  • Charles Walhingford un-boxes and reviews the Needone 23L thermoelectric cigar cooler, cabinet, humidor. This cigar cooler has a 150 cigar capacity. With aging and maintaining cigars having them in a regulated cool environment is a must. Traditional wooden humidors allow for too many variables that can ruin your cigars to come into play.

    I just got mine and I’m glad I saw this video gave me better storing ideas, thanks. I got to agree is a decent humidor for the price, specially if you just want to store some cigars. Really good beginners for people who are new to electric humidors

    Hey bro, first off, thanks for all your informative videos. You have helped me out a lot being a new cigar smoker. My question is how accurate would you say the hygrometer is in that unit I just purchased 1 and I'm going to receive it in a day or 2 so I want to know if I need to get a secondary hygrometer. Also what do u recommend seasoning this u it with and how? Would distilled water work or should I just go with the boveda pack method?

    • @CharlesWalhingford
      @CharlesWalhingford  Рік тому +2

      I would always advise getting a secondary thermometer/hygrometer.
      I used the 84% Boveda pack to season the humidor

      @uriel-heavensguardian8949 it is not very large but it has a larger capacity than any traditional wooden humidor at the same price point

    Storage question: Everything I read tells me NOT to store cigars in the boxes or individual wrappers so that the Tabaco leaves can absorb the moisture and get seasoned. I noticed you store the cigars in boxes and with wrappers. Why?
    Respectfully,
    Mike

    • @CharlesWalhingford
      @CharlesWalhingford  2 роки тому +2

      I got my storage info from European cigar experts. Europeans make a bigger deal of aging cigars.
      That was years ago. I have been doing it this way for years now. I am not sure who or what publication tells you not to store your cigars in their boxes but that is nuts. Storing your cigars in the wrapper is a judgement call. The wrapper protects the cigar from over and under hydration over short periods of time. No cellophane wrapper will allow flavors to mingle, this is fine if you are keeping the cigars in their original box with no other cigars.

    • @CharlesWalhingford

      Many factors at play here. Where do you want the humidor temperature to be. What is your room temperature of the place you are keeping it?
      What is your geographic location?
      What is the relative humidity reading?

    Mine smells like plastic a lot. I cleaned it with distilled water a few times and left it open. Then ran for a day with the trays inside and started seasoning it with distilled water. The smell is still there though. I don’t know if I should clean it with baking soda first and let it dry out. Please advise. I am also afraid that the plastic smell would have ruined the wooden trays.

    • @CharlesWalhingford
      @CharlesWalhingford  Рік тому

      The only thing that will change the smell for the better, will be cigars. My cigar's flavor has never been effected by my electronic humidors.

    Great video.
    I purchased one of these and encountered an unexpected issue, maybe cause I'm a newbie.
    I started seasoning it per the manual, and I noticed a lot of water leaking on the inside from the cooling fan.
    And it's a lot, pooling on the bottom of the unit. Cleaned it and the next day I had a new pool on the bottom.
    And you can clearly see the marks and drops coming from the cooling fan.
    And in the room the temp is high, 80-85F. I set the unit at 70F. That's why I needed the cooling :)
    Is this "normal" in any way?
    Cooling should still not happen on the inside!? So all that condensation occurs.
    Not sure what the purpose of a coolidor is if it can't cool safely, without showering your cigars?!
    Thank you for any help or suggestions.

    • @CharlesWalhingford
      @CharlesWalhingford  Рік тому

      This has nothing to do with the humidor. this is the relative humidity in your home. You need to purchase "Damp Rid" to suck up the humidity in the room.
      Also, your temperature is to high. You need to bring the temperature down to around 65 degrees Ferienheit.
      Lastly, you did not state your Rh level. I am sure it is super high. Do you have a separate, secondary hygrometer?

    • @adrianasandei680
      @adrianasandei680 Рік тому

      @@CharlesWalhingford I have 3 hygrometers inside the unit, and one outside to monitor both.
      Outside gets hot, 85F but humidity is around 50%.
      Inside, when set to 70F, it's around 72-73.
      Humidity around 75%, but that I can regulate more using Bovedas.
      So the biggest factor is the temp difference.
      Still should't leak so bad inside.
      I would expect you can't cool all the way to the set temp.

    How often do you have to replace the water/is there a way to know when?

    • @CharlesWalhingford
      @CharlesWalhingford  2 роки тому +1

      Sorry i don't know why I just saw this "comment". There is no water to replace. If you mean what type of hydration I would use for this particular humidor; then I would use Humicare gel. The gel dries out but can be rehydrated. How often depends on how often you open the door. It will last longer than a traditionally wood humidor due to the refrigerator-like seal around the door. If I could make a very loose guess, on average, you would not need to rehydrate the gel no more than once a month and a half.
