The Infiniti FX35 was one of the first SUV's to really abandon off-road performance and focus strictly on sporty on-road driving dynamics. Raised from the same family as the G35 Sedan, the FX35 features that ubiquitous VQ35 V6 Engine and its unique exhaust tone. This one has been modified with some bolt-on engine parts and an ECU tune, good for a livelier throttle response, and has been lowered on a set of Nissan GTR wheels.

I always liked the way these looked and sounded. They've aged well too I think.
Petrol_Head just bought one, I love it!
@@chuckyflo2229 when you want a g35 but you have a family, you buy one of these lol
@@55Berg I dont have a family, I'm still at school but Ive bought one of these xd
I have an 07 with 316k. Replaced exhaust cat back , a few speed sensors. New alternator. It's a really comfortable commuter car.
@@awr2024does it suck kn has I have a 2006 m35 was actually thinking bout getting one of these or a q56
Still the best Infiniti SUV.
better than FX45? or FX50?
This car will go down in history as the first hot and sexy SUV ever. One could say the F-pace / Velar are the spiritual successors to the original FX35.
u wrong !!! thisis the first ever porn design suv !!!!!!!!!!!! luv it
No way the BMW X5 designed by Frank Stephanson
@@dragospahontu first bmw x5 looks like big cow with fat ass there is nothig sexy about it
@@Kali-wb2zu it has the perfect proportions and it looks like a BMW.
There is nothing more that tou can want, that being said it wasn't actually a very good car.
@@dragospahontu imo bmw x5 e70 looks really nice, nevertheless the first generation looks old and not so sexy. However it was a good car. But here in Europe we have tons of BMWs. Infiniti is really exotic. When it appears people turn their heads haha
Plaid flannel - powerful dad move
fx body design is super beautiful
I want to give a big thanks to Matt for this video. I reviewed the fx35 back in April and no one watched it. UA-cam recommended my video after his and things went crazy. 36,000 views and 550 subscribers in 48 hours is crazy for a small channel like mine. Huge thanks Matt!
Man I love the FX I'm going on 5 years with mines and i still get excited like the first day I got it I love that vq v6
How is it maintenance wise bro?!
I was in the market for that sexy limited 12 Awd model for a family car
Also wondering how is maintenance
TFDCREW Maintenance is simple and easy. If you’re getting the 35, make sure the timing chain is good and make sure you get your oil change on time.
Had my fx 2006 for 6 years.. Runs like a champ. Almost 200k miles
I just got mine Iove it
Some breather mods....So whats actually on there?...breather mods....
james walton Basic VQ35DE stuff..intake and plenum spacer. The cat-back is useless but high flow cats/test pipes would add a couple of noticeable WHPs.
james walton hahahahahhaha
lol
.
i wouldnt say the infinit fx has aged one bit, we're in 2022 and i've still yet to see a crossover suv that looks and sound better than the fx
When the FX sounds more like a Z than my Z 😳
This platform was so ahead of it's time that it still looks very modern despite being manufacturered 20 years ago. Infiniti/Nissan needs to go back to making cars the way they used to. The Infiniti FX was the first affordable crossover to achieve mainstream acclaim.
This car looks nearly ageless & looks so good
Facts
It doesnt look ''nearly ageless'' not to me atleast...to me it is ageless, a collectors car...im looking to collect and mod as many of the first and second gen FXs as i can.
The v6 sounds amazing, these things are great.
I had an FX45 back in the day. Great car!!
I love the fx35, especially the fx45, true Luxury and tech for its time
I beat a wrx with mine on the highway and I've also beat the sentra Sr turbo as well. 192,000 miles and still strong.

I've always loved the original FX35. When it came out, I knew that this was going to be the future for a lot of luxury manufacturers...SUVs with more sport than utility...I think enthusiast based/sport based SUVs are terrific and we need more of them. I think MINI should do really try and nail a sporty SUV out of the park, if BMW lets them I guess...
I have an 06 infiniti FX35 and I love it!!
Me too... black n chrome
The best car I have ever owned . 88,000 miles 13,000 old and still look new .
I had a 350z around the same time these came out and stock vs stock the FX35 was much louder and sounded better.
I am as anti "suv" as it gets (as in I really don't see the purpose or the advantage over a hatchbak or wagon), but I always loved the fx styling and that glorious sounding vq
eeshunique You've been reading too much jalopnik lolol
The problem is that wagons don't really get made anymore :(
The problem is that wagons don't really get made anymore :(
In the US, not in Europe. Almost every car in Europe has a wagon variant.
I feel the same. One of the few SUV's I wouldn't mind owning.
The (suv) that was ahead of it's time!!!
I have a FX45 that God blessed me with, it is awesome. I think it handles great for a SUV and I say that because I also have a z33 so I know what good handling feels like. Nissan did a great job with these vehicles.
Is it expensive maintainance?
The classic grocery getter
can't put my finger on what it is about infiniti... but I just really really like them :')
Took the FX35 AWD recently from LA to
Monterey and despite the weight the CUV can haul ass and still hug the switchbacks. I’m coming from owning an Scion FRS and right now currently own 03 G35 Sedan Manual. The FM platform of the Z/G/FX/M is one of Nissan’s saving graces.
no sapphire crystals were hurt in the making of this video
This thing looks great with the drop and rims!
It Does
Klasse Act Especially with those rims
ok this has made my year to see someone that loves cars and digs the first gen FX's.
Glad to see this FX make it back, looks great in person. Thanks Dave and Matt for showing it. Didn't know they came in 2wd also.
I luv it when trucks, wagons, or suvs, get reviews. keep up the great stuff!!!
Got one a few months ago never heard of them before that; absolutely in love with it.
never seen an fx35 modded, this should be interesting
I have a fx35 now but I had a 2006 m45 I loved that car
Hey guys. I'm the owner. Ha! Some of the comments are pretty funny.
Looks like my wheelwell got left off. If anyone's interested, here's the link: wheelwell.com/dave-k-1/8ip/2005-infiniti-fx35
Dave K hey do you have a ig
Thx! You're so right, but California Smog rules kill. If I'm to add more power, I'd F/I it. My main goal was to get the handling right since I do canyon runs in it & have every GTSpec brace installed that one can get. I can also run mid 140's at Big Willow without a sweat. for what it is, it keeps up fairly well in the twisties
Dave K do you hAve a instagram
I normally hate crossovers but your FX is really cool(even if it only has the V6 :P). Have you ever thought about V8 swapping it? I'm also curious if the 5.6 from the Titan and Armada would fit
Thx Sean. Not a V8 Swap, but have thought about boosting it's 6. It's the natural route for more power on the VQ.
Sounds good, looks menacing all lowered and its got tons of space: Great alternative for a hot wagon. Those GTR rims look awesome on the car!
I've always liked the FX35 and its siblings for being a RWD based crossover rather than the plethora of FWD based ones. If I needed something bigger than a small hatchback I'd 1000% consider one.
I always loved how these sounded, I was jealous that it sounded better than my old g37.
the best sounding mass production v6?
Flame Beats nah not really
Flame Beats no lie this sounds better than a GTR
The best sounding has to be between the ftype and the 2017 camaro rs. The r35 sounds really bad
emilio blanco no lie i have a odyssey that sounds 10x better then this ;)
Got to be the Alfa Romeo Busso 2.5 engine From 155, 156 and 147 GTA.
That FX35 should get the phenolic intake manifold kit, big bore throttlebody, headers, and a 4" intake if he has a piggyback to tune with. He'd love the power gaines from those mods.
The looks of this car is sick. I love the blacked out details. I never wanted or liked SUV's, but this car has definite appeal to it.
The FX has always been one of those cars that were cool but you just never wanted to buy unless you somehow stumbled upon one
bmwmsport11 I feel like that about a lot of Infiniti's. Saw it as a young boy, parents would go look at Infiniti, then just end up buying something German.
I went out of my way to find a fx45. It was pretty awesome.
I was trying to get a Chevy cobalt, I ended up with a 06 fx35... its something about that car that makes you wanna tune it lol. I'm dad too so.... yeah it's a win, I dont street race, but it feels like I do when I hit that gas... its luxury tier so its suppose to be sexy, not an indy car racer
I love my 07’ more than when we got it as our family car. Its remained good looking and fun, it Sounds great, and I still get comments from people thinking it’s a newer car, besides some of the leather tearing on the seat. Has little touches that set it apart, like Seat and steering console move when u get in, has auto cruise control (an old version), an LCD screen that hasn’t aged too badly. Peppy and responsive throttle, and athletic handling. It could use more HPs and better breaks, but what vehicle doesn’t? A Very fun and practical daily driver.
The FX50s are really sick. Sound even better, too.
Theres just something so God damn fun about Infinitis. JDM for life.
Love this car and always wanted one. It looks so cool and even years later still looks awesome. They knocked it out the park when they made it. Too bad they didn't continue to make super cool cars.
Is that Bob Saget?
I was thinking the same thing lmao
Anwar Stigley I was thinking Adam Carrolla...
Anwar Stigley
more like Thomas Jane or Aaron Eckhart
I own the same year model, but AWD. Great car, good power, great sound, and firm ride. I also lowered the car with similar suspension set-up featured in this video. It still runs and feels better than some new cars sold today. But it's showing it's age with the transmission, and the stock breaks are really bad.
So true on the brakes. These are Akebono direct swap from the G37S. I've killed a few stock size rotors on the track before swap. Brakes much better now
Hey, good to finally see your car up, and good to meet you! Cool stuff, and I still say the GTR wheels look better on this car.
Z power with the ability to haul your friends around. Awesome
Still a great video to watch. Back before Smoking Tire got big. This helped me with some decisions on my FX and have zero regrets with the car. Stay on the standard maintenance and these are an absolute workhorse. Some suspension, brake, and ‘stage 1’ tuning and it’s fun, reliable, and a fraction of the cost of a new sport suv. The FX has really stood the test of time visually and mechanically. Sure there are quirks and things that need replacing…but these first Gen FXs are nearly two decades old.
Any suggestions with the oil burn?
@@Br99klynINg24_8 - There aren’t too many known gremlins for these, but oil burn is one of them. Seems to vary from one car to the next. I’ve been pretty fortunate and only have to add 1/4 a 1/2 quart between oil changes. I’ve read some guys having to add quite a bit more. Outside of checking oil levels every 2-3 fill ups and topping off, not sure what the fix is.
@rumpfy thanks for the response. Ahh, well, the car is so damn gr8t even with that. I have 0 complaints about the car.
VQs all day !!!
Man I just dusted a 2020 Benz in my 2006 fx35 . The suv drives like a car at times especially at high speeds I look at the car every time an say I shouldn’t be able to do that in this vehicle. It corners like no other great vehicle for the dads out there who still like a little fun sometimes😂
How does it handle at speeds of 85 mph and above? Ive been in cars in which they feel very unstable at anywhere above 85 mph. How do these handle in high speeds? I know the G37 is very stable and comfortable at 100+ just wondering if these are the same?
@@Nestle245 exactly like a g35 w justca tad bit more weight
@@Br99klynINg24_8 That's amazing i'ma go get one then.
It's awesome to see more well done, sporty suvs on the show! And that motor just creates some beautiful sounds. One of the best, if not thee best sounding production v6 in the world!
The guy in the blue looks so scared of his driving 😂😂😂
there is so much bounce in riding. you can see how both of them are just jumping around in their seats just regularly driving. id definitely check the suspension and tires
We used to have a black 1st gen FX35. Never was a fan of the stock droning exhaust note, but that motor would sure rev and get up and go for a big SUV. With the 20" wheels, the suspension would beat you up though, a common complaint in car reviews. Every little pebble, bump, or crease in the road is transmitted directly to your neck and back - very little damping.
what a beautiful drive.
hey matt ive been having trouble with my balls lately.
they stick to my thighs too often when its hot out,
have any recommendations?
thanks
ekdromoi spatchula! Lol
Talcum powder, watsa matter with you, eh,?
I have the same one... man I can't believe how enjoyable they are when u drive it
considering it's the 350z of suvs, how much more fun and engaging would it be with a six speed manual
maxxjett films The manual trans that came with the vq35 is trash especially the early ones. I know because I owned a 6mt G35 sedan for 5 years.
DJ MotoVlogs still more fun!
DJ MotoVlogs and totally worth it
DJ MotoVlogs why were they trash? CD009 right?
They used 3 transmissions over the course of the VQ35 right? I'm pretty sure the CD009 was close to bulletproof
my favourite suv of all time
You should do a "watch collection" video and call it a OneTime ;)
"Tadashi, sounds like the kind of guy that would tune one of these." HAHAHAHA
I've had an FX35 @140+ mph back in like '11. They are quick
IIdemonII I beat the new sentra Sr turbo with mine, and a couple other cars.
Hey do you recommend to buy one Whit 90000 miles
Just picked one up recently to complement my 2004 Lexus GS430, can’t wait and I’ve owned many VQ Nissans/Infiniti.
i never had anything bad to say about the FXs, my cousin had an FX35 here in new york and overseas my family had the FX50 which was badass and the 2nd gen 35 before that
This show has been nothing but boats lately
OscarMaris and watches and sunglasses.
man, it's almost as if Matt wants a little extra income from sponsorships so that he can keep giving us free content. Don't like the literal minute of sponsored content? fast forward thru it buddy

He literally did 2 boat vids only....
ha! got em
Just great man, thanks for sharing a great ride for a mature adult who still wants fun
INLOVE WITH MY FX35
That is surprisingly sporty for an SUV like that.
I've never clicked on a One Take so fast, first gen FX has yet to be unseated as my all time favorite SUV. Never seen one so tastefully modified, normally I just see them shot and riding on 30s in VA. Such a travesty to a beautiful SUV.
I have a 2007 FX35 S and I absolutely love it. At 145,000 miles and definitely do not want to sell it yet. Reminds me how incredible Nissan/Infiniti engineering is. No wonder they put this engine in three classes sports/sedan/crossover. My next car I plan to get a Q50 S.
No such thing as a 2007 FX35 S
@@thatsyrianguy487 You're right. It was never badged that way. I mean it has the sport package.
Don’t ever sell it, just not worth it for a few grand.
inSAYn you’re so right. I adore this car.
He’s fucking flying !
If the FX35 has the same design radiator/ trans cooler as the 2006-2009 R51 pathfinder then yes, the radiators causing a catastrophic failure of the transmission. People in the pathfinder community, myself included, would immediately bypassed the trans cooler in the radiator and install an external trans cooler. There was also a class action lawsuit filed against Nissan since they wouldn't address the radiator issue that countless transmission failures.
Always wanted to see a review on this!
I love my FX and she FLYS
the fx45 is pretty cool as well
Wait a person can repair brakes before you do a video, news to me
3 brakes is better than 4

FX35: aged very well… Vincero Watches: 🤣
I know this is an old video but I love those modifications. The middle console looks sick - what is it?
Im thinking of selling my FX45 but its such a beast!
Hahha, been waiting for one these! His FX is awesome. Literally a g35! You know what's even more nuts? An FX45 😼 but this thing is awesome. He's got pretty much a g35 wagon fuck I love that
About to buy one an this video made my mind up
I love this car
I like how you cleaned up the engine bay. Sanitary for sure.
Sweet, Thx. 50K low miles helps
ive always said the FX35 is the only suv i would buy
I am now driving my dads 2003 fx35 and it sounds amazing and drives amazing and works like it is brand new.
Nothing like the 45
This car is surprisingly cool
I have the 2017 QX70 Limited which is the very last year and model of the 2nd gen FX. At first I was not the biggest fan of the headlights and grill but it grew on me and the 3.7 liter VQ37 puts out a healthy 325 HP. I still think that it is one of the nicest and distinctive looking SUV's on the road. I'd like to have Matt Farah take it for a test drive and share his opinions.
Still one of my favorite SUVs... Exterior-wise it was really ahead of its time... Actually, the interiors looked really nice on the trim levels that had the red, cinnamon, leather, etc...
I just got an 04 fx35 from my mom for free, dealer maintained with a 100k on the clock. Never really payed it any attention until I turned it on and noticed the growl, popped the hood and saw the VQ. My mom shrugged her shoulders and said "it's your now, don't want it. What the place to get upgrades for these cars.
Everything onlind
Yes a always get pumped when i see a car like this on the thumbnail
this Smoking Tire episode has some I Love you Man vibes. Nice car, Joben
He said they look cool when they were new, I say I am 3rd year on my FX 45 and believe me every time I look at that SUV I feel something I can not describe that, but the owner of FX 35 FX 45 know what I mean
Amen... like its alive hahaha
FX has 1 of the sweetest exhaust sounds for a V6. Only thing better is maserati ghibli, alfa quadro and porsche
Does the watch have a pouch for me to put my junk in?
Can't wait to see Mat's take on the Q60 RS400, especially if he can find one tuned and with an exhaust.
He's right! Should have gone for the FX45
Whao this thing sounds like s g35 and has a Z steering wheel with an infinity emblem, that's kinda cool.
