I love it. I think it's important that we all know at least a little bit about these characters we're trying to represent. The overview you provided was perfect. Basic, but with enough meat to provide a decent context on MACV-SOG. I'm certain a few visitors will be googling 'MACV-SOG', to learn more, soon after watching the video.
I truly appreciate the historical perspective. When I take the time to paint my miniatures, I like to have as much information as possible to paint them as accurately as possible.
My interest in the Vietnam War has increased significantly since I jumped into this hobby in 2021. I was born in 1975, so I had a lot of friends whose fathers participated in the war. My own father was too young to be drafted into service. Anyway, I had heard many stories from these Men who served...none involved units like MACV-SOG. In 2023 I read an excellent book about a man's time in SOG called "Across The Fence: The Secret War in Vietnam". It was written by John Stryker Myer. I highly recommend it. One of my biggest misconceptions about most SOG teams operating outside of Vietnam was that these small units were all or at least, mostly US soldiers. I was shocked to learn that it was often two or three Americans with the rest of the team comprised of indigenous fighters. The teams were all led by Americans, of course, but they weren't filled with 'em. Even helicopter pilots were often indigenous Men and they were as badass as they come. I also never knew that Australian soldiers were on some of these SOG teams. I knew they did plenty of fighting inside Vietnam, but I didn't know that they were also helping outside of the Vietnamese borders.
Oh wow, that's very interesting! I found out about the lack of US in the squads when I posted my Tiger Stripe tutorial as I assumed it was mainly US men. I was aware of the Aussies though or indigenous pilots!! Thanks for all the information 👍 😀
Wow, both the models & the paint job look great, the Tigers strip camo is fantastic. Funny enough, a friend & I were talking about the best colour for US Vietnam uniforms. Vallejo Air USAF Olive Drab is the closest match to the examples of the uniform I have seen.
Thanks a lot mate 👍 oh, I'll have to check that out. I must admit, being MACV-SOG I really wanted to go with a worn drab colour, hence the green grey selection ☺️
hi there love this video and your other Vietnam vid with the empress minis, I'm thinking of investing into this project so I was just wondering if you have done or could do a side by side comparison as these two company's are who I think I'm going to go with. I was going to do Rubicon but I'm not sure I like them, thank you in advance
Thank you so much buddy 😀 if you email me I can definitely get a photo of Empress and Gringos next to one another. Gringos are definitely on the taller side though ...
I do have a jungle basing video on my channel which explains it but in short the tufts are from green stuff world and the basing material is AK Dark Earth with various light dry brushing 😁 I'll get an up to date video out soon!
How are you finding the inclusion of a quick run down on what I'm painting from a historical point of view?

A thought just occurred to me. Have you considered adding camouflage “grease paint” to their faces?
@Blitz9H that's planned for a future video 😉
@@paintingpanzers Good man!

What do you do for your basing?
I do have a jungle basing video on my channel which explains it but in short the tufts are from green stuff world and the basing material is AK Dark Earth with various light dry brushing 😁

What paints are you using? AK interactive? Vallejo?
Vallejo mate, each paint is noted in the video 😊
@paintingpanzers my finger was covering the top right of the screen haha, I got it now
Nice work, however Rubicons modells look way better.
