Funny thing is that Drake could still auction it even as a joke and no doubt he could find a market for people going after "the lowest grades CGC comic."

The mathematics UA-cam channel Numberphile had a similar idea about "the first boring number", as in one that could not be described in less than twenty words. They came to the same conclusion as you that by labeling it as "the first boring number", they accidentally made it interesting.

so just name the next one and that's the most boring
effectively, linguistically, it's the second most boring number, which makes it the most boring number, but that doesn't then make it interesting because a number before it already did that, it's not special

Your destruction of the book really didn't faze me at all because honestly there are so many copies of these books in the world that no one wants, it's really no loss for one copy to be destroyed. I think a lot of people are really unaware of the scale at which worthless mass produced books are thrown away and recycled by book stores, libraries and publishers. I think there's a pretty strong chance that this book would have just been recycled eventually if you hadn't subjected it to this torture, and now instead of being turned into pulp, you turned it into a one-of-a-kind item with a fascinating story behind it! I sincerely think that's something worth celebrating.

Haven't finished it, but what a clever idea for a video. It's somewhat paradoxical. What is the most "random" number between 1 and 20? The most common answer is 17, but wouldn't that make it the *least* random number? If word ever got out that there is a "most worthless" comic, its value would immediately shoot up as a necessary collectable.

My immediate thought when seeing the title was 'its gonna be something from the 90s'. I was right on that front but thought it be something either made or inspired by Liefeld like an issue of Deathmate. Which was crossover between Valiant and Image (the parts own by Silvesti, Lee, and of course Liefeld) that burst the bubble. But then realized that give it a form of value since it technically would be a key issue. Not for the world comics, but the real world

Because it's a copy of Superman #1 that sold for that high, not Action Comics. That Supes issue has an INSANELY high grade for a classic book, outdoing the quality of every Action #1 out there.

The biggest problem with least valuable is you can only go so far. It can't be worth less than $0.01 so it gets tied with possibly hundreds of others out there. Unless you can find someone who will offer you say... a can of soup for $1.00 but only $0.50 with this book can you go into negative value... intriguing prospect.

but! monetary worth may be tied, yes, but that does not mean it would be equal in people's eyes.
say i was selling two cakes, both for $0.01. one of them was the absolute worst cake you have ever seen, disgusting flavour, rubbish texture. but the other one was the same, except i took a shit on it too. both might sell for the lowest possible price, but if you're choosing between them you know exactly which one you're picking.
the least valuable comic is the one that is not only worth the lowest possible price, but *also* would never be picked over other, equally priced comics

May I suggest "Nolan Ryan #1" from Personality Comics that came bundled in a dollar store 3 for $1 pack in the mid-90s. Alternatively "The Chromium Man" from Triumphant comics from the same kind of bundle. Funny enough, my copy of Spawn #1 came in one of these bundles I horded as a pre-teen collector at the peak of the 90s craze.

My most valuable comic would probably be a Power Rangers comic signed by David Yost I got from him at Power Morphicon because he liked my Q&A question the best but to be honest, I completely failed at keeping it in good quality... It's probably still more valuable than any of the rare few others I own though (which includes Megaman NT Warrior vol 1, Future 5 #1 (even if Linkara reviewed it, it's even labeled as a free comic, along with the fact that it's a PSA not tied to literally any publisher (No publisher is credited as EdFund and the other origination credited are not publishers) , Shonen Jump September 2003 and uh... Gundam Wing Blind Target I borrowed from a public library for reasons unknown (I'm not a fan of Gundam Wing in particular) and never returned). My least valuable would probably be any of the ones I got at a Free Comic Book Day event.

My first ever comic book was Batman: The Dark Knight #4 from 2012. The mailman left it on top of the mailbox and it got rained on so there’s tons of water damage. Probably a 0.5 or 1 in quality. But man this is really making me want to preserve it because even though it’s a pretty terrible issue it was my first step on a hobby I’m still invested in today.

24:40 I knew the cgc sounded familiar. I could have sworn it was one of those companies that graded coins. I didn't know they graded other forms of collectibles too. Honestly, this is fantastic to know now. I hope they also do antiques and dying media. Cuz I got some VHS tapes and old films in an antique radio that I would love to get checked out.
Does anybody know of services where I can digitized old footage? I got some old 1930s footage from the Chicago fair that I want to digitize before that film becomes vinegar.

7:30 Oh, that's so funny! I have the Danish translated version of that comic, Dæmonen issue 8! Even this version goes for between $65-799 according to one of the most respected comic book stores in Denmark, Faraos Cigarer. Anyway, I got my somewhat beat up copy for a buck fifty. I guess my local used comic book store had the intern handle the price gun that day.

I don't really care for comics myself but seeing anyone destroy something like that for no real reason aside from "to lower its value" just hurts to see.
In my opinion I think purposely destroying it is cheating sense your looking for the most worthless comic book aka which comic outside of its visual quality is the lest valuable not "destroy a book not many people talk about and call it a day".

  • @ExMachinawful

What a fantastic video. Using the framing of “least valuable” to explore the grading process is such a great idea. Short of comics thrown in the trash, you may have gotten at least valuable although if you’re paying to grade any comic then it’s got some value to you.
