- a song for our world builder. his love is evident.
find me on Twitter (@lilli_furfaro) and Instagram (@lilli_furfaro_music)
i breathe stories
i breathe them in and out
there’s nothing like the witness of a world that’s being born
i breathe stories
my lungs are filled with pirate ships
and towers built, and towers falling down
i speak rivers into motion
i raise mountains with abandon
i write cities sprawling over land
and people to complete them
i tell stories of my family in a world that i have written
and my family breathes my stories
my love is etched in continents and seas
we are stories
beginnings, middles, ends
our power lies in living lives that touch a life or two
we are stories
our families have grown to hold the lives
that touch the lives
that touch the lives that we do
we are poetry in motion
and our words give life to action
in this world we’ve built on games of chance
and hours of introspection
let our stories turn to tidal waves
that sweep our families home again
and maps are etched in memories
and melodies
and who we want to be
i breathe stories
i breathe them in and out
and stories stitched together are how families are born
we are stories
our lives are built on weaving all our stories
into worlds we call our own
we are power, we’re devotion
love each other with abandon
we are rivers, mountains, cities
and the tapestry that holds them
my heart is in the brushstrokes
of the world that i have written
and my family breathes my stories
my love is etched in continents and seas
Lilli, Mom and I are so proud of your work here over the past two months. You are a talented, passionate, creative and soulful artist. Whatever comes of this, be blessed as you have blessed others.
this is my favorite comment
Thank you for being her support of love. I am a stranger, but her songs are so sweet and loving and it can only be that way due to how she was supported by the people in her life.
this is the sweetest thing 💕💕🥺🥺
What a gift. From top-to-bottom. An absolute privilege to be able to share in your daughter's music with such a wonderful community. Her talent is unmistakable, and the hard, hard work is plain on its' face. Thank you all.
💚💚💚
Btw if you weren't aware yet, this is on Matt's "favourites" UA-cam playlist.
Did you see that he uploaded the proposal yesterday? This is how i found out he favorited the song ^^

I’m so glad that CR have seen these
This is so wholesome
If "Roll the Dice" is CriticalRole's opening theme, this has to be their closing credits. 100%
It's just... marvelous.
Critters, you know what to do!
All of my Yes, please!
Couldn't be said better! And I hope it shows the Mighty Nein gathered together back at home, looking at the rising sun with triumphant looks.
@CriticalRole, please make this happen!
Hmmmm... yes
It's a bit long for their end screen, but there's plenty of time during the intermission slide show.
This song is the Dungeon Masters anthem, every time I’m gonna run a game, I’m gonna listen to this song to pump me up
Truly
As a short time GM, yes it is.
Yes
Yes
100000000000% I'm crying. It's beautiful
I did a little googling for us non-Twitter-havers and yes, Lili's songs have made their way to the CR cast. Here's what I've found and feel free to add more because this stuff is my crack:
Matt about this song: "AHHHHHH THE TEARS AND SMILES.
Matt tweeted the link again a few weeks later and said, "Once again, I find myself coming back to this incredible song. Lilli hits it on the nose: we are stories, and the families we invite to write and tell them with us. This song transcends my involvement... this is for every artist that brings their craft to share their story.
You are much appreciated for finding these and putting them in the comment section. I was just wanting to know if the cast had heard these
If Lilli was a Bard in one of Matt's stories, the whole party would have permanent inspiration.
Lilli Bard of Valor, milk for you in the mead halls !
If my players knew this song. Totally
I'd love it if they had her on for an episode to improv little diddies throughout the game ❤️
I get why Lilli is crying--this song isn't just about Matt, this is a feeling all writers, all artists can resonate with. Our shared joy of creating beauty in this world by making worlds of our own. Matt's continued passion for crafting stories is an inspiration. And this beautiful song is one, too.
she nearly broke at the end - very moving
I can understand why. This is not my song, and yet the feelings it evoked were so powerful!
I don't know if I have ever felt so seen by a person I've never met.
You don't know me, Lilli... But. I. Love. You.
Sadie McC Exactly! It’s to all of us who write and create stories of our own and our love for it
This song makes me cry every time I sing along to it.
I feel, or interpret, this song as about all people, not just those who create things. As far as we know, we are the only species in the whole universe that can reflect upon its own existence, and the existence of that universe. Through our minds and words, we give meaning to that existence, and that universe. We name places and connect them, not only with roads, but also with thoughts. We raise our voices for the things that are worth fighting for. And we leave our deeds to be told in the stories of the future we cannot even phatom, we leave our ideas and actions in the culture that connects us to one another.
This might have been just an unbelievably amazing song for one great, one of the greatest, storytellers of today, comparable to the giants of old, Matt Mercer. But to me... this song is about every single one of us individually, and about all of us together, and about every single person and all the peoples that were here before, as well as those who will come after.
“Stories stitched together are how families are born.”
That’s a really great line.
Seriously, that's some tattoo quality writing, there ❤❤
I'm reminded of something Brian said to Matt in Between the Sheets: "In the end, you made someone feel not so alone." I think this perfectly echoes that. Annnnd I'm crying. Fantastic as always, Lilli. I can't wait to see what's next!
Ah Brian... just the best interviewer. No other interview based show has ever made me cry. But he just goes in on the tough stuff, so naturally too
Well said about something that was well said.
Additionally, Lilli succeeded at that too.
Yes! Matt Mercer is the ONLY person I don't know personally that makes me feel all warm and fuzzy when he says, "Know that we love you very much." His sincerity really comes across and that line has made me cry on multiple occasions.
This feels like a love letter to everyone. Not just Matt ❤️
The emotion in Lilli's voice and on her face when she delivers that last line, "and my family breathes my stories
, my love is etched in continents and seas.' - I believe that this also reflects her feelings about how our CR family has embraced her creations as well. It must bring her so much joy, and I this makes me happy.
She barely holds it together, but here I am thinking I couldn't even sing to the first chorus without tearing up.
That line made me tear up. Sobbing is threatening...
Lilli: I wanna touch Matt's heart with my Song of Stories
Matt (probably): *Weeps*
SPAM MATT'S SOCIALS!!!

Lilli’s really tryin to make everyone cry, huh
She's doing a damn good job of it lol
i think you mean succeeding in making everyone cry
Waterworks, activate
Not try. Succeeds easily :D
I don't think she's failed yet ._. whether because it's sad or beautiful I cry shamelessly each week.
Oh my god, lilli. Oh my god
Of all the other songs this was the one that I cried the most while listening. Matt deserves this so much, we are really blessed to have him
And we are blessed to have you, too
I want to frame "our power lies in living lives that touch a life or two", what a beautiful line. This song is such a celebration, and I absolutely love it
"...and stories stitched together are how families are born..."
I just can't.
My family is much more comprised of people who have chosen to love me as opposed to the family I was born into, and this line just destroys me. Thank you for this gift of your music, Lilli...this line is a little bit my new motto.
I'm right there with you, this line absolutely touched something deep in my heart cause that's when the waterworks started.
The saying blood is thicker than water comes to mind, cause most don't know that the full expression means pretty much the exact opposite of what everyone thinks it means, it's this: "the blood of the covenant is thicker than the water of the womb" meaning the relationships we form in life mean more than the ones we're born into, and i live by that every day of my life.
Yes, absolutely this. My family are all chosen family at this point, whether I share genetics with them or not, and most of them, I don't. I love this line so, so much.
When Matt's dream becomes a reality and Critical Role Land becomes a thing, this should be the song playing at the entrance, welcoming everyone inside.
"our families have grown to hold the lives
, that touch the lives, that touch the lives that we do" I LOVE THIS LINE SO MUCH! I mean, I love all the lines, but there's something about this line.
I'll admit, I'm still trying to understand it, why it repeats unless it's just for melody's sake. Curious to hear what your interpretation is.
@@LordVader1094 I think it's saying that critical role has grown from just being a group of friends roleplaying in their rooms to now being this big family with a community of people that all make each other feel less alone, all touching the lives around them. I think it's a nod to all the creators in the community and how their art, no matter what medium, touches the community and adds life to it.
Hopefully that made some semblance of sense.
Just reading "For matt" I knew tears where going to be involved
The way you cut straight to the heart of these characters and people.. I didn't know it was possible to roll so many consecutive critical successes on Insight checks :,)
"I tell stories of my family in a world that I have written, and my family breathes my stories" had my heart in my throat IMMEDIATELY. Lilli! How do you put words to the very heart of the people you dedicate to?!? ❤❤❤
Edit: DON'T YOU DARE CRY OR WE WILL ALL BAWL HARDER WITH YOU! 😭❤😭
To late! 😭😭😭❤
"Games of chance and hours of introspection" just made me cry into my tea cup so thank you
The raw emotion! When you said "my family breathes my stories" it made me tear up. What a fitting end to a brilliant series!
I'm sad to realize she had indeed done all of them
@@GeldarionTFS I'm hanging on for Kiri's song
I can't believe I didn't think Matt was going to get a song!!! I love this so much!!!!!
Also, no- thank you💙
This is the *perfect* song for Matt.
Also, my 5 year old daughter tells stories from sun up to sun down and I cannot help but think of her when you sing this. Everything is a story for her and I cannot wait to see all of the worlds she creates as she gets older. Thank you so so much for this gift.
3 years later and I still weep every time I hear this song. This is what gave me fuel to keep living. I breathe stories. Family, friends, we all are stories on this tapestry and I breathe life from them all. Thank you Lilli, you have no idea the lives you have saved and changed with your music
🥰🥰😭😭🥰🥰 can’t hear this without thinking of my Forever GM. He’s gone now, but will always live in our ♥️. Thnx again for making me feel even when I’m trying to avoid.
Have you heard tale of Lilli Furfaro
She'll sing songs like there's no tomorrow
With both beauty and grace
Every song's an ace
So there's no reason to feel sorrow
So let's all enjoy this songstress
Who hits our hearts so monstrous
With wonderful lyrics
That'll heal our spirits
We're so happy to have her amongst us
I hope the double limericks are good enough. Take care, everyone, don't forget to love each other, and... Is it Thursday yet? Have a great rest of your day.
This is straight up gorgeous, and I am thrilled to have had the honour to hear your songs. Hope to find them on Spotify or similar soon. Thanks for brightening 2020 up for us all ❤️❤️❤️
Spotify would be great. I know it can be tricky getting music on there through
Phoebe Tozer Yeah, it might be a long shot, but we can hope :)
She does post them on BandCamp, if you are willing to pay $1 per song. I generally use Spotify myself, but each of these songs was a bit to special to miss out on.
Buy this beautiful music on her bandcamp. She's obviously earned it!!
@@Jalcudas will do! I had no clue they were up there.
As a Critter, I love this as Matthew Mercer's song
As a Dungeon Master and simple storyteller (my job was storytelling, story lining, theming) myself, I love this because it's perfect.
As much as I love all the other songs and characters, I think this is the one song of yours that consistently makes me cry just listening to it. As a storyteller myself, and someone who loves reading, I feel like this song just really encapsulates the importance of stories and living vicariously and building safe places to help inspire others and allow them to become their best selves. It's just so beautiful and breathtaking.
So when are you getting a record deal? Cause I would listen to anything you put out, because every single thing you’ve put out is so utterly unfathomably beautiful. I truly cannot wait to see what you put out next and through out the future
"Our families have grown to hold the lives that touch the lives that touch the lives that we do" and boy, how it have grown. I still remember years ago when I found about CR. Perfect ending for this collection of amazing songs. Whatever path you choose to take Lili, know that you are talented, and the family you touched and will be here to support you.
I actually cried at the lyrics "I write cities sprawling over land and people to complete them." This is beautiful, thank you for sharing.
SOY
"we are power, we're devotion / love each other with abandon"
I'M GOING TO CRY
Can't wait for sprinkle's song!!
I feel like Sprinkle's song would be immigrant song by led zeppelin idk why XD
It was actually her first one, but it died too.
Daniel Taber Oh no
I selected a line from this song for my senior quote, "Our power lies in living lives that touch a life or two". It's always hit me right in the feels from the first time I listened to the song. Thank you
As someone who has been running games for years now, who takes immense pride in building worlds and telling stories, this was so beautiful. Such a loving tribute to a true master storyteller who has shared so much with not just us, but his family around the table as well.
This is my favourite yet, and that's saying something with the plethora of amazing, soulful songs you've written. Thank you for writing not only to a dungeon master, but to Matt directly, as the CR we all love is truly a world of his creating, and lived in by not only the cast, but all of use thanks to his efforts in sharing his worldbuilding. Your lyrics paint a picture that is both a portrait and a platform, and I once more say Bravo! Thanks Lilli.
I still cry over this song. Every. Single. Time. What a message. What a ride. It's a nostalgia trip in the most heartbreakingly happy way.
Every one of these songs has been phenomenal, with depth, emotion, and style; but this? This is a masterpiece, and somehow it feels like I song I knew before I heard it.
"We are poetry in motion, and our words give life to action"
I can't think of a line that better describes what you and your songwriting does, Lilli. You have this breathtaking ability to give so much life and weight to the abstract emotions and sentiments we all feel about these wonderful nerds playing a tabletop game together. I am sitting here on my third listen *still* wiping tears away because of how heartfelt and meaningful this song clearly is to you, and how wonderful a tribute it is to our sweet boi, Matt freakin' Mercer.
Keep shining your spark of joy and inspiration in these trying times, my friend. You have no idea how much these songs have meant so much to so many as they've been coming out. I have a playlist with your songs right there on standby because they always take me away and make me feel better when the anxiety gets bad.
Thank you :)
I imagined this playing over Matt’s close out of the finale and if I hadn’t already been crying this would have done it.
As as GM who struggles with believing in my own importance this... is important.
I love all your songs but this one is the one that made me cry. Thank you. You write songs that are stories that touch the lives of people you don't know. They are truly beautiful
Back here after the ending of the journeys of the Mighty Nien. Your songs are cherries on top of a desert I thoroughly enjoyed.
Crying listening to this after the campaign 2 finale
3 years on and I still tear up listening to this song....
I don't think I can put it any better than that poster in the back. Congratulations on finishing an incredible, massive, heart-wrenching, truly beautiful project. I can't wait to see what comes next.
I listen to your songs every. single. day. while I'm brushing my teeth to then go to sleep (because they soothe me very much). I was asking myself "which song am I gonna listen tonight?" when the notification appeared. Now I'm going to brush my teeth while sobbing and then sleep with sore eyes 🥺
I wish I could see Matt's reaction to hearing this.
i am actually sobbing over hearing this lovely music. The impending release of LOVM, c3 on it's way, all the memories from discovering Campaign 1 on my darkest of times and growing with Vox Machina... Then finding The Mighty Nine in a better place.... and just so much love and appreciation, for the cast but specially for Matt.
He's such a wonderful soul, and hearing this song just hit me so hard over how much he loves his friends, what he created for them and....
Yeah, thank you for the tears
I watched all of these again post-campaign. I had some tears left, apparently.
I know that I’m a couple years late, but if you ever read this, I just want you to know how deeply all of these songs touched me and how much joy you’ve brought to hundreds of thousands of people. You’re an incredible writer and are truly inspiring. It might be a little weird to say, but thank you for making these songs. They’ve spoken to me in ways I struggle to put into words.
Hello. I am a new Critter and an aspiring Game Designer (and part-time newbie DM!) and I want to tell you that this is, without jokes, my favorite song.
Thank you for this. Matt deserves this, but it wasn't just him you sang for here: It was every creator that ever made a Story, and that touched my heart in a way that nothing else has managed so far in my 23 years of life.
I've replayed this song 15 times (give or take a couple dozen!) and know the first part by heart. I have yet to hear it once without shedding tears. Thank You.
Edit: I'm now 26... I'm running a Campaing and I have this on whiledesigning the regional map. Still makes me cry. Thanks again!
Came back to this moments after campaign two has ended. Thank you Matt. Thank you for everything. Proud to be a small tiny part of the family you have woven into existence.
Hey high hello hey, I just wanted to let you know I really needed this tonight. First of all it just utterly beautiful and utterly true in a way that only a fantastic lyricist can be. But also as a GM and a Writer who really struggles with the “why am I bothering doing this work every week? Is it really worth it?” Type questions a lot, your lyrics really help remind me that it still is worth it. That we are more than just some fool sitting around a table rambling on to your players hoping to god that what your saying is at all interesting, more than just the sum of the hours spent past fourAM working on maps and rewriting plot lines that never get explored, no We Breath STORIES. And our family Breaths them in with us and feel the love we’ve etched into them time and time again! So thank you for making this beautiful song, I really needed it tonight and I know I’m not the only one. Great work as always❤️
Lilli 🥺 this is incredible, and such a beautiful way to round out this narrative you've weaved. Matt is going to love it just as much as we all do, I'm certain. Thank you again for *your* beautiful stories 💛
The little "hhhhggg" trying not to cry/laugh at the end is so precious. I feel like you were doing it for all of us because I believe all of us did. It is so beautiful. Thank you for this, Lilli.
Everyone chooses theme songs for their D&D characters. This person for real made a theme song for the Dungeon Master. More DM love ❤️❤️❤️
Had this in mind as the Mighty Nein are just about to start their finale
Matt's final message for campaign 2, this song was all I thought about.
Cosplay of the Weeeeeek! I can see the joy Matt exudes, the joy he gives the community - and especially the joy YOU have invited us into, with these weeks "and melodies"
What i really love about this is that its not all about CR but its also about every DM out there. Its about Matts work in VO with all his many voices that bring live to all the things we love. Its about all off the rest of CR and the enourmous family that they have built. Its about all of us.
And the sign-language thank you at the end...
Just amazing Lilli. I cant wait to see what you will do next!
Popping in post campaign two right after finishing the finale, because my heart is in neeeeed ❤️
Matt has so much love inside him, and it just flows out to the people that surround him, in the stories he creates. I see it every time he gets emotional talking about his stories, and I felt every one of those moments in my memory as I listened to this song.
Thank you for spreading the love of your own creation ♡
How did I cry listening to this, so beautiful!
Every time I hear this song on the web page, on the right side I always see a thumbnail of Matt smiling on Between The Sheets, and it made me teary eyes.
Man after feeling all kinds of feelings and being ruined by Caleb's song this is so chearful and lovely. I listen to music to feel things and all of your songs make me feel things. Thank you.
Pretty subtle, but one of the MANY aspects of your art that I love is that you don't edit out turning the camera on/off. It's somehow powerfully pleasant, and if you watch these in a playlist format, you reach out, touch the camera, change slightly, reach back, and seamlessly transition into the next beautiful song!
It's subtle, but it's awesomr
I love the emotion you put into all your performances, makes them hit on an other level.
Also how do you write so many original songs so fast without getting burnt out???
I smile every time I hear this song. I can feel your joy in your performance and its infectious. This song has genuinely changed my life. I'm not sure how, yet, but I genuinely think about it at least once a week and it fills me with hope and I'm not sure why. But I love it.
I first listened to it when it came out and I still love it now.
Thank you
Okay. This one made me misty-eyed. This is exactly how I feel as a DM for my friends; I'm doing this as a gift to them, for us to tell around a table and laugh and live vicariously through the stories. Shut up I'm emotional now ugh
My chosen sister led me to your work in the days since my husband passed (99 days now).....thank you for being you, and sharing this beauty with the world. My husband was my best friend, and in addition to being a partner, father, brother, and friend, he was also a brilliant DM, writer and storyteller. This has become his anthem, too, I hope you don't mind. It was actually one of four of your songs played as we scattered his ashes yesterday (the first, as a matter of fact, followed by Seasons, Bare Bones and Pain and Pleasure). You weave words together in such a beautiful and resonating way, I truly just wanted to let you know that you've brought peace and comfort to at least a few lonely and grieving souls. Thank you
Such a great song for Matt. I hope he hears this wonderful embodiment of his love and devotion to the story he tells with his family.
"Stories stitched together are how families are born." Wow! 💕
SO perfect that you wrote one for Matt, he totally deserves one of your beautiful, sparkling creations. And how glorious this one is!
Oh, I cried. I'm crying now. I have chills on every square inch of my skin. The thing that never fails to GET me about Matthew Mercer is how much love he is filled with, and the way he shares that love with his stories, with his stories he weaves with his friends. "Our power lies in living lives that touch a life or two." You captured love in this song. Thank you.
This song encompasses everything I love about writing and reading. Writers (especially those of Mercer's caliber) breathe entire worlds and lives and families and love into existence and you can experience *so much* from a story, it's amazing to see new worlds and new lives and *different* lives that feel so *achingly real*
So... I'm the kind of person who loves All The Things (tm), and when asked about favorite characters/movies/genres/colors/food I can never have just one.
Until now.
This song is my favorite song of all time.
I love art of all kinds, and music is one that has always really had a piece of my soul, and I love and adore HUNDREDS of songs. (I'm not kidding. You should see my spotify playlist.)
This is the most beautiful, most personal, most amazing song I've ever heard in my entire life.
I know that it's about Matt.
But I feel like it encompasses so much of my internal self.
I will never stop listening to you, Lilli.
Your art is an intricate, heart-rendingly exquisite, soul-filling gift.
Um.... wow. I have gone through all your songs on repeat. But... this one. I don’t have words. The respect and love you put into this whole project.
I am literally tearing up. As a critter who was inspired to DM because of critical role, every word of this just rings true for Matt. The stories he weaves for his friends are so masterful; he creates the world that everyone else helps shape. Thank you for this tribute.
It takes tremendous talent to put real heart into song... music and lyrics, that capture the heart and breathless excitement and wonder of these stories.
“We are stories” is a new tattoo i will get. This song brought me to tears. Thank you again for giving your creative energy to the world
Yeah... 10$ says you made Matt Mercer cry real tears lol. Our boy is sensitive (And we love him for it.) Good Job. Beautiful song!
Lilli, this by far the sweetest song I have ever heard. There’s so much love pouring out of it! Sending all the good vibes and love 💕
I've listened to this song 20+ times, and it still gets me every time. I've never been able to sing along with it without choking up at least once.
Thank you, Lilli. Thank you so much
This song feels like it could be at the end of a heartwarming movie and just closing my eyes feels like I’m part of something bigger and it’s so wonderful that your talent can bring people together and reach into their soul. You are truly a wonderful artist!
This song is very important to me. I often use it to center myself when things feel out of control or too much. It reminds me of what's important. Thank you
A fitting end to a wonderful series, all that can be said is thank you for this. We all look forward to see what you are doing next!
This is one of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard in my life. It brings me to tears every time I listen to this one. You are spirit and inspiration and joy through song Lilli. BRAVO! Having DMed for over 40 years with family and friends, having created my worlds and etched my little coastlines in solitude I feel this song very deeply. Thank you for this bit of pure beauty.
You genuinely took us all on a journey with all of these songs.
Thank you so much for these songs, you can feel the love and passion you have in each note.
Hi yeah wtf man, this is stunning. I’ve been listening to the other songs on this channel and I haven’t finished C1 or 2, so those didnt affect me as much, but jeez man, this song had me tearing up. It’s just so well written and a good song is the best way to make me cry so this like hit me im the gut, especially as someone who writes and makes art. Writing stories is part of who I am, and this is just absolutely amazing
You really surprised me! I’ve been going through all your songs on repeat and I thought they were done. Thanks for proving me wrong! 💜
"The lives that touch the lives that touch the lives that we do" really gets me by illustrating the ripple affect that Critical Roll (and any other story) has. I don't actually watch CR, but I follow so many creators who do and learn the story that way. And those creator's works have helped me and made me feel happier, and they exist because of this one bigger story. I love Lilli's songs, I love the deeper meaning in the lyrics and the pleasant melodies, and I may not watch CR directly, but my life has definitely been touched by its work and existence
Pretty sure this made Matt's day, made Matt cry, and gave him a big smile.
Wild guess, Idk.
This is a true bard. Magic in music! Gosh, I wish to double-triple like it. Wow. I feel inspiried.
Listen, a real part of me thought the last song was going to be about sprinkle, but this was so much better. Everytime I have an expectation it is evaporated in the best way possible. This is truly a masterpiece. I cannot rave enough about this music
I want to see Matt's reaction to this video. And we all know when he starts crying we all are gonna start crying again. Absolutely beautiful song.
I’ve just recently stared watching critical role and am only a few episodes in, but this song still made me cry. You have an amazing talent. The lyrics, melody, and even presentation were on point! I can’t wait to see what you’ll do next.
Welcome to the critter family! May your journey into the world of Exandria be as beautiful and poignant as it is hilarious and heartbreaking. Safe travels!
Welcome! The reason you're crying is because you can tell how much matt loves his story and the people within them
This is amazing! Absolutely stunning. And not only does it fit Matt and his talents, but it can speak to all other storytellers out there. I teared up a little, such a beautiful song and voice.
