- Here's everything you never knew about octopuses.
This video answers all of the following questions:
- How do octopus move?
- How do octopus breathe?
- How to tell if an octopus is a male or female?
- How do octopus poop?
- Do octopus have tentacles?
Specimen use made possible by the University of Michigan Museum of Zoology - Наука та технологія
I use the word "octopus" instead of "octopuses" about a dozen times in this video. My bad - I trouble with pluralities. Reply to this comment with any other corrections! Thanks for watching my friends :)
Great video!! I have a question, does the ethanol and/or specimen have a smell? Thanks!
"Octopi" sayers rise up
If you wanna change things up, you can get away with using "octopodes" as well
I thought its "octopi"
I thought the preferred word was octupi 🤔
That first octopus wasn't small! He was perfectly adequate! Some would say huge even!
It's not the size of the boat, its the motion on the ocean. With a funnel.
Sounds like a man with an insecure octopus
Yeah it is huge, the camera man and the camera are just universal, *GODZILLA HIMSELF* is scared of that octopus
He has a great personality!
It is average size
This guy is gonna say "Here is my favorite jar, of babies." One day
Just wait until he whips out the jars of preserved animal penises(yes they indeed exist)
So informational and complete. I love these small little intelligent octis
Do you have a blue ringed octopus?
Would like to know as well
Or if he has is it stil poisonus?
I shared this channel with my biology professor and now she loves watching your videos😂
And i showed clown fish video of your to my mom and she is shocked and now she also enjoys watching
She is shocked to know that sequential hermaphrodites even exist
I am a biology student and i love these videos
Keep up the good work
Octopuses are my all time favorite animal and I'm always happy learning more details about them.
I love octopi! I'm mostly a snail gal but cephalopods have a lot in common with gastropods so it's cool learning about octopi physiology and realizing how similar they are (outside of the whole limbs issue).
Gastro, iso, and cephalo pods are all so cool
In Hawai’i they are hunted in our waters. We’re taught to bite between the eyes to kill it quickly as we can. Tako Poke (chopped octopus) is really good as a pupu (appetizer). Try it if you guys are ever in Hawai’i🤙🏼
Not sure how to feel bout that
@@Mulgah YOU EAT TURTLES? *THATS A REPTILIC DISGRACE, SHAME ON YOU* (jk)
You bite them between in the eyes alive-
*yep im not going to Hawai’i now*
lol I was raised on the mainland but when I visited my island cousins and watched them grab animals out of the ocean and eat them raw, I... 😱
*do not read if your eating*
some people refer poop as pupu LMAO
Wouldn't the definitions of "arms" and "tentacles" make more sense if they were flipped? Like, we have arms, and they end in a grippy bit. We don't have grippy bits along our arms
I will now be referring to my hands as grippy bits
Grippy bits only at the ends mean we have tentacles!
Can we get another long animal skull identification video like the canine skull one it was honestly really entertaining XD
I can not appreciate enough how I love these sort of videos.
Just found your videos. Loved your “Weird but True” show and I’m glad to have found more of your educational works. 😊
Man I would love to see you unpacking some deep sea critters next
“We’re gonna take some tweezers”
*grabs chopsticks of death*
Octopusses are my fav animals. They are so cool. And now I know even more of them. Thx
Great sound effects!!🐙
Lovely video, it's always nice to be able to directly see what someone is talking about with obscure anatomy. You mentioned the ethanol gets clouded with bits of the specimens over time, hence it turning yellow; do you/curators/etc. ever pour it out and put new ethanol in, or is there some reason why not?
was waiting for him to tell us the importance of the one "scoop" at the end of the male arm, can anyone educate me?
I think what I've learned is that the scoop scoops the other male octis sperm out of the female so he will have a better chance of having offspring from her instead of the others.
Basically it's their penis
well you see,
thank you for sharing with us such cool facts!! sending love from singapore
"And when I say everything, I'm exaggerating" 😂
A lot of Koreans are salivating, watching this video. 🍜
Lmao
The octopus is my favourite animal, I even have a tattoo 🖤
Keep up the cool work dude if you have any more fish species make about it
What a wonderful video! So informative and entertaining!
While watching the video the whole time I was thinking about how "Squidward Tentacles" is actually canonically an octopus
Thank you for these!!!
I really wanna see how snails and hermit crabs make their shells (like a Timelapse or something)
This is the weirdest calamari mukbang I've ever seen
that aside, They all look so cute
this is my new favorite channel
I want to see you on blue’s clues!! you’re perfect for the role 😢.
I want a octopus one day they are so cool and intelligent. On a side note.. you have really nice teeth 😊
I expected live Octopus, but then I saw your channel name 💀
As a kid, I used to love going to the Museum of Curiosity in Arundel U.K.
very interesting information about octopuses
Well this video was quite.....jarring.
How often do you need to change out the ethanol in the jars?
just amazing, thanks for this. cuttlefish as next video. =)
This looks so cool 😎 I’m excited for it too and I’m getting an octopus 🐙 for my friend
Amazing channel, new sub 👍
🐙 Octopuses are my favorite animals ! 🐙
This video made me think about one of my favourite movie Character; Davy Jones,...👍🐙
I got 14 numbers just one off! Also I love watching ur vids they r so entertaining !
One of my favorites animals tbh.
Same
Release 2min ago?
Also Have Any penguin specimens?
Great video!
So is the arm with the scoup from the male also considered an arm or is that a tentacle?
It’s an arm. The “scoop” is the octopus equivalent of a penis
It's the inverse of a tentacle---It has suckers everywhere except the tip, wheras tentacles have suckers only at the tip
@@thiagogoncalves7389 yeah but is that actually called that?
@@tigokooreman9912 from what I've heard that's they're reproductive organ
@@BrixRebel ah alright thanks
I just remembered a type of jellyfish that can never die (when it will, it changes back into a baby)
This is very interesting i m so in to it i didnt realize that the vid ended
"How do they poop?" Got me😂😂😂
Wow that’s amazing and you are very lucky
The reason why occupied put their legs in when they zoom out from shooting water out their tunnel is because so they can be more aerodynamic or should I say water dynamic so they can move faster and further
Can U Make A Video About Every Cephalopods?
Make playlists! Your shows could be the Bob Ross of biological science.
Your shows are like Blue's Clues, Bob Ross, and How It's Made had an Internet baby.
Do you have any froggy stuff?
I can imagine it being rubbery when chewing on it
That tiny octopus looks like what I had that time at a shabushabu place
octopus unboxing
i fucking got it right i swear
I guessed 13. I was so close.
"Most importantly, how do they poop?"
So you are telling me that i have zero arms?
Because last time i checked, i didnt have suction cups going all the way down to my armpits
I thought they were submerged in Formaldehyde, the ones in our school certainly are.
Thank you for inspiring me to be a biologist
"Look at this, it's so tiny!"- that's what my sister said.
🤨
yo i literally guessed 15 or 16 octopuses, i got it righttt
I didn’t know that octopus was so tiny
i want more birds (specialy south america ones)
Could you see the mantle get bigger when it sucks in water?
Was gonna ask for a comparison between an octopus and a squid.
Got it at 8:05 😆
Guys, am I the onlyone who feels like they wanna chew these octopuses soooo badly?
Octopus? I like it
Wow so beautiful🐙
Is there a reason male octopuss have this one special arm? Does it has a function?
Can we get fish anatomy, specifically Ray finned fish ??
Why does the phrase "where is the octopus butthole" make me think of a Beatles tune?
Do the males use the scoop for anything?
Zoology lesson ps are rlly fun to learn 😊
Does this mean that Off the Hook’s band name in the Japanese version of Splatoon 2 is just… “Arms”?
Do one on arthropods, please!
is this their real color? or the liquid changed it?
The forbidden shot
I have one question, let's say I have ten male octopuses, all of them will have the reproductive arm in the same place or it depends of each octopus?
Yes-- the 3rd arm on the left side, to be exact
Omg 😱 I am so excited to get 🐙
Do you have crayfish?
I never new that they had arms
Love octupuses. Its just a shame they arent social animals. I bet they could achieve amazing things in groups.
so you mean squidward has 6 tentacles!?
Do you guys have any bigger squid specimens?😊
what is your job i love it so much
I thought he meant live ones. I thought i was gonna see a cool aquarium with cool looking octopuses.
THEY ARE ALL DEAD
I see something thatlooks like a thrid eye on the mantle 4:31
You are so good at that you can make a really good point about it being the best way for me to do that and I think that is what I need you for the best part and I love octopus 🐙 ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I guessed 15 ^^
why do i unironically wanna eat the specimens, its like soysauce-glazed grilled octopus with a sprinkle of seasonings on it 💀
How did the octopus live
for 300 years
It didn't it's carcass was kept for 300 years
So they have a built in jet pack
Can you show us the heart ❤️ of the octopus 🐙 please
I somehow guessed exactly 15 octopi
Octopus but a little bit small
