a used hellcat if you can handle the power, don't wreck it for the rest of us please. The RT and Scat difference is so little in actual street practice that you might as well get the one with great gas mileage and pretty solid HP but if you're looking for a track car get the scat and forge internals and run a supercharger. Easily makes 900+ I've heard some boosting theirs with 11 and making 1200hp. Now the GT ( I know who cares right) this was the second challenger I've driven and it was fun and punchy but it got TERRIBLE GAS mileage because it takes so much to get it up to speed and unless you're driving it like a civic you're pissing gas out. Overall wouldn't have been happy if I settled for that instead of going for the RT which I recommend anyone get the RT (though remember they're not made to be beaten on 24/7 like the scat and cat) you may want to build the engine up a bit if you plan on slamming the gas light to light all day (that's where people blow the 5.7s so easily) remember everyone watch your oil temps! Don't hammer it if it's over 230 it's not worth it!

    • @Muchacho77
      @Muchacho77 Рік тому +3

    • @RichHomieKings
      @RichHomieKings Рік тому +2

      @@Muchacho77 yeah I noticed anything over 80 was much faster with the scats but like I said in street practice the RT is overall the better choice cause let's be real, most of us aren't going over 80 in day to day travel unless you ride the interstate to work. Scats are cool but for the gas mileage and performance difference I think the 5.7 would do just fine especially with the prices now, 19+ scats are more than used 2017-18 cats (we don't talk about the 2015-2016 problem years with the cats)

This means if you build it you now have a forged cammed hellcat block capable of some extreme power numbers, much more so than any stock internal hellcat. Although if your trying to go cheap a 5.7 will do fine. But they run their problems as well like mds, valve seats in the head dropping, in sufficient oil pump, exhaust leaks from crap manifolds ect.

    I don't get it, I've driven a scatpack 3 times in sport and track mode and was not impressed at all so bought a new 5.7. I've seen multiple rt people beat scat's with just a few additions to the engines as well so it sold me with overall value for a daily driver. As far as building an engine I've seen rt's and hellcats as better options also. My gf even drove my car for 5 months and laughed on how slow the scat was... however my first car was a 5.0 foxbody mustang so I could care less about scats lol.

    Great content! I started with a 5.7 Shaker Challenger for years, then I took B Mason's advice and traded for a new Scat Pack Challenger with the HP 70 Auto Tranny. You are correct, way less money difference to just get a Scat then modding with bolt ons with the 5.7.

    Buy the Scatpack. You'll regret not having the extra power. The 392 is the sweet spot as far as HP. It's enough to light up the tires but not too much like the Hellcat. You can launch a Scatpack without spinning tires for 200 feet.

    I own four Dodge Chargers 2006 2014 2015 and now my 2020. The two hemi was all right cuz I just like Dodge. But there was nothing like the bank for the buck for the 2015 Scat Pack and now that I have a 20/20 Scat Pack. Car is a good investment. Take care of and don't drive it a lot it'll be worth money one day.

    I’m js if you got a 5.7 and want a solid ass deal 3,500 dollars for a front mount turbo setup with everything you need, my buddy builds them and his challenger makes over 550 to the wheels. He’s been running that setup for over a year and had 0 issues. Simple setup. If you’re under warranty, it’s simple enough that you can quickly uninstall everything and make it stock again. If you have questions he will respond to you immediately! This is his business!

    Fun fact, a base model RT and base model Scat have the same 0-60….that being said I wouldn’t bother with a scat without the dynamics package which puts you in the mid 50s right off the bat.
    Of course scat has more top end but the RT is also severely restricted up top thanks to crappy intake manifold and log style headers(scat has shorties and better flowing intake), the ram 5.7 has 30hp more with just a different intake manifold and presumably slightly different tuning.
    Another point if you just want the scat sound, put a scat pack exhaust on a 5.7 sounds the same as a scat just faster idle.
    And one more, the fastest Mopar drag package is a 5.7, if I remember right it’s like high 7’s in the 1/4 and not quite base hellcat power. Gutted I’m sure tho but still.

    • @stephenmartin5766
      @stephenmartin5766 Рік тому

      @@captainamericaandcaptainma3337 overall the RT is cheaper, the mods to make a scat and RT even used to even out the cost but not sure that’s the case anymore given how expensive scats have gotten. Plus insurance is like half the cost on an RT
      And the RT is a good 300-350lbs lighter
