Вставка
- Опубліковано 12 січ 2019
- I show two homemade swage blocks for blacksmithing - one I manly use for hardy tools and one I mainly use for axes. I also show the accessories - like bolster plates, hammer and axe drifts.
Most of the tools I show is homemade from leaf springs.

This is one of my favorite of your videos. Your ability to clearly explain your process, without saying a damn word, is even more remarkable than your bushcraft. I have no idea how you compare to other blacksmiths, but your presentation is outstanding. Thanks for making this!
That's a remarkably clever, simple, and versatile system. I've just abruptly ended my search for a decent old swage block :-)
You and me both ! I have most everything I need , didn't quite know it! Cheers!
This guy is living in the middle ages and apparently he's doing better than us
and there is ))
Ah...the old way's of smithing, damned hard work but also very rewarding. It goes to show that, many people in this day and age have forgotten things like this and also very hard work for the simple things. When making things the process should be approached in the manner of producing things of what I call "Craftsmanship" level, meaning they should be produced with skill and care. Sure some things CAN be made mass production and be OK, but they will NEVER outlast nor will they ever approach the quality of a hand made product that the maker put his/her heart and soul into. This is old world aka good world, a single axe made by this man could serve generations of people and still keep going when taken care of. We live in such a finite world these day's, so much waste and useless things when we could have quality and less waste. I would gladly pay a large sum for some thing masterfully crafted, than some cheap junk for a mass producer. Love the video, black smithing is an art that is sadly dying, though perhaps not...there is some resurgence in it in some parts of the world I believe.
This is just awesome !
Blacksmith'ing made organic, somehow...
I really think that your videos should be shown to older grades in schools (Folkeskolens ældste klasser).
It would result in an explosion of the numbers of blacksmith's and woodworkers.
It's inspirational what you do, Malthe.
Wow!It is a treasure of blacksmithy hand made tools of world class. Thanks for the exhibitting to the world.
The sheer range of tools a master blacksmith makes and uses is amazing. Huge respect.
I like that you keep the primitive approach alive in everything you do, It is not as easy as most would think when there in many cases already exists a newer and quicker option.
Keep on slowing down the world pace. 👍🏻
You just don't appreciate how many tools a blacksmith needs to be able to run a forge. It's amazing how many different ones you use in the course of your work, looking forward to seeing more details about the shop.
You’re a Genius I have been looking for good cheep substitute swage blocks for a while now thank you and I dig the outdoor set up
Completely simple, functional, and beautiful all in one !!! The simplicity of your style and
GS Tongs style are my favorite on UA-cam! Keep up the wonderful work!! Cheers
Pure genius! Complex simplicity!!!

You're the man. I love your technical skills.
Love this new series about tools you started. Home I had a little hand in this. The thing is, you came out of nowhere, found you by accident and was amazed in the quallity of the filming and the serenity of the videos. Love your channel!!! Wish you all the best and I hope you keep on going.
You are The Best in this category!👍❤️
I am very very inspired by your Black smithing technics and your forging shop and tools.. These are very very effective and useful. Please upload a detailed video on forging a cutting tools like knives of axe etc. Please.
Hey ! Says the Canadian
I am a steel worker my self, and enjoy every bit of this, the so numerous Jig, antler, tolls, like the stopper on your antler to hold on the piece of steel wen you made for the foraging tool in the last video , this had trigger me to be more avid viewer , so again biutiful forge, almost romantique, bravo
Very interesting and resourceful approach to toolmaking. I had never thought of making them separatedly. Easier and cheaper. Thanks for sharing...
How very cool you made all your tools Rune, just excellent. In your place there is real alchemy going on :-)
I look forward to your series of videos of the tools in your blacksmith shop. I REALLY like the traditional stile of your blacksmithing. Keep making your videos... its one of my favorite UA-cam channels!!

I kept chuckling, imagining he was trying to not wake somebody up doing the quiet demonstrations.
Keren!😍
Спасибо Тебе Друже! Эти Знания важны во все времена! Здрав будь, кузнец своего счастья!
Great video dude! What type of steel are you using to make your drifts? Is the type of steel important or do you just have to quench them more often while drifting if they are a lower grade steel? I love this series on your blacksmithing tools!
Thanks. I use spring steel, not heat treated, for my drifts. The same for punches, just heat treated in most cases. I use spring steel from the local scrap yard for 99% of my blacksmithing tools. If you just making one or two example axes is is the steel of the drift not critical. The closer you get to mass production the more critical does the steel of your drifts get.
If your drift isn't made from hard steel will it not last very long.
You are amazing! I’d blacksmithing your hobby, or are you able to survive well enough off it? Is there another type of job that you do?
Thanks. I did forge axes full time - now is my job youtube.
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
👍👍👍
I have no idea what these are but I enjoyed it anyway.
😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
I would love to see you make the swage blocks! Will you make a video of it? Please?
I will show how I make bolster plates... Don't think I will make a swage block be course I don't need one more and I think most can make their own from the footage in this video. Any how if I at some point is making one more will I turn it into a video.
Hello Rune. Always great videos thanks. I seen a few weeks back joe robinet mentioned you in his video. Do you watch his channel or any other outdoor bush craft channels?
Thanks. I follow a dear friend as well from Denmark - DonVunGun - and that's about it then it comes to bushcraft... For the most part don't I follow channels, but just search for something specific.
Waching super
فنان مبدع مرحبا بك 🎉❤
great work thanks for sharing ....humans need this kind of skills ... for survival unfortunately this kind of knowledge is looked down and hidden
Do you wear ear protection when you are hitting the steel etc???
no
Lol. Next question.
Your Videos should be shown in Schools.
I miss your bushcraft :(
Please upload bushcraft😢
So this thing is for forging eyes in hammer and ax heads?
Yes and making hardy tools + a few other things.... Just like an anvil is a swage block pretty multifunctional.
Eighteen Century with color movie
Can i ask how you came by these solutions? Because you have a number of answers to tricky questions, did you arrive simultaneously at the idea to use wood as a backing for swage blocks and bolster plates, or was it from careful study of viking smithing? You have kind of answered a question of mine, if you want to make viking axes, make them in the same way. Thanks.)
Thanks. I just made things up as I went along... Used the tools as a full time blacksmith making axes.... so did continue to improve until it was ideal enough. No inspiration from anything specific - just in general from all over the world. I just don't own a welding machine or power hammer or similar.... so I am use to all my home made solutions need to be something like this.
i like that you arrived at the same answers as they did through the work. asking the question, what do i need to make this? how can i do it? and then going about making the tools to make the thing. i like that its possible to step outside of our time and arrive back a place where something great is still possible, and with very little in terms of tools and devices, and very much in terms of observation and skill. i know it takes a long time to get to that place, but when you do, you can transfer abilities from one thing to another. your work is exceptional because of that.
Hast du eine Schmiedausbildung oder bist du Autodidakt?
Did you learn Blacksmith or is this only your Hobby?
Auf jeden Fall sehr interessant.
It's interessting.
Forging axes was my full time job... Now it's youtube.

Heyaaaa 1st :D
Show off those shave horses, I’ve never seen one quite like yours
I will make a video about them. I have a few photos on instagram - runebertramnielsen
Did you learn blacksmithing by yourself or it was your usual job before making this video ? It's interesting to know. If you learnt by yourself, it can be a very good source of motivation haha
Yes mainly self taught. All the basic is on the internet.
@@BertramCraftAndWilderness thanks for your answer !
