I love how straightforward Inkscape is. This is a very cool effect, but created so simply. Thanks so much for continuing to share your expertise, these videos are both inspirational and educational!!
It always feel that way when you watch a master doing it!
You can also mouse over the path. When a hand appears if you click then you'll select that path, and its connected nodes. You can also do ctrl+alt+left click to add a node to a path. You can ctrl+click a node to make it smooth for the bottom edge of the drips if it isn't already a smooth node.

EDIT: Solution! Whilst the "Edit paths by nodes" button is selected, hover the cursor over the node. Simply roll the mouse wheel upward (not downward) without clicking. The handles will appear. If you keep rolling the wheel, all of the other nodes' handles will start to appear as well.
At 2:48 whether I hold Ctrl or not and begin dragging the node, the handles don't appear. After dragging and releasing, I have to hold Ctrl again and click on the node for the handles to appear. But that also causes the node to automatically become rounded. However, the handles on the other two nodes above still don't appear. I have to apply the same method of holding Ctrl and clicking on them. They too become rounded with the handles appearing, but that distorts the entire side of the letter. What can I do to just get the handles to appear?
How can i add the handles to my nodes if it doesnt show up on my computer

Inkscape is scriptable with python.It's called extensions. inkscape.org/develop/extensions/

Anything you make in Inkscape already is an svg. Just go to file -> save as

Just save your document then restart Inkscape. It should appear then.
