Best game I have played. Couldnt stop playing it because the story gets so intense and exciting. Bought beyond two souls on the very first day it hit the stores but was sooo dissapointed. Nothing like the Heavy rain experience. Just a longer cliche version of Cages Fahrenheit game. Ughh..
Actually this game also had supernatural shit in the script but it was cut out late in development. the original plot had ethan and the killer psychic'ly linked on the day jason died. this is why Ethan has his blackouts which go unexplained
One of the best games of this generation without question. It challenges our morals and lets us see into the pain of these people and the path they will walk on. It's extremely deep and brutal - and is not to be missed.
Tekey six Simple, as a game has gameplay and challenge. If you consider heavy rain's with its press 1 to do everything for me a game. Then you must be the kind of person who gets entertainment by constantly pressing buttons in elevators just for the small tedious ride.
Nathan Guy false. A video game is virtuell product that you can interact with it. So gta is a game, mario kart is a game, 5 nights at freddy is a game and even heavy rain is a game. There different but they have all the same thing...the are games. Your opinion is not my problem I'm only here to say the truth and to teach you what a game is. You don't must thank me ;) ( and sorry for my bad english )
Even though I am more of a 360 gamer. My brother got a ps3 and Heavy Rain @ the start of the year and I was hooked on Heavy Rain instantly. My view is that Heavy Rain is one of the most underrated games of all time.
the water segments in Pokemon were just not fun to play. The rain in Heavy Rain doesn't change the game at all (it's not like you're slipping on wet puddles or anything).
+Bear Udyr just because it has only 1 con here doesn't mean it's a perfect game otherwise. Are you seriously angry that this game got ONLY 9/10 which is a pretty damn good score. If only a good story can make a game 10/10 you must be a terrible reviewer(ofc the story is a huge part of this game though).
There is so many plot holes in this movie. They completely ignored Ethan's black outs just so we can think he could be the killer, without explaining the hows and whys he wakes up with origami in his hand
Damn, this game is still so unique and one of the best games of the last years. Very emotional and intense. I can only recommend it to everyone who even remotely likes these kind of games. Some games you can barely remember after 2-3 years, but not this one!
I don't know why people complain about the slow beginning. I liked it because it gives you a solid introduction to Ethan's life as an everyday man but when the action picks up, you really appreciate it better because of how a typical person is cast into an extrodinary situation unlike most game characters who are constantly under attack by somebody.
I actually liked the slow beginning. Helped me understand what the character's do in their everyday life, let me connect to them. I also found it quite relaxing.
I agree. I got this game when it first came out and my only regret is that I can't forget it completely just so I can play it over again. I love it! I hope to see a game with Norman Jayden, he's my favorite.
I only played through the first couple of hours of this and found it unintentionally hilarious. It was mostly bogged down by clunky line delivery and an over-reliance on the score.
The entirety of Mass Effect 3 was the ending. All of your choices from ME2 and ME1 came into play, and ME3 resolved all of the major conflicts. *SPOILERS* 1. Genophage: Based on Me1 and 2 choices the outcome of the genophage cure can be be widely different. 2. Quarian/Geth war: Again based on your choices can vary is large ways. The very end of ME3 was only the ending of the Reaper conflict, and that was resolved with 3 different endings.
9.0 are you fucking kidding me. This game deserves 5.0, and that's being extremely generous. The graphics and lip synch are terrible (I've seen better animations on PS2). Then there is the 'voice acting', which is just horrendous. No commitment nor effort was put into making those fucking voices sound at least plausible. I didn't believe in a single word they were saying. And finally there is the plot, which is not that bad, but its not groundbreaking either. It's predictable and it has more holes then the swiss cheese. Bottom line this is an average if not below average game.
Just finished this Game and I have to say. this Game is really boring and only end is good.should be 7.5/10.this game is so overrated.i enjoyed beyond two souls more because it had great story and acting.
It's true, the voice acting of heavy rain isn't good some times, but if they ever remaster it with better graphics(next-gen), animation and voice acting I think it would take the cake
***** Ok My opinion has changed in 8 months and now I would give this game 6.4.It is still a interesting game and your choices matter, but the acting and plot holes just ruined this game for me. (sry for bad English)
Agreed. It's TellTale's outdated engine that does it. No game has ever gotten me more attached to a character, though. Clementine was just such a cute character, and that ending was just depressing. I can't wait to see what they bring to the table in the next season.
This "game" is garbitch! I just returned this load of shit back to Game Stop. This game might as will be a point and click because You don't feel like you have much control in this game. It's slow as hell and the characters are boring. I felt like an idiot when ever I had to shake the controller left and right and up and down. Oh and I did not appreciate seeing the guy take a leak and then seeing his naked ass in the beginning of the game. WTF!
+SheckleRFan715 GTA V has objectively better writing, ironically more believable plot/characters, infinitely better voice acting/mocap, unquestionably better game play and more content, nuance, attention to detail, scope, scale and flair than evry single David Cage game combined. Fantastic advice!
If not for slow begining, people wouldn't care much for character deaths, to me, it's more important to have connection with the characters than a lot of action going on every second.
I first played this game back in 2010 when it was released. And now I decided to play it again. And the thing is that suprisingly the game gets better with time. I actually appreciate it even more now. Yes the story is not very clever and good, suitable for a B-side movie, but it's the graphics, art design and the whole atmosphere of the game which steals the show. It's hands down the most mature and unique video game yet released. I want more.
Heard of this game a long time ago but haven't played it until now, and I gotta say this is one of the best games I played. Very unique and really emotional.
I remember getting this game as a birthday present about 2 years ago. Next to GoW3 and Uncharted 2, it was one of the best experiences I had ever had on the Playstation 3
David Cage said their wouldn't be a sequel, but don't get sad, Quantic Dream already said they are announcing their next game at e3, and if you haven't seen "Kara", the next game is going to be their best one yet.
It is slow at the beginning because it needs to establish a sense of equilibrium. Not a bad thing in my opinion. It gives a bigger impact on the story later because it showed what Ethan had and then lost.
It probably does have replay value. I don't want to spoil too much, but my first playthrough had characters dying at the end, even though I swear I did everything right. There's a trophy for keeping all players alive, so this means there are multiple endings.
The reason why it's bad is because if a game has an uninteresting opening, then the player may assume that the whole game will be as uninteresting as opening was, or in other words, they will not want to finish the game.
@Speekies The main problem with the game would be that the plot contains numerous gaping holes, and for a game that focuses almost entirely on its storyline, that's a fairly major issue. I can elaborate further in another reply if you want, because I'm running out of characters here.
(SPOILERS) My only real issue with the games story is one major plot hole. Why Ethan sees drowning kids and wakes up from the Blackouts with an origami piece in his hand. Now I know from the "deleted" scenes of the game, it's told that the game originally had paranormal elements, that Ethan entered the mind of the Origami killer, but since this wasn't in the final game, it made no sense as to why he wakes up with an origami piece, and is never explained.
The Origami Killer didn't screw up his life... *SPOILER ALERT* The car accident that took the life of his son and caused trauma to his Brain did. His wife left him after that accident NOT after his second son was Kidnapped.
This game is so fucking divided between people who love it and people who hate it...it's crazy. I personally really liked this game, but I recognize the story has some pretty noticable flaws. But the way you mold the story and how screwing up a promp changes tides of epic scenes, choosing what characters live and die is what truly makes this game a great experience.
I just finished it today. It's definitely unlike every game I've ever played and although it has some flaws, it certainly has some moments that were more intense than anything I've ever played. I'd recommend it.
in my opinion, the story was amazing. loved the surprising ending. I loved how every choice you made had an impact on the story. only thing lacking was better fights. they were too easy since you only have to press the button written on the screen.
Thanks for the recommendation man! I'm probably going to get it. The only thing is is that stupid youtube comments have already spoiled who the killer is for me :/
I'm going to have to say no to that simply because one of the things that makes the story so interesting is that it changes depending on how you play. But beyond that, hell yes.
I **JUST FINISHED THE GAME** for the first time and I got almost the BEST ending. Shawn, Ethan, and Madison = alive. Origami killer = dead. Only bad news is - Norman was dragged away by the black man and never came back (he died) :(. I give this game 9.5/10.0. My only issue with the game is that it was never explained how Shaun actually got kidnapped and also whatever the hell was up with Ethan's "blackouts". - This was an incredible game definitely worthy of one of the greatest games of all
I really don't know my guess is that he picks them up from the graveyard (they are the same figures) but your right, we shouldn't have to guess there, its seems like something that should be explained...
I traded it in once, but regretted it. I recently picked it up on a deal of the week sale and am really glad to have it once more. It's going nowhere this time.
Not just that, but the feelings you begin to develop for the characters as time goes by. It really hits home, unlike any other game. Its only flaws were the absolutely horrific animations. Everything else was fantastic. In my opinion, of course.
If you want a incredible experience through story telling and cut scenes, there is not a single better modern game out there on the new gen then Heavy Rain. Game play is just a filler to proceed forward, but the experience the simple game play creates, is just fucking amazing.
people love bashing ign because of giving games like COD above average scores (which i don't agree with either) but they seem to overlook the actual review. this review was really well thought out and made the x-play review look like it was solely made for entertainment
Honestly i feel like it started out slow so the player can get emotionally attached to the characters of the game. Strange how a video game can do that, but thats what makes this game such a masterpiece.
I'm playing through for the first time, I am pretty far in and some of the moments in this thing are... holy hell. I can't believe the intensity that can be delivered by this game. Heavy rain kicks ASS, can't believe I've waited this long!
I'm surprised they weren't upset at how much water was in the game

Heavy Rain is one of the best games ive EVER played. The story makes it. Better than Beyond Two Souls in my opinion.
Play Fahrenheit then (or Indigo Prophecy, as it's known in US). It is the blueprint for Heavy Rain.
Best game I have played. Couldnt stop playing it because the story gets so intense and exciting. Bought beyond two souls on the very first day it hit the stores but was sooo dissapointed. Nothing like the Heavy rain experience. Just a longer cliche version of Cages Fahrenheit game. Ughh..

I just finished the game yesterday - and holy shit it had me at the edge of my seat til the end.

i actually picked up the directors cut from wal-mart yesterday for $15, gonna start this masterpiece in an hour or two
It does start slow, but, that helps to get attatched to the characters, as SukkaNoodo pointed out.
(SPOILERS)
My only real issue with the games story is one major plot hole.
A serial killer has kidnapped a little kid and you're trying to find out who it is, playing as four different characters throughout the game.
The Origami Killer didn't screw up his life... *SPOILER ALERT* The car accident that took the life of his son and caused trauma to his Brain did. His wife left him after that accident NOT after his second son was Kidnapped.
