Nice one. I came very close to buying the QY20 back in 1993. I went to Percy Prior's in High Wycombe because they had them in stock. However, I ended up coming home with a 2nd hand Roland W-30 sampling workstation for £500 !! 👍

One of the coolest things I've seen you profile. Love seeing these things that aren't made any more. I'd never see them otherwise. I'd actually really like to hear more of it. Appreciate the vids guys! Learning about these things absolutely makes my day.
    Glad you're both feeling better👍

Awesome vid, I remember the QY well - I had the SU-10 (similar format size) loved it.

I bought one almost as soon as it came out which I place around 1992. I read a review in Keyboard Magazine. I think I paid $425 for it which was pricey. I initially used it as a practice tool though used it to create a large number of demos. It had room for around 20 songs and you could do a dump to a MIDI Filer to back it up. I also used it as a front end to an Emu Planett Phatt and Orbit which sounded killer.

Yeah definitely make some videos going through the QY22 in depth, as there is not much on YT for this model. Perhaps hook a keyboard and a tweakable MIDI controller with knobs and sliders. Check out that JayB channel I mentioned for some inspiration on how to do it.

I sold mine when the qy70 came out. The qy 22 was very intuitive to navigate and sounded great. I regret selling it because the qy70 and qy100 did not work out so well for me. They had additional features, but I could work a lot faster to the qy22. I may have had issues with the polyphony limit. I would buy another one if it was in good shape.

You should definitely check out professional music composer JayB here on UA-cam ua-cam.com/channels/SYedZpINC-dhqvMqEnJBoQ.html. He is a master craftsman using the QY100 and that range in general, that many viewers assume he used expensive modern synth gear. He has a link to his second channel devoted to Yamaha XG MIDI songs in his profile called "MIDI Files and Demo Songs". I used to own a QY100 which was fantastic, but not suitable for my intended purpose. So I sold it in 2013 but later in 2021, I got the itch to get another like it but this time after much thought, I decided on the QS300 keyboard workstation, which also has a QY300 counterpart but that is sadly massively cut down in sounds and features. The QS300 has the same sequencer as the QY100 but more note storage and better sounds, although the dedicated XG soundbank is better on the QY100. I fit a Gotek with OLED display and repaired the display. Great workstation for quick ideas and jamming, as are all the Yamaha QY models.

I want one to play chords for me on my external synths. Can i use the sequencer or chord buttons to have it play chords for me on hardware synths?

I have use most of this small sequencer for productions in the 90s..i use a midi keyboard to trigger all tracks..so no problems playing chords..

Sounds horrible , ( the sounds ,not the arrangement) 16bit obsolete sound card ? Ugh. And speak English , what's all this tech talk ? So confused , what's the point of this thing ? My sony ps2 has more than this thing . i just don't understand whats so special about these things . And i have tried . I don't understand and i do want to learn, but all this techy talk is confusing . Great review in presentation, but still lost .

Just a vintage Groovebox everything can be done on laptops nowadays, some old gear was amazing this probably sounds dated now just a piece of history now
