Subtle difference but I get it. I usually double my bass tracks and knock all the top and bottom out of one track to add the growl to just the mids. Never thought of working with a snare in the same way. I've doubled snare tracks to keep the verb off the original, but not to purposely look for natural ring. Very cool idea! Thanks for making the video!

I'm just trying to rack my head around of what you're trying to say. Are you talking about how this "trick" was irrelevant for the mix.. or that eq didn't do anything?

Consistency. Emphasizing little details to make other "things" more prominent. Adding characteristics. Adding art. Making platinum records. Not half-assing work. So he doesn't have to use a clipper, which then, would make the snare overbearing for the whole track. To make the snare sound like a snare and not a sneeze. Why question perfection? Unless you're genuinely asking. But your grammar and it's lack of details in your question makes it sound like you're being patronizing to one who is clearly the professional. Watch the full video. he explains why @8:55

I use this trick as well sometimes, this is also why I hate low tunings, I find them to be a bit boring and when they get down to the 140 range the ring sounds kinda bad so the drummer or recording engineer will tend to just dampen it. Annoying, but yes this is a wonderful trick!
