Mr. Purdie is one of the most important names in the History of Drumming. He's a comet of groove, peace and love that fell onto earth and graced us all with his beautiful music.
I saw these guys'show in Búzios RJ in 2004!! It was the best show in my life!!! Remembe how I was fascinated for the guitarrist and the drumer, in that time I din't know who they are hahahahha!! Fantastic, Grant Green that I love, only now I discover that was him!!! i just star to listen jazz that time.
Love these guys they are great pals see my son Ben Steele playing with them when he was 18, 16, and 9 yrs old at jazz cafe Ronnie Scotts wouldn't let anyone else on stage this summer but Ben went down to meet them as usual and chill with Grant and the guys they have been so suportive since he was 9
I saw Pretty Purdie play with Jeff Beck in 1975. It was the Blow by Blow tour. It was in LA with Mahavishnu. Ground breaking music and Purdie rocked the house. Very great concert.
Mahavishnu. . .so ahead of their time that the world has still not caught up with them. Give it another 100 years and the kids will be cranking Mahavishnu out of their flying car pod sound systems.
1. Holy Smokes !!! - Grant Green Jr sure has Come onto his Own on the Guitar - let alone being THE Mr Grant Green's son. WOW !!! 😃 2. A real "Jimi Hendrix" on the Vibes - Man !!!
With that rhythm section, the vibes player could have juggled his mallets while doing flips, the clarinet player could have honked at random from asthma, and they could have let a bagpiper and a banjo player sit in and the groove would not have fallen apart...
Eu estava lá também! E era dia do rock! O único senão é que o sax do Mascarenhas estava mais alto que qualquer outra coisa, e o cara queria solar todas! Mas o Purdie estava lá, já era o bastante!
This is high art. This is, what I mean with "Jazz": The bassist has canceled 5min to Gig-start with an e-mail, the youth on clarinet is encouraged (but once without a working mic), Grandmaster Bernie sits behind the drums and the man at vibes has taken a nice energy drink. So take next time better care for your feet, Brother! And what do we learn from this: "On Broadway" is really good as 15 min piece;)
Bernard for years great drummers would tell me stores. about how these drummer.s came up with monster groovs to this and that song. and they where right. Mr Pretty I think you are the master of funk. im going to put some time and learn your style it can only make me a better player. Thank you so much.......................Dwayne480 on youtube.
I think the microphone used to record this just couldn't pick up the clarinet very well. They guy seems to know what hes doing based on what little I could hear.
My guess: the godfathers of groove wanted to demonstrate: You just don't need a clarinet if you're grooving already.. And me too, I'd like to know who's doing the vibes ....
we all are according to science, just only the darker variety has rhythm, athleticism, moves. Shoot fire now, white guys loose the under bite and dance.
+MAD “SKRILLABOYZ” SKRILLA I know , especially the Dutch dudes , with average height of 180 cm I guess , so I may suggest that an easy way to sort immigrants is by looking at their height , eh?

Twelve and a half minutes of untouchable groove. This is what I was born to listen to...
Man, the guitar player just put a groove in may soul.
Guitar player’s Grant Green Jr. His father was among the greatest ever to touch the instrument.
Thank you for sharing with us this wonderfull moment
Incredible. Thanks for posting!!
Let's start off the day with the Godfathers of Groove: Bernard "Pretty" Purdie, Grant Green Jr. & Ruben Wilson. Some great #jazzmusic for the morning.
Yes indeed x
Reuben Wilson R.I.H. 🙏🎵🎹🕯️🕊️💙

Some kick ass jamming is going out there :D Good job guys!

The Percussionist made the whole show for me!
1. Holy Smokes !!! - Grant Green Jr sure has Come onto his Own on the Guitar - let alone being THE Mr Grant Green's son. WOW !!! 😃
2. A real "Jimi Hendrix" on the Vibes - Man !!!
Huh?
YEAH!!
Blues kakkdick, this is kickass.. all the solos, incredible!
Never seen so much passion about a vibraphone before...
And I guess tambourine rhythm.
who is he?
カッコエエー!
人間と魂と楽器が一つになってる!
god damn bernard is such a damn groove meister
He's got the vibe..., wauw
Amazing!
yeah! It's very common in trios and other groups for the organ to play the bassline :D
moves like a steam train .....smooth and ellegant
i want the vibes to make a come back in music !! i want a vibes player !
With that rhythm section, the vibes player could have juggled his mallets while doing flips, the clarinet player could have honked at random from asthma, and they could have let a bagpiper and a banjo player sit in and the groove would not have fallen apart...
so true! The vibraphonist was just there for the show!
Just for show, A B ? He was jamming and doing tricks.
Long live the groove!
right
Omg.. Couldn’t have stated it better..Pretty is just killin’ it!!
totally contagious ahhhhh groove
It is so great groooooooooooooooove
I notice GG Jr plays some parts a lot like his dad, I love em both! Pretty is sweet! I could have sat in on bass. They could carry me.
aaaaaahhh . . . . junior. i was confused af
Fantastic, who is on Percussion, does he could be working with Morris Day and The Time?
I live in Rochester NY. No more clubs like Sheps paradise to see this great stuff anymore.
bernard purdie, what a guy!
ahh so sweet love it
"Godfathers of Groove" says it all.
Pure class....1luv 😎
I never though that I would say this, but that xylophone solo (1:21-3:18) is killer!
Caleb Householder It gets easier after you say it that first time. Like..."killer accordion solo!!" It' the same thing.
+Peter Vred you do have a point, good sir.
+Caleb Householder Its a vibraphone
+Ian Kurlan whoops, I'm sorry. But regardless, the solo on that vibraphone sounds incredible.
+Walt Coyle Or Mike Manieri with Steps Ahead....
These are some awesome gubbs!
Sensacional, tipo de música que aprecio e os solos dos excelentes músicos são maravilhosos com muito swing.
maravilloso
El vibrafonista se parece a Lionel Hampton
I really love the vocal equalizing of guitar playing.
Wow. What more can you say?
that vibrophone player is badass
Lionel is Back in Town.!
they brought gtrant back frm the dead incredible
There are not enough videos from Bernard on UA-cam!!! 🙈
pure sweetness!!!!
Wow. Yes, who was the guy on vibes??? Great to see Grant Green alive, happy and well!
GG Junior, not quite the same.
Wow, they are playing on March 30-31. I knew they must be from the future...
Belle performance ! ça joue et c'est bon !
Wow, these guys really are godfathers.
garovvvvvvveeeeeee. fantastic....
It'd be fun to see the vibes guy jamming with Leo P. - just to see who could go more over-the-top with the showmanship, and still play music.
Thumbs up anyone seeing Godfathers at Ronnie Scotts in June!
Great trio! (I think the clarinet dude must have been the club owners son)
THAT POCKET😎..BERNARD THE DRUM MACHINE PURDIE
great video but they need to show Bernard when he takes his solo
Eu estava lá também! E era dia do rock! O único senão é que o sax do Mascarenhas estava mais alto que qualquer outra coisa, e o cara queria solar todas!
Mas o Purdie estava lá, já era o bastante!
so smooth--- next to this, silk worms spin burlap
Jason "Malletman" Taylor on vibes.
This was a super performance! I was @ Iridium the day this took place. Second set of the night. Would you be having any more of these from that day?
just watched the whole video and still don't konw what the clarinet player played
Hey he got 2 notes into the mic!
@@DiscoFang simplicity is key
The clarinet solo was exquisite. Completely overshadowed the rest.
This video could last several hours and I would still say that it was too short.
Fucking magic.. Vibes player is having it off! Super cool and quite funny
GROOVE MASTERS
This is high art. This is, what I mean with "Jazz":

15 min piece;)
SABROSISIMOS
Cool to hear GG scat singing too.
Who is that on xylophone?
looks like smooth jazz
Pretty Purdie shows how it's done.
You really dont expect someone else to google that do you?
Grant Green had a son that is also a guitarist?! Mind = blown.
1:20 didn't expect that;)
Bernard for years great drummers would tell me stores. about how these drummer.s came up with monster groovs to this and that song. and they where right. Damn these beers "my" soul
I think the microphone used to record this just couldn't pick up the clarinet very well. They guy seems to know what hes doing based on what little I could hear.
he's playing "air clarinette".
Who is playing the vibes?
who's at the vibraphone???
if you can make people dance you got a gig
I want to 'like' this video every minute again ! Damn .. Thats hot !
looks like fun
Who’s the guy on vibes?
Sweet!
Young Howard Stern on the clarinet.
rustybones99 Hey now!
They don't have a bass player? Is the organ player doing all the basslines?
Did someone buy that kid a place on stage with his clarinet for his birthday? What on earth is he doing up there?
+John Clark He's playing.
He sorta played the outro and pretended to be black.
He was actually playing pretty damn well but clearly has zero clues about microphones and amplification. Looked a bit like first-time stage fright.
My guess: the godfathers of groove wanted to demonstrate: You just don't need a clarinet if you're grooving already.. And me too, I'd like to know who's doing the vibes ....
Is this show at the " Baked Potato" ??
jack means It's the Iridium Jazz Club on Broadway & 51st Street in Manhattan.
This is WAY nicer than the baked potato...the potato is a dump.
♥♥♥
reuben wilson on B3!!
who's playing xilophone?
i wanna be black now
we all are according to science, just only the darker variety has rhythm, athleticism, moves. Shoot fire now, white guys loose the under bite and dance.
According to WHAT science? Show me any scientific work (if there is any) or stop believing any information just found on the internet.
tell me about it , not because of music, but they are really damn tall mostly , I just want to be tall , seriously
White Europeans (northern and central) are the tallest people on the planet by far
+MAD “SKRILLABOYZ” SKRILLA I know , especially the Dutch dudes , with average height of 180 cm I guess , so I may suggest that an easy way to sort immigrants is by looking at their height , eh?
Hats off to purple suit xylophone guy.
2:18 AWESOME
So, who is the bells player anyhow? I've never seen a showman quite like him on the bells before.

newislandguitar Thanks!!!
While the guy on the Xylophone was getting off was anyone else thinking of the cat daddy? :D
Get that oboe player out of the way of PURDIE! You're just going to stand in front of the kit as the man solos? Bad etiquette
That's a clarinet, moron.
jazz master
Why was the clarinet guy even there?
It wasn't his gig. I think he was a guest.
purdie good !!!!!!
Funky as fuck
