I'm a nursing school student studying infective endocarditis and I really appreciate you sharing your story. It is difficult sometimes to put what you read in a put into a real picture of the illness that is understandable and memorable. I am so grateful for your honesty and vulnerability. I was Diagnosed with endocarditis 3 weeks ago and I am still in hospital. The first nights after the Operation I was scared to dye, could not sleep and wanted the nurses to leafe the door open. Now I slowly get back confidence in my body. I Had an emergency operation the same day the docs found out about the endo and I got a mechanical valve. I am 26 and they told me I can never have children because of the Medication I need to take for the Rest of my life (marcumar). I have no idea how this bacteria got in my blood. I know it was caused by bacteria from the mouth but my teeth were always healthy in the last year. They found out that I had a cardiac defect since birth that I had not known about, which benefits endo. No one knew about this defect in my family and I am now very worried about my twin sister. Was/is the biggest shock of my life but I am also very very Happy they found out what it was before it was too late. I also had the fever and Chills, I was shaking like crazy (jaw hurting), especially in the evening and when I was alone. Also, like a stupid Person I thought I am getting Crazy before considering that I am really sick, I feel you! xD I wish you all the best

Man good to hear your still here with us. I got endocarditis from iv drug use, but I was clean for 6 months when I got flu like symptoms, cold, sweats, night shakes, body aches. I was sick for a week, went to the ER and they said it's just the flu. Week 2 went by, they said just the flu...after 5 weeks of being sick my dad and wife were like u need to tell them to take blood tests or something cuz nobody is sick this long. Went in, they took blood, found a bacterial infection. Ended up being my mitral valve, got a mechanical replacement and am 2 years sober and clean, no health issues. But man these doctors are kind of negligent to endocarditis. I feel like if they would've caught it the 1st time I went I'm, maybe they could've just given iv a antibiotics and gotten rid of it.
6 months later? That bacteria runs deep in the human body. I wonder if it was kind of dormant for a while and then decided to attack. I do think doctors are negligent. Especially with how serious it is. Hows the mechanical valve?
I had infective endocarditis around the same time you did but from drug use.. I was in ICU with a trach tube in my throat and in a medically induced coma for over a month before the heavy antibiotics started to work and it's been over a year since I have been clean from drugs.. hearing your story made me feel so grateful for my own recovery and yours.. I had endocarditis on my mitral valve, OHS and mechanisms valve 12th July. I feel better now and are currently in a Rehabilitation clinic. But I live in CONSTANT fear of getting it again

Brutal. I haven't had an issue with endocarditis since the day I recovered from it. However, it really changed me in a lot of ways. I became somewhat careless and have been addicted to things that make me feel "ok" ever since
When I first got this from using iv drugs it took me 12 days of being so sick I couldn't eat anything. Was having nite sweats any time i slept. I lost almost 40 pounds from the onset till i got home. I thought that i was gonna die and started reading the bible with a man who had aids across the hall. Spent like a month in the hospital. I fortunately made it out without surgery and so far I've seemed to recover. It's been about 10 years now and i feel normal now. I must have been lucky cuz some people dont make it when they get this disease. It made me appreciate my second lease on life and will never put myself in the position that got me there in the first place. Your heart is very important to you so dont take chances for cheap thrills. It's not worth it. Choose life.
Hi. What was your hospital experience like once you were admitted? I had bacterial endocarditis at 28 and it damn near killed me too. I ended up w two open heart surgeries and stayed in the hospital for months. Hope you are feeling better.
Derek I use to have bleeding gums, and I discovered "THE NATURAL DENTIST " is it a medicated mouthwash, you can purchase it at WALMART! I highly recommend IT....
i use to sing beatles songs "its been a long days night, and ive been working like a dog...." when i was in fever sweats to try and calm myself down. It would work but only for a second or two, then id start literally shaking the bed with a fever. god awful
No I avoided having another surgery. Just spent months on some nasty antibiotics. Been about 5 years since I had Endo and still no surgery. I feel like one of the lucky few that didn't need surgery due to Endo
I also had infective endocarditis which led me to stroke , symptoms are same as yours shivering but only for 4-5 mins for 3-4 days, rheumatic fever, confusion.
I had endocarditis a year ago went through the same shit is you the sweating was the worst then I went into cardiac arrest and had 2 strokes then they told me i had endocarditis and had to have emergency heart valve replacement surgery I was in hospital for 7 weeks it was terrible. I wish u luck bro it's terrible.
I am nearly 14 and I went to the doctors because of constant fevers with every symptom that you are naming and my heart feeling tight and harder to breathe every fever i got and they drew blood from me and told me i most likely had an infection a couple days ago and after searching on the internet i believe i have this and i am fearful of what is going to happen because the mortality rate of this is 20% in hospitals and i dont know what i am gonna do.
I was diagnosed with Infective Endocarditis last month. I spent some time in the hospital too. The doctor says l need surgery to fix my mitral valve. But we are still waiting on the final ultrasound at the end of this month hopelly my body would heal by then and l won't need surgery. I had night sweats and shivering out of the nowhere but nothing else. What took me to the hospital was a severe knee pain, l woke up in pain, so much pain l told my wife to take to the doctor and after many tests they found out what it was. I hope you are doing better man!!
Juan Carrasquel damn yeah I had those night sweats and shakes pretty bad too. Scared me, I thought I was going crazy. Hard part is waiting to find out if you need surgery or not, which sounds like what you are going thru. Did they do a TEE? By the way I am all good now, and didn’t need surgery

I got it the first time from teeth a four wheeler wreck was in hospital 12 weeks was out a couple weeks had a fever again and they life flighted me back to hospital cause I had it again but it was in 2017 but there on me about having those heart surgery now
My partner died of endocarditis in the hospital, a month ago, while waiting for heart surgery. He got it through an infected tooth, and a strep infection. He was on massive antibiotics, and was supposed to have a few teeth pulled before they would do the heart surgery. The oral surgeon the hospital gave us wouldn't take his insurance and said we had to pay upfront; that delayed the extractions of his teeth for several days. By the time we made the payment, he had a stroke, and then another. and they had to cancel the dental surgery, and that meant canceling the heart surgery. It was getting harder and harder for him to breathe and after a few days, they put him on a respirator, and sedated him. He was still waiting to have the teeth pulled out but the infection kept going, and he died before he even had a chance for the dental work.That dentist made him wait a week while I tried to come up with the cash to pay for it, and nobody on the cardio team pushed to make it more urgent. He died because the damn dentist wouldn't pull a few teeth until he got paid first. On an emergency patient waiting for heart surgery. I'm happy for you that you made it and are doing well, but I'm kind of jealous too. Good luck man. Good video, your symptoms sound similar. And to everybody else, don't ignore symptoms that keep getting worse day by day.

Hey I'm a endorcarditis open heart surgery survivor to! It's been two years now...I'm 33.... I was wondering how ur doing now...seems like it's been over. Year for u as well....I have been putting going to the Dr to get checked out to see how I'm doing 2 years post surgery (many excuses why lol) I just feel like something's wrong N I so dumb of me to not just go to the Dr ... Like I didn't learn a lesson the first time so was wondering if I could talk to u and asku some questions?.... Also hell yeah to u surving Endo and I'm guessing u had heart surgery....or did the antibiotics work? I'm not sure I heard u talk about having the surgery but that u may

im 33 too and also got it 2 years ago and none of the dr knew how exactly. i felt sick for like a month, had the extreme fever, the chills, the aches,. for a long time i just thought i was sick so i just slept all the time, i had this horrible cough but i wasnt coughing up anything. then 1 day my vision was all fucked up in my left eye. so i went to the eye dr who sent me to a retinal specialist and they found that i had spots in my retina, and they were like, huh this is maybe just high blood pressure? but you blood pressure is super low... you know there's a super rare chance this is an infection that flaked off from your heart and traveled to your eye. so like 2 days later im at work and get that call, you need to come in to the hospital for an echo cardio gram. i was so broke i said, can i come in later? and the person was like, sure come in monday. then i get a call back and its my dr and hes like, no you need to immediately go to the hospital. long story short i had to have open heart surgery and have an aortic valve replacement and spent a month in the hospital. after i was all healed up i asked my cardiologist how bad i was when i came in to the hospital and he said, honestly you probably would have had a massive heart attack in a week if you hadnt come in.... shit is insane man. glad youre ok!! im two years out from that
@@missmsh6638 the drs never figured it out, they thought maybe just some kinda bacterial infection in my teeth maybe 🤷♂️ but it's truly crazy I've never done any needle based drugs in my life, and hadn't gotten a tattoo or had dental work done in years. One of the training drs wrote about my case for his class lol
I had infective endocarditis in 2017 and a 10mm vegetation on my tricuspid valve no surgery yet antibiotics seemed to work but I think it may be coming back but I’m to scared to get checked for it because of how bad everything was the first time around
I feel like ever since I had it I’m not the same mentally or physically my doctor said some people who survive things with a high mortality rate that have been told they may not make it sometimes develop ptsd from it I believe that he was right because I always think I’m gonna die even if I start to feel the slightest bit not myself
Grace Billing yeah your doctor is right. I mean if you think about what you went through, how would you not develop some PTSD about it. I definitely have struggled with it all mentally a lot. It’s not really something you can just let go of or forget about. I have found that time helps, it’s been 3 years for me now.
I have infective endocarditis. I am 3 months out of the icu and wasnt sure how i got it. Now that ive looked up how many people have got it im fairly certain that my crown could have caused this.

So, I was diagnosed with Mitralvalve Endocarditis 4 weeks ago, it was a 20 mm vegetation. Doctors told me i needed mitral valve replaced, so surgery was on 12th July. Now I am still in hospital because I need 6 weeks iv Antibiotiks. Unfortunately the bloodwork and the histology of my valve did not reveal what bacteria caused it. The just found a vegetation of dead bacteria. No specific bacteria was found. I still am afraid to die, I cry every day
Every time I read a comment like this, it reminds me how brutal life can be. I used to cry everyday too and no one knew. I was scared for my life and future. In the midst of it all, its unexplainably difficult. Wishing you the best bro

Oh boy, this is pretty much me since September. I actually saw a retinologust because I was seeing spots, but healthcare is so FVCKED UP in NY, I cant get an appointment with my primary until the end of the month. I have bloodwork last week I'm gonna get a copy of, and if I can make the case for endocarditis I'll march down to Urgent Care. I can't go there without a real diagnosis in mind because default for them is call it COVID, isolate me, vent me, and kill me for the money.
liam smith we thought the same too. My mom went back several weeks later to tell them what happened to me and the practice then said I would get priority every time and could come in without an appointment and be seen right away. I think they were afraid of legal action or something

Lindsey Shaffer well I had already had two open heart surgeries before endocarditis. So I have a bovine (cow) tissue valve as my aortic valve now. Due to a non native heart valve I and way more susceptible to serious infections. My whole life growing up I had to take antibiotics before a routine dental cleaning due to risk of bleeding gums leading to infection of my heart. Mouths are a hot bed for bacteria and direct entry to your bloodstreams. So for someone like me or others with previous health issues, it’s not that hard to believe. But I can’t imagine it being a super high risk for people with no heart defect history.
@@chrisadamcometa8272 yeah it sucked. I was pretty miserable during that time and very scared. I don’t think it will have any impact on my lifespan. But I do think it’s possible for endocarditis coming back again someday. But 6 years later I’m all good really

You need to get blood cultures done. That is how they will find out if you have an infection in your bloodstream
Blood cultures immediately. It takes 1-2 days to get results but they need to see if bacteria starts growing in your blood cultures

My knee ended up locking up which made me go to the hospital then I started throwing up blood and stuff it was terrifying

Hey I'm a endorcarditis open heart surgery survivor to! It's been two years now...I'm 33.... I was wondering how ur doing now...seems like it's been over. Year for u as well....I have been putting going to the Dr to get checked out to see how I'm doing 2 years post surgery (many excuses why lol) I just feel like something's wrong N I so dumb of me to not just go to the Dr ... Like I didn't learn a lesson the first time so was wondering if I could talk to u and asku some questions?.... Also hell yeah to u surving Endo and I'm guessing u had heart surgery....or did the antibiotics work? I'm not sure I heard u talk about having the surgery but that u may

im 33 too and also got it 2 years ago and none of the dr knew how exactly. i felt sick for like a month, had the extreme fever, the chills, the aches,. for a long time i just thought i was sick so i just slept all the time, i had this horrible cough but i wasnt coughing up anything. then 1 day my vision was all fucked up in my left eye. so i went to the eye dr who sent me to a retinal specialist and they found that i had spots in my retina, and they were like, huh this is maybe just high blood pressure? but you blood pressure is super low... you know there's a super rare chance this is an infection that flaked off from your heart and traveled to your eye. so like 2 days later im at work and get that call, you need to come in to the hospital for an echo cardio gram. i was so broke i said, can i come in later? and the person was like, sure come in monday. then i get a call back and its my dr and hes like, no you need to immediately go to the hospital. long story short i had to have open heart surgery and have an aortic valve replacement and spent a month in the hospital. after i was all healed up i asked my cardiologist how bad i was when i came in to the hospital and he said, honestly you probably would have had a massive heart attack in a week if you hadnt come in.... shit is insane man. glad youre ok!! im two years out from that
@@missmsh6638 the drs never figured it out, they thought maybe just some kinda bacterial infection in my teeth maybe 🤷♂️ but it's truly crazy I've never done any needle based drugs in my life, and hadn't gotten a tattoo or had dental work done in years. One of the training drs wrote about my case for his class lol

I had infective endocarditis in 2017 and a 10mm vegetation on my tricuspid valve no surgery yet antibiotics seemed to work but I think it may be coming back but I’m to scared to get checked for it because of how bad everything was the first time around

I feel like ever since I had it I’m not the same mentally or physically my doctor said some people who survive things with a high mortality rate that have been told they may not make it sometimes develop ptsd from it I believe that he was right because I always think I’m gonna die even if I start to feel the slightest bit not myself
Grace Billing yeah your doctor is right. I mean if you think about what you went through, how would you not develop some PTSD about it. I definitely have struggled with it all mentally a lot. It’s not really something you can just let go of or forget about. I have found that time helps, it’s been 3 years for me now.
How long were you on the antibiotics for? I have vegetation on my tricuspid valve as well right now.
i had open heart surgery in April to replace my tricuspid valve + pace maker.
every part of my bidy hurt. same w headaches. even my knuckles were painful

I have infective endocarditis. I am 3 months out of the icu and wasnt sure how i got it.

How did you got it, what bacteria caused it? And how to diagnose it correctly specifically to make sure?? Since it gives so vague flu symptoms..
So, I was diagnosed with Mitralvalve Endocarditis 4 weeks ago, it was a 20 mm vegetation. Doctors told me i needed mitral valve replaced, so surgery was on 12th July. Now I am still in hospital because I need 6 weeks iv Antibiotiks. Unfortunately the bloodwork and the histology of my valve did not reveal what bacteria caused it. The just found a vegetation of dead bacteria. No specific bacteria was found. I still am afraid to die, I cry every day
Every time I read a comment like this, it reminds me how brutal life can be. I used to cry everyday too and no one knew. I was scared for my life and future. In the midst of it all, its unexplainably difficult. Wishing you the best bro

Oh boy, this is pretty much me since September. I actually saw a retinologust because I was seeing spots, but healthcare is so FVCKED UP in NY, I cant get an appointment with my primary until the end of the month. I have bloodwork last week I'm gonna get a copy of, and if I can make the case for endocarditis I'll march down to Urgent Care. I can't go there without a real diagnosis in mind because default for them is call it COVID, isolate me, vent me, and kill me for the money.

I think so cause when your body is trying to fight an infection, usually a fever occurs
Based on your history, with the heart surgery and pacemaker, the prescribing physician seems very negligent towards your fever
liam smith we thought the same too. My mom went back several weeks later to tell them what happened to me and the practice then said I would get priority every time and could come in without an appointment and be seen right away. I think they were afraid of legal action or something

Lindsey Shaffer well I had already had two open heart surgeries before endocarditis. So I have a bovine (cow) tissue valve as my aortic valve now. Due to a non native heart valve I and way more susceptible to serious infections. My whole life growing up I had to take antibiotics before a routine dental cleaning due to risk of bleeding gums leading to infection of my heart. Mouths are a hot bed for bacteria and direct entry to your bloodstreams. So for someone like me or others with previous health issues, it’s not that hard to believe. But I can’t imagine it being a super high risk for people with no heart defect history.

@@chrisadamcometa8272 yeah it sucked. I was pretty miserable during that time and very scared. I don’t think it will have any impact on my lifespan. But I do think it’s possible for endocarditis coming back again someday. But 6 years later I’m all good really

Wayne Colburn yeah man that doesn’t sound good. I honestly think I got off pretty easy with endocarditis compared to a lot of people’s stories I’ve heard. Either way it’s not good
