    Great series,always informative, BEAUTIFULLY filmed, professional in every way,just like being on the bank with you.Just gotta love it! Don't stop now! I watch em over and over, better than tv anyday. No trout here, just BIG dark bluegill and shellcracker on 2 or 3 wt, love it!

      Thanks Len! And yes, I think we need to figure out a better method for keeping our feet warm. Other than that, it was fantastic!

    Wondering if you were able to share how you set up your rods for Erie. I live in Cambria County and a few of us have our first trip planned to fish the tribs coming soon so any help we can get is greatly appreciated. Tight lines!

    • @bobbo8389
      @bobbo8389 5 років тому

      On a side note I know how/have some sucker spawn, basic eggs, and crystal meth tied up is there any other fly that is a must have for you when you go up. I'll be the only one in the group running a fly rod the rest will be using spinning gear.

    • @BackyardBassin
      @BackyardBassin  5 років тому +1

      I'd be happy to share our setup but any nymph rig will work for them. We will run about a 9 foot leader with a dropper about a foot and a half from the bottom for a dropper fly. We'll place our splitshot between the two flies and our float about one and a half times the depth of the water. We also just recently started tight line nymphing for them and use the leader formula for a mono rig which you can find on troutbitten.com. The only downside to this is that it is much easier to throw on a specialized nymphing rod and might be tough to use with a 6 or 7 st steelhead rod. Still doable, but tough. As for the flies we use everything yoh mentioned. If it's some sort of egg pattern, it will work! Best of luck to you guys! Enjoy your trip and hope this helps!

      Yes! Watched your video the other night while I did some work in the evening! Had a whole UA-cam playlist going haha. You guys did pretty well. Seems like there was a whole lot of fish there! We have yet to find a foolproof method for keeping our feet warm though... footwarmers help a bit but we still get cold. Couldn't imagine having a hole in my waders though! Thanks for watching Craig!

    • @BackyardBassin
      @BackyardBassin  5 років тому

      Any egg pattern will work. My favorites are sucker spawn or psycho spawn if they seem to want something more flashy. Hope this helps! Thanks for watching!

    How did you manage to find so much unfished water?? Private area?? Most of the fisherpeople on Erie tribs would crawl over your back to catch a steelhead.

    • @BackyardBassin
      @BackyardBassin  4 роки тому

      Nope it was public water. I think we got lucky because we hit it midweek

      @@BackyardBassin Great to see the most pressured water in the world get a video promoting it. Don't complain when you can barely fish mid-week in winter due to pressure. The walleye in Lake Erie will also do a number to this fishery...soon.

    Nice fish, looks like a great trip. What leader/tipper did you use? Still new to the steelhead game and lost three fish due to break offs this fall.

    • @BackyardBassin
      @BackyardBassin  5 років тому +2

      Hi Gary. We usually use 4lb Berkley vanish as our tippit material. I think that's about 4x or so. This is the first year that we tight line nymphs for them so our leader was 5' 15# maxima, to 2' 10lb maxima, to 3' 1x sighter material to a tippet ring. From there we go 5 to 7 feet of Berkley vanish. Hope this helps! Tight lines!

  • @jasonnester9514
    @jasonnester9514 5 років тому

    That’s why I run 10lb line get em in faster it’s healthier for the fish to

    • @BackyardBassin
      @BackyardBassin  5 років тому

      We usually run about 4x. About 5 or 6 lb line. Usually if we don't bring them in within a few minutes then we just keep em. Love some smoked steelhead! :)

    What size flies you guys fishing ?

    • @BackyardBassin
      @BackyardBassin  5 років тому

      The egg patterns that we used were tied on size 12 and 14 scud hooks. The 14 produced a little better. The stoneflies on size 16 and 18 curved shank stonefly hooks.

    what weight of rod?

    • @BackyardBassin
      @BackyardBassin  5 років тому

      We were both using 4wt rods since we were tight line nymphing. Both rods were under warranty though so we weren't worried about hauling them in haha. Thanks for watching!

    What’s the physco spawn

    • @BackyardBassin
      @BackyardBassin  5 років тому

      It is a sucker spawn with some ice dub dubbed onto the strand of yarn that is tied into the center. We'll show some in our next steelhead video. Thabks for watching!
