- Uncle Larry sticks his hand way down to the bottom of the VCB bucket, and plays a few riffs on an early double cut variant of the model 6136 Gretsch which most folks know as the White Falcon.
oh....and here's one for all the guys that still think Eddie Van Halen invented tapping.
• Jimmie Webster Guitar ...
Larry’s pep talk in the morning is like finding a second hash brown in your McDonalds order. Have a great day Tommy
😂😂😂
Uncle Larry you are a treasure. I feel like listening to you is like listening to a best friend talking. Thanks for being you.
thanks Ronnie my boy
@@501chorusecho I have been listening for a long while. Thought I’d tell ya
Agreed. Keeping it real, calling it straight
"they live for 120 years ....which I may not have left " followed by a long pregnant pause as he gazes wistfully off into space . Speaks volumes about the nature of mortality, pet care and the great beyond . This channel is a full service provider .
Interesting pause
We hit another dimension of humanity for a split second with Larry on that one ha
yeah, always interesting and thought provoking phrasing 👍
…Perhaps contemplating the brief moment of existence between two eternities…a reflective Uncle, that ol’ Larry
@@Only1Feckitt pondering the afterlife like leaving a whole note rest in the music .
“Some douche bag in a garage”. Lol. Hilarious. You rock uncle Larry. 😂
Good morning! Love your playing! Especially your cool chord voicings. My grandad was Howard Roberts, (wrecking crew alumni),so I really appreciate the “real deal” session knowledge you’ve been sharing. I’m not a super jazz cat, more fusion and rock, and folk. Howard taught me about chord melody, and good tone quality. So….It’s so nice to hear someone delivering up the same serious jewels to todays guitar aficionados!! Thanks!
Wow, I remember your granddad's Guitar Player magazine columns on Jazz Improv in the 80s.
Homage to your grandad, a great musician.
Whoa how cool is that?
He was the master. Owned his Gibson Fusion III for many years. Great guitar.
I’ve wanted a Fusion III, a black one, forever ❤
Like a nice breath of fresh air, Mr. Tom Bukovac never disappoints.
Great way to start the day, thanks for the video first thing in the morning.
Can’t wait to hear the Album!!!!! Thanks for sharing Desert Man!
Thanks Tom for all that you do for us Homeskoolers.
Taking us on trips to shows and shops. We are so lucky to have you friend! Thank you!
I Always get excited when a new offering from the Bukovac Musical Foundry pops in!!
Cheers!
Tom,I sure enjoy you playing and the stories. You are the kind of player that makes this town so cool.
The definition of authenticity, you can just sit there and play and the sound rolls out of your guitar like it's already there. Wouldn't matter if you had backing or not, in front of a crowd or in a studio... Beautiful playing
thank you dood
Great post… quite a few subliminal/fun chuckles baked in which I really dig. Have a great week Larry!
Awesome vibes. Love the high dollar Uncle Larry chords 🤘🏼
What we really need, mr. Bukovac, is a jazz album by Tom Bukovac. Or two. Love your music. Big thanks from Amsterdam.
Honestly, one of the sweetest blues I ever heard.
Absolutely love your ramblings , Tom . Loving that Gretsch too !
I can't wait to hear the album you & Guthrie are releasing. The clips you & G have shared sound great!
Congratulations on that beautiful White Falcon man. that's a bucket list axe for me !🎉🎉🎉🎉
yes we luv your playing! it's very great vibes keep us homeskoolers here as often as we can.
Watching these videos is like sitting down with Uncle Larry at his house every morning for a coffee and guitar lesson and a chat. Love this channel Larry. Never stop man.
Love that new guitar, it's got soul! Cheers!
You had your cup at an angle and I read "rip the itch". made me laugh and I needed that today...thanks
WP Falcon, 1 of 1. Very exclusive.
Great show, great humor, insights and thoughts Tom. TB and GT! Going to be excellent. Thanks! 'Hot slab of 1645'
Hi Tom! I've been fan of your playing ever since I found that white Jeff Senn strat video, 14 years ago. And still a big fan of your playing and your cool guitar-stories! :) Cheers from the Netherlands.
Beautiful playin'...beautiful guitar Tom. You have great taste & a great ear.....oh yea & great time....& great feel.....oh yea...& great dexterity.
A snapping turtle with a 2 foot long shell just passed away on my lawn. I live on a river.
Uncle Larry, this video is timely as I just bought a one owner 2004 Gretsch White Falcon with a Bigsby. Two volumes, master volume and the two switches as yours. Mine has the bridge that has adjustable wheels for string spacing. This guitar has been on my bucket list and at 74 my dream has come true. I call it the Liberace of guitars. Peace....
Awesome lil'brother... Love your thoughts!
So Tom,
The first time I read the name Tom Bukovac was after learning 60 plus top 40 country tunes. I was a rock guy before and you opened my eyes. There always seemed to be this theme of tasteful and intentional playing . I could always tell without looking at the credits ..Tom must of have played on this and sure enough. Ive been Learning your parts for what now seems like years. You have brought a breathe of fresh air into country music ( and many other genres). There is a high watermark in Nashville but not from a flood. But from our dear Uncle Larry. Thank you for letting us into your world.
08:45 - It’s the timing here which hits me dead in the heart as much as your playing Larry. God bless you, Sir.
Hey Uncle Larry,
I discovered your channel by accident. You once described a Shelby Lynn album as a gift to humanity. I feel the same about your channel. I’m about the same age as you, as I imagine a lot of your viewers are. Playing guitar well has always been pulling at me, but my life has been preoccupied handling other work / family responsibilites. Important for sure, but I realized recently that the only real regret I’ve had so far is not really learning how to play for real. However, at 53, if I’m lucky I’ve got another 35-40 years left. If I put the work in (and I will) I can still get there. Anyway- thanks for being such a positive and inspiring guy on both guitars and life. The idea of having the 2nd half of life to become great might resonate with your middle aged guys and girls like me!
So Very Cool, Thankyou. Awesome Playing as always. Love Gretsch and dream of a White Falcon. Have a black solid body single cut single pickup Rock Machine G5215, and a G5248T Gold Top Double Jet Chambered Body with Bigsby. Both are totally Amazing Guitars with their individual personalities, immaculately built and such a pleasure to play. SO Awesome. A Gretsch Hollowbody is in my Future, one day. Love the Show. Cheers
Yes can't wait for the new album
The White Falcon is nearly as beautiful as what was just played on it. And speaking of beautiful, the Jimmie Webster tune was so much so. He had a very melodic two hand tapping style. Thanks Uncle Larry, for enlightening the Class to this fantastic musician!
Thanks for taking a second Tom, have a great day!
I think a guy also can benefit from having a guy who you have learned to love because he is totally chill and down to earth , professional as can be but never flaunts his ability that can teach you about guitar . Licks , chords, life , and of course vintage football cards. I have sure benefited from having my go to guy when it comes to that stuff. Thanks Tom enjoy your day....
awwwww
Can’t wait for the new album!
Hey Tom, great seeing you with a real falcon at last :-) In 1960 they had a batch of 100 Falcons starting @ 36800 and ending 36900 . This batch had the last single cuts but also introduced the doublecut shape and mute variations (first dial up then flip ctrls (some on singlecuts, too). My 36867 is a stereo DC - they were not numbered in a consecutive order - my single cut is 36879... Also, it is the first double cut mold they were doing, and you can see the cut shape on the first ones - and on the very first Gents too - is a bit different - very nice! cheers - keep tappin!
That was beautiful!
Mr. Bukovac, I’ve been listening from about the beginning, I’ve just turned 70 in April & I’ve became a instant follower. To be honest with you I haven’t taken all your lessons & learned a lot but not because of your teaching qualities, but homeskoolin has confirmed a lot more to me , since Feb.7th 64’ I like many many others entered into the garage band group and for the time we were not bad for about 4 yrs. & I became a carpenter after becoming a father but music & guitars have maintained importance in my life to the point that I use guitar and old & new music was just there and I’ve been in tune with the 60’s music from then until the present stuff which is becoming less about music and more about media approval. I’ve gone through rock to fusion to most of the trends that guitar drags you into. I was obsessed with guitars etc. and you have the same type of journey that I had standing in Sears wishing for my first guitar ending up being a Kent guitar not the cigarettes with a Kay amp the Silvertone amps were popular with us lower income family’s my guitar playing has kept me insane when life gets tough . But you represent to me who has so many guitar heroes ones that you’ve mentioned along with your appreciation of players and styles is what you mean to me I have loved, laughed at your antidotes and made me a musician that I’m so happy to show others why your appealing style covers many types of music to dig into. I have to much of the why’s your my chosen one to follow wether you care or not also your humbling attitude is another aspect of why guitarists like you . I’d love to meet you just to say just a few reasons why we’ll then thanks for time you’ve given us keep going I still have a few years left to be a punk and this messaged has turned out to be to long too
I enjoyed it.
Love the se longer, chatty ones too.
Feel like we are pals, hanging out.
Congrats with a awesome new guitar. Sounds killer.
I feel that string technology has come a long way in the 27years I've been playing. Those NYXL from D'addario can't be beat, imo. Thanks for the vid Uncle Larry.
Ole' Tommy Two Phones, we love it man. Keep em coming! Proud supporters here @501chorusecho
Love your talking!the fact you love turtles /tortoises and animals Is awesome !
Cant wait for the BukaTrap album, my 2 current favorites!
Never played a Gmaj7 like that. Very cool. Thanks so much.
Great laughs and great points.
My first known real memory of your playing is Trigger Hippy, but probably heard you on recordings that I never knew of. No matter what it's from though, I love your playing.
Back at ya' Larry! Great day here in NJ. Rehearsal tonight 6pm .. working hard on all the new songs. Blue skies and the birds are chirping. If it got any better, I don't think I could stand it.
Beautiful White Falcon, Tom! Eagerly awaiting the TB/GT (featuring Desert Man) album here.
Sweet as always uncle Larry!
Beautiful instrument
I dont collect baseball cards, but being a Georgia boy and Braves fan, its awesome that you got that Henry A card! 👍
As a long time Gretsch guy, whose only “ones that got away” were two big hollow Gretsch archtops, I could listen to you play one all day. Amazing Larry.
Best friends are best counted on one hand, can’t attribute the quote, but, truth.
Your list of needs, nailed it, no surprise there. Coming up with such a monster on the fly, solid…. let’s add sense of humor, a grill, and maybe…, just maybe… a pool (goals, ha).
Tom, thanks man, for all of it, all of the time.
right on my man
Thanks Tom
Always the best!
This space reserved for The Session Man! Cheers Tom!!
i'm so in love with "we lived here", again.
The face when you say " I don't understand women at all" and the Ricky Gervais kind of smirk. Priceless...
Love the snippet of Goodbye Porkpie what really dig the live version you did longtime ago
Originally I watched for the playing genius, now it’s a little of that, but now it’s the wisdom & nuanced Freudian slips. Pure gold!!
what a great perk! so deserved by uncle larry. yeah!
I think you may like this Uncle Larry going down my memory lane! I was fortunate enough to meet Stevie Wonder in an elevator at a Holiday Inn in St. Louis as a 6 year old in July of 1972. Pre Walter Payton, I was nothing but baseball and music. Stevie was opening for the Stones and my parents some how found a nanny to watch our delinquent young asses. Stevie and his band were staying there and my mom and pop bought them dinner and he was so gracious to them. a couple days later I was able to see Hammerin' Hank hit a dinger at Busch Stadium and I am pretty sure that Phil Niekro was on the mound that night for the Braves as well.
Professor as always beautiful tone clean playing.
I didn't get a message to say F# was the mystery cord! Lmao
So damn entertaining you are sir thanks
Thanks for the shout out Tom. I work for the AFM & SAG/AFTRA fund. I kinda lost it when I'm sitting here working when suddenly my favorite guitar player of late starts talking about us.
i love how you guys NEVER answer the phone....that's a good gag
@@501chorusecho Ha! I'll talk to them about that.
great to see you enjoying your white falcon dc perch (perk)
3:32 "Here's a 61 Gretsch White Privileged Falcon." 🤣🤣🤣
Hey Tom, I’m proud of you that you’re gunna get an eye test!!! You’re gunna love real glasses dude. Thank you for that EbMaj7 chord. I write ‘em down in my book & whenever I find time I’m gunna figure these guys out. Oh and the Hendrix/Jazz one too! That Desert Man taste sounded pretty great too. Thanks for doing all this stuff man! You keep me focused. Try a pair of Oakley frames after your eye test. You’ll know in half a second if you’re gunna like them or not. If you don’t you can rip me a new one. Thanks dude!!!
I love the location and position of the Gretsch master volume, to the point that I add it to all my archtops.
Very nice !
Classic, beautiful tone. As usual, from your heart and soul..........and of course, your touch.
Thank you bro that’s very sweet
Dude, I’ve been loving you since you smashed your finger and were playing in your garage!!!
Sounds so
Damn good!
I was just ogling the 3 P90 65 bird III on Reverb. This video popped up and now I'm ogling the 65 bird while contemplating the possibility of owning my own turtle. Cheers! ..and may your week be filled with good coffee and ample parking.
That tone is insane... damn!!!!
I saw some videos of Willie’s 90th B-Day…and there was uncle Larry on stage with all those Legends…right where he belongs!
Exactly! Tom's a legend as well.
Most of the videos I watched Tom got the majority of the comments 😂
Wish you could’ve heard him!
I hear uncle Larry just fine on the acoustic to “loving her was easier”….had a hard time seeing him though- I had something in my eye 😢.
You're right about the half & half, uncle Larry. When I travel, first stop is always a grocery store for a pint of the stuff to make the in-room coffee drinkable.
Session man always kills it with real-time live melodic playing... not just licks! 👋👋👋 Side note: Tim Pierce said the exact same think about studio parking in a 5 year old podcast with Dave Friedman... 🤣
LANOIS. I ran into him one time in his motorcycle gear. It was 8AM at a pancake place in Hollywood and my buddy and I were still awake; we had just finished the most BRUTAL 3-month production and were completely dazed & disoriented. Only a few nights before we had watched him just absolutely rip on that show 'Sessions at West 54th St' and now he just walks in at 8AM. It was literally a sign from God that there is life and art outside that particular gig we had just endured. I went over and told him how good it was too see him, especially under the circumstances... we had a laugh; he was very gracious.
Anyone who loves Lanois, make sure you grab a copy of his book 'Soul Mining: A Musical Life.' It had a very similar effect on me as watching Homeskoolin'!
Good to have more than one friend in case one dies. Sage advice. Love the character in that White Falcon as well as your life lessons. You deserve a dip in your neighbor's pool.
"...but they live for 120 years, which I may not have left...."
*stares off into the distance existentially before changing the subject*
Good to see someone who actually knows who Jimmie Webster is. He is also the guy responsible for Chet signing with Gretsch.
Regarding phones - I have two, a work phone and a personal one, and it’s a PIA! I’m always losing one. 😎
My personal obsession is I can’t stand the thought of not having at least two Gretsch guitars, one with Filtertrons and one with Hilotrons.
Like your Falcon!
BRIDGE PICKUP - amazing.
😂 I have the exact same glasses on now.. so I can see that beautiful White Falcon
Great score on the card!
Nothing sounds like a good Grestch. ❤
your new white falcon sounds amazing.
Nice falcon call it soulrelated. Thank you uncle larry.
An interviewer once asked Hal Blaine what the most difficult aspect of being a session musician was and without hesitation, he answered: "Getting a decent parking spot"
Those White Falcons are so rad. Expensive when they were new so not many were made. They command big $ these days, and that is a very nice one. I was in Gruhn's and he had the Fogelberg White Penguin. An even more rare Gretch.
"No vibrato, shake it off as it dies" might be sole of the most succinct advice I've heard.
Have a great day Unc!
“No vibrato, then shake it off as it dies” Awesome tip! Thanks
A nice morning cup of...Uncle Larry ❤
With a Hot Slab of XVI/XLV😂
As always Uncle Larry, your timing is perfect, and not just musically, but all the perfect insights on life...the essentials for life...friends, kids, 2 cars, parking and good coffee and real half-and-half (never understood even the 1% H&H, whats the point?). Woke up feeling the blues, and you helped chase them away. Thanks as ever.
My man
@@501chorusecho thanks Tom, means so much. its a beautiful mystery of how your honest videos can really touch another's life so positively. Just like your mechanic, you are one of those kinds of people we could use more of.
"White Privilege Falcon" made me lol my coffee. Well done!
Oh hey, you've got my readers! I've been looking for them. They came in a pack of two, so I'm using the black ones until I find my corporate plastic tortoiseshell.
What else do you need? A bunch of great t-shirts!
At 17:41 I thought we were going to get some Pork Pie Hat...oh well, another time perhaps.
This has gotta be in the top five of Uncle Larry videos. 🤘🏻🤘🏻😀🤘🏻🤘🏻
Two cars and two phones…. It’s kind of long, but I think it works as a song title.
That D7 #5 #9 with Ab in bass reminds me of the first chord to Steely Dan's 'Don't Take Me Alive'. Love that tune.
I was definitely think that as well!!
Tom...you do realize don't you, that there will now be a rush to buy/shortage of Gretsch White Falcons. Just as there is every time you feature a new guitar purchase. Love it!
well...considering the fact that, according to George, this is the only '61 white falcon that has come into their shop in the last 10 years, i don't think there is enough hypothetical supply to keep up with that hypothetical demand
