Almost 2 Hours of Solo Guitar - Jazz Dinner Music - Robert Burton Winnipeg
Вставка

- Here is almost 2 hours of solo guitar. On 7 string arch top I play mostly jazz standards but I do throw in the odd pop tune. I do it mostly as solo guitar but also do a bit of live looping to give my hands a rest. Hope you enjoy.
A few tunes from my monthly solo guitar gig here in Winnipeg. Mostly Jazz with few pop tunes thrown in, most solo guitar with a little looping thrown in to rest my hands.

Hello. It is good jazz guitar solo music.Thank you very much.
This guy, like many jazz guitarists, is like a sorcerer. That's the only way I can describe his playing.
Listen to that honest, authentic tone. Awesome!
Wow thank you.
This video is almost 4 years old and still makes it into to peoples lives.
The hotel I did this at may not survive the lockdowns, but I hope to be there again and make another video.
It's definitely enjoyable. Thanks for sharing.

Listening while working - such a chill vibe! Excellent guitarist. I'm learning jazz - hope to one day be this good. :)
Awe some
Forgive me if I mention that I give lessons and my broadcast gear gives my students the highest quality in audio and video
Great playing and awesome guitar tone: thanks for sharing
Thanks for listening!
wonderful, thank you
You are welcome!
Angel eyes, that old devil sent... Robert you're a great guitarist, you played a lovely selection of standards and just like, when I see a professional guitarist like you at a public place/restaurant/hotel lobby I am perplexed by the sound and skill and passion and I lose track of what I was doing. I find it funny to see people walking past you. Where do they have to go or be that's more important than stopping for 10 mins and enjoying your jazz guitar. You are a rare breed these days and I wish you the very best in your life and carrer from the bottom of my heart (from one man who didn't have the courage to pursue his dreams decades ago, and would love to be able to trade places with you for one night). Javier
Thank you so much Javier!
This is beautiful and exactly what my partner and I were looking for, to listen as we worked from home :) Thank you

@hansenogcarlsen : Thanks for sharing👍🏻 Love your playing
Thanks for listening!
This is great! Also opening with "Angel Eyes". Awesome playing!
Thanks so much Marcos! Glad you liked it.
I, too, loved Angel Eyes. I gonna have to learn it on piano.
Seen some of your other videos..this is the best I’ve heard you play! You’re stylin’, man, keep it up! Gonna do the 12 days of Christmas again..new carrol everyday? Enjoyed that!
Hey thanks for listening! Ya if I can find 12 different Christmas songs I will
It's funny how people associate seven string guitars with modern heavy metal, but it's been around for a long while in jazz, like George Van Eps did haha.
Great playin! Loved it
Thanks
The focus on heavy metal extends to the manufacturers as well. Hard to find a 7 string in normal body and headstock options
Wish I could have been there......Would be great to have that song list in order.....just learning to play jazz .....this set would be great to study.......
I was just thinking today of how could someone play all of me and not make a listener thing of Willie.......you did it.....very nice....!!!
Great sound from your playing. Textbook of how guitar should be played.
Hey Wayne, thanks for listening, commenting and for the the kind words
Great stuff, I want to play like this! But I’ll be sticking with my 6 string for now.
I teach that as well!!
Wonderful playing amigo I really enjoyed this performance. All the best!
So Glad you enjoyed it!
@@riverheightsmusic thanks so much for your inspiration greetings from Newfoundland
excellent achievement,,
Thanks!
Fabulous technique! Never saw a 7-string guitar before.
Thanks man!
Check out recordings of George Van Eps.
I hope I could be as good as you one day.
Nice
Good o see a Winnipeger playing great music! So many talents in such a beautiful city! Congrats Robert!
By the way, do you know Larry Roy?
our paths have certainly crossed
nice playing :)
Thanks!
Great! I'd like play as fine.
Hey Robert, killer playing in this video! it's so beautiful. I'm putting together a solo guitar set to gig, but unsure how many songs i'd need to aim for. How many would you recommend? Also any other tips would be hugely appreciated. Thanks!
Thanks for the kind words!
I would have way more songs than needed. For this gig it was 4x50 minute sets and I didn't play every tune I know. Basically do your repertoire as a gig at home and time it.
Do sets so you don't burn out your hands.
Hope this helps

💯💯💯💯👌👌👌👌👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍❤❤
Ibanez, sounds cool!!!.............🎸🎶🎶🎶🎶♾✍🏼
Thanks for sharing, enjoy your melodic chord style..keep it going. Btw..what model guitar are you playing? Sounds so rich in tone
Thanks for the kind words
The guitar is an Ibanez AFJ957 not longer in production
@@riverheightsmusic sounds great!
Enjoyed your playing! Nice rich sound with a combination innovation and flare. Which guitar are you playing.? It appears to be an Ibanez.
Thanks for the kind words!
Is is an Ibanez an AFJ957.
Very nice, what is the first tune you played? can you list just a few of the tunes you played? thank you
The First tune is "Angel Eyes" I haven't listen to this in a while but if you find a tune on here you want to know about just tell the minute and second mark and I'll let you know
Great set. But you do get to take breaks right?
This is a knitted together video of 4 sets, but if I have a gig that is only 2 hours, I play straight through
Thank for nice playing! I also have the same guitar and I am now practicing to get a lounge repertoire. But I wonder if you have extended the guitar with an extra piezopickup? Where did you get that from?
I don't know if it is on the guitar at the time of this video, but I have added a ribbon under saddle to it. It is passive and I only use it when recording in the studio. IT's from PUTW and they can make them for any instrument and and bridge.
@@riverheightsmusic Thank you so much!
Does anybody know what song he's playing at 11:40? Love it!
It's Called "A Child is Born"
@@riverheightsmusic Thank you!!!
Very nice 👍 is this a Gibson?
It’s an Ibanez AFJ957 Gibson does not make, nor ever has made a 7 string guitar
How do I purchase the 7-string guitar TABS for these solo jazz gigs?
These are all improvised arrangements but I do have some basic frameworks that I start with. The way I can get you going is through lessons where I play the arrangement and show you each step.
@@riverheightsmusic do you have an email address I can write to you to understand how the lessons work is it just to purchase the transcripts that are all or is it a one-to-one interface as in zoom etc?
This is not my style at all.
But I enjoyed the hek out of it, sir. Thank you for the upload!
Glad you liked it!
Is it safe to assume it's a low B-string?
You are correct!
I know it's a hassle, but song titles and time-stamps would be great.
Fantastic. How do you learn to play solo jazz guitar? I'd love to play like you.
Hi Phillip, I started with simple pop tunes, in easy keys, where both the melody and chords were relatively simple (the notes found right in the chords) as I expanded and increase the challenge level I found that the melody was usually in the chords.
Obviously I expanded my chord repertoire to apply it to jazz but I also found new (to me) chords when trying to combine the melody and the harmony.
I hope this helps a little.
@@riverheightsmusic Thanks mate. Makes sense. Simple -> complex etc. Did you start with charts? Or just listen and learn?
@@riverheightsmusic p.s. I subscribed and rang the bell :-)
@@phillipchambers6055 Thanks Phillip. I admit I started with charts in the form of lead sheets (melody and chords only) from there I was able to make skeletal arrangements, memorize and then expand. I do listen to get more ideas and to see how much more (or less) I can do.
I have also started teaching video lessons so people can study with me from anywhere.
