We had the DJ play this at my grandmother's 80th birthday party. It was so much fun watching her and her friends on the dance floor. They were loving it!

The best party band there is. I always love the B-52‘s. Kate Pearson and Cindy Wilson are likely two of the best harmonizers in the business. Their voices together are amazing. This video is so cool. And that’s RuPaul dancing in the white top and fro! All are from Georgia. When people put money in a jukebox, the machine will play the songs in the order they are paid for. So yes, a queue.
A jukebox was a machine where you walked up, looked at the selection of songs, inserted a quarter, and pressed the alpha - numeric button for the song you want, like A19 for the Temptations' "Heard it Through the Grapevine." Depending if other people made selections before you, too you'd wait for your song to play. Bring your jukebox money means having a bunch of change on hand because usually you couldn't get change from the bartender. Such fun times.
And the 45’s (vinyl) were lined up. You could watch the machine go and grab the new 45 and put it on the player , then the needle would come down and the music would play.
"The girls" also known as Kate and Cindy, will ALWAYS be standouts with this band. Their harmonies and vocal abilities are beyond impressive. I've seen them live countless times, and let me tell ya, when those women opened their mouths, you could feel it vibrate in your soul. You definitely need more B52s in your life.

I was lucky to be a pro musician from the early 1980s through 1994. You are definitely picking up on an important element. Back then, you could do a show and play new music and everybody would dance and groove just as hard as to their favorite songs. People danced so freely and it was definitely a groovy time. Cities and colleges towns had excellent local venues for shows. And college radio was a MAJOR force. Huge corporations like iHeart Radio have contributed a lot to the demise of really good original music and bands with excellent musicians and singers.

All of the songs I like from The B-52's have strong memories attached to them even though I'm only 25. I think it makes the songs better.

You put your money in the Jukebox, made your choices and it just played the songs in the order they were inputted. So there was no waiting to get to the jukebox...it was first come first served and you just hoped that whoever owned the joint you were at had all good music so it didn't matter. You did have to have quarters, lots of them if you wanted to play the jukebox. "Jukebox money" meant COINS. There were no debit cards or Apple Pay back then. Most of them didn't take dollar bills, either. Coins only for decades. This song is so special to me because it came out the year I moved to Miami Beach and that was a FUN time.
Even when this came out originally it was a WTF moment. The B52s were an established band but at least here in the UK had kind of been a fleeting entity in the charts. At the time there was a kind of 60s revival going in with mainstream music. You had De La Soul bringing hippy vibes into Rap music, maybe a Tribe Called Quest too. But as I always do - Im gonna recommend "Roam" another great feel good song by The B52s with bags of energy. One of the best rock back stories in music history. Five friends (including a pair of siblings) formed a band on a lark and played at parties around their college town of Athens, GA. Then a couple radio stations picked up on some of their songs - most notably ‘Rpck lob’. Forty five years later and they’re still playing gigs and should be in the rpck hall. They’re legendary.

They still have digital jukeboxes in bars these days. The cash ones worked the same way. Except instead of paying through an app you had to walk up to the machine & feed dollar bills into it (like a vending machine). Then you pick your songs & you're in a queue behind anybody that already paid for & picked songs before you.
Picture this. 1975 in Macon, GA. My brother, his best friend Craig Bennett and I were jumping on the trampoline in Craig’s backyard. Craig was excited his older brother was coming home for the weekend from Athens, GA and bringing his friends. At some point, this car pulls in the driveway - we are still on the trampoline - and the craziest group of people I have ever seen get out. It was the B-52s. Craig’s older brother eventually married Cindy Wilson ( big pink hat). My ten year old mine was blown! Four years later I saw them on Saturday Night Live performing “Rock Lobster.”

Olivia Newton John had a lot of hit songs, one of them was "Please Mr. Please". The lyric goes "Please Mr. please, don't play B-17, it was our song, it was his song, but it's over..." I think the song was about a girl who worked in a restaurant that had a jukebox, anyway, she didn't want to be reminded of her ex. Talking about dancing, I miss "Soul Train" with Don Cornelius where all the best dancers were developing the best moves. The were popping and locking in the 70's with the crazy clothes, what a time... Love you man, your enthusiasm is contagious..

Jukeboxes are the BEST! Very beautifully crafted, with lights, some that flashed and fancy woodwork, fancy metallic designs, and some had themes to their designs. Some people collect or restore old ones and those can be worth a lot of money. New ones are made by only a few companies around the world, and cost thousands of dollars. Once in a while, a bar or restaurant might have one, but usually only for show, not one that works. So the way most worked was, most jukeboxes were about 5 + feet tall and 2 to 3 feet wide, and you see the selection of music listed in the case, and each selection has a number/letter combo, so you insert your money, press the buttons for the song you want and it plays. In the older ones, you can see the mechanism actually pick out the record (they were 45’s.) But if people before you picked songs, those play first, so it is like a queue, first-come, first served. Some restaurants would have a mini-jukebox at each booth or table, with fewer selections but was still fun. Sometimes people would pay for the same song to repeat a bunch of times. Comedian John Mulaney tells a story about when he was a teenager, he and a friend paid to repeat a (obnoxious) song 40 times in a row. 👍👍👍
I'm in Stockholm, Sweden and one of my favorite coffeshops is a complete retro place with tiny jukeboxes on the wall, meant for each booth. Idk if they still work, but they did in the 90s.originaks from the 1950s man. Jukeboxes are fun!

In Portland, we have regular classes called ecstatic dance where anyone any everyone could dance, with themselves or others. There’s incredibly eclectic, talented djs to lead the way. Great reaction Shon!
I am right at your first stop in you're talking about the backing vocals being so involved and really a huge part of it, and always keep in mind it's the two of them together that are absolutely phenomenal. They are both gifted singers but it's the two of them together. But I would say also that what they're doing even more in the direction of what you're talking about, is that they feel so involved because in the course they keep going, it starts off as a call and answer kind of thing but then they always just keep sustaining these tones and then doing short notes and just whatever it is to provide a backdrop to his really quirky lead vocals. And frequency wise they've got his voice so low, and that they're belting it out in this upper register and then you have all the music in between, so it's a really nice balance. Part of that again goes back to Brian eno, the producer.
I bartended, during this era! I was head bartender and on Saturday nights our little pub turned into like a private club! I had 4 girls that waited tables, 3 would come behind the bar with me, one girl watched the floor, when this song came on! We preformed this song(lipsink) behind the bar! It was tradition once a night. We had so much fun back then. It was just a short break in serving, but it was always a highlight for the patrons! I was a singer so was always on as I worked! Get ready, this gone be long. My youngest daughter turned 16 in 1995. I borrowed an old Checker airport limo from a friend that collects cars. It had 8 doors. 4 on each side. I told her I had a surprise for her birthday. Invite 14 friends and we’ll all go the drive-in movie. The old Checker airport limo was a project car, primer gray, but it ran. No stereo so I told her to bring her boombox and play what you want. She put in on this song on a loop and we rolled with it blasting over and over and over all around, cruising the small Oklahoma town we were in. Laughing, singing carrying on having a blast. One of the best rock back stories in music history. Five friends (including a pair of siblings) formed a band on a lark and played at parties around their college town of Athens, GA. Then a couple radio stations picked up on some of their songs - most notably ‘Rpck lob’. Forty five years later and they’re still playing gigs and should be in the rpck hall. They’re legendary.

They still have digital jukeboxes in bars these days. The cash ones worked the same way. Except instead of paying through an app you had to walk up to the machine & feed dollar bills into it (like a vending machine). Then you pick your songs & you're in a queue behind anybody that already paid for & picked songs before you.
Picture this. 1975 in Macon, GA. My brother, his best friend Craig Bennett and I were jumping on the trampoline in Craig’s backyard. Craig was excited his older brother was coming home for the weekend from Athens, GA and bringing his friends. At some point, this car pulls in the driveway - we are still on the trampoline - and the craziest group of people I have ever seen get out. It was the B-52s. Craig’s older brother eventually married Cindy Wilson ( big pink hat). My ten year old mine was blown! Four years later I saw them on Saturday Night Live performing “Rock Lobster.”
Jukebox, usually work you get to picks( songs 3 for a dollar ( back in the day), and it just played the songs picked, so if 2 people were a head then to listened to their songs first.lol love playing Light my Fire by the Doors because it was a long song to get moneys worth 😂😂

They exploded on the scene with their dayglo colors ‘60s girl-group homage fun houseparty band antics, dropped like a flashing UFO into the sullen black leather lounge lizard too-cool-to-smile sensibility of the time🤣

YAZZZZZZZ, I remember dancing to this classic back in the day! ! When you didn't have to worry about getting beat up or shot, everyone just had a good time! ! !
Jukeboxes are the BEST! Very beautifully crafted, with lights, some that flashed and fancy woodwork, fancy metallic designs, and some had themes to their designs. Some people collect or restore old ones and those can be worth a lot of money. New ones are made by only a few companies around the world, and cost thousands of dollars. Once in a while, a bar or restaurant might have one, but usually only for show, not one that works.
So the way most worked was, most jukeboxes were about 5 + feet tall and 2 to 3 feet wide, and you see the selection of music listed in the case, and each selection has a number/letter combo, so you insert your money, press the buttons for the song you want and it plays. In the older ones, you can see the mechanism actually pick out the record (they were 45’s.) But if people before you picked songs, those play first, so it is like a queue, first-come, first served. Some restaurants would have a mini-jukebox at each booth or table, with fewer selections but was still fun. Sometimes people would pay for the same song to repeat a bunch of times. Comedian John Mulaney tells a story about when he was a teenager, he and a friend paid to repeat a (obnoxious) song 40 times in a row. 👍👍👍
I'm in Stockholm, Sweden and one of my favorite coffeshops is a complete retro place with tiny jukeboxes on the wall, meant for each booth. Idk if they still work, but they did in the 90s.originaks from the 1950s man. Jukeboxes are fun!

I'm from the south and have never heard it but that is not what it meant in this song. It implied that the roof of The Love Shack had a rusted roof. The lady that sings that says that part came to her all of a sudden as she was thinking of what the building might look like.

I am right at your first stop in you're talking about the backing vocals being so involved and really a huge part of it, and always keep in mind it's the two of them together that are absolutely phenomenal. They are both gifted singers but it's the two of them together. But I would say also that what they're doing even more in the direction of what you're talking about, is that they feel so involved because in the course they keep going, it starts off as a call and answer kind of thing but then they always just keep sustaining these tones and then doing short notes and just whatever it is to provide a backdrop to his really quirky lead vocals. And frequency wise they've got his voice so low, and that they're belting it out in this upper register and then you have all the music in between, so it's a really nice balance. Part of that again goes back to Brian eno, the producer.

I bartended, during this era! I was head bartender and on Saturday nights our little pub turned into like a private club! I had 4 girls that waited tables, 3 would come behind the bar with me, one girl watched the floor, when this song came on! We preformed this song(lipsink) behind the bar! It was tradition once a night.
We had so much fun back then. It was just a short break in serving, but it was always a highlight for the patrons!

i'm so glad you younger cats are finally looking at stuff from the older days. i was raised (90s) on stuff all the way back to the thirties, so now i have a very wide spectrum of interests and i can get real enjoyment out of just about every era of movies and music.

Get ready, this gone be long. My youngest daughter turned 16 in 1995. I borrowed an old Checker airport limo from a friend that collects cars. It had 8 doors. 4 on each side. I told her I had a surprise for her birthday. Invite 14 friends and we’ll all go the drive-in movie. The old Checker airport limo was a project car, primer gray, but it ran. No stereo so I told her to bring her boombox and play what you want. She put in on this song on a loop and we rolled with it blasting over and over and over all around, cruising the small Oklahoma town we were in. Laughing, singing carrying on having a blast. Cruising the Sonic Drive-In. Had a whole damn parade following us around town!! Good times man!! ✌🏻😊 Fun toon! Thanks for your great vibes every damn time!
