As a young student singer I actually played one of Lescaut's 2 guards in that RNCM production with Simon as Lescaut. I also sat next to him often in German class with our tutor Josephine Barber when i got to appreciate his sense of humor. Haven't seen him since college, but let me tell you he is the real thing - a very sincere, funny and talented individual. Success has not spoiled him. Great chap!
Simon, I've sent my male students to listen to you (sing) for years, and now I must say that I am deeply impressed by your thoughtfulness and vulnerability - humility and passion about your craft. Bravo. Blessings on you. Ken
So wonderful to hear such candor AND common sense. And unlike some of the others in his profession, he is not even trying to please everyone and become the fairy godfather to all. Wish more were as genuine.
He's disarmingly down to earth and unpretentious. I love his parodies of stuffy, pretentious types at various points--he's a good mimic. He seems like the kind of guy you could go out to a pub with and down a pint.
It’s interesting to see how shy and soft spoken he is off stage and how different he sounds: it has an almost tenor like light quality to it. Although, it should be noted that he actually began training as a tenor in his 20’s and went to music school with Simon Russell Beale, who also was originally training to be an opera singer before he became an actor.
You are right. What a breath of fresh air. And he is married to a charming, intelligent and beautiful woman, Zenaida Yanowsky, until recently dancing as a Principal with the Royal Ballet and now coaching and mentoring younger dancers. Just a mind-blowingly lovely and so talented couple.
I cann't agree more. I wish no Opera in the world would ever have Hvorostovsky on their stage. Simon has a lovely voice I could listen to his singing all day, such a good actor on the stage as well.
Simon may not speak as fluently as he wishes ( who does? ) but his accents are known to be fantastic - certainly his French singing is absolutely flawless. Even Kristin Scott Thomas who lived there for over 25 years and is fluent, when she speaks, reveals the fact that she was not born and raised in France.
Suzanne Derringer Does any of the personal information in their interviews matter for that matter? If you don’t want to know anything about anyone’s personal life, don’t watch this channel!!!! 😁
@@dramaturge231 You're taking this very hard. Who someone chooses to love or live with, or who their friends are, is nobody's business unless they want to share that information explicitly.
Suzanne Derringer I’m not taking it hard. You’re the one that started the criticism. 🙂 Also, I haven’t seen every episode, so how am I supposed to know that they haven’t previously stated it? I was just curious. Calm down.
This was a total joy to listen to this singer who is as articulate verbally as he is vocally and physically on the stage.

Simon, intelligent, charming and a great artist... He is absolutely amazing!
Terrific human. A delight to watch and hear his chat.

He is a fantastic man! I would love to meet and talk to him... I've already seen him live and he was simply mesmerising!

Wonderful artist! Love his singing

I am looking forward to his coming back. Not many committed artists like him around.
Simón Is so charming and intelligent. I love this interview.

Wow. How intelligent is that singer!
Wonderful!!!🙏❤️🙏❤️🎶👏
What a Man! Simon!
He is now Sir Simon Keenlyside CBE
I would pay to hear his description of HOW he accomplishes those COLORS physically and mentally.......big time info there! Write a book Simon!!!!!!
Enjoy this interview.

I'm curious why you dislike Hvorostovsky. Would just like to hear your opinion.
Einer der guten Sänger....
This guy seems pretty cool. He's so handsome for a British opera singer.
Cos British opera singers are famously hideous.........

It could be that he’s very shy when he’s not on stage…
@TheCraigMann I know they work at the Met. I don't know much else.
He's the sexiest and cutest opera singer that I've ever seen. Most are good but not good looking. This one's really a great singer, and he's handsome.
Thank you, cponiair for uploading this. Simon Keenlyside is a fascinating artist and person. Please pardon my ignorance, but who are Bing and Dennis?
Great comment on the airconditioning in america!!!
Simon is kinda like an opera version of Martin Freeman to me. Maybe it's the nose.
His speaking voice is completely different to what I expected...
This guys sounds a lot like me. is he a lyric baritone?
Yes, a lighter baritone.
Are Bing and Dennis together?
Does that matter?

Doesn't he sound like Johnny Depp?
Very funny and shrewd indeed!
Johnny sounds like him!
