The best part of Companion Cavalry being the City-State's specialty is that it means Greece isn't in the game. A game without Greece is a good game in my opinion.
I love all of your vids Marb. Keep up the great work. I watch you more than tv now. Much thanks for sharing your humor and playstyle with the rest of the world.
I get a stupid grin on my face every time I see a new civ 5 series on this channel. "more ruins" Thanks marbozir I'm sure it's gonna be an awesome playthrough.
The Mongols are never really a threat to me in my games, surprisingly. They mostly take out city states. Plus he's good for a warmonger strategy, since he has very low warmonger hate and often has a large, luxury rich civilization to keep your happiness up. Plus since most civs will hate him, he will often have them free for trading. :P I so agree the Keshik is op. On a Pangaea type map, you can go on a massive and quick conquest of the world. By the time I got up to cavalry, I had taken out most of the civs with the hit and run attacks. But then again, I had a friend playing as Poland, and I traded some Keshiks for Hussars. :p
Most players would have checked before recording if it had been worth moving the settler and despite such a difficult starting position Marbozir just rolls with it, and will probably still win this
Marbozir doesn't do this kind of trick - he never reloads game (only when game has crashed). That's his gameplay style, like a real strategist - what has been done it can’t be undone.
Interesting map. Looks like it would be good to settle a city in between your current cities next (probably next to the mountain/lake - not too close to Germany), which will cut off your territory from them, then down on the coast by the silk. I would stay away from the flatlands to the east as well as toward the Mongols - that would be asking for trouble. You can carve yourself out a fairly defensible territory in your little corner. Maybe you can get Germany to war with the Incas? It also looks like your UU's aren't going to be very useful on this map. They rarely are on Deity in BNW (they used to be good in G&K). It's just too hard to war early enough in BNW to utilize the Roman UU's since you lose so much (delayed NC to build units, delayed Education, diversion to research the bottom of the tech tree, loss of trade route partners, early warmongering issues, etc.). Maybe a few legions eventually for defense and to help build roads, but I wouldn't delay Education to get them.
What do yiu think of this policy-chain: opener for honor than tradition? That way, every barbarianyou kill gives you a bit of culture (I've noticed 8 for brutes and 7 for Archers). In the beginning, with the barbarian attacs on our cities and the quests from CS, it's a way of getting those earlier policies faster. What are your thoughts on that?
For me the main problem is not that other policy trees are bad (because they're not), it's that Tradition is so strong. You miss out on a lot if you don't go full Tradition - extra growth, up to 8 buildings for free, wonder production bonus, extra city strength when garrisoned, ability to faith buy GE's... it's just so good.
One policy doesn't matter that much in the late game. I was doing that on lower difficulty levels (king) where you get those big bonuses against barbs. Tradition opener first though, I only went for Honor when I was actually able to farm barbs = if you find a culture ruin maybe even after the free culture building policy. On higher difficulty levels I'm a big fan of cutting every corner I can, that also means less military units. You need to commit 2 archers minimum that won't be defending and won't be exploring and will cost you gold per turn/production/upgrades and you need to find a barb camp in a good location where the AI can't clear it. Can you make that work on a map where you don't have a lot of space and the AI will settle every single piece of land? I guess it's highly situational, if you're the Aztecs, the bonus is huge. If you're up to the north or south where barbs will spawn next to ice, maybe. But if you can make it work, why should anything be wrong with it?
I get it, it depends on dificulty level and location of the barbarian camp. But an option never the less, as TheKlaun9 pointed out, in some situations.
Yeah a lot of the time when in going honour or liberty I adopt tradition first because the extra culture makes up for its self and the hanging gardens are very good for growth, and they can help with production aswell seeing as they can support 3 citizens.
So many possibilities to steal workers. I get why he doesn't do it with that influence and Mongolia, but it still hurts a little bit to see that. I think it's still worth it, but I'm no tactical genius like Marb
I would still settle by the river with the plains. And buy tiles to that 6 iron. He is expanding to your area, he may be the next war. You seem to have lakes as a buffer to the Mongols. Otherwise I'd go to the iron/silk, and put 2 cities. 1 coastal for silk/iron and the other by the 2 iron for the tiles you will miss. Just IMO. Will be sweet to see a legion/ballistics attack when you unlock those techs.
Smart AI probably makes barbarians a lil bit more stupid, cause they left all their camps undefended, which they usually don't do. Btw, should be really interesting LP ;)
In the last game where you played as Hungary, if it wouldn´t been for your pantheons: "+1 faith for desert tiles" and "Holy warriors" the game would have been much harder! :D
tbh i see no point in polls like this where people can easily manipulate results by using voting bots (there was that sudden portugal vote bomb and it's even possible that someone messed with venice's or rome's votes). there should be an option to make a poll on youtube available only for registered users, it would at least discourage some people from ruining the fun.
I'm so glad you stopped using those fake civs - that is honestly the first LP that really started to grate by the end. I had fun watching it; just not at the same level I normally would.
In my opinion it is almost never a good idea to abandon your starting location, the lost turns you will never get back. Plus whats so wrong with a riversite?
Those lost turns amount to what? Maybe 1 or 2 culture, science, and gold? Not a big risk when you consider that it may put you closer to some better tiles sooner.
Is a coastal city (in the south) really that much better than starting a city in the middle of all those juicy resources? Yeah you'll miss cargo ships but I would think you'd more then make up for it.
Instead of wasting a lot of time building a worker, just take 1 or 2 from city states. I'd build a granary then settlers. That Ragusa worker was a perfect opportunity right when you built that second scout the cs worked was right on your capital border. You also passed right by 2 other cs workers on your way to find the ocean. I am not a fan of scouting with your warrior through the rough terrain. Its just too slow. Better to bring him back for escorting settlers, defending against barbarians, and taking unguarded workers from AI if the opportunity arises
i think that was very bad idea to move u had a good starting position already and not to mention moving close to city state....well it must have happened for good
well as the other dude sayed this game looks meh... the original location of your capital was rly better. i am suprised u leaved the river for a lake for the pursuit of more luxuries.. that location to the south with the silk seems to be on shakas part of the map and i belive he will atack you as long as u setle it. i think you are his closest neighbour. if u win this map =respect.. its so ugly map no luxurie, no strategic resources no decent cities. exept the one you left and the other one next to the river with propably bismarcks iron.. dunno my bet get honor and kilem all^

This is a gem of time, glad to see you're still doing well!
man, i just love you @Marbozir, you are the most entertaining civ player for me thanks!
Rome is my favorite civ in the game.
I love all of your vids Marb. Keep up the great work. I watch you more than tv now. Much thanks for sharing your humor and playstyle with the rest of the world.

Not sure why UA-cam is recommending your videos again rn but I love it. This is bringing back all the civ v vibes.
That's a promising start...seems we will have some nice battles going on in the near future...
I just stumbled on your channel today. I love it. Can't wait to keep watching!
With all those lakes I'd be very surprised if you're not in Finland. This'll be a fun playthrough!
WORLD DOMINATION. FEAR THE MARBOZIR!

I hope Ramkhantrollface makes an appearance.
Ye.
The rise of Rome begins. Don't worry about city placement, Rome wasn't built in a day. :^)
Those deer tiles will be insane later. Deer on jungle? Yeah. Five food, one gold, two science.
More civ More civ more cive, i love you man :\
Most players would have checked before recording if it had been worth moving the settler and despite such a difficult starting position Marbozir just rolls with it, and will probably still win this

I had never before seen deer on a jungle tile....
I found this video to be quite enjoyable.
Feeling thirsty for this one, and fuck yeah no Venice
why did you move your setler from good river spot and settle a capital in bad spot?
Yay for Scandinavia, but shame you didnt got any of the scandianivan countries, would have loved you to play as Sweden :). Rome is fine tough.
Nice potential for a good LP!
This would be a pretty sweet game for Patronage/Diplomacy victory, with this many city-states so close by.
So many possibilities to steal workers. I get why he doesn't do it with that influence and Mongolia, but it still hurts a little bit to see that. I think it's still worth it, but I'm no tactical genius like Marb
Miss the fort = canal feature of CivIV.

SPQR- Gloria Exercitus! For the Glory of Rome!
jungle deer tiles are pretty good tho
i have a feeling marbozir will have some bad times in this game, which is good )
Smart AI probably makes barbarians a lil bit more stupid, cause they left all their camps undefended, which they usually don't do. Btw, should be really interesting LP ;)
YEAH WHOOP WARBOZIR
Marbozir, are you excited for Beyond Earth? How do you feel about the changes to victory conditions?
In the last game where you played as Hungary, if it wouldn´t been for your pantheons: "+1 faith for desert tiles" and "Holy warriors" the game would have been much harder! :D
wait what
i saw the poll today and portugal won
way arent people voting sooner
Portugal was in last up until a few hours ago, that's either a glitch or someone hacked that many votes.
tbh i see no point in polls like this where people can easily manipulate results by using voting bots (there was that sudden portugal vote bomb and it's even possible that someone messed with venice's or rome's votes). there should be an option to make a poll on youtube available only for registered users, it would at least discourage some people from ruining the fun.
I'm so glad you stopped using those fake civs - that is honestly the first LP that really started to grate by the end. I had fun watching it; just not at the same level I normally would.
It would have been an excellent start for the mighty asztecs
In my opinion it is almost never a good idea to abandon your starting location, the lost turns you will never get back. Plus whats so wrong with a riversite?
Those lost turns amount to what? Maybe 1 or 2 culture, science, and gold? Not a big risk when you consider that it may put you closer to some better tiles sooner.
I would've preferred Egypt to Rome, but I'm just thankful it's not Venice.
Now I'm praying for a Shaka-Genghis alliance.
Yay! Scandinavia =3
Why not settle the gems?
Venice should be next after rome to be fair!
Is a coastal city (in the south) really that much better than starting a city in the middle of all those juicy resources? Yeah you'll miss cargo ships but I would think you'd more then make up for it.
I think it's worth it long-term, but grabbing more resources instead would also work just fine.
How do you cue multiple production items in the city screen?
is settling on a hill worth losing the river tiles?
Thank God you're not playing Venice.
How do you not have the nerfed Tradition? I have watched a lot of your LP's and I have always wondered this. If someone knows, that would be cool.
Forget the coast and take the city with 3 Irons and 2 stones It will have great food and production.
YES! Plz, Venice on a huge map on diety would be death. :/
Why is time victory an option?
I think you are in Norway
If you kept the poll open longer Portugal would have won - they currently have a good 15% on Rome.
Instead of wasting a lot of time building a worker, just take 1 or 2 from city states. I'd build a granary then settlers. That Ragusa worker was a perfect opportunity right when you built that second scout the cs worked was right on your capital border. You should try multiplayer with randoms or something.
shame about Venice not winning
Not really. Venice would have been insanely boring and maybe impossible without the ability to get wonders
mooseclamps Diety vinice game is the easiest way to win.
Why is it easy? I don't play much deity civ.
Sean Ladely you spam trade routes and you get loads of science and gold from them
Where are you from? I love your accent.
>Mongols
>In in Finland
How appropriate
you're in Finland fyi
shoulda done that venice
denounce rome... oh, wait, it's the algo actually... wow!
Lol someone hacked the poll!! Portugal actally won with 2000 votes? Oo
yep, something wrong happened to the poll but we have our winner so no need to worry about that too much ;)
o well no Uge
ROMEEEEEE
Oh well ok, Rome is great too XD
+1
yay rome won!
i think that was very bad idea to move u had a good starting position already and not to mention moving close to city state....well it must have happened for good
Thank god Venice didn't win!!
well as the other dude sayed this game looks meh... the original location of your capital was rly better. i am suprised u leaved the river for a lake for the pursuit of more luxuries.. that location to the south with the silk seems to be on shakas part of the map and i belive he will atack you as long as u setle it. i think you are his closest neighbour. if u win this map =respect.. its so ugly map no luxurie, no strategic resources no decent cities. exept the one you left and the other one next to the river with propably bismarcks iron.. dunno my bet get honor and kilem all^
Second!
All-stars of annoying civs
its only that if Siam is in the game
