I have Tourette’s, and I recently found out I had it, it started with my face twitching and it turned into my head shaking, me yelling hey at other people and saying gibberish. It is really annoying especially when I am walking through the store. And I am about to get a job in a few weeks so I am preparing for that. So I can tell you it is really annoying. I don’t want to be at the McDonald’s register yelling HEY at people, but I got to work somewhere.
The saddest part, to me, is how difficult this disease/illness most likely makes relationships. Even with family, I could see it interfering. Think about how annoyed you can get just from simple things your family/friends do. Now imagine living with someone with tourretes. I can imagine social interactions with new people can be very draining for everyone. Not saying I view these people as lesser, just saying that for myself personally (and I'm sure for anyone else) these tics would get annoying at a certain point, maybe even anger inducing, which is made worse since these people have no control over it. I legitimately cannot imagine living with that.
I think if people were understanding enough and if you truly cared about the person with tourettes if you were living with them, you'd learn to adapt, block their tics out if they ever annoyed you and love that person just the same. And of course it could be annoying for you but imagine how they feel. You can get away from the sounds and movements they make, they can't

I'm lucky enough to have a boyfriend who is so patient about it. I have got him (not too hard, but still), told him plenty of rude things, and he still stands by me. When the get bad, he helps me with then. I couldn't have asked for someone better.

Less than 20% of people affected by Tourette shout insults, but they exist, it's called coprolalie (french name again), caused by defects in the wiring of the brain.

I know a Tourette’s and now she is in her 20s she has become a lovely young lady. She is doing so well. She looks after two apartment blocks in Lloydminster . She lives on her own near to her Aunts and not far from her folks , and grandma and grandpa. We wondered how she would ever make it. Had lots of bullies in school but would give speeches in front of the class. She did pretty good in her classes. She is a very smart gal. We all love her.

GOD NO!!! And I apologize if I offend. I grew up with a disabled father . Him and I used to make light of it. Just showing that we are not all that different / slash my friends and I greet each other like this sometimes.
I'd love to be a friend with these people, not to laugh at them, but because their life was so hard and just imagining all the things they went trough is insane. But positive side of that is that all of them are so friendly, so nice and really smart people, exactly because that hard life taught them to be strong and go trough all those bad things. That makes best of a quality human being.

I have Tourette's. Since it manifested at a young age in an abusive household, my tics (constant head shaking and some vocal tics: think a compulsion to hit a note just higher than you can actually hit so you can't satisfy the urge) were something of a trigger for harm to come to me, so I had to learn over time to conceal them. I actually did learn to ignore most of the compulsions, but I sometimes still do shake my head too hard, and I often bounce on the balls of my feet for no reason while sitting. My message for people who don't have it is not to judge the people in this video or make fun of them. It causes all of us a great deal of physical strain to hold them back at all if we can, and we're all ostracized enough in society as it is. Thanks for coming to my TED Talk

Additionally, I have an awesome girlfriend that I imagine I'll probably be married to. I think personally that victim mentality can destroy anyone, and that the "breakthrough" is realizing that everyone goes through things, and God makes us stronger than those things for a purpose.
I feel like I have a very mild case of it like head shaking, random posing?? until I’m satisfied, breathing patterns (lots of exhaling, inhaling) and I don’t stop until I’ve done it enough times to be satisfied. It pisses me off, I feel like I’m out of control of my own body. I can control enough to not do it in public though.

I know a Tourette’s and now she is in her 20s she has become a lovely young lady. She is doing so well. She looks after two apartment blocks in Lloydminster . She lives on her own near to her Aunts and not far from her folks , and grandma and grandpa.
We wondered how she would ever make it. Had lots of bullies in school but would give speeches in front of the class. She did pretty good in her classes. She is a very smart gal. We all love her.
I actually feel bad for people with tourettes because their social life must be kinda hard...😭

I'd love to be a friend with these people, not to laugh at them, but because their life was so hard and just imagining all the things they went trough is insane.
But positive side of that is that all of them are so friendly, so nice and really smart people, exactly because that hard life taught them to be strong and go trough all those bad things. That makes best of a quality human being.

I have Tourette's. Since it manifested at a young age in an abusive household, my tics (constant head shaking and some vocal tics: think a compulsion to hit a note just higher than you can actually hit so you can't satisfy the urge) were something of a trigger for harm to come to me, so I had to learn over time to conceal them. I actually did learn to ignore most of the compulsions, but I sometimes still do shake my head too hard, and I often bounce on the balls of my feet for no reason while sitting. My message for people who don't have it is not to judge the people in this video or make fun of them. It causes all of us a great deal of physical strain to hold them back at all if we can, and we're all ostracized enough in society as it is. Thanks for coming to my TED Talk

@@oladujajosephine2775 Honestly, it's not that big of a deal. I'm still a successful person with Tourette's. I have a nice job in IT, and plan to make a career out of it. Additionally, I have an awesome girlfriend that I imagine I'll probably be married to. I think personally that victim mentality can destroy anyone, and that the "breakthrough" is realizing that everyone goes through things, and God makes us stronger than those things for a purpose.
I feel like I have a very mild case of it like head shaking, random posing?? until I’m satisfied, breathing patterns (lots of exhaling, inhaling) and I don’t stop until I’ve done it enough times to be satisfied. It pisses me off, I feel like I’m out of control of my own body. I can control enough to not do it in public though.
