One of the big problems I had with the Pathfinder games starting out was trying to understand what all the terms meant as someone who never played Pathfinder or DnD. As a Warhammer player it is nice to be able to recognise some of the terms used here, I think it will make the game a bit more approachable for me. Also, that's presumably why they use the term "wounds" for HP, because that's the term they use in the tabletop game.
Pathfinder WOTR was also my first contact with anything DnD ever. And boi, did I get my Gonats kicked hard by that game. I somehow struggled my ass into Act 4 but even on easy my party gets wiped by normal encounters. Baldurs Gate 3 was better but even there I still struggle with terminology. But Warhammer? Now this I know.
@@frowny5460 Pathfinder aren't easy games. Especially the 3E ruleset you have a lot of way to fuck yourself over and lack the tools to deal with combat.
It helps that Rogue Trader allows you to (sometimes) see what something does by mousing over it. You can usually right-click on something like an item to get an expanded description, and mousing over terms (sometimes) gives you more information about what it means/does.

@spellandshield Ironically, I've actually heard people refer to Pathfinder as grimdark D&D. Lorewise, it doesn't matter what you do cuz one day Rovagug is gonna break free of the Dead Vault and consume all of existence leaving only a single survivor to recreate it anew. I found out today that Willpower, the stat that determines how resistant to the madness of the 40K universe and how long you can hold onto hope... is a dumpstat. This makes complete sense in Lore to explain why there is Chaos everywhere. 😂
Its probably like Wisdom in dnd, you'll only really pump it if your class uses it as a spellcasting stat, but dumping it will probably lead to a lot of sadness.
I mean if you’re not a Psyker there’s really no reason to use it in the game. Most people in-universe probably do have a low to average willpower score, and the psykers that have a shit score either got sacrificed to the Emperor or got transformed into a demonic portal
Dark Heresy is like Call of Cthulhu, but you have two madness gauges at once. Don't dump Willpower. I suppose, a video game where you fight daemons every other random encounter would become unplayable if it made you roll permadeath saves every time you see a daemon...
I haven't played the beta of Rogue Trader yet, but I am a proud owner of all the Black Industries/Fantasy Flight tabletop RPGs, whose ruleset this game seems to run on. The universe its great... if you put one thing in your mind. Theres no good guys. And the game... its kinda easy if youre not aiming for the higher difficults. But that been said if you enjoy the lore of the universe you will have to many books to read and learn more about.
After playing Owlcats previous games Im confident they will handle the effects of a bolter when shooting a human size target. The projectile is more a small rocket then a bullet. Thankfully its not a Space Marine focused game, there is so much to the lore that most people miss, so many good dark sci fi stories in the lore.
What I generally don't like in BG3/Pathfinder is the restriction of casting. I just don't like it when most spells can only be cast a certain amount of times every day. Rogue Trader works different (better for Me).
This looks awesome, thanks for these videos - unlike Pathfinder and Wrath, I've stayed away from early access and am going in for the first time at launch. The visual presentation (art style, animation, effects, etc.) looks outstanding to me, just incredible stuff, and the combat seems like it will be on the level of satisfying as something like Midnight Suns - lots of crunchy, tactical goodness and fun abilities and weaons to use against powerful and interesting foes. I hope the RPG/choice/consequences stuff is as engaging as what I've seen of the rest of the game so far - this looks like a real winner.
Pathfinder games biggest problem for me is that to max out your party you need to drop aprox 100 buffs before the encounter starts and that's just such a time-eater.
Seems a much simpler cRPG than Pathfinder was, but of course, still with enough complexity to keep you on your toes. I enjoyed the beta very much from what little I've played (not to spoil myself too much), the release version is looking even better now with all the features (nearly) finished. Great Video as always!
Thanks for guide I recently bought Rogue Trader for a change of setting from the usual fantasy CRPGs not knowing the rules of the table top rpg I was bit flummoxed by Rogue Trader . Are there abilities to "restore" the veil/"calm" the warp? Does the value naturally go down every turn if nobody uses a psychic power? Or is it basically a threshold that once crossed, sets the entire battle on hell mode?

Never really been into the 40k setting but very interested to see if Rogue Trader changes that. Regardless, based on this I'll almost certainly enjoy the gameplay!
Hi, it will be nice when build vids start going out, I really hope they add to the descriptions of feats and items what the requirements of use are. In the old version you can't see when you can take some feats, can't see all the options until you qualify for them and it is not stated anywhere that to be able to take xeno weapon feats you need at least one 5 point in lore(xeno) and to use a med kit you need one 5 point in medicae.
Are you able to recruit any eldar in this game? What about any other non humans? I wish there were more 40k games where humans were not the focus. I am looking forward to this game though. It looks like it is going to be great.
I see in your inventory that your character has a helmet, but it is not being displayed, whereas it looks like your armor is being displayed. Is there an option to show/hide your helmet?
there has been one in virtually every c-rpgs of the last decade including the two pathfinders games by the same creator, so I'm pretty confident about this at least...
First of all thank you for all the information, I'm definitely liking what I've seen so far with this game and I could see myself picking it up next month. I did have a question about voice acting. I've been lead to believe this is a game with a lot of dialogue and I was wondering how much of that was voice acted.
@@MortismalGaming Thank you, that's good to know. I survived Persona 5 and that had A LOT of unvoiced dialogue, so I think ill be fine so long as the main cutscenes are all voiced.
A preparation phase sounds PERFECT. So many games I can think of that need this. BG3 is a great recent example where you have your party face right in front of the the literal demon lord or an avatar of a god and then combat starts... If the game doesn't let me shout from a distance to have a conversation I should get a prep phase!
Having played the game for a couple days now, I'll say that I found this ruleset to be really tough to get into. I've never played warhammer but I'm generally aware of D&D and have played a few sessions of that, so I at least had an understanding of the terminology going into the Pathfinder games. But Rogue trader has been tough. I'm playing the game on the lowest difficulty so I'm not just wrecked, but I've honestly been kind of overwhelmed by it. Especially during level-up, there are so many abilities that do so many different things and interact with other abilities, it makes knowing what the right choice is really difficult. It also doesn't help that there's a lot of actual math in the ability descriptions too, which is kind of intimidating. I predict it'll take me several playthroughs to actually feel confident I know what I'm doing.
I wonder how much we will need to look at builds to actually make a viable character. I would love to just hop in and do what I think is best. With WOTR I had to watch a build video simply for the feat prerequisites alone...
Showing the roll log with mouse overs like Solasta and BG3 would be nice. First thing I did was to max size of that thing so I could see the mechanics.
I've been wondering does your trader change look's when you put on say a new cape or a chest piece? or are you stuck with the same outfit from character creation for the rest of the game start to finish? Diggin your videos btw great work keep it up. XD
MORT! Will you please make a list of good CRPGs on Game Pass or Consoles in general? I’m trying to get into them but I can’t afford a PC that runs any decent games 😞 I’ve played PoE on GamePass and Wasteland 3 I purchased for Xbox.
No real need for it as you can access damage from other sources, but also more to the point is that you're still going to one shot certain things and even bosses can take over a hundred damage from AGI based characters.
@@SteinerNein yeah I didnt doubt that there r agility based characters, was just wondering if there r agility based melee characters :P (like in other games with finess weapons in D&D)
Theres no such thing has agilitly weapons. But melee can be built with focus on Str and armor, or agility and dodge. Inclusive the assassin class its more agi focused, And from my perspective. Agile its squiser but has MUCH more move points thats a huge limiter. And melee damage its huge has it is. But theres 2 hand weapons, and 1 hand weapons. And some eldari(elven) weapons. And you can mix psyker powers with it with power weapons.
One thing I did not like about pathfinder (not an owlcat specific problem) is the requirement to constantly buff. Seems like this is the case here (makes sense it’s not based on D&D).
Is Willpower really that worthless in the game? In the Tabletop-games its extremely important as you will need to it to resist fear (i.e lose your actions/flee) as well as resist mutations and otherwise character-breaking effects. Its basically a wis save on steroids, since you have very few cleansing abilities in a low-power setting.
I think we can expect a fair amount of annoying mental effects, especially once we start running into demons. Thing is, the comparison with wisdom is fair. Unless you play a character with abilities benefiting from it (ie psyker), that's all it does, and you'd better increase other stats.
@@benjaminthibieroz4155 In tabletop failed willpower saves will severly cripple your character though, mutations and corruption are not temporary effects.
Hey Man quick question does this game have weapon rarity ???? cause there seem to be some with unique names but nothing else to show that they are legendary not even like a outer glow on the weapons like wasteland 3 or baldurs gate 3, let me know
Not exactly, toughness increases your "wounds" (=hp)(think as "constitution"), and also rules the skill that allows you to resist physical effects (think "fortitude saving throws).
So there is no stat which increases dmg of ranged attack? For melee, weapon skill increases attack and strengh increases dmg. For ranged, balistics increase attack/accuracy, but what about dmg?
The character building and story in the Pathfinder games is phenomenal, but the combat itself is really weak. The combat in rogue trader looks a lot more enjoyable than Pathfinder; if the character building options are even half of what was available in Pathfinder I can see rogue trader becoming one of my favorite games.
Pathfinder has a ton of trap choices as well, when it comes to character builds. I would love to see this one with a decent variety of viable builds, similar to KM/WOTR but without the needless bloat.
Is there any word of Owlcat releasing this system for the Tabletop? Rogue Trader itself by FFG is fine for 40k Adventures, but definitely showing its age and very clunky. An updated version would be amazing, especially with how far Owlcat seems to have departed in almost every area
That's great to hear! Is it laid out in a similar way to a rulebook? ie, could I just take screenshots of pages and like bind it? Love your content, by the way@@MortismalGaming
Feels like it would involve a lot of "stacks of this", "stacks of that", "stacks of this other stuff". Computers ok for this kind of accounting, but for table top just a couple token/coid type in the system is plenty. Luckily the original RT tabletop rules this video game is based on doesn't have the stacks of a,b,c,x,y,z.
I feel like this system, maybe easier to understand than PF, is still so odd looking, so jargon heavy and number heavy that it'll put a lot of people off.
12:14 Lightning Arc, yeaaaah! So hyped about this game 😍Thank you for this in depth explanation! I like how you can use multiple abilities during one turn, based on AP costs - it reminds me of Divinity Original Sin system.

You can recruit an Aeldari Ranger and a Drukhari too I believe, but thats it for xenos
Yeah yeah yeah, can't wait to fight against chaos!!!
First of all thank you for all the information, I'm definitely liking what I've seen so far with this game and I could see myself picking it up next month. I did have a question about voice acting. I've been lead to believe this is a game with a lot of dialogue and I was wondering how much of that was voice acted.
A fair bit, but not all of it much like WotR
@@MortismalGaming Thank you, that's good to know. I survived Persona 5 and that had A LOT of unvoiced dialogue, so I think ill be fine so long as the main cutscenes are all voiced.
This may be one of my favorite combat loops I've ever seen in a RPT. Very curious to see how it's received in market.
Have you talked about the preorder items and ship? Maybe in another video?
I didn't know that Willpower affected psyker power damager. The tooltip only indicates that it lowers dodge chance for powers.
The one game I’ve really anticipated this year and it has to come out damn near the end of the year arggg.
I hope you reach 260K subs soon!
I definitely thought the game was coming out on Nov 7th instead of Dec. I'm a bit gutted today.
Stoked!
Dark heresy 2 had prepared me for this game
A preparation phase sounds PERFECT. So many games I can think of that need this. BG3 is a great recent example where you have your party face right in front of the the literal demon lord or an avatar of a god and then combat starts... If the game doesn't let me shout from a distance to have a conversation I should get a prep phase!
Will you make a video talking about the companions more?
I have already, but I'll probably do an updated one at some point
My hype for this game is rising. Owlcat is delivering early Christmas presents with the new WotR DLC and Rogue Trader.
Pretty happy I saw on the PSstore that this is announced to come to console only slight issue is there is no release date announced
It should be same day as PC for consoles too.
@CrazyxEnigma I am hoping that because waiting for the release of bg3 while seeing pc players play it for a month killed me
Having played the game for a couple days now, I'll say that I found this ruleset to be really tough to get into.
Good show sir
I wonder how much we will need to look at builds to actually make a viable character. I would love to just hop in and do what I think is best. With WOTR I had to watch a build video simply for the feat prerequisites alone...
Not at all. Pathfinder and this if youre not goin for unfair. Everything you make will work.
I still don't get how burst shot works in this game, mathmatically and mechanically. How does it calculated?
Seems rather simple. Fire Rate gives the number of shots fired, Recoil is how much less accurate each subsequent shot will be. What's the holdup?
Showing the roll log with mouse overs like Solasta and BG3 would be nice. First thing I did was to max size of that thing so I could see the mechanics.
I've been wondering does your trader change look's when you put on say a new cape or a chest piece? or are you stuck with the same outfit from character creation for the rest of the game start to finish? Diggin your videos btw great work keep it up. XD
It'll change
@@MortismalGaming awesome Thanks man appreciate the work keep it up. XD
MORT! Will you please make a list of good CRPGs on Game Pass or Consoles in general?
I’m trying to get into them but I can’t afford a PC that runs any decent games 😞
I’ve played PoE on GamePass and Wasteland 3 I purchased for Xbox.
are there agility based melee weapons?
No real need for it as you can access damage from other sources, but also more to the point is that you're still going to one shot certain things and even bosses can take over a hundred damage from AGI based characters.
@@SteinerNein yeah I didnt doubt that there r agility based characters, was just wondering if there r agility based melee characters :P (like in other games with finess weapons in D&D)
Theres no such thing has agilitly weapons.
But melee can be built with focus on Str and armor, or agility and dodge. Inclusive the assassin class its more agi focused,
And from my perspective. Agile its squiser but has MUCH more move points thats a huge limiter. And melee damage its huge has it is.
But theres 2 hand weapons, and 1 hand weapons. And some eldari(elven) weapons. And you can mix psyker powers with it with power weapons.
When I preorder on their website, will I receive a Steam-key or DRM-free?
What about the lethality stat? It shows up a lot on class skills, but the game doesn't really explain it.
One thing I did not like about pathfinder (not an owlcat specific problem) is the requirement to constantly buff. Seems like this is the case here (makes sense it’s not based on D&D).
Unlike PF, here you're going to do this only in combat, no pre-combat overbuffing :)
@@Vedmich good good. I’m not a fan of the “million buff meta”.
Hey Man quick question does this game have weapon rarity ???? cause there seem to be some with unique names but nothing else to show that they are legendary not even like a outer glow on the weapons like wasteland 3 or baldurs gate 3, let me know
Theres a tiny difference on the item icon in your inventory, the square has some indents on it
Does veil thickness actually matter in release version? in beta it doesnt seem to do anything
How similar is the combat to Wasteland 3?
Does Toughness apply to armor or otherwise reduce damage? It could be a fairly big deal on the tabletop.
Theres no stat for ranged damage no, you get the burst shots and the ability to attack from range whereas melee is more high righ high reward
@@MortismalGaming Thank you for answer. Now i know :)
will you make a video about items rareties and stuff?
They don't really have item rarity, its just different effects or better stats here.
The only channel that I have notifications on for.
Hmm... good overview and all, but it feels like it needs more murder-hobo. Onward to 300k. All glory to the algorithm.
When you said armor reduces the damage you take i almost cried
Everything being AC is so annoying
Damn right
does changing equipment change the appearance of the character in the final version of the game ?
Yeah, some companions seem to retain the bulk of their look if its important to their character though so the changes are minor on a few of them
iirc the tabletop game calls health wounds. Darktide does it too.
Not sure about Darktide, but yeah its called wounds in the tabletop
I want to ask what the play time for the game. 100-150 hours or less ? Is it comparable to kingmaker or wotr?
Hard to say without the last two acts, First 3 are around 40-60 hours of content
@@MortismalGaming ah bummer so it maybe around kingmaker length. I hope the game content on par with pathfinder
Warhammer!
Is there any word of Owlcat releasing this system for the Tabletop? Rogue Trader itself by FFG is fine for 40k Adventures, but definitely showing its age and very clunky. An updated version would be amazing, especially with how far Owlcat seems to have departed in almost every area
I haven't seen anything but you could just take the rules from this and use them if you wanted they have them all in an encyclopedia in game
Where is the Mordheim version of this?
Ha, still placeholder looks for items. I hope they will sort it out ;
how newbie is this. i’m also thinking about releams of sigma coming soon as well.
Depends on the difficulty
Gronk!
I feel like this system, maybe easier to understand than PF, is still so odd looking, so jargon heavy and number heavy that it'll put a lot of people off.
Damn Mortim, wasn't interested in this game and now I'm watching your videos on the game and you're changing my mind xD
12:14 Lightning Arc, yeaaaah! So hyped about this game 😍Thank you for this in depth explanation! I like how you can use multiple abilities during one turn, based on AP costs - it reminds me of Divinity Original Sin system.
I'm happy it's not a realtime with pause cRPG again. I'm a basic bitch, I like my squares.
What about skill, how exploits work, why add them and then remove them.!?
