It’d be great if you could talk about taste with your Grider video comparisons as that’s probably one of the biggest reasons why people would want to go with bigger burrs.
Makes no sense the measurement they did for "retention" 🙄 which is very simple to measure, weigh 18g of beans place in hopper, grind, weigh ground coffee that comes out. I thought these folks were supposed to be coffee aficionados 😒
What’s the the BEST Coffee Grinder for filter (not espresso) coffee that’s QUITE 🤫? Let’s say you have a newborn baby or a housemate who wakes up at 5 AM but desires quality fresh ground coffee while not waking up the whole house? Fellow Ode? Eureka Silenzo? Baratza(which one)? HELP❗️
i would really suggest a hand grinder if u need that level of quietness. it dosent cost u more than a min to grind even 20g of fitter coffee size. Consider u may also need to boil the water, u can just wait for the water to heat up when u are hand grinding ur coffee
Retention is the amount of ground coffee left in the machine, not the beans left in the burrs. It doesn't matter if the beans are in the burrs or in the hopper, they're still beans. The problem is the beans that have been ground. And then that coffee sitting around in the machine for a period of time. Ground coffee loses its freshness and then finds its way into the portafilter the following day/hours later.
I have the specialita now and love it - size, footprint and sound. I'm thinking of getting the XL, but not sure it's worth the cost to get the bigger burs. What do you think?
@@poppothepug2211 Too late. Got one for my birthday. Actually, I notice a difference. Quicker and not sure if it's in my mind, but espresso tastes a bit better. Either way, I'm happy I got it. Sold my Specialita for $400.
I considered both but chose the Specialita as the XL cost 60% more and the slightly lower hight suits my space. I single dose and the retention is very low. Its like a small pinch of coffee and is mainly from the chute. A small tap of the side of the machine can get it out however i dont bother.
Both, but keep in mind that when you’re going from espresso to filtered coffee, it can be a bit finicky. In order to make finer adjustments back to espresso, you have to run the grinder counterclockwise while the grinder is running.
I really hope you start selling the Eureka Oro Mignon Single-Dose grinder. I tried to buy it locally and unfortunately I have to order out-of-state now. :)
I am dying to see some science on the diamond inside. I think it's a recent invention. If they are to compete with SSP and redspeeed this could be huge
No actual diamonds used, it greatly extends the life of the burrs, but SSP / redspeed burrs have an longer lifespan, really it doesn't matter for home use, standard steel burs might be good for 10-20 years , Diamond Treated maybe 50-80, Redspeed maybe 80 - 100 years . Something like that anyway. I suspect the down side of a harder burr or coating is that it also takes longer to season and start tasting best.
The erroneous notion of what retention actually means does not create much confidence in the expertise of Seattle Coffee Gear... You owe it to yourselves to make a correction.
You are very wrong with retention opinion... The XL is way better with 16 gr out than the Specialita with only 13 gr out. Thar means that in the Specialita it reains 3 more grams than in the XL
yes..you are corect. and when you close the hopper the better grinder gives the most grounds..and that is tge XL that released 16 grams and not the specialita that released only 13 grams (it means that at least more thant 3 grams are retained in the burrs area )
It is a posibility yes. But it is not only that. The diameter of the funnel that brings the beans to the burrs is the same in the 2 grinders. Only the ground chamber (the hole of ths burrs) is slightly bigger in the XL but not that big to give 3 grams more...my opinion
I love Seattle coffee gear a lot but please make sure you have solid knowledge for making video like this. Really don't want to see a big name been ruining...
It’d be great if you could talk about taste with your Grider video comparisons as that’s probably one of the biggest reasons why people would want to go with bigger burrs.
Retention is the leftovers inside the burr chamber and along the chute when the grinder is supposed to be empty.

@@KeithDenny I had the same reaction. They didn't measure retention.
Thank you. but in a cup, does the XL really make a better espresso?
What the hell was that retention test lol
Can someone please explain to her what retention is?
"This is how I measure retention"
K... but you're wrong
I am shocked by this retention review.
When she started to explain, I first didn‘t understand your comment. But then She continued and I saw it 😁
ikr
Looking forward to XL vs the atom 75
Probably less retention on the XL but more flavour clarity on the Atom 75 due to the larger burrs.

Nice comparison. Thanks. But that retention part was hella weird...
Do they have a “will not clog” line? I’ve returned mine after months of routine clogging. Shopping for something new now.
u meant the XL or the Specialita?

How do you work for and make videos for a coffee equipment company, and have absolutely no idea how coffee grinder retention is actually measured???

No, it’s nothing special other than a steel treatment giving it harder surface!

Considering upgrading from the Rancilio Rocky now to either Specialita, or maybe i should go all the way to XL. Is Specialita an upgrade at all?
I went with the XL, and it is worth it. Faster, more quiet grind and the retention is hardly anything.
I’m looking to upgrade from the Rocky. What did you end up going with? And how does it compare
