- You find me in a basement pub in Illinois with CS Lewis scholar Jerry Root and poet Sarah Emtage. If you like her poem check out her writing here: scribblore.com
If you are enjoying these little visits and you'd like to encourage me with coffee and cake you can do so here: www.buymeacoffee.com/malcolmg...
'A hidden inn with books and friends....' -- if I were to be asked what my conception of a corner of heaven is like this would be it
That's exactly what I was thinking. You who live in countries that still hold a strong cultural tradition can enjoy friendships like this, but here in Brazil the “inhuman dearth of noble natures” is truly inhuman,
@@JoaoPedro-gt9qqI wish you peace . I pray you find a happy place and compassion once again guides your home land.
@@thevoid902 Thank you, that's very kind of you.
Godless I presume
@@JoaoPedro-gt9qq God Bless you my friend. I hope you find peace and happiness 🙏
One of the most uplifting channels on You Tube, for sure.
This grandpa is hiding a lot about himself😅
Yes!
A pipe, a 16 year old whiskey, a fire, books and friends - marvellous Malcolm. I am very envious and would have loved to be there in person, but thank you once again for inviting us in to share it with you.
Im going to be THAT guy... scotch whisky has no 'e' in it 😊
Sorry Curtis, I am but a poor Englishman not well versed in the variations of the different spellings of whisky! But you live and learn! 🙂 🏴
“Oh come in, come in.” ❤
As a native of Gondor, I've long suspected Hobbits still existed but the Shire remained far off and hidden from us - and now I get to see one!
I'm filled will envy but attempting to turn it to grace and appreciation for your warm time with creative friends. 🥃
Texas here. Me and my daughter love reading. We just finished treasure Island and you've inspired me to go pipe hunting. Wonderfully serene and uplifting channel.
thanks!
I’m currently wrestling with a nasty bout of tonsillitis after a cold, so imagine my bliss when I sat, exhausted, in my recliner with the umpteenth cup of tea in my hands and saw this episode come out! Truly a slice of heaven. Thank you for inviting us to share such a cozy moment. I’m finally relaxed for the first time in a week, thanks to the poems and excerpts. Finally, I will hopefully get some shut-eye.
Thank you, Malcolm, Jerry, and Sara, for this extremely cozy encounter.
buy yourself some iodine, 2 or 5% (I use lugols)
Take 2 drops a day for 3 months and then begin 4 drops per day for the next 12 months. While on this iodine program consider also adding Mg and some selenium. For more details on iodine look up Dr Mark Sircus.
Since beginning iodine dosing 20 years ago I have never been sick or ill since.
wishing you better health
Such beautiful energy! What's better than a pipe, a 16-year-old whiskey, and lovely friends? Thank you for sharing these wonderful moments with us.
I always save these videos for bed. Such a good way to relax from the day
Glad you like them!
your lifestyle is inspiring
Just this week I had the honour and pleasure of meeting Jerry and smoking several pipes over two evenings in Wisła, Poland. He is such a great company. I only wish I heard him talk on Lewis, but he was there to cover other topics. Thank you for posting rhis video.
What a gorgeous basement. Truly jealous.
This guy always puts a smile on my face.
This channel is like a warm blanket, on a cold wet windy January night
This looks like heaven, a blurry heaven but heaven none the less.
It's all that pipesmoke...
Malcolm's excitement is so infectious, God bless this man
Wonderful to see you with this warm fellowship, I didn't know you were friends with Jerry, but that is no surprise! Greetings from Robert Seelye's grandson (Jerry know him). Thanks for all your generous sharing of these moments.
My spouse took a class with Jerry (C.S.Lewis) and I snuck in for a session. He was quite generous, full of stories, and a master teacher. We had started our church ministry career at the same church (decades apart) and so we had known the same friends. He then spoke at the church I was working at, full of stories, and he preached with a fullness it was like he opened up all of the windows in a large, otherwise darkened room.
What a nice place with drinks and books ! Thanks for the video.👍
I smiled ear to ear for 11minutes...thank you so much and thank you Sarah
You're welcome 😁
Wow Sara's poem was so musical
Thanks!
If only we could all be so lucky as to have a visit from Malcolm...what a wonderful day would be had!
A wonderful video, is this! A crackling fire, good friends both old and new, a dram of scotch, a beloved pipe, and prose and poetry alike. What a sublime experience!
Glad you enjoyed it
I want to go there. Immediately.
I love the fact this is in Wheaton, Illinois. I used to live in Glen Ellyn and the back property line of the house abutted Wheaton. My wife and I picked up the commuter train to get to the Chicago Loop for work at the College Station (Wheaton College) stop.
I love how Sarah bobs her head every time Malcolm reads aloud. Like it’s music to her ears 😋
I didn't realize how much I was nodding till I watched it after 😆 You're right though! I love the way Malcolm reads.
Such a cozy video and such amazing poets and writers in the room, wow. Thank you for sharing!
Glad you enjoyed it!
That looks like an ideal sanctuary. Traditional pub feel with a roaring fire and a fine selection of books to peruse
Illinois! You’re in the same state as I am! Drive south for about 3 hours to Taylorville and I’ll treat you to dinner, haha
Always enjoy having a pipe with a friend.
Same. I mix peyote in mine though.
Sounds flavorful!
The Pipe right under the smoke detector 😂
Love that poem Sarah I relate to the process especially of it turning to ash then rising again. Lovely!
Thank you!
"I once saw a vision, in a weird intricate place. She read a poem, somewhere seen in the digital space. She read it so fine, she read it so well. Now stuck in my heart, forever there it will dwell."
Pardon my poor verse as i am no scholar, nor poet. I just felt i had to try, for good or for worse.
Thanks for this fantastic video, as always. These tidbits lights up a dark place.
I traded every book I've ever owned after reading it , to get another on my list of must reads . Kind of wishing i had built a library now.
What an amazing pub, full of character and charm. My favourite kinds of places.
So amazingly civilized👏
Hiyas Malcolm,
What a wonderful gathering of friends and delightful books in the perfect basement pub!! I enjoyed your talk on George MacDonald at the Wade Center at Wheaton College, thanks to YT. I live 20 minutes away and wish I could have been there in person.
Glad you enjoyed it
Looking forward to having both Jerry and Malcolm under the same roof in November for the CS Lewis Symposium in Belfast! Until then this little window into their world will do!
Hi malcolm! I love knowing you're over in illinois! I hope someday you come closer to Kansas. I would love to shake your hand, sir.
What a good place and friends you were found by. Your lecture entitled "When a Heart is Really Alive: George MacDonald and the Prophetic Imagination" at the Wade center (also on youtube) is also wonderful. Thank you Malcolm.
I know right!
That was UH-MAZIN'!!
Your Enthusiasm is so life giving. Thanks for the post x
Wish we had this in germany. Still a uplifting video.
A fellowship of poets!
Seeing you sitting by the fire reading the book aloud reminds me of a wonderful show by Jim Henson called "The Storyteller". "The best place by the fire was kept for the Storyteller."
Looking forward to having Jerry at Hume next week. Malcom! You should come out sometime soon.
Wow! We felt your joyous excitement in experiencing your host's tribute to Jack, and we thank you for sharing. Also, we watched your talk on George, and it is, put simply, absolutely wonderful! It resonates so much with our hearts, so thank you very much for letting us hear it too. Heartfelt love, as always. 💕💙 Had to pause last night at the end of the talk, but listened again together today. From one Malcolm to another, may God bless you richly! ♥️
Glad you enjoyed it!
If I may suggest, it would be lovely to watch you and Jerry talk anything CS Lewis related. That mancave is fantastic, by the way.
Lived the three happiest years of my childhood in Wheaton, on N. Main St. right near Northside Park. Walking to school in the snow, enjoying the July 4th parade from our front lawn. ❤
Good Evening 😊 A Hidden inn with books and friends are always awesome👌🏽 What more can we need , books and a good pipe 👏🏼👏🏼Enjoy your Pour🥃 Thanks for the Read 📖 Have a wonderful weekend 🤗 Greetings From South Africa 🇿🇦
Such a lovely video again. Lovely to see you befriend all sorts of poets of all genders and ages. I love it! And that cellar is like a personal hobbit hole! How I would love to read there by the fire, wow!
thanks. It's a joy to me that my writing has brought me into contact with a whole generation of younger poets!
What an absolute treat!! I would never leave!
Such a cool spot!!! The perfect spot for our Wizard Malcolm!!
Welcome to Chicago!!! I live in the town next to Wheaton. I wish I could have met you in person. Enjoy your visit.
Fantastic! What an amazing place.
This is fantastic and adorable, I love it. Wish I was really there! But this is a fine simulacrum if there ever was one.
This whole video is what I aspire to. A secret bar, a comfy seat in front of a fire, surrounded by books, whisky in one hand, pipe in the other, talking about the things we love with dear friends.
Hello from Minnesota USA to you all. Wonderful.
Such a wonderful video. Thank you for sharing.
pure joy.
The meeting with MacDonald is one of my favorite parts of 'The Great Divorce.' Thanks for reading it.
I've always had a dislike for poetry. Maybe it was my schooling. But Sarah's poem was so simple and eloquent. Maybe I need to to revist poetry.
Thanks! There’s a lot of poetry that I find difficult, too, and I try to write stuff that can be a gateway into the form.
Watched this entire video earlier and have come back to comment more on how beautiful this ‘Spell in the Library’ was.
Well this is Supremely Cozy. Wonderful Malcolm. 👍
You're not getting away that easily. Let us in!
This would be my version of heaven.
Wonderful!
What a delight to see a famiiar face on one of your videos! Jerry is very beloved here. 😄
Does he have a youtube channel as well?
@@DiscipleWP No. But if you look for Dr. Jerry Root, you'll find him on channels like the C.S. Lewis Institute and other channels.
I could sit and watch and listen to this for hours. What a wonderful time spent with friends, thanks for sharing your experience.
The lens being out of focus made me feel a bit intoxicated , haha! Fitting for a pub setting!
You were in wheaton,? That's only a skip and a hop away from me. What I would have given to bend your ear for just a few moments. God bless you, sir. Your videos are quite amazing.
Wonderful! A pipe, friends, and poetry. It doesn’t get any better than that.
A dream neighbor!
fabulous house, with an old pub in the basement!! very cozy, love the fireplace.
I want to be Jerry when I grow up.
I dream about having a basement like that…this man is just the best!
This is beautiful. A cozy hearth with friends and some books.
Oh to spend a few hours with these wonderful people in the hidden gem.
Pipe smoke is never mere smoke. Excellent video gents. Thank you.
Brilliant and enjoyable!
Never thought I'd actually see heaven, but here we are. Legendary!
