Let me just say this. You say it's not a pro grade saw but I have cut the equivalent of several hundred board feet in a couple of years. I have used the living crap out of my portland pole saw withour a hitch. It seems like folks are ashamed to say that tools bought from Harbor Freight are very good, but this saw is excellent! The chain does not jump off, the saw oils very well, and it has plenty of power. Buy this saw with confidence, I highly recommend it!
Good review. Bought one today with a 25% off coupon for $51 dollars after 5.5% tax, and got a free bucket thrown in. Cheaper than one Milwaukee lithium battery, never mind the $400 they want for the pole saw.
Thank you. I have used mine a number of times and have had no problems. It is not Milwaukee quality, but most homeowners don't need Milwaukee quality. Thank you for visiting and have a great day.
@@DIYwithWayne I set it up and ran it yesterday. Took on a very large 10" pine limb. Had to make multiple "slices" from both sides for the undercut, then turned the saw 90 degrees and bore cut the slices, kinda like cutting a mortise. It handled it pretty well. Not a pro tool, but it did the job, saved me at least $100 in arborist fees, and was only $50. It's inexpensive enough that I wouldn't feel too bad about just dropping it and running if something went wrong, but it's enough tool for a good sized job.
Thank you. This was the best video I found on how to set up this polesaw I just bought at Harbor Freight. A trim trimmer wanted &700. and I did it myself with this, thanks to your chain set up info. Another guy recommended soaking the chain in the oil over night, so I did that step as well. Thanks again.
Just wanted to say a big thank you to you and others on this app for doing such a great job at breaking things down in a easy step by step process thats easy to understand. Coming from someone who didn't have a dad or grandpa around to teach me things like this and now that I have my own household to take care of and tons of things that need to be done. People like you are a lifesaver when something needs to be done and I have no idea where to even start. So thank you for taking the time to teach some of us that need it. It's appreciated more than you know. Hope you have an excellent day!!
April what a great comment! I too am working ony own. Recently i got a quote for cutting, hauling and shredding some small trees. They quoted me 1,800. Instead i decided to do it myself. I have a $60 electric saw. I purchased a shredder/chipper and am going to borrow an electric pole saw. I have brought down 4 trees, i have shredded approximately 300 lbs worth of trees and still have more to go, but i am doing it by myself and the sense of accomplishment is immeasurable. This is more like a marathon, but i am enjoying my landscaping work.
@@ivelissediaz9583 good for you - great exercise and mood elevator, I find, in addition to the sense of accomplishment you mentioned. Happy landscaping!
You are very welcome. I do a lot of tool reviews and one fairly common thing is the instructions are terrible! Thank you for visiting and, have a great day.
Reviews and demonstrations are soooo helpful, especially for people like me, who know nothing about handyman work and my husband travels a lot. The way Wayne explains it is so perfect and easy to understand for everyone. I appreciate all the tips he provides, even down to what type of tree is harder to cut! Another phenomenal video! Thank youuuuuu!!!
I bought my Portland electric pole saw at harbor freight a few years ago for 60 dollars. It still works great. I forgot how to change the chain. It's a bit different from the other saws I use. Thanks for the refresher.
My dad passed in October and he didn't get a chance to show me how to use this one yet. So, thank YOU for taking the time to do this. APPRECIATE YOU. Wish me luck. Weather's heading my way and those apple tree limbs are looking shady. Lol
We're sorry for your loss. Glad you found this video helpful. We wish you all the best. I'm sure your dad would be proud that you are taking care of those apple trees.
Thank you for noticing. We have worked hard, 3 years now and we should hit 10K subscribers in 2 weeks or so. Thank you for the kind comment and for visiting, have a great day.
Thanks for the thorough review and demonstration. I especially appreciate the explanation of installing the blade because I have never done that before. Great job!!
Thank you for the detailed info, I'll be getting this today for cutting a cactus we don't like anymore. Thank you again for the detailed instructions, this will be my first chainsaw! Wish me luck 😂
Just bought my second pole saw and decided on this one. I truly wished I had this tutorial with my first one so that I could've taken better care of it. Thanks for posting this.
I Really like this video. Very descriptive, very informative without a bunch of opinion. Opinion in moderation is good and you sir did a very outstanding job. Thank you for this video. I did already but this chainsaw and after watching this I totally know how to put it together and used it. 2 thumbs up.
@@DIYwithWayne Hello Wayne, I bought mine this morning. With the 20 % Father's Day discount, it cost me $61.17 out the door. Using your video as a guide (this video), I assembled the piece. I like visual guide and I don't have much patience for reading. Only thing left to do is put oil and get to work. Thanks a lot for this video, GOD bless!
Great video, and I am glad you demonstrated how to put the chain on. You are awesome. Do you have any videos on how to do creaky stairs, in other words, how can I replace the treads and get rid of the creaky squeaky stairs. I would love to see a video on that and hear your opinion
Thank you for the kind comment and for visiting. I don't have a video about creaky stairs. However there would be a lot of different scenarios for that. Some would help you and others would not. Good luck with your stairs and have a great day.
Thank you so much for this video! I have one just like this but I extended it out and it won’t let me adjust the pole, it seems to be stuck, any suggestions?
I have not had that problem but I would make sure the ring that tightens it up is all the way loose then bump the end on something. Good luck and thanks for visiting.
Do you know if this unit leaks oil if left to sit over a season? I remember the Portland green electric chainsaw would leak oil, something about the seals not being resistant to oil and the oil would actually start to dissolve the seals and leak. Can I confidently leave the oil in this without it leaking? Thanks!
We just got this pole saw. My only question is when cutting even small branches it seems to get stuck in it. Did you have to do a V cut to cut something? Is that normal or is there something wrong?
You need to adjust the angles you are cutting and sometimes you would be better off doing a V cut on the bottom side. Thank you for visiting and have a great day.
Compra una y todavía no la estreno, ya viendo el video, me siento más capacitado para utilizarla, gracias por la información, es muy útil, felicidades!!!!!👌👌👍👍
I used 30 weight motor oil for years but now I get Chainsaw Bar Oil. Both work well but the bar oil will work a little better. Good luck with your project and have a great day.
I don't have a problem with it cost me $65.. many people will try to tell you that that chainsaw is not available they don't sell it... they will sell you a chain for $17 that's not right..... the chain that you want to look for I called Oregon as an s33 the chain that's number is on the bag you take away the x I don't know why but it's a very soft very flimsy chain..... hopefully the s33 works out I haven't purchased it I haven't received it yet but we will see..... so far I don't have a problem with this harbor freight chainsaw usually my experience with harbor freight is they don't know how to make an electric motor......
Good luck with the new chain and please let us know how it works. Also: remember Harbor Freight Portland Brand is a low cost brand. That also means low quality. For the average homeowner they will do the job but they are not professional grade. Good luck with your project and have a great day.
be very very careful when you pour the chain oil into the reservoir choose a very small neck funnel Port very very slow it will gurgle bubble up and pour out on you make a mess guess how I know???
